After the Gryffindor Hufflepuff Match

Summary: What happened in the days following the Gryffindor Hufflepuff match? A Continuation of Bludger Injuries Part 2 (Chapter 32)

Lily insisted on keeping Harry in her quarters for the rest of the weekend. He didn't argue or complain. He knew there was no point to argue. There were a few perks of staying in Lily's quarters as opposed to the hospital wing.

He got Lily's undivided attention, which he got anyway, but in her quarters, she can fully focus on her son. He got Lily's cooking instead of food from the kitchen. She made his favorites in an effort to cheer him up about his broom. It worked for a while. He could shower in his bathroom, though with his shoulder James had to help him. He could sleep in the comfortable bed in his room in Lily's quarters. The beds in the hospital wing were comfortable to sleep in, but they were not quite as comfortable as the one in Harry's room in Lily's quarters.

Lily allowed him to have visitors, if for any reason in hopes of cheering him up and didn't limit how long they can stay. Hagrid came by with a bunch of earwiggy flowers that looked like yellow cabbages. Professor McGonagall stopped by Saturday afternoon to check on him with Quidditch magazines. Before she left she told Lily and Harry she would talk to the professors to give him extensions on assignments for the next week. Ron had volunteered to help carry his bag with Neville, taking turns until his shoulder was healed.

One visitor Harry had that made Lily chuckle was Ginny Weasley. She came alone knocking timidly on the portrait, blushing furiously as she gave Harry a get well card she made herself that sang shrilly unless Harry kept it closed and under his lamp.

Ron and Hermione were with Harry from after breakfast to before curfew. Lily was glad that Harry had the company.

He asked if he could keep the shattered remains of his Nimbus Two Thousand with the plan of fixing it to display. She couldn't argue as he got James and Sirius on his side.

Lily had kept a close eye on his shoulder, repeating range of motion checks, massaging, and applying balms and creams to help it heal.

"It looks good," she commented when she changed the bandage following his shower on Sunday night. "Looks like it might heal quicker than I thought."

Harry hummed in agreement, pulling his shirt over his head, carefully putting his arms through the sleeves.

Ron had gotten a look at Harry's shoulder when Hermione had gone to the library before coming down to Lily's quarters. He winced, sympathetically, and asked Harry if hurt. Harry confirmed it didn't hurt, only when he moved his arm in a certain way. Lily had heard him and informed her son that his shoulder was healing and that was a sign it was healing well.

James met with Dumbledore to assure the headmaster there were no hard feelings between then and it was an accident. Since some members of the board of governors got wind of the accident, James said he would assure them that Harry was alright. They were going to take the necessary precautions in the future.

Professor Dumbledore announced the change at dinner on Sunday night.

"From this point on, we will be rescheduling Quidditch matches if there are lightning and thunder present. This precaution is to keep all of our Quidditch players safe. If you have any questions, please refer them to your head of house."

Much to Wood's displeasure, Quidditch practices were also included to being rescheduled if there was bad weather.

Harry felt that he might be to blame for the change, but no one had said so. At least to his face.

When Harry returned to Gryffindor tower on Monday morning, Ron and Neville kept to their word of helping him. James had helped Harry dress that morning, following his shower, meaning all Harry had to do was drop off his stuff and head to breakfast. Upon reaching the Great Hall and the Gryffindor table, he found a full plate before he even sat down.

"Thanks, guys," Harry said.

"You're welcome," Hermione replied, handing Harry a goblet of orange juice as Neville passed the toast to Ron. He took two for himself and handed two to Harry.

"Thanks, mate."

"Anytime, mate. Wonder if Sirius is going to be teaching us today?" Ron pondered.

On Friday, Sirius had taken over the classes and taught on his own as it was a full moon. He, Remus, and James had attended the Quidditch match with the help of the special version of the Pepper Up potion Lily makes. This way, they were able to attend the match and watch Harry play.

"I don't know if he is or not," Harry answered.

When they left for the first class of the day, Ron carried Harry's rucksack along with his own. Together they headed down to Hagrid's for Care of Magical Creatures.

"Are you alright Harry?" Hagrid asked when Harry and Ron reached the cabin.

"I'm alright. Mum says it's healing, but it might be another week," Harry explained.

