New Years Eve

Christmas had come and gone quickly that year. Remus and Tonks had spent time with their families. Remus with his dad, and Tonks with her parents. They had spent the night together a few times while the kids had been at headquarters but Tonks was definitely excited to finally have more free time with Remus once the kids left to go back to school on the 12th of January.

Remus and Tonks found themselves in the back parlor with Sirius on the afternoon of December 30th. An Order meeting was suppose to be happening later that day and the three were relaxing before then. The trio was discussing Arthur's recovery. He had been home since the 26th but had been resting a lot. the kids and he and Molly were all downstairs having a late Christmas together, as Arthur had finally been strong enough to do it.

"Thank Merlin Arthur is finally getting back on his feet." Tonks said.

"I know, he was in the hospital forever it seemed." Sirius agreed.

Remus nodded in agreement. Arthur had finally started to get better though, and they had to be thankful for that.

"What time had we agreed on for the meeting?" Sirius asked.

"It's at 4." Remus said, looking up from the paper.

Tonks was curled up with him on the sofa, reading over his shoulder.

Sirius nodded, before he left to go see Harry, who had just walked past the parlor, still looking rather solemn.

"He'll be okay, right?" Tonks asked, concerned.

Remus put the paper down, turning to look at Tonks.

"I sure hope so Dora." Remus said.

Tonks snuggled into him. She felt so badly for Harry, he had so much pressure being put on him.

Remus wrapped his arm around her, playing with her hair.

Soon it was time for the Order meeting, and Remus and Tonks had made their way down to the kitchen. Sirius and Molly were already waiting for them.

tonks took the seat next to Remus, while they waited for the rest of the order members to be there so that they could start the meeting.

Eventually, the other members started to make their way into the basement kitchen for the meeting. To everyone's surprise, even Dumbledore had come to the meeting. The headmaster was usually far too busy, but the Christmas holidays had opened his schedule enough that he was able to attend.

Once everyone had arrived the meeting started.

Dumbledore was the first one to speak.

"Welcome. I'm sure at this point you have all heard that Arthur has made a full recovery, and Molly tells me he should be well enough to join us for next weeks meeting. that is great news, but I'm afraid that's the only good news I bring. Severus, I know you needed to speak." Dumbledore said, looking at Snape.

"Yes, sir. Thank you. Snape Started. "I fear that the Dark Lord May be planning something big. It's been quiet, and I've attempted to ask around but I cannot be too pushy over it either. Voldemort still does not completely trust me since my return, and unfortunately I am not his closest confidant, so I cannot be certain. But, I believe that we should all prepare for him to make a move at some point in the next weeks." Snape said, solemnly.

Remus sighed heavily and almost everyone stayed silent.

Remus had been fearful of this exact scenario. The three weeks leading up to the deaths of lily and James had also felt this way. the silence was never a good sign, and it typically meant that the death eaters were planning something particularly sinister.

"A rumor has been going around for a week or so that the Dark Lord has tasked Lucius Malfoy with getting him schematic plans for Azkaban." Snape continued.

Most of the group gasped, knowing exactly what that meant. Voldemort was going to try to break out his supporters.

Dumbledore spoke again. "I know that this was not the news that we had hoped for. but we need to remain alert and prepared for this scenario. So, please keep any and all security measures in place for now."

The group nodded.

Mad eye and Kingsley took turns speaking. next, they updated everyone on the what was happening at the ministry.

Moody grumbled on about how the ministry was constantly beginning to ignore bizarre disappearances and was totally lying about being in control of the dementors.

Eventually, the meeting started to come to a close and the order members began to leave.

Remus saw Tonks talking with Charlie in the corner. she looked kinda upset. Remus couldn't make out what they were saying over the other conversations in the room.

In the opposite end of the room Tonks was fuming mad. she was surprised her hair hadn't turned red.

"I'm sorry. What?" She double checked, making sure she had actually heard her old flame right.

"Come on, I'm back in England full time now. And, we make more sense anyway." Charlie said, in a very cavalier manner as if he hadn't just been gone five years.

She knew it, he had tried to hit on her just before, now he was asking her out.

"More sense than who, Charlie?" Tonks asked.

Remus looked over, Tonks looked pissed. He hadn't known what Charlie said to her but it clearly made her very angry

"You and Remus. Really? What's up with that?" Charlie whispered.

"What does that mean, Charlie?" Tonks snapped.

"come on, the dude is like ancient Tonks. And isn't he a werewolf?" Charlie said.

That was the last straw.

"What is that suppose to mean?" Tonks glared at him.

