Chapter 1
A Mischievous Devil and a Warden
Welcome to the Boiling Illes, not known to the outside where witches and demons all co-exist. Sometimes peacefully, other times not so, but it's home to the greatest warrior of all time. A man with white hair and the best of the 'I don't give a f*ck attitude'. Dante.
He was sleeping in his office chair, a pizza on his face when a woman came out with some mail. This was his wife Lady. No really her name was Lady, don't know why she named herself that, but ok.
Lady: Dante. Have you anyone lately?
Dante quickly woke up hearing his wife speak as he yawned leaning into his chair.
Dante: Yeah. It's been quiet. A little too quiet.
They then hear crashing in the next room over as they finally realized.
Dante/Lady: Dayton?!
They quickly rushed into the upstairs apartment they own. They then hear another crash in their room with a thump on the ground. They rush into their room seeing that it was all a mess. The floor was scratched and picture frames were broken and the thing that caused all this destruction was a white haired seven year-old. This was Dayton Alighieri, son of Dante and Lady.
He was on the floor rubbing his white head, in his hand he held Dante sword, Devil's Arms, as he looked up to see his parents staring down at him.
Dayton: Hey mom, hey dad. Um… how is it going?
He crossed his arms trying to look innocent when a vase fell from a shelf. Dante and Lady look at their son, Lady shook her head as Dante let out a snicker.
Lady: Dayton, what did we say about playing with swords inside the house?
Dayton: Um… not too.
Lady groans at her son's antics as she goes to clean up the room. Dante picks up his sword trailering it around a little.
Dante: Let me tell you something little man. It's gonna be a while before you get to wield this bad boy.
He puts back on the stand it was originally on. Dayton looks down in sadness hearing his dad's words.
Dayton: Sorry Dad… I just wanted to try it out.
Dante looked at his son as he exited the room. He then got an idea. He went to his closet before he rummaged through it before finding what he was looking for.
Dante: Jackpot!
Lady looked behind her. She smiled while rolling her eyes hearing the iconic catchphrase.
Lady: I hope he's ready.
Dante then entered Dayton's room which was filled with old artifacts of Dante's adventures. Dante also looked at some posters of Hexside and a picture of three of his friends when they were younger. Willow, who is seen growing plants and Agustin who made an illusion surrounding Dayton.
There was actually a problem with the last one. The face of it was ripped off. Dante looked at it in sadness when heard rummaging in the closet.
He opened it seeing Dayton using a stick as a sword hitting some dummies around. He knocked down a dummy and stepped onto its chest.
Dayton: HAHAHA! You won't be able to beat the awesome Dayton, monsters!
Dante's laughter made Dayton jump up and land onto the dummy's stomach.
Dayton: Dad! What are you doing here?
Dante: What? Can't your old man can't come into his son's room?
Dayton stayed silent as Dante looked around the room seeing all the artifacts of his adventures. There were the many green and red orbs he collected through all the times. Those kept him dying time and time again.
There was also Ebony and Ivory, two of Dante's most iconic guns. Dante grabs them both, seeing how they both like they were brand new.
Dante: Have you been taking care of these?
Dayton: Well yeah. They are your most iconic gun. You used these for all your adventures and someday I'm gonna be just like you.
Dante chuckled and pats Dayton on the head.
Dante: You don't have to be like me. All you have to do is be you, Dayton. You are gonna have your own adventures. Me? I'm just gonna be on the sidelines helping you.
He then takes something out from behind him. A familiar looking sword. Dayton gasped seeing it.
Dayton: Rebellion?! Your old sword!
Dante: Yup and it's all yours.
Dayton grabs the hilt of the sword. The sword shines with a white light as Dayton sees his reflection in the sword.
Dante: Now it's time for you to have your legacy.
Dayton looked at his dad before running up on him, giving him a hug.
Dayton: Thanks dad.
Dante chuckles as he hugged him back.
Dante: No problem kid.
Now a new story is in place with the son of Dante. Soon two unlikely people from different will conjoin to fight a greater form.

Seven years later in the Boiling Isles, there was a scream coming in through the woods. A little hafling was backed into a tree as two demons crawled toward it.
Hafling: Please, I'm too young to die!
Demon: The younger, the better.
They then hear a shot coming from the woods. They both dodged the bullet as it hit the tree by the halfling. The demons extended their fangs and claws, ready for an attack.
Demon: Who dares disturb our feeding?!
The woods were silent when someone came out with two guns, red and black, pointing them at the two demons, the guns called Pain and Gain. They were a Hexside uniform with purple sleeves meaning they were in the oracle coven. It was Dayton, now forteen years of age.
Dayton: Ok I'll like to comment on what you said and I'd like to say that sounded wrong on so many levels.
Demon: Silence mortal! You have interrupted our supper and will pay the price.
Dayton: Ok then let's quit with the chit chat then.
The demons rushed at him, the first one swiping at him as he dodge it and shooting at the second who tried jumping at him.
Dayton: Wow, I fought dummies tougher than you and they don't even move.
The other tried to sneak attack him before Dayton smiled as he summoned Rebellion and struck him in the chest. The demon screamed in pain being knocked to the ground.
Demon: You insolent BRAT!! I will gouge out your intestines and hang you where you stand!!!
Dayton just mocked by using his hand as a puppet, making it mimic everything he says. The demon roared in anger and rushed at him with its claws out.
