Owl House: Devil's Cry

Chapter 2

Witches Before Wizards

Back at the Owl House, Luz was sleeping as she dreamed about the past events of yesterday. She then jumped up awake seeing that she was still in the Boiling Ilies. King was still asleep at the foot of her sleeping bag.

Luz: It wasn't a dream!

She looked outside her window screaming out to the world.

Luz: Good morning, terrifying fantasy world!

A sea monster waved to her.

Sea Monster: Good Morning!

It then dived back into the water as Luz cringe in disgust. She then walked over to the sleeping King and picked him up. He woke up as she brought him up to eye level.

Luz: Good morning, you little cutie pie.

She then started kissing him around his skull face like he was a pet. Skull retorted trying to squirm away from the evil affection he was getting.

King: I am not your cutie pie!

Luz: Yes you are.

Luz hugged him before dropping him back on the sleeping bag. He flops onto his belly defeated.

King: I know.

Luz got dressed as she walked towards the bathroom. She opened the door to see two owls flying out, making her squeak. She slowly went back into the bathroom, not noticing the door owl behind her.

Hooty: Hi, Luz!

She screamed and in defense chopped him in his head.

Hooty: I'm just wishing you a good morning. Jeez! Hoot! Ow!

She watches as he leaves through the window and back to his post he complains.

Luz: Sorry, Hooty!

She then notices her book of Azura and grabs it.

Luz: This is it girl. Your first day at the boiling Ilies as a witch apprentice!

She then looks through a closet as she had her eyes closed with her fingers crossed.

Luz: Please have witchy clothes. Please have witchy clothes.

She opens seeing a ton of related items like robes, potions, cauldrons, brooms, and staffs. She screamed in excitement as she danced around.

She put on one of the robes, grabbing a witches hat to fit the look. Also putting on a name tag saying "Witch Appreciate Luz". She stood ecstatic at the bottom of the stairs as Eda came out of the bathroom still in her pajamas.

She looked to be still a little sleep fatigue just coming from some sleep. She then looked down the stairs at Luz, noticing her outfit.

Luz: Good Morning, Eda the Owl Lady. I am ready for my first day of Witch Apprenticeship!

She pumped a fist feeling ready as ever. Eda just dug a spider out of her with an uncaring look.

Eda: Who are you again?

Luz looked shocked as her named tag ripped from her robe.

Eda walks down the stairs tired and into the kitchen as Luz follows down with her.

Luz: Remember me, Luz?

Eda summons her mug which hits Luz in the head on the way to her. Eda kept on walking and she opened the fridge as Luz adjusted her hat back to place.

Luz: We freed the oppressed and defeated the evil warden together. Yesterday.

Eda: Kid lay off the details. I haven't even had my cup of apple blood yet.

Luz: .. You mean apple juice.

Eda: No.

She walked away from her and sat at the counter. Luz was about to ask some questions when there was a knock on the door.

Luz: Huh?

Outside Dayton was having a squabble with Hooty as he wasn't opening the door for him.

Dayton: Hooty! You know who I am! Just open the door!

Hooty: What if you're not the real Dayton? Hmmmmmmmmmmmm.

Dayton took out Pain and Gain and aimed them at his beak.

Dayton: I will blow you down, Hooty!

The door then quickly opens as Luz answers the door. Due to Daytona's guns being pointed at her she yelped in fear.

Luz: Please don't shoot! I haven't even learned a spell yet!

Dayton realized who he was pointing at and put his guns back in its holsters.

Dayton: Sorry, Luz. Hooty was being… himself again.

Hooty: Heeeyyy, what's that supposed to mean?

Dayton steps inside and shuts the door on the Owl. Hooty on the outside looks dumbfounded before spotting a bug and forgetting anything happened.

Eda drinks some of her apple blood as Dayton comes into the kitchen and rummages through her fridge.

Eda: You know you could get food at home, right?

Dayton: Yup.

He didn't answer any further as he brought out a jug of orange juice, grabbed a cup and poured some for himself.

Luz: Let me guess. Is that orange blood?

Dayton: No, just plain orange juice. I thought they had some of this in the human realm.

He drinks from his cup as Luz blushes in embarrassment. Dayton then notices what Luz is wearing.

Dayton: So question, why are you wearing a bathrobe and the dirtiest traffic cones known to man?

Luz: Huh?

She takes off her hat and blows off the dust seeing that it's in fact a traffic cone. King laughs in amusement as Dayton holds in one.

Dayton: So what's with the get up?

Luz: Oh I was getting myself prepared for my day of Witch Apprenticeship and I was hoping Eda was gonna teach me. OHHHHH, do I get my own magic staff!

Eda: Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, slow down there kid. Being a witch doesn't happen overnight. But a magic staff, huh? Do you really want one?

Luz: More than anything.

Eda then wiped the apple blood off her lips and attracted her arm.

Eda: Magic staff come to me!

They then heard multiple crashes coming through the house. Dayton takes another sip of his orange juice as an even more crashing sound comes through.