"Ah, that special balm she makes, I love that stuff myself. Can you tell her to send down a batch of that stuff for me?" Hagrid asked.

"Sure, I'll tell her at lunch," Harry assured him.

When class started, Harry got to sit and observe as Hagrid didn't want to cause any problems with his healing shoulder. As he observed, he alerted Hagrid quietly to some trouble Malfoy was causing. Harry had to keep from laughing out loud when Hagrid announced Malfoy would be serving detention with him that evening and for every evening for the rest of the week.

Ron and Harry waited until Malfoy and his goons were almost back to the castle before talking about it.

"I could relive the moment when Hagrid tells Malfoy he's serving detention," Ron commented as they made their way into the castle.

"The look on his face was priceless," Harry added as they walked up the stairs to head to Divination.

Since they realized they had probably made a bad choice in electives, Harry and Ron decided to make a game out of Divination. They'd make up wild and crazy predictions and see if Professor Trelawney would see through it. She never did, which added to the amusement. But she did, however, have a time with Hermione's predictions.

Harry and Ron had guessed Hermione was taking more than one class at once. One piece of evidence of this was the fact she had more books than they did and while it wasn't typical Hermione behavior, Ron had picked up one seeing it was a textbook for Muggle Studies. Muggle Studies was the same time as Divination. Harry knew it wasn't impossible for one to be in multiple places at once, but he couldn't quite figure out how Hermione had gotten her hands on one. He didn't share his opinion with Ron as he knew using a time turner was often done in secret.

When they entered the Transfiguration classroom for class, Minerva asked Harry if he could stay back. Ron told him he would go on to lunch and tell Lily where he was if she asked. They spent the class time reviewing the spells that they had learned since first year.

"Now, for your assignment this week, I want you to pick one of the topics I have on the board and write a two-page essay on the topic. Describe it in detail, explain the steps on completing this spell and if applicable, explain how it can be used in day to day to live. This assignment is due next week."

When the bell rang for the next class, Harry approached Professor McGonagall's desk, giving Ron his rucksack to take.

"I just wanted to check in with you and see if you're alright," Minerva explained.

"I'm okay," Harry said. "Mum said that my shoulder is healing. I should be back to normal in a week or so."

"I'm glad to hear it. I've informed Wood that you have the next two weeks off from practice. I had said one week, but your mother said two. I have spoken with the other professors. They'll accommodate for you and if necessary, an extension of all assignments. If you need anything, please let me know," Professor McGonagall pressed.

"I will," Harry promised. Looking around, he saw that they were alone. "Thanks, Aunt Minnie."

Minerva smiled. "You're welcome." Then she got up, walking around her desk. When she reached Harry, she pulled him into an embrace. "You scared me to death," she whispered.

"I didn't mean too," Harry replied.

Minerva cupped Harry's cheek. "I know. Now go on to lunch before Lily comes looking for you."

Harry nodded, agreeing. He left the Transfiguration classroom and headed to the Great Hall for lunch.

Lily was waiting for him.

"Am I in trouble or something?" He asked.

"No, sweetheart, I wanted to check on you and ask you need any pain potions or something?" Lily explained.

"I'm okay," Harry answered, honestly. "Am I going to be allowed to go to Hogsmeade next weekend?"

Lily smiled softly. "Yes, you will be."

"Before I forget, Mum, Hagrid asked me to tell you he wants some of that salve you used on my shoulder."

Nodding, Lily led Harry into the Great Hall, "Thanks for telling me."

Harry headed to the Gryffindor table while Lily headed to the head table. She first headed to Hagrid to tell him she had gotten the message.

"Harry told me you asked about the salve. It'll take a few days for me to get you some as what I'm working on now is for the hospital wing,"

"That's no problem, Lily. Anytime will do," Hagrid assured her.

"Good. I'll send it with Harry when it's done." She headed down the table to Sirius and Remus.

"I'm playing messenger for James," She informed the two. "He's coming up the next Hogsmeade weekend. He wants to meet with you at The Three Broomsticks. What he wants I don't know."

"Message received," Sirius said. "Are you letting Harry go to Hogsmeade?"

"Yes," Lily replied. "His shoulder should be healed by then. He hasn't done anything that would cause me to revoke the privilege."