Dayton smiles as he raises his sword up when the demon leaped towards him letting out a heart piercing roar. In one slice he was able to cut through the demon making it turn to dust.
Dayton: Whew! What a rush!
Dayton gave a toothy smile when he ducked over a swipe from the last demon.
Dayton: You thought I forgot about you?
The growled as it tried to jump at Dayton, but it was stopped by a barrel of a pistol. Dayton chuckled as the demon looked at him with terrified eyes.
Dayton: Jackpot.
A bang was heard in a distance as the hafling was cowering in fear when Dayton kneels down to it.
Dayton: Hey little guy. No need to be afraid, I took down the demons for ya.
The halfling slowly raises its head, seeing Dayton looking down on it.
Dayton: Everything's ok. I handled it. You could say they were a little sinisterly awful.
The halfling snickered a little as it got up on its feet and ran back into the forest. Dayton smiled before he realized something.
Dayton: Oh shoot! I'm so late!
He then booked it through the woods as we arrived at the market district to the boiling Isles. Where people, monsters, and demons alike go to buy and trade.
At a stand a grayed hair lady was sitting at her stand playing with a spoon. This was Eda, the Owl Lady.
Eda: Ugh! So bored! Where is that thing anyway?
She then heard a hoot come from the back of her tent. Coming through the tent was a little wooden owl who was dragging a bag filled with stuff. This was Owlbert, a palisman.
Eda: Finally, you're back.
The owl puts the bag on the counter and lands on top of Eda's staff. She took a few things that would make her rich, but didn't know what they were.
Eda Garbage, garbage, garbage.Now, this...
She takes out a pair of joke glasses with eyes on springs and puts them on.
Eda: This will make me rich.
She then takes out some book with a witch cover on it.
Eda: And this... Oh, this will make good kindling.
She puts it over a candle when a 14 year-old tan-skin girl grabs the book and runs back into the tent.
?: Excuse me, sorry, it's mine, thank you.
She runs back into the tent and heads for a glowing door. It folds up before she can walk through it and disappears. She turns around to see Eda with a key with the same eye that was on the door.
Eda: You're not going anywhere.
She screams and shoves Azura into her messenger bag and ducks out the back of the tent. She runs, and skids to a stop mere inches away from falling off a cliff. She looks around the vast town below her, full of different creatures alike. She was astounded when a little fairy flew up to her.
?: Oh, hello, little fairy. Are you going to tell me this is all a fantastical dream?
The fairy then barred out razor sharp fangs.
Fairy: Give me your skin!
The girl screams when the fairy is bonked on the head.
Fairy: Hey!
?: Pixie! What did I say about trying to eat people's skin?
They both look over to see Dayton who had a look of disappointment. Pixie looked down in shame.
Pixie: To ask first…
Dayton: Good now go ask someone else.
Pixie sighs as she flys away leaving a pixie dust behind. Dayton shakes his head.
Dayton: Tsk, tsk. I keep telling that fairy that if she's hungry she has to ask.
He then walked over to the girl who backed away from him slightly.
Dayton: Yo, sorry about that. She gets kinda hungry sometimes. Names Dayton.
?: Um… I'm Luz and I just have a few questions. Where am I? Did I die? Am I in the bad place?
Dayton chuckles at the girled now named Luz.
Dayton: You wish.
Eda then came from behind her and grabbed her by the shoulder.
Eda: How's it going?
Eda then takes her back to her stand and sits her down in a stool.
Luz: I'm so sorry! I just wanted my book! If you're gonna eat my skin, just make it quick! Just do it now!
She held out her arms and closed her eyes. Dillon laughs, wiping a tear away.
Dayton: We don't do that here. Well we don't everyone else, maybe.
Eda: Why would I eat... a potential customer?
Luz looks up at them in confusion. Eda then pulls out a crock.
Eda: Can I offer you a human foot filled with holes?
Dayton: Crock.
She then pulls out a stick of men's deodorant.
Eda: A bar of green human candy?
Dayton: Deodorant.
Eda: Oh, oh! How about this black shadow box that reflects only sadness?
She then shows her a portable TV that shows Luz reflection.
Dayton: Aka a TV.
Eda rolls her eyes at the boy's comments.
Eda: And you think you know everything.
Dayton: That's because I do know everything, Aunt Eda.
Eda then puts him into a headlock as the scruffles a little laughing. Luz then lets out a chuckle as looks at the TV.
Luz: That's not all it can do. Here, let me see it.
Luz takes the tv and grabs two batteries from a dish labeled "Human candy! (????)" She puts the batteries in and presses the power button. A jazzercise video starts playing with loud music.
Luz: Voilà!
Others then become allured by the sounds of the TV. Bringing in some customers which crowded around the stand.
Monster #1: [holding up green bills] I'll pay 40 snails for the screaming box!
Monster #2: I'll give you a hundred!
Monster #3: Can I eat the tiny person inside?
Other people then started coming and trying to buy her other human artifacts.
Dayton: Whoa! I haven't seen this much of a crowd since yesterday!
Eda smiles as she takes some money from the people.
Eda: What did you say your name was?
Luz: I'm Luz. Luz Noceda.
Eda: Well, Luz, that was pretty clever... for a human.
Luz: That's kind of a weird thing for another human to say.
Eda: Oh, dear child, I'm not like you.
She takes off her bandana revealing pointy ears. She climbs up on her stand shouting out to the crowd.
