Summary: The twins learn about the wonders of breakfast foods, namely, pancakes.
Note: A little something to break up the heavier topics of the last few chapters, set when they haven't returned to Midgar just yet.
A pair of bright green eyes widened, Ariana innocently poking at a flat, circular piece of flatbread.
Both twins were in the shared kitchen of the SOLDIER base, with both Sephiroth and Angeal supervising the children while Genesis went to straighten some paperwork out.
"Papa Ange…what's this called?" the twelve year old looked up at the black haired SOLDIER with a questioning raise of her eyebrow, her head tilting to the side.
"A pancake. It's technically classified as a form of flatbread, but usually it's eaten for breakfast, alongside either a sweet syrup or a fruit based preserves," Sephiroth helpfully informed her first, "Genesis was beside himself when I mentioned never consumed one as a child."
"Pancake…do you think it's tasty?" Aridai asked, sharing a glance with his sister.
"Why don't you try some and think about it?" Angeal handed the boy a fork and knife, allowing him to cut into a piece, along with a jar of strawberry jam. The man turned back to the stove, pouring the batter to make another one.
"Ari, Ari! Gimme some!" Ariana opened her mouth expectantly like a little chick, going 'aaaaahhhhhh!'.
Aridai rolled his eyes at her before scooping out a portion of jam, plopping it on a cut slice of pancake, spearing it and holding it to her mouth. The silver/red haired girl pounced, the fork quickly darting back so she didn't chomp on the metal.
"Ahmm! Hm…" the older girl chewed, humming, "Mmmmm!"
"Guess she likes it," Aridai muttered, before giving himself a forkful of pancake.
"Hm…" he deliberated, before swallowing.
"Ari, do you think it's good? I do!" Ariana gazed at her brother with an overeager expression, waiting for his judgement.
"I think I'll eat mine plain," the younger boy decided, "You can keep that one Ana."
"Yes!" the girl tugged the plate towards her, then darted to the cutlery drawer to retrieve another fork, "Victory's mine!"
"What victory?" Aridai demanded, "There was no contest!"
"Don't care, this pancake's mine now."
Ariana grabbed the jar to spoon more jam on her pancake, cramming the breakfast food into her mouth.
"Mmmmm!"
Aridai sighed, before smiling at her.
Prodding his sister, Ariana straightened, noticing him flick the sign for 'Gratitude'.
"Thank you, Papa Ange!" they both chorused, and Angeal laughed softly.
"You're welcome, kiddos."
End Note:And yes, when I typed out "no contest" I immediately thought it in the Super Smash Bros. announcer's voice.