Heading back to her seat, she glanced down at the Gryffindor table where Ron, Hermione, and Harry were sitting. She watched her son, happy to see that the accident seemed to be a thing of the past.

Well, for Harry at least.

Lily still had nightmares about the accident, each ending with a different outcome. She never felt the fear she did watching her son fall 20 feet. Needless to say, she hadn't slept much since the accident.

"Lily?"

Lily turned her to find Professor McGonagall was sitting beside her. She smiled softly.

"I'm alright," She assured her former professor and friend.

"Lily, I know the accident has spooked you," Minerva began. "But Harry survived it, something that not many who fell 20 feet from broom can see and be able to walk. Harry got lucky."

"I know. I wish I can erase it from my mind," Lily said. "I actually considered pulling Harry from the team. But I know Harry would have fought me tooth and nail about it. I told James and he said I panicked."

"You just want to keep your son safe," Minerva reminded her. "Any mother would do that."

Lily nodded, agreeing.

Minerva told Lily what she had told Harry that day about the accommodations he would have while his shoulder was healing. She didn't think he would need it, but had spoken with the professors and decided to give the accommodations to Harry as they would any other Quidditch player who got injured.

"How did Oliver take the news when you told him Harry would be dismissed from practice for two weeks?" Lily asked.

"Pretty well," Minerva said. Oliver understood why Harry was dismissed from practice. The last thing he wanted was to be on the receiving end of Lily's wrath.

Lily finished her lunch, talking with Minerva. She felt a little better about the accident, hoping she wouldn't let it lose more sleep that night.

As she left the Great Hall, she passed her son, stopping momentarily to tell him 'have a good rest of the day' and reminded him to stop by the hospital wing that afternoon for a potion.

Harry mock saluted her, earning a slight flick in the back of his head.

Lily sighed as she walked to the hospital wing, feeling that she was recovering from the ordeal as well. She stopped outside the doors of the hospital wing, noticing how pretty it looked outside the window. She stood there watching the wind blow through the trees and the leaves fly in the air.

Looking up to the sky, she let the sun bathe her in sunlight. Taking a deep breath, she whispered, "Thank you, God, for watching over my son."

When Harry, Ron, and Hermione entered the Defense classroom, they found Remus sitting at the desk. Harry noticed that he was wearing the robes Lily had bought him for as a 'Congratulations on the job' present, along with a few others. She had argued that he needed to look nice as a professor and had gotten James and Sirius on board to help replenish his old and slightly outdated wardrobe. Harry just patter his shoulder and said, 'Let her do, it makes her happy.'

And the robes looked nice on him. He did look like a professor.

"Can Professor Sirius fill in for you again sometime? He's fun."

"Imagine if we had Snape as a sub." That statement brought along a few groans.

"Professor Snape," Remus corrected. "And Professor Sirius filled me in on the class Friday and today we'll continue where he left off and review what he covered."

Remus brought out a box containing a Hinkypunk, a little one-legged creature who looked as though he was made wisps of smoke. It looked rather frail and harmless looking. Well, as harmless as anything Hagrid would teach them about.

"It has a proclivity for luring travelers off of their paths at night, into treacherous bogs or wetlands under the guise of a helpful, lamp-bearing being. They are impish varmints who revel in inconveniencing magical," Professor Lupin explained as the students took notes, along with the enchanted quill that wasn't a Quick Quotes Quills, but one that Remus had charmed to write the notes from his lectures. "You might notice the lantern dangling from his hand? It hops ahead, people follow the light, and….."

The Hinkypunk made a horrible squelching noise against the glass.

"For your assignment today, I want a twenty-inch essay on the Hinkypunk. I want a description, what they are, where they're from, and how to defend against one."

When the bell rang, everyone gathered up their things and headed for the door. Harry was about to head to the door himself when Remus called "Harry, stay behind."

"How's the shoulder?" He asked.

"It's healing," Harry said.

"I've been informed of your accommodations until your shoulder is healed. I wanted to let you know that if you need the extra time you're more than welcome to use it. If you need anything let me know."

"I will," Harry murmured.

Remus smiled softly, approaching the boy he thought of as a son. Since they were alone, he allowed himself to pull Harry gently towards him into an embrace.

"You scared the daylights out of us," He said, softly.

"I didn't mean to," Harry said.