Eda: I'm Eda the Owl Lady, the most powerful witch on the Boiling Isles!
Dayton snicker and whispers to Luz.
Dayton: And has the biggest ego of all time.
He was then hit on the head by Eda with her staff. He rubs his head growling.
Luz: A witch?
Eda: I am a respected, feared‐‐
Guard #1: Busted!
A guard smashed the TV as the crowd ran away from the stand. Eda jumps off her stand as the guard holds up a wanted poster.
Guard: Eda the Owl Lady, you are wanted for misuse of magic and demonic misdemeanors.
Luz: Whoa! Witch criminal!
Dayton: I wouldn't say criminal more like someone very misunderstood.
The guard grabs Eda's arm.
Guard: You are hereby ordered to come with me to the Conformatorium.
Dayton then steps in taking his arms off Eda.
Dayton: Whoa, whoa, whoa! Hold on buddy! You don't go touching my aunt like that.
Eda: Yeah! Would you guys quit following me around? I haven't done squat.
Guard #1: And you're coming too…
He grabs both Luz and Dayton by their collars.
Luz: Aah!
Dayton: Hey! Hands off!
Guard: ...for fraternizing with a criminal.
Luz: Wh‐What? That's not cool!
Eda: Oh, all right, all right, you win. Just let me get my stuff.
Eda reaches under the table and grabs her staff, swinging it at the guard. He falls to the ground with a grunt Eda spins her staff and taps the bottom of it on the table, making all her stuff float in midair. Luz and Dayton pick herself and her book off the ground.
Dayton: Later sucker!
Eda: Whoops. Can't forget this.
Eda reaches into her hair and pulls out the key, pressing the eye to summon the portal door. She closes her hand into a fist, making the tablecloth wrap itself around all of her stuff. She sticks her staff through the bundle and starts running.
Eda: Follow me.
Luz: This is crazy. If I die here, my mom's gonna kill me!
Dayton: Eh, won't be that bad for you. My mom would just ground me for getting killed so easily.
Eda: Ha! I won't let 'em hurt you. A human like you is much more valuable to me alive than dead.
Luz: Wait. What's that supposed to‐‐
Eda: Whoo‐hoo!
Eda jumps, pulling herself, Luz, Dayton onto her staff. They take off into the sky, leaving the guard in his dust.
Guard #1: You won't get away with this, Owl Lady! Yeah, all right. You did. You got away with it. She got away with it, everybody! Typical.
Eda and the teen were flying in the sky. Luz was holding tight onto Eda waist as Dayton was standing on broom leaning onto Eda.
Eda: You can open your eyes now, human.
Luz slowly opens her eyes before yelling seeing how she is. She almost falls, getting caught by Dayton who sits her straight up.
Dayton: Whoa there partner! Don't want you to go splat on the ground do we.
Luz: Flying staff, crazy monsters, you're a witch! What is this place?
Eda: This is the Boiling Isles. Every myth you humans have is caused by a little of our world leaking into yours.
Various winged creatures fly behind them as Eda talks. A griffin flew past the group letting out a screech in the air.
Luz: A griffin!
The grinding them barfs out spiders.
Luz: I knew it!
Dayton: Just don't invite one into your home. I learned from experience.
Eda: Griffins, vampires, giraffes...
Luz: Giraffes?
Eda: Oh, yeah. We banished those guys. Bunch of freaks.
Eda lands on the staff and hops off, though her hand stays behind. Luz sees it move on its own. She jumped off screaming as Dayton chuckled. He takes the two hands and tosses them to Eda.
Eda: Oops. That happens sometimes.
Luz: Well, I've had enough adventure for today. This is clearly not the PG fantasy world I always dreamed about. So, can you help me get back home?
Eda levels her staff in front of Luz, startling her.
Eda: Only if you help me first.
She chuckles as she levitates her bag towards her, walking into the forest. Dayton follows her before looking towards Luz.
Dayton: You comin' human?
Luz: Um, yeah sure.
They walked deeper into the forest until they got to an opening. Sitting there is a small house. Luz looked over shoulder, looking. Kinda worried.
Luz: Aren't you worried about those guards finding us?
Eda: Nope. My house has a state‐of‐the‐art defense system.
On the door of the house is a small wooden owl face. This was Hooty.
Hooty: Hoot‐hoot! Password, please!
Eda pokes her fingers into his eyes.
Hooty: Aah!
Eda: We got no time for this, Hooty. Let us in.
Dayton leans over to Luz.
Dayton: He can be pretty–not mostly annoying at times.
Hooty: All right, all right! Geez! You never want to have any fun! Ow! Hoot!
Hooty opens his mouth wide enough to completely cover the door. Eda, Luz and Dayton step into the house as Hooty closes his mouth.
Eda: Welcome to the Owl House...
Candles ignite, a fire in the fireplace starts, a cauldron starts stirring itself, and a broom starts sweeping the floor. Overhead, a depiction of an owl beast of some kind begins to glow with a great screeching noise. Luz looks at all of this in awe.
Dayton: And to put into perspective, they don't cook owls here.
Luz: Thought so.
Eda: This is where I hide away from the pressures of modern life. Also the cops. Mm, also ex‐boyfriends.
Luz: This place is beautiful! Do you two live here all alone?
Dayton: I don't actually live here. Aunt Eda is the only other person living her well except someone else.