Finally the staff busted around the corner and flew into Eda. Dayton takes another sip of his orange juice as Eda picks up her staff.

Dayton: This is why I always summon my sword.

He summons in rebellion in a purple smoke as he takes another sip of his orange juice.

Eda: It's early. Now, witches are awarded their staff from school. With me as your teacher, you'll be taking a different approach.

She drops a bag filled with potions and flasks of many kinds.

Eda: You'll have to work for it.

She leads Luz through the living room, now in normal clothes, as Dayton follows behind them still drinking from his orange juice.

Eda: I run some business. On weekends I offer rare human treasures from your side of the realm.

She grabbed a toy sword from a shelf and turned it on.

Toy Sword: I shall smite my enemies ages 6 to 11.

She tosses it away as Dayton takes another sip from his orange juice.

Dayton: Most of these things aren't really rare from that realm.

Eda: But they're rare here and give me a quick buck. The rich always want rare items. But most days I sell only the finest potions and elixirs.

Luz pulls a bottle out of the bag and reads the label.

Luz: Snake Oil?

Eda: No one wants an unoiled snake! Now follow me.

She leads them both to a balcony looking over a small town.

Eda: Today you'll deliver packages and sell potions in that small town over there, Bonesborough.

And you guess it the town call Bonesborough was literally made out of bones and skulls. Maybe even a few teeth too.

Eda: You'll have to be careful. I have rivals who would want to take my business down and you along with it. If you want a dangerous magical quest? Sister, you got one.

Luz saluted as the bag leaned at the edge of the balcony.

Luz: I won't let you down Ms. Eda.

The bag then slips out their hand and they all look over the ledge as it smashed onto the ground. Dayton takes one last sip of his orange juice.

Dayton: Welp… I've seen worse.

Eda then pushed her to the door, giving her a new bag of potions and elixirs as Dayton walked beside them.

Eda: Remember never befriend a man in sandals and measure twice cut once.

Luz looked confused as she also pushed Dayton outside with her.

Eda: Dayton. Make sure she doesn't die. Good luck!

She closed the door on them before Dayton could say anything. She then walks over to King who was peacefully sleeping on chest.

Eda: I hate to interrupt your power nap, but you have to go with them.

King: What? But I just found the perfect spot. Why do I have to go? Dayton is literally half demon, he can protect both of themselves!

Eda: You and I know she's gonna get lost or eaten, probably both. And Dayton gets so wild in a fight that he might cause more harm than done.

Dillon: Wow, don't have that much trust in me, huh?

They look to see that Dayton and Luz were looking at them through the window. Using her magic she closed the curtains on them.

Eda: And because you work for me too, unless you want to start paying rent.

Stomping his feet in anger, he jumped off the chest and went outside with Dayton and Luz.

Eda: Be back by nightfall or risk mortal peril.

She then closed the door on them.

Hooty: Have a nice trip.

King groans as he leads them away from the house.

King: Let's get this over with.

Now in Bonesborough, the three looked around the town. Luz was amazed by the sheer difference of all the people living here.

King: Hey it's rude to stare.

Luz: I've only seen places like this in my dreams and it's incredible! And I'm the only human here?

Dayton: Beside me and my parents. Yeah I think so.

Luz: Wow! There must be a reason for that, right? Why am I here? What if I, Luz Noceda, average teen, actually had… predetermined path of greatness?

Dayton: Yeah… no. No such thing.

Luz gives him a confused stare as he and King keep on walking through the town. She caught up to them.

Luz: What are you talking about 'no such thing'?

Dayton: Like I said no such thing. No one has a predetermined path of greatness, just a one way street to life.

Luz: But, what about Azura?

Dayton: Luz, Azura is a work of fiction. She has a set path for her to go on because the writers wrote her like that. End of story.

Luz: But, I could be earning the respect of everyone with my magical prowess.

King: Ha! Good luck with that. The Boiling Ilies is nothing, but a cesspool of despair.

Luz: More like a cesspool of delight!

She looks around the market to see a centaur buying a pumpkin. She walked up to him and nudged him.

Luz: What has four hooves and want to buy a potion? This guy.

Center: My eyes are down here.

The centaur sighs as he reveals that his eyes are on his chest making Luz jump.

They were then delivering a package to someone's house. Luz rang the doorbell, but then it started to try to eat her. Luz screamed in fright as it got to her shoulder, but King just rolled his eyes and walked away. Dayton on the other hand stuck Rebellion inside the mouth and pried it open for Luz arm to get unstuck.

They were all sitting on a sidewalk, King was eating a snack from the food cart they were by while Dayton was laying back down on the ground.

King: I know I've had enough delight for the day.

Luz: I thought being the only human in a magical world would make me special. But apparently, it only makes people want to scream at me or…

She lifts her arm up and a little fairy is trying to eat her elbow.

Luz: Eat me.

Dayton then flicked the fairy off as he sat up.

Dayton: Well that's what you gotta know about his world. That everything is out to kill you one way or another. Pretty wild, right?

Luz then opened her book towards when Azura gets a magical quest from a wizard.

