The Preliminary Rounds will be a little different, but I stayed as close to what happens as possible.

Chapter 3: The Preliminary Rounds Begin

Reno, Hayner and I walked into the tower having made it once light hit taking our scrolls out placing them together.

"Hello team!" Ren-sensei said appearing making Reno wave enthusiastically saying, "Ren-sensei you were in the scroll the whole time?"

"No you idiot he was summoned here to greet us." Hayner said crossing his arms making Reno give him the stink eye while Ren waved his hand saying, "I just wanted to congratulate you guys on making it this far despite not beating Kurenai's team."

"They beat us?!" we all said together making him put his hands up defensively replying, "They got in last night."

"See we should have made a run for the tower last night like I said." Reno said crossing his arms making Hayner roll his eyes saying, "It doesn't matter we made it."

"Right, you all did, but keep your wit about you, there is more to come so good luck." Ren said giving us a thumb up and a wink before disappearing as I said quietly, "So vague…"

We walked in spotting Kurenai's team in the corner talking but they perked up when they saw us seeing Kiba smirk saying, "Looks like we beat you losers."

"The competition isn't over yet dog boy, I'll still be a Chunin before you." Reno said pumping his fist towards Kiba making me roll my eyes beside Hayner.

I watched Kiba stiffen up looking behind us seeing three sand kids walk past us not looking in our direction feeling Hinata walk closer to me seeing fear growing in their eyes. Kiba began whispering about them telling us how brutal they were against another team killing them all.

"We could take them, I bet they're not that tough." Reno said crossing his arms hearing Hayner say, "You shouldn't underestimate an opponent you know nothing about."

"He's right Reno, but hey we may find out sooner rather than later." I said nudging him while he nodded stretching his limbs out saying, "Nothing to do now but wait."

The next few days went by fast as we spent our time relaxing with Kurenai's team and doing our various exercise techniques to keep us ready for anything. I was sitting on Hayner while he was doing pushups when Anko walked in looking towards us all smirking.

"Alright maggots make your way up to the top floor for your next announcement." She said pointing to the stairs as I got off Hayner and we all began walking.

Looking around I saw there were still a lot of competition left including the entire rookie Genin from Hinata's class. We all stood calmly seeing the Third walk out looking us all over proudly before Anko whispered something to him.

"Never in all the years we've hosted a Chunin exam have we had so many pass the second qualifying exam and for that we will have a pre preliminary round right here." The third said as I looked towards Reno and Hayner surprised watching Reno's face light up.

"This will cut the competition in half as you will be randomly paired with another Genin and fight until one is the victor, or a draw is made." The third said going over the rules as the proctor came out asking if anyone wasn't feeling up to it, they could leave now.

My team and I walked upstairs seeing Ren waving enthusiastically towards us all watching Reno give him a high five while Hayner and I waved.

"Nice to see my baby brother trained you well enough, but if you're up against anyone from my team you'll lose." Kurenai said putting her arm around Ren seeing him huff grumpy causing us all to laugh.

We were silenced by the first two names showing up on the screen seeing it was Sasuke Uchiha and someone else older from the village. I leaned against the railing looking down at the fight seeing Sasuke was clearly holding back gazing over to his sensei Kakashi who was watching him intently.

"Come on Sasuke you're not going to let a great Uchiha loose to that guy?" I heard his teammate taunt with a smirk knowing what he was doing.

I gazed back down seeing Sasuke's demeanor change showing he now had the upper hand bringing his opponent down almost effortlessly. His sensei went down picking him up and taking his partially conscious body outside the room to get healed. Up next was Shino and one of the sound ninjas as they both walked down hearing Kiba cheer on Shino.

I watched feeling my body shiver when Shino's bugs began to appear under his jacket collar as they crawled along his skin. The sound ninja had appeared to have only one working arm but deceived Shino by pulling it out of his sling. It seemed Shino had anticipated this though seeing his hands exploded from the pressure of the bugs blocking the windpipes in his wrist wincing.

Shino walked casually back up towards us feeling him stand beside me doing my best to control my trembling imagining all the creepy bugs moving under his skin. My thoughts were cut off though seeing my name flash up on the screen along with an older boy from our village. I walked calmly down the stairs hearing Reno chant my name making me shake my head but smile lightly.

As soon as we were given the go, I reached for my kunai seeing him put his hand up saying, "I give, she looks too powerful for me."

My eyes widened then narrowed in anger as the proctor said, "Kabuto has forfeited, the match goes to Yuna."

I felt my fist tighten feeling my blood boil seeing him shrug walking away storming angrily back upstairs tightening my fist on the banister. I partially heard one of the sand ninjas was next as I looked towards the Kabuto guy, he knew nothing about me yet assumed I was too powerful, had he known about my clan or was he really that weak?

"Don't let that guy bother you Yuna, you advance and have yet to show what you can really do." Hayner said making me crack a smile feeling my body began to relax, "Thanks Hayner…"

He nodded while Reno patted my back as we all started watching the fight again just in time to see that the sand ninja was a puppet master winning the fight with ease. I frowned seeing that he had broken the man's bones as the medic shinobi carried him out on a stretcher seeing the sand ninja walk back up to his team.

I looked up seeing it was Sakura vs Ino watching the fight as it was clear they were both evenly matched with one another. Ino's clan technique was interesting and quite powerful, but it seemed Sakura's willpower was just a bit stronger breaking out of her mind transfer jutsu. We all watched as with a final blow to one another they both feel unconscious ending the match in a draw.

There sensei came down taking them back up top seeing Hayner's name pop up along with a girl named Tenten. Hayner walked down as his opponent jumped down enthusiastically giving Hayner a friendly smile while he remained emotionless.