Thudding footsteps shake the house. Coming down the stairs is a mighty being that could crush people with the flick of his finger.
?: Who dares intrude upon I.
Is what I would say if he wasn't so soft and cuddly with a bathrobe on and a squeaky duck aka King.
King: The king of demons!
Dayton rolls his eyes as Luz rushes in to give the little guy a hug.
Luz: ¡Ay, que lindo! Eda, he's so cute! Who's a widdle guy? Who's a widdle guy? Is it you? Is it you?
King didn't really like the snuggling as he struggled. to get out of Luz's hugs.
King: No! I don't know who your little guy is! Eda, Dayton, who is this monster?!
Dayton takes Long out of Luz's arms, making her whimper in sadness.
Dayton: King this is Luz, a human. Luz this the King of cuddles.
King smacks him in the arm making him chuckle.
Dayton: I mean demons.
Eda: She's here to help us with our little... situation.
King: Oh! Hooray!
Luz: Wait, wait, wait. I don't like the sound of this "situation".
Eda: Just... let me explain.
She draws a spell circle that darkens and effectively turns into a storybook.
Eda: King was once a mighty king of demons, until his Crown of Power was stolen, and he became... this.
Luz: You mean this little bundle of joy?
Dayton: This snooball is what you call pure evil in snowball.
He then whispers to Luz.
Dayton: Which I call an absolute win.
King smacks him again which made the teens chuckle.
Eda: The crown is being held by the evil Warden Wrath and locked away behind a magical force field that only a human can break through.
Dayton: I was gonna go in it, until you came along.
Luz: You? I thought you weren't human?
Dayton puts a finger up.
Dayton: That's what you thought. In actuality I'm half human and half demon.
Luz's eyes widened in surprise hearing the boy's words.
Dayton: Let's do this one more time!
He jumps onto the coffee table pointing a thumb at himself.
Dayton: The names Dayton Alighieri, son of Dante and Lady!
Luz: Lady?
Eda: Just go with it. I thought it was weird too.
Dayton: My dad has gone through all kinds of adventures and I want to go on my own as well. So that's what I'm gonna do! Everyone's gonna know the name of Dayton the Demon Slayer!
Luz looks at the boy before looking at her book. In the cover she sees her childhood role model. Azure. A witch that goes on dastardly adventures with her companions. By her is a young boy, same as Azure who has the same smile and attitude as the boy right in front of him. She then turns her attention to Eda.
Eda: A human like you. If you help us retrieve his crown, we'll send you back to your realm. So whaddya say? Plus, who could say no to this cute face?
She picks up King who struggles in her hold.
King: No! Please don't encourage her! Nyeh!
Eda: I mean, we're kinda your only way home.
Luz: So I don't really have a choice, do I?
Eda: Nope.
She picks Luz up and tosses her over her shoulder as she heads for the door, Dayton hopping off the table following from behind.
Eda: Now, we've got no time to lose.
Dayton: Time to go steal a crown!
King: Soon, Mr. Ducky, we shall drink the fear of those who mocked us.
He picks up his rubber duck, following behind the others.
Luz: Where are we going?
Eda: Somewhere super fun.
They all arrive at the Conformatorium in the dead of night.
Eda: The Conformatorium, a place for those considered unsuitable for society.
Dayton: Aka the people they think have issues.
Luz notices the wanted poster of Eda on the wall.
Luz: Whoa. These guys really have the hots for you.
Eda: Yep. But we were never caught because we're too slippery.
King: Try to catch me when I'm covered in grease. I'm a squirmy little fella.
Luz turns her attention to Dayton.
Luz: Do you have a wanted poster?
Dayton: Nah. I slay demons on the outskirts of town. So it's not illegal until you get caught.
Luz giggles at his little joke when King walks in front of the two.
King: You two and I will sneak up to the top of the tower, where they're holding my crown.
Eda: And I'm gonna make sure the warden's distracted.
Luz: Will we need a disguise?
Eda: Uh...
Luz: I've been waiting to use this.
She pulls up her hood and brings out cat ears.
Luz: Meow Meow!
King: It's hideous.
Dayton: Oh, Luz. It's great, but can you do this!
He brings out a cowboy hat and puts it on his head. A red scarf appeared tapped around his neck as he posed, having hand on the hat while pointing at the group.
Luz: Whoa! I love it!
King: It just shows power!
Eda: Oh, you'll fit right in.
Eda taps the butt of her staff against the ground, creating a round glowing platform under Luz, King, and Dayton. She steps away from it.
Eda: Hang on tight.
Luz: Whoa!
The platform rises, floating all the way up to a window in the tower. Dayton quickly slips through the window as the platform disappears suddenly, forcing Luz to grab the edge of the window sill and King to cling to her feet.
Eda, meanwhile, tosses her staff and casually sits down on it as it rises.
Eda: Meet you guys at the top of the tower.
Dayton: Don't worry I got you.
Dayton pulls them both into the window, accidentally dropping them both on the ground.
Dayton: Oops. Sorry about that.
King: Ha‐ha! Cat's don't do that.
Luz sits up and gasped marveling at the amount of prison cells before them, all of them occupied by shadowy beasts of varying shapes and sizes, though all of their eyes glow in the light. There are three separate people being Katya, EyeBall, and little nose.
Katya: Hey, cat lady, cowboy, how'd you get out of your cell?