Luz: At this point, Azura has already been sent on an enchanted quest. Where's my quest giving wizards?

Dayton: Well that book is a work of fiction so I don't think anyone would give a quest anywhere to anyone.

King: And I don't think anyone here is that we'll dress.

They all got back up and walked through an alleyway.

Luz: Let's just deliver this last package and go home. Maybe this world isn't wa–

She then stopped all moping as they see a huge castle, radiating with light.

Luz: Pretty…

Dayton:... I don't like this.

They then walked to the giant front door and rang the doorbell. The door then slowly opens worrying both King and Dayton.

King: Big houses always belong to big whack jobs. Let's kick the package inside and get outta here.

Dayton: Yeah, he's right. This place gives me bad vibes to the core.

Instead of listening to them Luz waltzed in. Dayton groaned as he walked in after with King by his side. The door closed behind them, making King jump.

Dayton: I already hate this place… more than I thought.

They all entered a dark room which didn't have a single light shine through.

Luz: I‐I'm delivering a package from Miss Eda, the Owl Lady. Huh?

Lights start to slowly illuminate the room revealing it to be a giant library. They illuminate a grand staircase, above which is a painting of a wizard. Said wizard enters from a door in the same pose he has in the painting. This was Adegast.

Luz gasped as she held her hands over her mouth while on the other hand Dayton narrowed his eyes.

Luz: Today just got good!

Dayton: Today just got so much worse…

Luz danced around excited as the Wizard stood at the top of the staircase.

Luz: Magical Wizard!

King: Weird old man in jim-jams.

Adegust descendant from the stairs to young teens and demons

Adegast: I was in my oscillatorium, reading the stars. And who might you be, with eyes full of curiosity?

Dayton: Just some people trying to deliver stuff. So can you take your package so we can get out of here.

Adegust: Well that's not what I see. I see something special in you two. Young lady, young sir, dareth I say, I sense something unique about you. Please, won't you join me for tea?

He conjured up three chairs and a tea set with snacks appeared. He took a seat on a rich white one.

Luz: Okay.

She went to walk over to the seat, but was stopped by King having a hold of her leg.

King: Let's scream! Wizards are just old people with glitters in their pockets.

Quite literally, Adegust had glitter in his pocket sprinkling it on the floor.

Dayton: Also I'm sensing something off of him that I just can't wrap my head around.

King: I don't trust him.

Luz: But the stars on his robe are sparkling. And look, there's a baby fox in his beard.

There is in fact a cute baby fox in his beard which giggles to them.

Luz: Plus I see scones on the table.

This instantly got King's attention.

King: Where?!

He jumped off of Luz's shoulder and onto the table where he started to gobble on the scones. Luz takes a seat at one of the seats at the table.

Luz: Come on Dayton. Let's just hear what he has to say.

Dayton groaned as he took a seat next to Luz.

Dayton: I'm only doing this because I want to hear the bull that's gonna come out of his mouth.

Luz handed him a cup of tea in which he begrudgingly took. Luz giggles as she looks over to a stand where potions stood on top of.

Luz: Do you sell potions, Sir Wizard.

Adegust: Please, call me Adegust and yes i run a small business.

King holds up an empty plate in which he ate all the scones.

King: You should run a small business of more scones into my mouth. Yes!

Adegast: I'm surprised to see you here. Especially you Dayton Alighieri, son of Dante. You're usually out there demon hunting.

Dayton widened his eyes as he lifted down his tea cup.

Dayton: How'd you know me or my dad?

Adegust: Well everyone knows the legend tale of Dante. The son of Sparta! Able to best any demon in his path with a flick of his sword.

Luz: Whoa! Your dad is so cool, Dayton. He must be pretty strong.

The young demon hunter smiled as he slouched in the chair.

Dayton: Yeah, he is! The best demon hunter that ever was.

Adegust: Sorry to change the subject, but It was my understanding that Eda delivered the packages herself.

Luz: Well, I'm kinda, sorta, her apprentice.

Adegast: Oh! And how are you finding the experience so far?

Luz held a smile for a second before sighing.

Luz: Can I be honest, Mr. Adegast? When I decided to stay in this magical world, I thought I was meant for something special. But Eda thinks I'm meant for chores and I'm afraid I came to the wrong place.

Dayton looked at Luz as she looked down at her tea. He saw something in her that felt familiar to him. Adegust stood up from his chair as he walked over to Luz.

Adegast: Well, I have a quest–

Luz: A quest!

She jumped up from her chair, making the cup shatter on the floor. Adegust chuckles to himself as he puts a hand on his beard.

Adegast: You didn't let me finish. I have a question.

Luz: Oh.

Adegast: Would you like to go on a quest?

Luz: Yes!

He goes into his beard and pulls out a scroll.

Adegast: I might have just the thing.

He unrolls the scroll and reveals a map of a sacred staff.

Adegust: The prophecy speaks of a young human girl and her right hand friend who will claim the Celestial Staff and free this world from an ancient evil. Perhaps thou hath cometh here for a reason.

