Chapter 14: When the Ship Starts Rocking

"What do you mean there are no more ferries, it's not even sundown yet." I said looking at the man in front of us as he replied, "Sorry kids but ever since this whole demon thing you won't find anyone to ferry you to the island at night."

"There must be another way onto the island." Shino said while he looked deep in thought saying, "Well if it's that important to you I guess you could borrow my little boat."

"We'll take it." Shino and I said together looking at each other for a moment then away as the man said, "Alright I'll rent it to you guys, hope you enjoy a romantic getaway."

"That's not..." I began but he was already walking away making me sigh seeing him pull out a little boat dropping it into the water before tying it off.

After he left, Shino and I stood waiting for Naruto seeing the sun was starting to set as I said, "Don't you think maybe one of us should look for him… and where is Anko?"

"I sent my bugs to find Naruto as for Anko she will get here when she's ready." I scrunched my nose at the thought of Shino's bugs scouting for Naruto but looked out at the water saying, "You saw it too… the look she gave when I mentioned the island."

"Yes… something about this place scares her." he said making me cross my arms saying, "I wonder what it could be..."

I saw him go to speak but he turned past me hearing footsteps and Naruto running out of breath saying, "Man I've been looking everywhere for you guys."

"Next time you should tell us before running off." Shino said in his usual serious tone while I tilted my head saying, "You and Anko are one of a kind in that retrospect."

"You can't lump me into the same category as that psycho she's certifiably insane!" Naruto yelled suddenly seeing Anko behind him putting a kunai to his throat saying, "Sorry who are we talking about?"

Naruto laughed nervously as she looked beside Shino and I saying, "Good job on securing a boat by the way."

"Where have you been?" I asked curiously as she smiled saying, "I was out gathering more information, but we should head out."

Nodding we all hoped in the boat as I sat down with Shino beside me and Anko across making Naruto be the one to paddle, he happily agreed. We all sat in a comfortable silence as it began to get darker out trying to suppress a yawn from the light rocking of the boat.

"We should be almost there now." Anko said as Naruto gave a thumb up saying, "Mother Island full speed ahead!"

"Where on earth do you get all your energy..." I said now unable to hold in another yawn as he smiled saying, "At times like this your state of mind is key."

"You must drive Kakashi insane sometimes… I'm starting to feel bad for him." I said with a hint of sarcasm making Anko start to laugh but it was cut short feeling something hit our boat.

We stopped moving as Shino went to go help Naruto while Anko noticed a whirlpool in front of us, "We need to change course now."

"The oar is jammed..." Naruto said trying to move it while Shino went over to help making me stand up, "Here let me try."

I started walking when suddenly, I was lifted by something wrapping itself around me flinging me high in the air. I felt myself get flung around the air looking down to see Anko attacking whatever grabbed me. Feeling my body get released from the grip I went hurling downwards to the water seeing a piece of the boat fly up smacking me in the head. The last thing I felt was being caught by someone before everything went dark.

Groaning I felt myself sitting on something soft opening my eyes to adjust to the darkness seeing we were moving in a boat again.

Moving my eyes more I saw Anko was steering the boat seeing her look down at me saying, "Hey you're awake, missed all the fun too."

"What happened?" I asked hearing above me, "You hit your head on the way down, lucky for you I caught you otherwise you'd be lost at sea like Naruto."

My eyes suddenly widening to realize Shino was holding me making me turn red in embarrassment shimming out of his grip.

"Wait what do you mean like Naruto, where is he?" I asked worried seeing Anko frown replying, "We got separated plus with this fog and barely any visibility we decided to head for shore and look in the morning.

"He could be in trouble though." I said looking out at the water hearing Shino say, "Naruto is resilient he will be fine."

Nodding I sat back in the boat as Anko docked against the island, sitting on the ground we watched Anko make a fire. She was the first to look around the area leaving me alone with Shino who stood beside a tree looking out at the water.

"I'm surprised you were taken down so easily." Shino said making me look over at him replying, "What do you mean, we were all caught off guard."

"Had Anko not saved you they would have dragged you underwater, and you'd be lost like Naruto." he said while I replied, "I would have gotten out of it, you're forgetting I've outsmarted you in a fight."

I saw his eyes turn towards me saying, "A mistake I won't make again the next time we fight."

"You make it sound like I have a desire to fight you again..." I said running my finger along the sand while he said, "I should hope so, as my rival I expect to defeat you."

"Maybe I don't want to fight you." I said as he crossed his arms saying, "You hate me, I thought you'd jump at the chance to try and humiliate me… again."

Rolling my eyes I said, "I've told you I don't hate you… just hate your bugs."

Hearing sudden buzzing my body tensed up seeing the bugs begin to seep out of his pores making me look up at him while he said, "The bugs and I are one, you hate one then inevitably you hate the other."

Turning away from him wanting to attempt to get some sleep I said softly, "If that is what you believe then fine."

"Mommy please let me out!" I said banging on the door desperately trying to break it down.

"You need to learn discipline you will stay there till I deem you ready." I heard on the other side as my eyes tried to adjust to the darkness smelling the rotten wood and moss under my feet.

Realizing it was helpless I moved away reaching up to wipe the tears from my eyes as I started to walk around. Cracks of the night sky showed through the roof but otherwise I couldn't see much moving around the room. Taking a step, I felt the wood begin to give way as I quickly moved only to have my foot get stuck.

Sniffling in despair I tried to pull it out but not having any luck letting out a defeated whine looking at the door. I suddenly felt movement around my leg tickling it until the feeling I felt was all over my foot and leg. Crying out I tried to pull it out knowing bugs had started to crawl all over me but unable to move as they began biting.

Screaming for someone anyone to help me I continued to helplessly escape the feeling of them crawling and gnawing on my skin until I yelled my voice hoarse.
