Biography:

Born the son of wealthy socialite and potentate Alejandro de la Vega in colonial California, Diego, like his father, was a socially conscious man who sympathized with the plight of the poor and the aborigines under the oppressive military government. Returning from years of education and formation all through Europe, Diego assumed the appearance of a foppish, careless playboy to better defend the masses in secrecy as a vigilante.

Aided by his mute manservant Bernardo, Diego fashioned an all black costume, with mask, hat and cape, for himself, and set out to avenge the weak and protected the oppressed as Zorro, a sly 'human fox', as swift as wind, bedeviling Monasterio's forces. After the Captain's downfall, he also battled enemies as El Aguila (The Eagle), leader of a conspiracy to overthrow the government of California, plus more bizarre foes like Machete, El Fantasma, Quickblade and Lady Rawhide.

There are several, mutually contradictory accounts of Zorro's death, but most of them seem to agree he led a long life and died past his prime. A particularly relevant entry for the Throne of Heroes had the old Diego dying at hands of bandits who later were trounced by a fledgling hero for the new era dawning; the Lone Ranger.

Class Skills:

Riding: A

Saber was one of the best horseback riders of his time, taught by the best teachers of Europe. He was virtually impossible to reach by pursuing armies once on a stallion or mare, and could reach high speeds, and maneuver through narrow mountain passes, with no difficulties. He also was adept at commanding carriages and similar land vehicles.

Thanks to the legacy linking him to a descendant in the 21th century who also adopted the Zorro identity, Saber also can pilot modern land, air and water vehicles with no inconveniences. However, spaceships, Phantasmal Beasts and Dragons are out of his control.

Magic Resistance: D

Saber mostly fought very human foes, but he had occasional encounters with the supernatural, and sometimes was aided by the magic of the Native American wise woman, Grey Owl.

Additionally, this Servant had a limited amount of knowledge from his childhood, on the ways of ancient Mesoamerican mystics. The magecraft from most human, living Magi can be repelled with relative ease, with effectiveness equivalent to that of a powerful amulet.

Personal Skills:

Disengage: A

A capacity to escape no matter the circumstances after being placed in a disadvantage that cannot be overcome. Saber can easily retreat, along his Master, and flee even the most persistent pursuers. This Skill, however, will not provide cover for ally Heroic Spirits.

Vigilante Tactics: B

The inspiration for the Batman Bruce Wayne (also summonable as an Avenger), Saber is a master tactician or urban warfare. An one man army able to take battalions of trained men one by one. He can easily hide in the shadows (although not well enough as to grant him Presence Concealment) and strike from there. He is also moderately skilled at campaigns of psychological warfare and intimidation.

Besides his sword, Saber also can use twin handguns, a whip, and hunting bolas as weapons. He normally is reluctant to kill humans unless absolutely necessary, but such compunctions do not extend to fellow Heroic Spirits.

Master Fencer: A

Learning from the best European masters of his age in the noble arts of fencing, Saber was considered a peerless swordsman among his people, with the aptitude to duel several foes at once. He moves gracefully, wasting no move and confusing the adversary with frequent feints and tricks of perception before dealing a decisive slash.

There is a limit on how far this Skill can help Saber, however. It is still inferior to the level of swordsmanship displayed by the likes of Miyamoto Musashi, and ineffective against highly powerful sacred or magical swords surpassing his stats.

Mark of Zorro: A

A Skill borderlining a Noble Phantasm, but not damaging enough as to count as one. Saber's signature in life, that of slashing his sword thrice to leave a 'Z' marked on the enemy's clothes or, had the adversary enraged Saber enough, their flesh, to taunt them. When applied upon a Servant's skin, the mark of Zorro will never go away no matter what until the Servant's dispelling, branding the Saint Graph through the remainder of the summoning.

The Servant upon which this Skill is deployed will lose their Bravery, should they have it, upon confronting Saber again. It also gives a penalty in terms of the damage the enemy can inflict upon Saber every time they face each other, but does nothing to protect the Master or ally Servants.

Noble Phantasms:

Tornado and Phantom: C

Anti-Unit.

Saber's two horses, both of them extremely fast and as brave as their master, who can be steered anywhere as long as Saber is riding them. They can be used to trample the enemy under their hooves or simply to make an even faster escape, increasing Disenganging to A+.

Tornado is a black stallion and the fastest and strongest of the two. As Saber's first horse, he is Saber's favorite and first personal choice. However, Phantom, a white horse, consumes less mana and is almost as effective in the battlefield.

The horses can be killed by the enemy and then they cannot be resummoned, but as long as one of them is alive, it can be called even if the other has been struck down. They can be summoned an indefinite amount of times per day as long as Saber has enough mana reserves in him.

Legacy of Zorro: D

A Noble Phantasm that allows for a return from death, like Heracles' God Hand, but with several limitations. The Noble Phantasm doesn't grant Saber immunity to what killed him previously and only can be used once per day. It is also automatic, activating itself whenever Saber is cut down in battle.

After being slain, Saber can return up to a maximum of four times, each inhabiting the body of a different inheritor of the Zorro mantle, even though the personality remains that of Don Diego, the best known and longest serving owner of the identity. These incarnations of Saber include:

Ramón de la Vega, Diego's younger brother and a confessed homosexual.

Alejandro Murrieta, a dashing former rogue and bandit, who eventually romanced and married Diego's daughter Elena.

Gustavo de la Vega, a descendant of Diego active during the late 20th century.

Diego de la Vega, a teenaged descendant of the original Zorro, and Gustavo's grandson, living in the 21th century.

Summon: "Good evening! I'm the Saber, your Servant. Because I have to assume you are the Master who called for me, right?"

Start of Battle: "Engarde, gentlemen!"

"Justice will be served."

Victory: "Ah ha ha! Sergeant Garcia could put up a better fight!"

"¡Adios, amigos!"

Defeat: "The ride ends here..."

"Father, I tried to live up to your ideals..."

"Elena..."

Defeat by Noble Phantasm: "It was a good fight while it lasted."

Noble Phantasm Activation: (Whistles). "Come here! Tornado!" (or Phantom, depending on the circumstances).

Extra Dialogue:

"Ah, the ancient goddess of the homelands. Excuse me, I serve another faith, but you still have my respects" (When you have Rider Quetzalcoatl or Samba Santa Ruler Quetzalcoatl).

"What a lovely señorita. Professor Springfield will grow up to be a lucky man." (When you have Rider Yukihiro Ayaka, Alter Ego Hasegawa Chisame, Saber Kagurazaka Asuna, Caster Ayase Yue, or Caster Saotome Haruna).

"What is the problem, mister? You look as if you'd just seen a ghost!" (When you have Avenger Batman).

"A duck? A duck, really? Hey, come on, now, don't be offended! I didn't mean ill! I'm sure you're also a competent fighter, it's just I'm not used to talking ducks..." (When you have Archer Darkwing Duck).

Birthday: "¡Feliz Cumpleaños! I'm not too good at these things, but I took the liberty of preparing a piñata for you..."

Event: "Just look at that, will you, Master? I wonder if they will have tamales..."

Holy Grail: "A wish? Any wish? No, I hadn't thought of that yet... What do you think, Master? What should we wish for?"

To be Continued.