Luz: Perhap I hath.

Dayton then puts a hand in front of Luz as he pushes the wizard away.

Dayton: I'm gonna stop you right there old man. There is no such thing as a Celestial Staff prophecy because there is no prophecy. This is a load of bull and I'm calling you out on it.

Luz then passed by Dayton and took the map.

Luz: Maybe this is made to happen. This could be an actual prophecy for me to go on.

Dayton: Are you listening to yourself right now?

Adegast: Should you believe yourself worthy to attempt this quest…

Luz: So worthy.

They both then started walking through a hall as Dayton stood there disfigured and confused.

Dayton: Is one listening to me right now?

He catched up to them both as they all passed by a multitude of artifacts and figures. Luz was looking at the map.

Adegast: ...you need to know the road is dark and perilous.

Luz: Love peril. Big fan of peril.

Adegust: Have great companions by your side and is heavily loyal.

Luz: Dayton right here has my back at all times.

Adegast: And only the Chosen One can pull the staff from its post.

Luz: Chosen one.

This makes Dayton snap, making him push Luz out the door while King comes behind them dragging the potions with him.

Dayton: Time to go! Thanks for inviting us, hated your story, never coming back!

King: Neat story, awesome. Anyway, your food is gone and we are, too.

Luz: Yes, we have to go. And pack for this enchanted quest! I'm in.

Adegast: Wonderful.

Dayton: Good Bye!

Dayton then slams the door on him as Adegust smirks to himself.

In Luz's room, she was packing up for her quest as Dayton sat around in the room. King was getting comfortable on Luz's rolled up sleeping bag.

Luz: So, King, what kind of Chosen One should I be?

King: Huh? What?

Luz: Should I be full of optimism and goodness, like the Good Witch Azura? Or should I be like a bad girl Chosen One with black nail polish and a mysteriously withdrawn attitude?

She uses the book as a little puppet to express being a bad girl.

Luz: "I act like I don't care, but I secretly do."

Eda then entered the room holding a severed monster arm by the bone.

Eda: Hey! You kids talking about bad girls? Wait what's going on?

King: Eda, tell Luz how dumb wizards are.

Dayton: And how going on this stupid quest is a horrible idea.

King: Eda, tell Luz how dumb wizards are.

Eda: Ugh! Wizards are the worst. Never trust a man in casual drapery. Why? What's this about a quest?

King then started chuckling as he tried explaining it to Eda.

King: Your wizard client told Luz... she was a– was a Chosen One!

Eda: Wait, wait, Luz?

She started snickering before full blown laughing as she dropped to the floor. The two of them laughed their heads off as Luz blushed in embarrassment trying to hide it behind her Azura book.

King: He even gave her a map.

Eda then slowly stopped laughing as she got off the floor.

Eda: Let me see this map.

She walked over to Luz who quickly got rid of her blush and handed the map to Eda. She unraveled it and looked through it.

Eda: You didn't think this was real, did you?

Luz: What?

Eda: This map is bunk. There's no lake with a Celestial Staff on the Boiling Isles. I would have stolen it ages ago.

Dayton: I told you that map was a bunch of bull, but you didn't want to listen to me.

Luz looked down in disappointment, making Eda feel bad a little.

Eda: Ah, don't worry. Couple more months here and you won't look like such a mark.

She rubbed her head, not really making her feel any better. Luz pushed it away as she looked down at the fake map.

Luz: Can I have time alone?

Eda shrugs as she walks towards the door. King followed by jumping off the sleeping bag. The door closed, leaving Luz on her own. She sat on the floor right next to the window. Except not entirely alone as the boy leaning on the wall was still there.

Dayton: Really just gonna stand there?

Luz didn't look at him as she kept her eyes on the map. Dayton sighs as she walks over and sits next to her. They were silent for a moment before Luz decided to break it.

Luz: Dayton, why do you hate prophecies? Is it like a childhood trauma or you never got one before.

He chuckles as he looks at her before sighing as he lays his head on the wall.

Dayton: Nah nothing like that. If you really want to know, Luz. Think of a prophecy as a straight line. The line goes on and on and on till no end. The chosen one has to stick to that line to get to its direct path.

Luz: Ok.

Dayton: That's it. You're destined to stay on that line without any chance of getting out. Anyone can go on that epic adventure, but only that one person has to do it? I'd rather defeat some demon king on my own accord. Make my own legacy instead of having something or someone that is mine.

Luz: So was I really worthy?

Luz was all ears on Dayton as he went on into his speech. Hearing his words make her look down at the paper. The light from the window shined onto it revealing some words on it.

'The Chosen One'

She looks at the paper as the wind from the window turns the pages to a picture of Azura. She smiles before turning to Dayton.

Luz: I'll never know if I don't try!

Dayton sighs as he knows he wouldn't get through to her.

Dayton: Well if you want to go on your epic adventure you do you.

Luz got to his level as he was slouching on the wall.

Luz: But the prophecy also said I had a right hand friend.

He gave her a confused look before realizing what she had said.

