Some aspects are a bit different than the show
Chapter 7: Know Thy Enemy
Leaning over the rail I stood beside Hayner, Naruto, and Shikamaru watching the fight between Gaara and Sasuke it was clear they both were evenly matched. Gaara's sand was hard to break through, but I watched Sasuke use a lightning technique that was able to break through hearing Gaara yell from inside his sand shell. A large abnormal hand came out of his sand ball retracting back in suddenly getting a dizzy feeling.
Shaking my head, I used a hand sign saying, "Release."
Taking a breath, I noticed most of the stadium was filled with sleeping people turning just in time to see Kankuro and Temari grab Gaara and run. Beside me Hayner ran off to follow him followed by Sasuke seeing beside me Shikamaru and Naruto were sleeping. My eyes scanned around no longer seeing Shino making me frown watching Sakura jump down towards me.
"We have to wake them up." she said while I nodded going over to Shikamaru realizing he was simply sleeping making me groan annoyed.
"You guys take Pakkun and go after them, we will hold off the shinobi here." Kakashi yelled towards them while Hayner's father looked towards me saying, "Go with them and find my son Yuna."
"I will." I said jumping off to follow them quickly catching up hoping Hayner was okay.
Eventually Shikamaru stayed behind since we were being followed suddenly stopping as I heard light tapping.
"Yuna, we have to keep moving." Sakura said making me shake my head replying, "You go ahead I have to find Hayner."
Watching her nod worried she jumped off with Naruto making me turn my head to the tapping. Jumping down some trees I saw Hayner laying mostly motionless on the ground except his kunai tapping into the tree. I reached beside him grabbing his hand letting him know I heard his Morse code for help seeing his body relax.
"His puppet's blade was poison." he said weakly making me frown, I wasn't good when it came to poisons, with my own blood I could get rid of it but not his.
I felt tears begin to fill my eyes gripping his hand feeling he was cold to the touch knowing I wouldn't be able to reach help in time with how fast it was spreading. I suddenly felt a presence beside me raising my kunai defensively but stopped seeing Shino.
He kneeled not saying a word as he grabbed a bottle from his pack tilting it down his throat saying, "I noticed poison on that puppet guys weapons, so I brought antidote just in case."
I watched Hayner close his eyes seeing his breathing start to return to normal making me sigh relieved as I looked towards Shino, "Thank you."
"I didn't do it for you, you're my rival now and I will beat you one of these days." he said making me put my head down looking towards Hayner.
I heard people approaching looking behind me to see Hayden's father as well as who I assumed was Shino's father looking down at us. I explained I found Hayner poisoned while Shino was able to stop the poison from spreading with his antidote. Hayner's father picked him up telling me that the fighting was over, but we lost the Hokage making me frown.
"I'll bring Hayner to the hospital, thank you for finding him Yuna and thank you Shino for saving his life." his father said making us both nod while Shino's dad looked towards the both of us saying, "Son why don't you escort Yuna home."
I could see Shino wanted to protest but he nodded watching his father jump off to check on the others up ahead seeing Shino began jumping through the trees. I followed silently beside him feeling my body aching all over ready to sit in a hot bath for the rest of the night. Once we made it back to the village, I took the lead since he didn't know where I lived seeing some of the buildings were damaged. Thankfully my apartment wasn't damaged stopping at my door turning towards him.
"Thank you for escorting me home even though you didn't want to." I said while he eyed me replying, "Now it will be easier knowing where you live."
"So creepy..." I muttered quietly seeing him turn to me knowing he heard me before saying, "Your parents can take it from here."
"Yea..." I said seeing him walk off while I unlocked the door turning the light on to an empty apartment letting out a shaky sigh.
It was times like this I wish I wasn't alone.
I tied my hair back putting on my long black gloves as I stared into the mirror frowning, today was the Hokage's funeral. The last few days were hectic trying to find the shinobi who didn't make it as well as planning for the funeral. Hayner had made a full recovery and was back to his normal quiet attitude while Reno was more determined than ever to get stronger. Hearing a knock at the door I walked towards it seeing Ren smiling down at me.
"Ready to go?" he asked while I nodded following him out as I walked beside him to the funeral seeing Hayner and Reno standing with their parents.
I stared down at the shrine they made for the Hokage seeing his picture as I smiled towards it.
I was running through the forest panting as little cuts were on my skin from hitting branches and vines falling to the ground exhausted. I heard the footsteps fast approaching scrambling to hid behind a tree trembling.
"You can't hide forever girl, we will force you back if we have to." I heard one of the men say suddenly feeling something wrap around my ankle causing me to cry out.
I tried to dig into the ground feeling my blood come to life wrapping around one of the men's neck chocking him. He grunted trying to get my hardened blood off him falling to his knees as another man kicked my side causing my concentration to break.
"Stupid girl, your parents will hear about your defiance of our village." another said seeing him reach down for me making me whimper in fear.
Suddenly a kunai came out of nowhere breaking the vine that had my ankle scooting back until I collided with an older man.
"You are trespassing in the lines of my village I must kindly ask you to leave this area with your ill intents." the man said as my pursuers looked at one another saying, "Yea and who are you to enforce that old man?"
"I am the Hokage of the Hidden Leaf Village, and you are not welcome here." he said seeing the men's eyes widened in slight fear before one said, "Just give us the little blood monster, she's not your concern nor is she from your village."
I hid behind the man as he looked at me saying, "Do you wish to go with these men?"
Shaking my head, I wiped a few tears out of my eyes saying, "No… I'm not a monster I want to choose my own future away from them."
He looked at the men saying, "The girl does not wish to leave so I trust you will take your leave… unless you wish to fight."
Suddenly a few ANBU appeared behind the man making me look at my pursuers seeing them glare towards me than him saying, "Fine… she's your problem now."
They began walking away while he leaned down brushing some of my long red hair out of my eyes saying, "What's your name?"
"Yuna… Yuna Ketsueki." I said quietly while he smiled warmly saying, "I'm Hiruzen Sarutobi, welcome to your new home."
I placed my flower down putting my hand on the stone saying, "Thank you for giving me a home..."
"Hey Yuna." I heard seeing Reno waving towards me while Hayner walked beside him with his usual emotionless expression.
"You think they'll redo the Chunin exams?" he asked while I shook my head saying, "Not for at least another year, besides the village needs to be rebuilt."
"And a new Hokage will need to be appointed." Hayner said while I frowned looking up at the third Hokage's face in the mountain saying, "Yea… It's going to be an interesting few weeks."
"Well with our teamwork we'll help make the village great again." Reno said pumping up his fist before putting his arm around us as we walked together towards the village.