Luz: Oh, no, no, no. I'm not a cat. Also, I'm not a criminal.
Dayton: Keep telling yourself that.
Katya: Neither are we. The stupid warden likes to lock people up who don't fit in. Like, I write fanfics of food falling in love.
She pulls out a journal filled to the brim with fanfiction of food falling in love. Dayton takes the book and reads a few pages of it.
Dayton: Hm, not bad. You should try posting this, but I doubt there's a website for that.
He winks randomly confusing Luz as he hands it back to Katya.
Katya: This guy got it. I like food, I like love... Just let me write about it.
In the other cell beside her is an orc who only has eyes all around him.
Eye-Eating Prisoner: I'm here because I like eating my own eyes.
He plucks an eye out of his head as he says this, swallowing it. The eye floats back into place.
Dayton looked towards the last cell as he gasped. He sees his favorite person ever that could compete against his dad. Little Nose who is an actual nose
Tiny Nose: We are agents of fwee expwession! They will never siwence us!
Dayton: Tiny Nose!
Tiny Nose: (le gasp!) Dayton!
Little Nose tried jumping at him for a hug, but got stuck between the bars.
Tiny Nose: Dang metal bars!
Dayton: Little Nose you've been here the whole time. I've been looking for you everywhere.
Little Nose: I got captuwed when I was making a conwpiracy about dogs. They shall not be twusted!
Dayton chuckles at the girl's crazy conspiracy.
Dayton: Good old, Little Nose.
Katya: Yeah, she's really big into conspiracy theories.
Tiny Nose: The world is a simulation! We are but playthings for a higher being!
Luz: Wait. These aren't crimes. None of you actually did anything wrong.
She pulls Eda's wanted poster and looks at it in sorrow.
Luz: You're all just a bunch of weirdos. Like me.
Dayton's smile slowly falls as he hears Luz's words.
Dayton: Well this place doesn't like people that are special or unique. All they care about is that we all stay in line. We all gotta be the same dumb magic, same dumb plans, same dumb everything. Well you know what I say about that!
He points his thumb at himself, giving out his signature smile.
Dayton: I'm gonna make my own path. I don't need anyone to tell me what I'm gonna do and say. Just like my old man has said, to make my own path.
Luz looked up at the boy as he shines with courage and optimism, but they're all interrupted by thudding footsteps that attract their attention.
Katya: It's Warden Wrath! Hide!
The teens and King both quickly entered a cell as the warden entered the chamber.
Warden Wrath: I can hear you.
Luz whimpered as Dayton put a hand on her shoulder.
Wrath: Just what are you fools whispering about?
He looks down at Eda's wanted poster that Luz had dropped
Wrath: Ah. The Owl Lady.
He picks up the poster and crumples it, turning his fist into a hammer and slamming it into the door of Luz and Dayton's cell. Luz clenches a hold around Dayton's neck making him choke.
Wrath: I'll get my hands on her soon enough.
Warden Wrath looks into the cell, where Luz, King, and the quality gagging Dayton are huddled in the corner. He was then stopped by Little Nose's protest.
Tiny Nose: Fight against the oppwessor! We will wesist! We will conquer! We will never be afwaid of you, you old cweep!
Warden Wrath walks over to her cell and opens it. She stares at the opening door.
Tiny Nose: Hooway! I'm fwee!
[Warden Wrath grabs Tiny Nose, his fist fitting around her entire body. Dayton, seeing his little friend, tries to force himself out of Luz's arms, but Luz keeps him tight in her arms making him choke more. Wrath holds her up and points at the other two prisoners.
Wrath: Let this be a lesson to all of you. There's no place in society for you if you can't fit in.
He tightens his grip, making Tiny Nose squeak again. Warden Wrath stomps away, crushing the crumpled up wanted poster on his way out. Dayton burst out of Luz's grip on pure anger, he summoned Rebellion and readied a blow at Wrath's neck, but the door slammed into his face. He faceplants into the door, slowly sliding off the door and onto the floor. Luz comes out of her cell, running to Katya.
Luz: Don't worry. I can get you out.
She tried to pull the lever for the cells, but her arms were too weak.
Luz: No! My weak nerd arms!
Katya: Just get out of here while you still can, kid. Enjoy freedom for us.
Katya walks deeper in her cell. Luz reluctantly walks away. Dayton swings his sword, trying to break through the door. Luz grabs his shoulder making him stop mid swing.
Luz: We gotta go.
Dayton: But they got Little Nose! We gotta go get her!
Luz: I want to help her too, but we have to get the crown for King.
King: Yes! The little nose can wait! I need my power!
Dayton lowers his head as he sighs.
Dayton: Yeah you're right, but as soon as we're done I'm going to go rip someone's head off.
King then led them down the chamber to a door labeled "Contraband" when Eda flew in behind them
Eda: Hey, I just checked. The warden is distracted, tormenting some tiny creature. He won't be coming around here anytime soon.
Luz passed by Eda who had a downed expression. She looked concerned as Dayton passed by. She grabbed him by the collar and made him face her.
Eda: What happened to her?
Dayton: ….Stuff.
They then hear a scream coming from King.
King: My crown! It's close! I can sense its power!
He runs up to the door and fiddles with the doorknob that's as big as he is.
Eda: Aw, he gets so cute when he's thirsty for power.
Luz: It's not fair that they're all in here. They just want to be themselves. Why does everyone think that being a weirdo is so bad?
