A.N. I do not own Inuyasha or Doctor Who.
Kagome laid in her bed for hours, staring at the ceiling. Every part of her ached, a deep psychological pain that leeched into her physical being, leaving her breathless. It was worse than just after her return, because then she had been ripped away. Now, all she could think about was the way the Doctor had seemed so closed off as he let her go, utterly without joy.
There was a gentle knocking at the door and Emiko let herself into her daughter's room. "Kagome?" she called out, tone soft. "It's been a few days now. Are you ever going to tell me what happened?"
Sitting up, Kagome swallowed thickly. "Mama, I did something awful." Tears sprang to her eyes and she was relieved when her mother joined her on the bed, her arms feeling like home and safety. "I hurt him. He was getting ready to let me in fully. I saw it in his eyes, and I spat in his face."
"Ssh, ssh." Emiko stroked her back soothingly and kissed her temple. "Why? Did you not care for him?" She did not even ask who they were talking about, having seen the way the two looked at each other when they came home for visits.
"I did, but… His methods aren't mine, Mama. He is all through time, and I already know that we don't stay together, so if we had been, it would have changed it all. It's all so complicated and confusing." The blue-eyed beauty closed her eyes and leaned into her shoulder. "I don't know what to do. It hurts so much…"
"Sometimes, it's better to cherish the good memories we have rather than dwell on the new ones we cannot make." Emiko rocked her back and forth slowly. "You will make your way, like you always do."
Sniffling, Kagome nodded and pulled away. "I think I need to do just that. Find my way… Move on, you know?"
Feeling a twist in her heart, Emiko nodded. "I thought you might say that. There's an account, it's been available to you since you since you came back. It has enough money to get you going. It was set up by a patron of the shrine years ago."
"Who?" Kagome asked, startled. "Someone that I might know?" There was such hope in that moment, a longing for her past.
"It was done anonymously. My point is, you can go wherever you want." Sadness slipped into her expression and she held her daughter tightly. "Just please… Come back."