Dayton: No! No! No way in heck am I going on that dumb straight line adventure!

Luz: Come on, it could be so much fun!

Dayton: My words are finalized.

She pouted at him before sighing. She then gave him a determined look as he gave one back.

Luz: Well you gave me no choice.

Dayton: Do your worst.

She then walked up to him with her head down. When she was in front of him she lifted her head up showing the cutest puppy dog eyes of all times. He shook as she stared up at him.

Dayton: No! Not those… things!

Luz: Please, Dayton…

He tried to stay his ground, but the cuteness was getting to him. He backed up into the wall, taking out Pain.

Dayton: Stay back!

Luz: It'll be a quick adventure. I promise!

His heart started pumping faster as his blood started striking at high levels. He then sighed as he put Pain back in its holder.

Dayton: Fine, I'll go, but expect me to complain through the whole trip.

In the living room, King was getting ready for a nap as he fluffed up the pillow.

King: Finally! All that meant‐spirited laughter made me sleepy.

Eda: Crony, wake up. You said that wizard was one of my clients?

King: Yes. Now go away.

Eda: I don't know him that well. And I don't trust this itch he's scratching in the human.

King: Dayton got her cover so less talky, more nappy.

Eda sighs as she looks up towards Luz's room. She then decided to go check inside to see if she was ok.

Eda: Hey, Luz?

When she entered the room all she saw was a whole lotta nothing. Wind was blowing through hinting that Luz and Dayton escaped through there.

Eda: Aw nuts!

She looked out the window to see if they were still there, but they must have left a long time ago. She then called out to Hooty to see if he knew where they went.

Eda: Hooty, where'd they go?

Hooty then stretches himself up to her trying for her to guess a riddle.

Hooty: Hoot, hoot. If you want the answer that you seek, solve my riddle within a week‐‐

Eda punches the wall hard enough to shake the whole house and leave cracks in the wall.

Hooty: Ow! Okay, okay. They went into the forest towards Bonesborough. Sheesh!

Eda: Ugh!

The two were then at the Bonesborough city limits. They were looking down upon the forest where their quest awaits Dayton looked bored as all heck while Luz looked confident and optimistic. She breathed in the air around with her chest pumped out.

Luz: My first mythical quest.

She slides down the hill as the young demon hunter groans to himself and jumps in after her.

Dayton: I'm already hating this.

They then walked onto a dirt path as fog rolled in around them.

Luz: Okay. Got my scroll, got my youthful optimism, got my trusty weapon

She then unsefts the toy sword off her back and turns it on.

Luz: By the power of Skullgar, I am out of batteries.

It then died on her, the lights on the sword dying along with it.

Dayton: I wish that was me right now.

Dayton nudged him as they both continued on that path, Luz cutting through vines with the sword.

Luz: I wonder if I made the right choice by coming here.

Dayton: I wonder why that too. So quest over.

Luz rolls her eyes as she continues forward before her eyes fixate on something. The fog cleared away revealing a little village with tiny cats roaming around. The two walked through the village, Luz smiling wildly while Dayton just had an even more bored look.

Approaching a fountain someone emerged from the water. A teen with dark dark hair, an eyepatch and sword strapped to his back.

?: I see, you're the chosen one.

He jumps out the fountain water dripping from his body.

Nevarth: The Celestial Staff should've picked me, Nevareth Bladestrife, Teen Prince of Angstmore.

He combed his hair back with his hand as Dayton rolled his eyes at just looking at the guy.

Dayton: Yeah and see how they got the name.

Luz: Yes I did make the right choice.

With Eda and King they were in the same alley the three of them were in before. King was sniffing through trying to get Luz or Dayton's scent.

King: This is where we met the scones. I mean, the wizard. Whoa!

Eda pushes aside a now up patched curtain.

King: It wasn't like this before.

The castle is now in complete ruin, with crumbling walls, no spire, and faded banners. One of the front doors is laying on the ground, and as they look, a chunk of wall falls from a pillar.

Eda: I don't like this.

They then enter the library which wasn't any better, maybe even worse with the torn up scrolls, smashed bookshelf, ripped painting, or book that looked like they'd been there for years.

Eda looked around the trashed library stepping on one of the scrolls. She picks up some copies seeing that they all have the same 'Chosen One' words on all of them.

Eda: I really don't like this.

Back with Luz, Dayton, and Neverth they were walking through the forest towards the Celestial Staff.

Luz: Nevareth, your vengeful backstory is so compelling. And I'm lovin' your animal sidekick.

The bat thing flew into Dayton's head and cuddled into his white hair. He lets out a sigh as the little guy squeals a little.

Dayton: Is it wrong that I actually like this thing?

Nevareth: After my village was consumed, my heart has known nothing but vengeance.

Luz: Nevareth…

Nevereth: Lady Luz, do you think love can bloom on the battlefield?

Luz gains a silly grin as she turns to Dayton who still has the bat thing on his head.

Luz: This quest is questing in all the right ways.

Dayton: I think I reach the limit of eye roll moments.