Dayton: Luz…
The doorknob is thrown to the ground with a clink. King pushes open the door, cackling, and runs through.
Eda: Come on, before he hurts himself.
King: Ow!
Luz, Dayton, and Eda follow King in. Inside of the room, which is empty save a giant glowing pillar in the center. King rubs his skull before charging at the pillar headfirst, succeeding only in launching himself backwards.]
Eda: We have a human and a half-human, remember?
King: Oh, yeah.
Luz puts a hand against the pillar nervously. Dayton just walked through it with no problem dragging Luz with. Inside are piles of what can only be described as junk: everything from books to skulls to a dead fish in a tank. Atop the central one is a glowing crown.
Dayton: Welp there it is.
Luz: Wait a second. Is that a...
They come back out with Luz holding a Burger Queen paper crown, looking incredibly frustrated. Dayton looked quite proud of himself.
Dayton: We achieve the artifact, your highness.
King: My crown!
He grabs the crown from Luz's hand and puts it on.
King: Yes. Yes! I can feel my powers returning! You, there. Nightmare critter.
He points to a stuffed rabbit with one button eye falling out of a box.
King: I shall call you Francois, and you shall be a minion in my army of darkness. Ha‐ha!
Dayton: He's so cute when he thinks he has power.
Luz: That crown doesn't give him any powers, does it?
Eda: Uh, no.
Luz glares at Eda for lying to her.
Eda: Oh, look at us, Luz. King and I don't have much in this world. We only have each other. So if that dumb crown is important to him, it's important to me. Dayton is a guy that actually understands us other than his father. That's why he calls me Aunt Eda because he honestly respects me.
Dayton puts his hand to his heart as he sheds a tear.
Dayton: Awww, I love you too Aunt Eda!
He goes in for a hug, but Eda sidesteps him, making him fall on his face.
Eda: And besides, us weirdos have to stick together, you know?
Luz grins and blushes a little.
Eda: Well, we owe you one. Now, let's get out of here before the warden finds us and loses his head.
Warden Wrath: Too late.
Warden Wrath's hand turns into a blade, and with an easy swing he decapitates Eda. Luz catches her head making her scream her head off. Not literally.
Dayton sees this as his anger flares up. He jumps up to his feet and Simmons Rebellion, going for the attack. Wrath jumps away from his overhead strike and makes his arm into his ax, glaring at Dayton.
Eda: Ow! Oh, I hate it when that happens.
This makes Lu scream even more, gaining Dayton's attention who was clashing with Wrath.
Dayton: Luz what's going on?
Luz: Eda head is still talking! Are you okay?
Dayton: Yeah that happens with old age.
Eda: Hey! If I could control my body right now. I'd smack you right now!
Luz: Does it?
Wrath finally had enough and kicked Dayton out of the way, making him slide across the room.
Warden Wrath: Finally, have you cornered, Eda the Owl Lady and Dayton Alighieri.
Dayton's eyes widened, surprised that the Warden knew him.
Dayton: How…how do you know me?
Warden Wrath: I've been watching you. Kill off all the aggressive demons that roam around the Boiling Isles.
[Warden Wrath walks closer to Eda, Dayton and Luz. King follows him, his arms up and reaching for his crown. Dayton gets in front of them ready to defend them.
Warden Wrath: And you Eda, my guards could never get you, but I knew if I took your pet's toy, you'd come running.
He crumples the King's crown in his hand.
King: No! My power!
Eda: What do you want with me? I've never actually broken any of your stupid laws... in front of you.
Warden Wrath: I want you…
He then pulls out a bouquet of flowers.
Warden Wrath: To go out with me.
Eda: Wha...?
Luz: What?
Dayton looks Wrath up and down before getting a disgusted look.
Dayton: Ew gross…
The men were cheering for the Warden. Giving him courage and DETERMINATION.
Guard #2: Go, boss!
Warden Wrath: You've always eluded our capture. You've always been the one who got away. I found that alluring.
Luz: I hate everything you're saying right now.
Dayton: I feel like puking…
Warden Wrath: You two stay out of this!
Warden Wrath tosses the bouquet over his shoulder, turning his now free hand into tentacles to grab Luz. Dayton dodges his tentacle as he uses Rebellion to fight them off.
Warden Wrath: So how about it, Owl Lady? The most powerful witch of the Boiling Isles and the feared Warden Wrath. We'd be the strongest power couple ever. I mean, it's‐‐ it's not like you can say no right now.
Eda looks up at Luz, who's struggling to free herself from the warden's grasp. She looks over to her nephew who was starting to get outnumbered by his tentacles.
Dayton: Oh this feels so wrong!
She looks to King and her body, who gets picked up by one of the guards and also struggles for freedom.
Eda: All right, Warden. You win. I'd just like to say something first. Come closer. No. Just come a little bit closer. Just... Yeah, that's good.
She blows a raspberry in his face, making him yell and drop Luz, who also yells. The tentacles that were fighting off Dayton quickly retreat as he catches Luz bridal style.
Dayton: Thanks for dropping in.
He laughs as Luz blushes in his hold.
The Warden wipes Eda's spit off his mask as Eda laughs at him.
Warden Wrath: Impudent wench! Don't you know how many germs are in your mouth? Blegh!
Eda: Get over it. You had your guards stalk me, and then you cut off my head. I am not going out with you.