"Okay, why do you keep saying that?" He snapped back at her.

"Because. its pretty obvious what the real issue is. It's not the fact that I have moved on, it's who I chose to do it with. So, I'm only gonna say this one time Charlie, there is nothing wrong with me and Remus being together. "

"If you actually think that. You're a dumb bitch." Charlie sneered at her.

She pushed passed Charlie angrily.

Remus had noticed this and promptly decided to go check on her.

He found her pacing in the parlor.

"Dora. Are you alright?" Remus asked.

"Nope." She replied, pushing her lips together.

"Hey." Remus said, touching her arm. "What just happened?"

Tonks turned to hug him. Holding on to him for a sense of security.

"Please, I don't want to be here. Will you take me upstairs?" Tonks asked.

She didn't fancy running into Charlie again or have him barge in when she was talking to Remus.

Remus agreed.

Tonks crawled under the covers of his bed and sighed loudly.

"I'm sorry, I had just thought this wouldn't happen again." Tonks said.

Remus went over to her, pulling her to him.

"What's wrong?" Remus asked again.

"Charlie is mad at me." Tonks said.

"It kinda looked like it was the other way around." Remus said.

Tonks sighed again.

"It's kinda complicated. Charlie and I dated when we went to school together. But then he left to go to Romania, and I refused to go with him, he wanted me to but, I wanted to be an auror, it was important to me." Tonks said sadly.

Remus had known they had been together briefly but he hadn't know this.

"I broke up with him. He was mad."

Remus nodded his head, sometimes he got the feeling that Charlie was kinda controlling but he'd probably never tell tonks that. He was still a little confused with what the issue was.

"He's still upset now because of that? Wasn't that over five years ago?" Remus asked.

"Yeah." Tonks explained. "Molly must have mentioned something about you and I and now he's pissed about it. acts as though I'm now suppose to just drop everything and run back to him."

"I mean, I'd understand if you wanted to be with Charlie." Remus said sadly.

He didn't want to stop her if it was something she actually wanted.

"Don't say that. I want to be with you." Tonks said sternly,

"I'd like that." Remus said, caressing her side.

"He told me I was dumb bitch." Tonks said, softly.

Tonks wasn't one to cry over a few mean words but was certainly sour over the whole thing.

Remus stiffened a little bit as she told him this.

"Wait, five years ago he said this? Or, just now?!?" Remus said quickly.

"No, just now." Tonks said.

"Charlie sounds upset and jealous , don't listen to him, your wonderful." He said, kissing her forehead. inside Remus was fuming.

"Charlie acts like he has some right to have me, I don't like that." Tonks said. It clearly made her uncomfortable to be pushed by him this way.

To make it worse, Remus could still hear Charlie down in this kitchen with his mom.

"I don't understand, why would she ever pick him over me. We were together for almost a year! She dumbed me because I left, and now that I'm back I'm second best to the werewolf, great." Charlie sneered.

He was being really loud... then he heard Sirius start yelling at Charlie.

"Fuck" Remus thought, he should probably go contain his friend.

"Remus gave tonks another small kiss on her cheek before telling her he'd be right back.

"Wait, where are you going?" Tonks asked slightly confused. She clearly had not been able to hear them in the basement.

"Figured we could use some tea." He lied.

Tonks nodded.

Remus bounded down the stairs and into the kitchen where Molly was trying to calm down both Sirius and Charlie.

"Hey!" Remus yelled, pulling Sirius back, who acted like he was going to hex the younger man.

"stop it padfoot." Remus said harshly.

"Moony, this fucking kid." Sirius started.

"I know what he said, I heard him." Remus said, looking at Charlie. "I don't care what you said about me."

"But, You have a lot of nerve staying here, after what you just said to Dora." Remus said, trying to not sound completely irate.

Molly looked at her son confused.

Charlie looked really embarrassed.

"I didn't know that you guys were that close." He murmured quietly. Clearly taken off guard that Remus had called her Dora. By Charlie's reaction Remus could tell that the younger man had never been told he could use that name.

Remus stared at him.

"Charlie. What did you say?" Molly asked her son in horror.

"He told Dora she was a bitch, because she wouldn't go out with him." Remus sneered.

Molly gasped.

"Yeah! Well I'm still better than good old Percy." Charlie yelled at his mother, before storming out.

Molly cried at the mention of Percy. Sirius went to console her.

Remus made him mad tonks some tea and some for Molly as well. he gave her a hug before leaving.

"Oh Remus I'm sorry. What he said. That's not how he was raised. I'm so sorry." Molly cried.