They party then made it to a bridge and when walking over a little cat… thing. Like I really don't know what to say about this thing. Jumped in front of them from under the bridge.

Nevareth: Ew.

Dayton: ….I'm gonna kill it.

He summons the Rebellion and is ready to kill it when Luz puts a hand in front of him stopping him.

Luz: Let's hear what he has to say, first.

?: Hum‐di‐diddle, to pass the bridge, you must first solve my riddle.

Luz: Hit me, little furry man.

?: Your quest shall stop if you fail this game. So tell me, my dear, what is my name?

Dayton looks down at his shirt and sees the nametag.

Dayton: It's Chris.

Chris: That's it. You may cross the bridge. And please take this, Chosen One. It shall help you on your journey.

He holds up a blue ring and Dayton takes it.

Luz: Nice job Dayton! Told you were the guy to bring on this epic quest!

Dayton rolls his eyes as he smiles before giving the ring to her.

Dayton: I don't need it so might as well give it to you. Chosen one.

Luz blushes as she puts it around her finger.

Luz: Wow. This is amazing. Thank you.

Nevareth: Do you need a cape?

Luz: Nah, I think I'm goo‐‐

Nevareth: You can use my shirt.

He rips his shirt off, showing off his chiseled muscles. Luz admired them as he rapped the now cape around her neck.

Dayton: That is the most random thing to do.

Luz: Yes. I need a cape.

Nevareth: Three cheers for the Chosen One.

Everyone began to cheer except for Dayton who had his hands in his pocket and sent a suspicious glare to everyone. The bat thing on his head looked down on him and without him noticing changed eye color for a second. It then cuddled back in his hair as Dayton just sighs to himself.

Back with Eda and King, they had arrived in the town that party had already been too. Now the village looked completely abandoned. With all the house looking very worn down to the point of almost collapsing.

Eda: Are you sure she came here?

King: Can't mistake her smell. Like lemons and young, naïve confidence. Also Dayton demonic presents with a hint of eye rolling. He eyerolled a lot actually.

Eda: Figures she dragged him here. He wouldn't dare go on a prophecy adventure not on his life without having to be convinced.

She came up to a kitten who was in the fountain that Luz and Dayton came across Nevareth in.

Eda: Hey! Wake up, you. What have you done with Luz? What's your endgame?

Cat: To find your pupil and still your wrath, look ahead and follow the path.

The cat cackled as it then turned to dust plumbing onto the ground.

King: That cat man melted?!

Eda: It's a trap. They want me to find Luz and Dayton.

King: Then what do we do?

In the woods, the party came out with an exit with a small fairy princess whom they had a feast with.

Luz: Thank you for inviting me to your feast, Princess. All your food was so tiny and cute.

The fairy twirled her arm, making magic bracelets appare out of thin air.

Princess: For you, Chosen One.

She handed them to Luz, who immediately put them on.

Luz: Thank you. You have all been so kind and thoughtful. I hope this quest never ends.

Chris: Your quest will soon come to an end, for the staff you seek is around the bend.

This fact dulls Luz's mood as her body slumps in disappointment.

Luz: Thanks for ruining the mood Chris.

Dayton then walks in front of her, trying to move on to the staff.

Dayton: Let's get this over with, get this "mythical" staff and go home.

He then felt a hand on his shoulder as he looked over to Nevareth who gave him a small smile.

Nevareth: Sir Dayton, even though our journey has been short, I'll never forget your kindness and your bravery. So I'll leave you with my companion, Laxon, with you in your time of need.

Laxon, who had been on his head the whole way of the journey squeaked in glee as Dayton once again rolled his eyes, but this time with a small smile.

Dayton: Even though I never wanted to come here and it still hasn't changed my mind over prophecy or chosen one aspect of things. I actually had some fun with you, Angstmore.

Nevareth gave him a laugh as Dayton joined in with Luz and walked through the tunnel towards the Celestial Staff. Everyone they met on their journey wished them both good luck.

As they walked through the den Luz nudged Dayton a little with a cheeky little smile.

Luz: So what was that little moment with Nevareth? I thought you hated the thought of prophecies?

Dayton: Still do and wouldn't change that worth the world. Just made a few friends along the way.

He pet Laxon who purred at his touch. They then arrive in a part of the forest where a lake calmly flows. The Celestial Staff stands on a platform in the middle of a lake, illuminated by a ray of light. As Luz approaches the edge of the lake, a glowing light comes from the water, followed a few seconds later by a stone walkway rumbling into place, connecting the edge of the lake and the central platform.

Dayton: Wow… it's actually real. Wasn't really expecting that.

Luz: I knew this world wasn't all gloom and doom like Eda and King said. There is wonder here. And I... I think I came here for a reason.

She skipped along the path way before coming into contact with the staff. She takes a deep breath as she extends arms towards the staff.

Luz: Moment of truth.

She held the staff with both of her hands, blue light flowed around her as waves crashed around. Dayton held a hand over his eyes trying to get a good look at what's going on.