Warden Wrath: If you don't accept, then I have no choice but to des‐‐ Oh!
Dayton comes in striked at his chest, making him stumble back. Luz comes in and hits him on top of his head with Eda's staff.
Eda: Nice!
The two guards step next to Eda's head. She glares at them as her body walks up behind them and drags their hoods over their eyes.
Luz: Okay, we're going now.
Luz and Dayton run forward, Luz grabbing Eda's head. Eda's body frees King from the guard's grasp, and Luz grabs her by the waist and they all mount the staff.
Luz: Expecto... flying? Magicus... escapicus!
Warden Wrath grunts getting back on his feet.
Dayton: Owlbirt, Fly!
The staff takes off. Warden Wrath clamors to his feet.]
Warden Wrath: Owl Lady, I won't let you get away again!
His arms transform into bundles of tentacles, which he uses to chase after the staff. They were flying past prison cells, Warden Wrath in hot pursuit.
Dayton: I got this!
He pulls out his guns, Pain and Gain, and shoots the lever making them free the prisoners. All of them look excited; they burst through an outer door high in the center of the Conformatorium with a yell from Luz, then plummet. Warden Wrath exits right behind them, front flipping off the pillar.
The staff and Warden Wrath fall toward the ground. Warden Wrath extends one of his tentacles, hitting the very back of the staff and launching Eda, Dayton, Luz, and King off of it. They roll when they hit the ground, and Warden Wrath steps in front of them, his hand shifting into a blade again.
King: Ow, my bones!
Eda: Luz...
She reattaches her head, then reaches into her hair and pulls out the key to the portal door.
Eda: Go back to the human world.
Luz: What about you guys?
Dayton: Were gonna kick some general butt!
King: If you think this guy is bad, you shoulda seen her last boyfriend!
Eda: Not my boyfriend.
She grabs King, Dayton parries Wrath's blade-hands and goes on the attack
Eda: Go! Go!
Luz: But‐‐ But I‐‐
Eda slaps the bottom of the staff, sending it into the air. Warden Wrath takes off his mask to reveal a face that's mostly mouth, which opens to breathe fire.
Dayton: Wow! You are the ugliest person I've ever seen. So you even brush!
The Warden roars at him, as he charges at full speed towards him. Dayton ducks down as Eda expertly draws two spell circles, one that catches the fire and one that launches it right back. Wrath slams into the wall of the Conformatorium.
Wrath stands up, brandishing his blade-hands and charges at his two opponents. Dayton smiles as he also charges forward.
The three prisoners peek out of the hole that he left in the wall. Luz flies down to talk to them.
Luz: Why are you guys just standing there? This is your chance to escape!
Eye-Eating Prisoner: The warden'll catch us. He always does.
Katya: We belong here.
Tiny Nose: Self‐doubt is a pwison you can never escape fwom.
The other Prisoners mutter in agreement.
Luz then remembered what Eda and Dayton had said to her.
Luz: So, you have a different way of doing things, a different way of seeing things. That might make you weird, but it also makes you awesome. Don't you see?
Katya: Why are you helping us?
Luz: Because us weirdos have to stick together.
She pulls her hood on and mounts the staff.
Luz: We forge our own paths and nobody should be punished for who they are.
The three prisoners all cheer. Luz turns the staff around.
Luz: Now, let's get 'em!
Eda being thrown against the ground, and King being thrown into her arms a second later. The Warden is fighting with Dayton who ducks under I swipe and shoots Pain and Gain at him with no effect.
Warden: I've been watching you Dayton. Seeing your every move. Not only me, but others.
Dayton: Whatever dude. I'll tackle any enemy that tries to go against me. And since you know everything about me you'll know that…
His hand flows with a purple energy as his eyes swirl with a purple light.
Dayton: I see everything!
He fires a purple flameball at the Warden as he does through the attacks. The Warden charges at Dayton his teeth baring. Dayton takes out Pain and Gain, and started blasting. Wrath blocked the bullets with his axe arms as he swung at Dayton.
Dayton ducked over the attack and backed up almost getting hit overhead. He charged his guns with purple energy as he fired a firey blast at Wrath. This actually knocked him back a little, giving him bruises around his body.
Warden Wrath: Good work Dayton. You've finally gotten to damage me.
He then uses his tentacles to grapple around Dayton's waist and throw him around the room. Dayton was then thrown towards Eda who uses her magic to cushion his landing.
Warden Wrath: But it's not good enough.
Dayton tried to get up, but immidetly was brought down due to his inguries.
Dayton: I won't give up… you tentacles abomination!
The Warden laughs at Dayton. Pointing an Ax hand at him.
Warden Wrath: You don't know the storm that is coming Alighieri.
Luz: Go, go, go, go!
Luz and the prisoners come barreling towards the Warden.
Eda: Luz?
Dayton: Oh yeah! Go Luz!
Eye-Eating Prisoner: I eat my own eyes!
The Eye Eater tackles the Warden as Little Nose trips him up with her small size.
Tiny Nose: I think the world is a twiangle!
Katya: And I practice the ancient art of fanfiction!
Tiny Nose joins Katya in holding Warden Wrath down while the Eye-Eating Prisoner grabs his arms and ties them together. He then flips Wrath onto his stomach, so he can see Luz descending on Eda's staff.
Warden Wrath: You! Who do you think you are?
Luz: Do not underestimate me, Warden Wrath, for I am Luz, the human, warrior of peace… Now eat this, sucka!
