Chapter 9: A Rest Is What's Best

I could hear muffled voices around me as I groaned going to open my eyes but met with a blaring light trying to adjust.

"Oh she's waking up!" I heard Reno's voice say seeing his pinkish red hair come into view opening my eyes wider.

"What happened?" I asked closing my eyes again hearing Hayner say, "You lost a lot of blood and chakra while you were protecting the Jonin."

My eyes opened quickly sitting up saying, "Are they all okay?"

"They're fine, a little torn up but they'll live we were worried about you though." Reno said making me smile saying, "I'm fine really."

"The doctors want you to stay here for a few days to monitor you." Hayner said making me grumble replying, "Guess it can't be helped."

"Well, we'll leave you be to rest and come by tomorrow to keep you company." Reno said giving me a thumb up while I gave one back watching them walk out of the room.

Leaning back on the bed I sighed already bored seeing it was a beautiful day outside and I was stuck in here for the next few days. Looking down I saw my hand was wrapped up seeing I wasn't wearing my over coat allowing all my scars to be seen on my arms and back. Now that people knew about my ability, I suppose there was no use hiding them all the time now but I still felt ugly with them. Getting up from the bed I felt my legs wobble holding onto the bed for support getting a robe to cover my body better before falling back on the bed.

After a few hours of sitting bored while the nurses brought gross food to help increase my blood flow and hydrate my body I decided to walk around. Holding onto my IV I hobbled out of the room looking around the rooms until I saw Ren in one of the beds. Opening the door, I walked in seeing he was sleeping peacefully but had his side bandaged up with dried blood showing.

"I'm sorry I couldn't help you more." I said quietly while a voice behind me said, "You did well under the circumstance."

Turning I saw Kakashi in the bed staring over at the both of us making me turn towards him saying, "How are you feeling?"

"I'll live though won't be able to move much until I've healed more, you seem to be recovering." he said while I shrugged replying, "They gave me pills to boost my blood flow, I should be fine to go tomorrow I hope."

"Your teammates were here earlier, they seem to really care about you and Ren." he said making me smile towards Ren saying, "Yea they are my best friends and Ren has been an older brother figure to me since I became a Genin."

"If I may ask, where did you come from?" he asked while I sat on the chair beside his bed replying, "My clan is from the Hidden Grass village, I left while I was still in the academy."

"Why'd you leave?" he asked making me look at him saying, "I tell you what, you teach me how to do that Chidori when we get out of here and I'll tell you everything you wanna know."

He seemed to think about it for a moment before seeing him smile under the mask saying, "Deal."

Taking a deep breath, I closed my eyes saying, "My clan is well known in the Grass village in times of war, we believed that our blood was all powerful and wore scars like badges of honor. Many shinobi fell dead to my clan because they were blood thirsty and believed if they weren't conflicting pain, there was no point in living."

Opening my eyes, I looked out the window seeing the sun begin to set saying, "I didn't want to hurt people I wanted to help people, but my clan viewed me as weak because of it. The Grass village wanted as many of my clan as they could to fight and become great shinobi feeling that we were the sole reason for gaining a strong reputation."

"I take it you didn't want to be a part of that either?" he asked while I shook my head saying, "No, so I decided to run away. While escaping I was pursued by shinobi from our village viewing my running away as an act of rebellion but being too precious to let go. It was then I ran into the third Hokage… he saved me and offered me a home here to forge my own path in this world."

"I see… well thank you for telling me your story and I promise once I'm out of here I'll teach you the Chidori." Kakashi said holding his hand out while I took it smiling lightly saying, "You won't regret it."

The next day I sat bored in my bed since the doctors wanted me to wait at least one more day before I was deemed safe to be on my own again. Reno and Hayner came to visit me like they promised, and we all went to see Ren seeing he was recovering fine. After a few hours of all of us chatting I went back to my room in time to see Hinata, Shino and Kiba walk towards me.

"What are you guys doing here?" I asked while Hinata said, "Well… we heard that you helped protect Kurenai-sensei… so we wanted to see how you were doing."

Smiling I replied, "I'm alright but wish they'd let me go home… I'm tired of sitting here."

Hinata came to sit by my bed while the boys stood as Kiba said, "Can't believe Sasuke's brother showed up here that must have really messed him up."

"If he wasn't so blinded by hate he wouldn't have foolishly tried to find him again." Shino commented while I looked at him saying, "Wait Sasuke tried to find him?"

"Yea, he ran off after Naruto, not sure why." Kiba said making me frown remembering what Kakashi said about the Akatsuki wanting to find him but deciding it wasn't my place to say.

Looking at Hinata she seemed worried as I looked up saying, "Hey why did Naruto leave?"

Kiba crossed his arms saying, "He went with that old perverted guy to find the new Hokage… she's supposed to be some sort of Sannin and an incredible healer."

Frowning I looked down, they already found a replacement for the third and despite my better judgement I wished they couldn't replace him so easily. Hinata noticed my sadness and began telling me about Kurenai who was doing fine to brighten my spirits.

"Thanks you guys for coming to visit me, it means a lot." I said giving them a smile as Shino said, "It was Hinata's idea."

"Please Shino you were dying to come too." Kiba said with a toothy smirk seeing Shino instantly glare at Kiba replying, "I was not."

"In any case we will let you rest." Hinata said seeing the heat pass between the boys waving her hand defensively.

Kiba waved at me while Shino stormed out with Hinata last giving me one last small smile before disappearing.