Luz: Yes! I am the Chosen One! I knew it! I always suspected there was a reason nobody understood my wacky antics back at home. Now I have concrete proof!

She jumped around happily as Dayton gave a small smile. That smile turned to anguish when he sensed something in the air.

Dayton: That feeling again!

He looked around, seeing as the wall started to crumple around him. He looked towards Luz as she saw the staff whisk into dust in her hands.

Luz: No!

Everything started dying around them. The flowers that surrounded the staff withered in seconds. The water from the lake drained away in an instant.

Dayton: What in the heck is going on?!

Eda and King are seen flying in the air, trying to get to Luz and Dayton.

Eda: I know this guy. He's no wizard. He's what you'd call a puppeteer, a demon who specializes in scamming and manipulating people. He's trying to use Luz to get to me.

King: Yeah, and we're flying directly into his trap. Hurray.

Eda: Well, if you can think of a better plan, I'd love to hear it. Just gotta hope Dayton wears him out till I can get there. Hey, faster, you!

She slaps Owlbert making them go faster.

Fog swarms around Luz and Dayton as Luz has her toy sword drawn out while Dayton takes out his guns. They had their backs against each other as they circled the perimeter.

Dayton: Somethings coming, and it's big. Stay close alright.

Luz gulps as she nods. Her hands were shaking in fear as she held the toy sword in her hands. Out of the fog came the wizard in the same pose when they met.

Adegast: Luz, the human, Dayton the demon slayer.

Luz: Magical wizard?

Adegast: Your hubris has failed you, Witch Apprentice.

The wizard's eyes popped out of their sockets like a puppet as a shadow of the puppeteer appeared out of the fog. The real Adegust was a weird looking octopus-like demon. The thing cackled at them as the ground shook.

The two teens looked around as the people from their journey came out of the ground being puppeteered by Adegust with his tentacles.

Dayton: I knew this prophecy couldn't be true!

He then realized something as he touched Laxon on his head. He looked up to see that it also has the same eyes as the others and flicked it off. He brushed out his hair trying to get the bat thing stuff out of his hair.

Dayton: Damn it! That thing has been on my mind all day! I knew it! I knew something like this would've happened! I should've gone with my gut! I should always go with my gut!

Luz: Okay, Luz. Don't panic. This is classic Chosen One biz. You just have to rescue everybody and defeat the final boss.

Adegust put the wizard in front of Luz making her jump.

Adegast: I am everybody! You fool, don't you see? I'm no wizard. And you're no Chosen One. I've tricked you.

The gifts that she was given wrapped around her making her immobiled.

As she's distracted by the reveal, her cape floats up around her. It turns to chains, forcing her to her knees. The bracelets become hand cuffs and the ring becomes chains that lock her hands together, secured with a padlock.

Luz: No! Betrayed by my own cool accessories. Why are you doing this?

Adegast: Your mentor has been stealing customers from my potions business for years. She must be destroyed. And you!

He then points a finger at Dayton who had his guns pointed at the demon.

Adegust: It must've been a stroke of luck to have the demon slayer Dante's son arrive right at my doorstep. I couldn't let my chance slide. So not only do I get to kill Eda the Owl Lady! I get to get revenge for my master's death!

Dayton: I don't know if you heard, but I don't remember ever killing anyone's master. Well not that I know of.

Adegust: Oh it wasn't you, Dayton. It was your daring father who killed my master, Mundes.

This struck something in Dayton as he remembered someone that his dad told him about. Mundes was a powerful demon that owned one half of the demon realm before Dante came and defeated him.

Adegust: Now you know an eye for an eye. A life for revenge. You already lead everyone towards my trap.

Luz: No, because Eda wouldn't fall for your stupid trap.

Eda: Adegust!

Luz groans as Dayton facepalms.

Dayton: The one time you actually come.

Eda landed onto the ground and walked over to Adegust who turned to her.

Adegust: Eda, I have you now!

Two cat puppets erupt from the ground, one grabbing Eda and the other King.

Eda: Yeah that's right, now release Luz!

King: I didn't have to be a part of this!

Adegast: Oh, she can leave. If she wants to. But I sense she wants a real fantasy.

The Chris puppet breathes a cloud of fog at Luz. When she opens her eyes, she's free of her restraints, kneeling in a dark void. Adegast's puppets walk up to her from the dark.

Nevareth: Stay with us, Luz. Stay with Adegast. We need you here. You could be our Chosen One.

Princess: Yeah, you can eat our tiny foods forever.

Nevereth: Luz, why would you want to live in a world where people laugh at you?

Luz: It is beautiful here.

Dayton: Don't listen to them, Luz!

Adegust: Stay out of this!

Adegust sent a bunch of tentacles at Dayton. He shoots at them knocking a few away, but a few of them take a stab at him. He dodge two of them before summoning, Rebellion, and slicing one in half.

Dayton uses his Oracle magic to sense where they're coming and slices through some more tentacles.

Dayton: Luz!

He tries running to lose, but is stopped by puppets blocking his path.

Dayton: Luz, you don't need some stupid prophecy to know that your special! All you need to know is that you yourself is special!