Luz pulls her firecracker out of her messenger bag, tossing it into the air before hitting it with Eda's staff. The firecracker lands in Wrath's flaming mouth and goes off, sending fireworks into the air. He runs away, humiliated, fireworks still going off in his mouth, while the prisoners cheer.
Tiny Nose: [jumping up and down] We are victorious!
Eda, with King on her shoulder, walks closer to Luz, putting a hand on the human's shoulder.
King: That was actually one of her better breakups.
Eda: Not a breakup. Anyway, let's bounce before any more monsters fall in love with me.
Luz: Wait, where Dayton?
They all see that Dayton was just staring blankly into space. He was completely motionless like something was going on through his head.
Luz waves a hand in front of him, making him snap off it.
Luz: Hey you ok?
Dayton: Huh? Yeah I'm fine! I was just thinking of something. Let's just go…
Luz frowns as the four fly off on the staff, fireworks still going off behind them. Dayton looked down to the ground as he smiles a little.
Dayton: (She ask almost like her…)
In the living room of the Owl House, where Eda leans her staff against the couch.
Eda: Well, a deal's a deal. Let's get you home.
She snaps her finger, the key flies out of Luz's bag and into Eda's hand. She presses the eye, and the portal door unfolds itself in front of the fireplace. Luz walks up to it, then hugs herself and turns back to look at Eda, Dayton and King. King looks at the ground, visibly sad.
Luz let's go as reaches into her bag bring out her Azuru doll.
Luz: Before I go I know it's not the same, but...
She removes Azura's crown and gives it to King.
Luz: A king shouldn't be without a crown.
King accepts and puts it on top of his head.
King: This shall suffice. You there, plant! You are now under my command!
She then walks up to Dayton, who smiles up to her.
Dayton: Welp this adventure was awesome.
Luz: Yeah it really was. I have to admit you are a pretty cool person.
Dayton: I know. Your pretty cool too.
He put his fist up for a fist bump, but she grabs it and brings him in for a hug. He accepts this hugging tight. Eda then separated them
Eda: Ok emotional stuff done.
She gives Luz her Azuru book back.
Eda: Oh, and don't forget this.
Luz takes it, and the pamphlet for Reality Check Summer Camp that's on top of it, and walks toward the portal. She stares at the pamphlet before putting it under the Azura book. She pauses in front of the door, looking at it. She looks back down at her book, then up, at a mirror above the fireplace.
She holds up the book, on the cover of which is Azura in the foreground, with an older witch looking at a dog/cat creature in the background. The boy was standing beside her as with a fist on his heart. She lowers the book to reveal the mirror showing a very similar image, King, Dayton and Eda in the same positions as the creature and the older witch, and herself in the foreground between them. She brightens and turns around.
Luz: Okay. I know you got your head cut off, and we started some kind of prison riot, but this was the most fun I've ever had.
Dayton: Ok… go onnnn.
Luz: I don't fit in at home. You don't fit in here. If I stay, we could not fit in together.
She looks at the pamphlet for Reality Check one last time, then crumples it.
Luz I'm not going back to summer camp.
Eda: What's summer camp? What are we talking about here?
Dayton: I think you camp in the summer.
Luz: I want to stay and become a witch. Like you. And Azura.
Eda: What? All right, that's crazy. Humans can't become witches.
Dayton gains her attention as he points to himself and create a purple fireball.
Eda: Your half-human Dayton.
Dayton: But I'm still human!
Luz: Maybe that's because they haven't tried. If you teach me to become a witch, I'll do anything you want.
King pulled on Eda's dress.
King: Let her stay! She can make us snacks.
Dayton: It'll be fun to have her around.
Eda: Well, I could use a hand keeping this goofball out of the cupboards. All right. I'll teach you how to be a witch. But you have to work for me before you learn any spells. Deal?
Eda holds out her hand. Luz looks at it before grinning and crushing the three in a hug.
Eda: Gah! What's going on?
King: Too tight! Too tight!
Dayton: Ahh! I love these!
Luz opening the creaking door to a storage room. She unrolls a sleeping bag and, now wearing pajamas, throws herself on it, before turning over and taking a picture of her and her mom out of her messenger bag. She then hear a knock on the door.
Luz: Come in!
In comes Dayton with a few cookies.
Dayton: I see you got yourself settled in human.
Luz: Yeah I did, demon.
They both laugh as Dayton gave her the cookies and digged in.
Luz: Whoa these are pretty good.
Dayton: Yeah my mom taught me. She also taught me an easy way to snap someone's neck.
Luz freezes as she laughs making Dayton laugh with her. He gets up before heading out.
Dayton: Hey, Luz?
Luz: Hm?
Dayton gives her signature smile and thumbs up.
Dayton: Were gonna do great tomorrow.
Luz smiles before giving him a thumbs up.
Dayton leaves as Luz giggles and blushes a little.
Back at Dayton's house he enters seeing Lady watching T.V.
Lady: How was work today, sweetie.
Dayton: Pretty good. Killed some demons, M
made a new friend, hanged out with Aunt Eda, and made a riot in the prison.
Lady: Hm, so same old day.
Dayton: Yup.
He went to his room and jumped into bed. He looks at the picture of him and his friends with the cut out peice. He frowned a little as he looked up at the ceiling.
Dayton: Time for my legacy to start.