Clearly talking about what Charlie had said about him.

"Molly, people have said far worse over the years. He was upset and disappointed. I don't hold bad feelings over it. Try not to be too upset. He'll come round."

Molly thanked Remus again before he left the kitchen.

Remus and tonks spent that night talking and drinking tea with each other.

tonks had a feeling he had gone downstairs to say something to Charlie but had not pressed the issue. If Remus wanted to stick up for her, she wasn't going to stop him.

~

The next day, Remus woke up wrapped around tonks, he massaged her hip a little under the covers, enjoying her body.

Tonks groaned a little and turned to face him.

"Good morning." She mumbled into his chest.

Remus chuckled a bit, realizing she had caught him admiring her.

"I'm sorry, your just really hot." Remus told her.

She laughed at his comments and rolled over to lay on him. she could feel his hardness rubbing up against her. she moaned and kissed him.

She knew that the twins were right next door but the thought of morning sex with Remus sounded like a ton of fun.

She could see him a little bit it was still kinda dark in his room.

She brushed her hands over his arms, they felt nice.

Tonks bit her lip. she probably could have stayed in bed with him all day.

"I think your kinda hot." She said, feeling his muscles under his shirt.

Remus chuckled a little, he hadn't been told that very often in his life.

He rubbed the soft skin on her legs.

they heard the kids talking out in the hallway and could tell that everyone was also starting to get up.

He and tonks still stayed wrapped up in his covers for awhile longer. he could smell her arousal in the air. He wanted her so badly.

"Mmmm." Tonks murmured in excitement when she felt his boner push into her.

She reached out and touched him a little, feeling how hard he was.

She moaned. He felt so big. it was exciting.

The pair enjoyed each other for awhile longer, They didn't really want to leave bed. They probably could have stayed there all day if the kids hadn't been there.

Eventually though they did get dressed and went down to eat breakfast with everyone else.

Later that day as night came closer, Sirius declared that the News Years celebrations were beginning.

Tonks secretly hoped that Remus would kiss her at midnight. She had always been the one to initiate that type of thing and she was hoping that he would that night. It would have been better if the kids were not there but she still loved their company regardless.

tonks snd Remus were in the front parlor with Molly, Arthur, Sirius, Emmeline, Ashlee, and Kingsley. The kids came in and out frequently but mostly had been in the sitting room upstairs for a large portion of the day.

Tonks was busy pouring herself more wine, when she turned to Remus.

"Bourbon?" She asked.

He smiled and nodded.

She came back to sit with him. He was playing Sirius in chess.

It appeared that for once Remus wasn't going to let him win.

Tonks looked across the room, Molly and Arthur were dancing to a radio program. Tonks smiled, it was nice to see that Arthur was doing so much better. she was happy for both of them. Their love story was one for the ages they have loved each other longer than they hadn't and in many ways Tonks looked up to Molly.

As midnight got closer and closer Tonks felt more and more anticipation. She really wanted Remus to make the first move for once.

Emmeline and Sirius were glued to each other in a corner, and they were talking animatedly with each other.

Meanwhile, Molly and Arthur were still dancing and having a great time together.

A few minutes before midnight Tonks pulled a Remus into the hall.

"Come to the kitchen with me." Tonks said.

Remus followed her, holding on to her hand as she lead him down to the basement.

Tonks smiled at him as she got herself a cup of water.

Remus watched her move around the kitchen, he smiled at her.

"I've thought about you all day." Remus said, walking over to her.

Tonks wrapped her arms around his neck.

"Really? Good things I hope?" She teased him.

"Only good things." He told her.

She smiled at him.

Just then Harry came in the kitchen.

The pair separated to look over at the teenager.

"Hi Remus." Harry said. "I'm just getting a snack." He explained.

"How's it going, Harry?" Remus asked.

"Breaks been pretty good." Harry said, while he absentmindedly ate a small cookie.

Soon, Harry left, but Remus couldn't help but think Harry seemed like he had a lot on his mind.

Once he and Tonks were alone again, she moved back to be close to him.

They heard a small ding come from the stove, alerting them that it was now 1996.

Tonks smiled at Remus.

"Happy New Year, Dora." Remus said. Kissing her on the cheek. She kept looking up at him a little expectantly.

"Happy New Year." She said back.

Remus must have gotten the hint because then he leaned over and kissed her softly on the mouth.

Tonks smiled up at him.

"I've been waiting for you to do that for a really long time." Tonks chuckled.

Remus chuckled, and nodded, before speaking.

"I figured our year could use a good start."