Luz looked towards Dayton who was fighting off the puppets trying to claw his eyes out. The shadows cover him as Nevareth grabbed her shoulders.

Nevareth: Don't listen to him, Luz! All he says is nonsense. You could be special with us, be our chosen one!

She looked at Nevareth as the others started to surround. Through the journey she's been trying to find a way to make her special. Make her what she is. But she had already found who she was supposed to be.

Luz: But it's not real!

She pushes the puppets out of her way, lunging for the sword. She draws it at Adegust who turns his face towards her.

Luz: I am a witch apprentice and I'm gonna earn my witch's staff the hard and create my own legacy my own way.

She looks towards Dayton who smiles at her and chips the head off the puppets around him.

Luz: I believed you magic man, now feel my wrath!

She plunged her sword into the wizard's chest, making him change into dust. Adegust screams in pain giving Eda and King to free themselves from his grip. Dayton flipped past some more and shot them from behind making them disintegrate. They all landed next to each other to prepare for battle.

Dayton: Glad you came into the light.

Eda: You can save the 'I told you so' for later. Right now we have a fight to win.

Luz swung at the pixie fairy like a bat and she flew in the air and exploded into dust.

Dayton ducked, passed through some more puppets and slices through one. Luxion appeared in front of him and screeched. It tried charging at him, but in one fell swoop he chopped through it with ease.

Dayton: Honestly, never knew what it was in the first place. Gonna miss that thing tho.

Eda then drew a circle in the air, making fire spew out a burn through the puppets.

Luz parried a strike from Nevareth as he flew at her.

Luz: I thought we had a connection, Nevareth!

She parried another blow from him and sent his sword flying. She then plunges her sword in his chest making him scream in pain.

Nevareth: My flawless pecks!

Eda and Dayton jumped towards Luz. They smiled towards one another, Dayton giving out a thumbs up. They then heard Adegust screams, turning towards him.

Adegust: Back off, or the dog gets it!

He holds up King with his puppet, King taking offense in being called a dog.

King: I am not a–

His grip tightened around King making them drop their weapons sans Dayton who kept Rebellion drawned.

Luz: King, I'm sorry. I should have listened to you and Dayton to never trusted that wizard. You were right. He isn't mystical or magical. He's just a big, slimy jerk!

She kicks her sword at the demon head making him scream in pain. He let go of the King, who jumped into Luz's arms. He tried striking at them once more, but was parried by Dayton and he sent a full on strike onto his body.

He started screeching in pain once more as he turned into a miniature version of himself. Then after two whips fell out of him, dropping to the ground.

They walk over to the now small Adegust, Eda picking him up by the tentacles. Dayton grabbing the whips..

Eda: Well that's the last time I take an outside referral.

She then gulps him down, hearing his screams of terror come out.

Eda: Mmm. Oh, did you want some of that?

Luz: No. I'm just confused.

Eda: Thinking of calling it quits, huh?

Luz: This place is nothing like I imagined.

Dayton: Hey, the place may not be the gigantic fantasyland you imagined, but it does have its perks.

Eda: Hmm. Maybe not here. But come with me. I got something to show you.

Hey we're then flying in the sky with Luz wearing a blindfold. Eda then hovered over the land as Luz was holding onto her waist.

Eda: You can take it off now.

Luz takes off her blindfold, as she takes a look at the beautiful sight of the Boiling Ilies.

Luz: Whoa.

Eda: The bones of the Ilies. Up close it can be slimy.

Dayton: Muddy.

King: And very stinky.

Eda: And gross.

Dayton: And a hint of "why do I live here". Just a bit.

Eda: But, if you look at it from a different perspective.

They look into the sky seeing a shooting star go past. Dayton lays his head back onto his shoulders.

Dayton: Beautiful isn't it.

Luz: Yeah, it really is…

Luz: Eda, how did you know that wizard was lying?

Eda: Look, kid, everyone wants to believe they're "chosen". But if we all waited around for a prophecy to make us special, we'd die waiting. And that's why you need to choose yourself.

Luz: Does that mean you'll give me a magic staff of my own?

Eda: Not yet. But... someday.

They look into the sun set as Dayton then realizes.

Dayton: Also guess what I have!

He shows off the whips he got from beating Adegust. He snaps one in the air making Laxon appear. It squeaks before flying onto his head, cuddling into his hair.

Luz: Whoa! How'd you do that?

Dayton: Their called Devil Arms, their manifestation of a defeated Demon's soul or power.

Eda: Finally gotten one of your own, huh? Took you long enough.

Dayton rolls his eyes as he dismissed the whips as went back to the beautiful view. Luz then stared up at him before leaning her hand on his shoulder.

Luz: I just want to say thanks for coming with me on that adventure, Dayton. Even though it was fake it was actually pretty fun with you around.

Dayton chuckles.

Dayton: No problem, Luz, but next time you want to go on one make sure it's not a prophecy because I will immediately run away from you.

They all laugh in union as they stare at the sunset. Being prepared for a brand new day.