"I know you did," Remus assured him. He had made himself come to the game. He had never seen Harry in a match before and didn't want to disappoint. He doped himself up on Lily's version of the Pepper-Up Potion and when to the game. He was glad he did in a way and wish he didn't in another. It was one thing to watch Harry fall twenty feet, but he was glad he was there so James and Sirius wouldn't have to tell him.

"Need anything, I'm here, Cub," Remus said, his hand sliding down the back of Harry's head.

"I know that, Remus. I will, I promise," Harry assured him.

"Go on to dinner before your mother sends out a search party," Remus directed. "I'll be along."

"She hasn't had to yet, but I wouldn't put it passed her," Harry said as he left the room.

Remus chuckled as he gathered his books, putting them into his briefcase, a present from James when he got the job at Hogwarts. He even had his name on put it as Professor R. J. Lupin

Picking up his briefcase, he headed for his quarters to drop off his bag before heading to the Great Hall for dinner.

OoOoOoOoOoOoO

"Do your hands have to be cold?" Harry asked his mother. It was Friday afternoon. Lily had asked Harry to come to the hospital wing following his last class of the day for her to check his shoulder. Harry knew to obey her orders or she would come and drag him to the hospital wing herself. He didn't test it when Lily gave her orders, he knew she would follow through with any threats she could have and with a Hogsmeade visit tomorrow, Harry wasn't taking any chances.

He had barely walked into the hospital wing that Lily directed him to a private exam room.

"No, they don't. I tried to warm them," Lily replied, rotating Harry's arm with one hand, her other hand on his bare shoulder. She had him take his shirt off for the exam.

"I thought it was a healer thing," Harry murmured.

"Now, relax your shoulder," Lily reminded him, moving his arm up and down while her other hand remained his shoulder.

She had used the healing balms, muscle strengthening potions, and massage to help Harry's shoulder. The muscle-strengthening potions seemed to have worked in helping Harry shoulder. The bones weren't broken which shorten Harry's recovery time, otherwise, he might be facing having the bones restored with Skele-Gro or at worse, surgery to repair them.

The only downside with the muscle-strengthening potion is that it cost Lily one Chocolate Frog. Harry almost spit it back out when he took it for the first time. Knowing it would be a battle if she didn't add a bribe, Lily offered one Chocolate Frog for each dosage Harry took without issue.

"Alright, now lie your stomach and I'll do a diagnostic charm."

Harry turned to lay on his stomach, laying his arm straight against his side. He felt the tingling sensation telling him Lily was doing the diagnostic charm, then the coolness of Lily scanning the muscles. Then after a few minutes, he felt nothing. Lily was done with her examination.

"Well?" He asked.

"You may sit up," Lily directed.

"I mean, is my shoulder healed enough for you to allow me to go to Hogsmeade?" Harry inquired.

"Looks like everything is healed," She said. "I'm going to suggest continue having Ron or Neville carry your rucksack if it's heavy, otherwise you can resume carrying it, just use both straps on both of your shoulders, not just one strap on one shoulder. I'll tell Minerva that you may return to Quidditch practice, but be careful with your shoulder. As for Hogsmeade goes, you may go, I wasn't going to keep you back. You haven't done anything that would cause me to revoke the privilege."

Harry leaped to Lily, nearly knocking her over, hugging her tightly.

"Thanks, Mum," He said, as he pulled his shirt back on.

"You're welcome. Go on, find Ron and Hermione. I'll see you at dinner," Lily said, kissing his forehead.

"See you later Mum, love you," Harry called as he left the hospital wing.

"Love you too," Lily replied. She watched him as he headed down the corridor off to find his friends.

While this wasn't Harry's first Quidditch related injury, Lily knew it wouldn't be his last. She knew there would be plenty of others if Harry was anything like James and he was when he was on a broom. There would be most likely concussions, broken bones, bruised muscles, and more if Harry remained on the team. But Lily wasn't going to worry herself about those now. But one thing was for sure, she'll be there for her son, looking after him when he got hurt.

AN: It's been a while since we had third-year fic hasn't it? For those who want to see the chapter where Harry has Wizard's Flu, it would be (hopefully) the next third-year fic. As always if you have something you would like to see in this series let me know in the reviews or PM me.

Happy Reading!
