Chapter 29:

Reviews please?

To pankajsureka17: that's true and actually a very good idea you have there to write something of your own because I have never read something like that. That makes your statement valid but unfortunately also means I have no idea where to even begin with something like that. House elfs in fighting? Heck we don't even know what they can do specifically. I you have any idea feel free to message me.

4th October 1976, England, Burke Manor:

Voldemort was hammering at his foes defenses but, to his puzzlement, was not able to break them. Sure he would get the couple eventually but it was quite amazing how well Bisonis and Pia Burke were able to work together. If he had fought Johnathan and Blossom Pyrites he would have remarked how similiar the fighting styles of Bisonis and Blossom were. Bisonis was the clear aggressor of the two while Pia threw in a curse or a hex every now and then while defending both herself and her husband. It was beautiful teamplay and if Voldemort had been any other person he would have gotten a sense of longing for a similiar partnership with someone he loved. Alas, Voldemort did not know love so he was able to focus on the matter at hand. Which was killing these nuisances to his great plan. Slowly the battle turned towards his followers' favour. Several of his lieutenants (while still alive and now likely at Lestrange Manor being healed) had been taken out of the fight like Lucius Malfoy, Varon Crabbe and Branigan Goyle while Aurum Mulciber and Walden Macnair were downstairs doing...something he imagined. Bellatrix and Antonin were still fighting by his side though and their (and to a lesser extend the others') combined efforts were slowly but surely forcing the Burkes into a corner who fought desperately but probably had realised by now they would get not out of here alive, who after all was able to stand in his way? Noone.

'That's not quite right, is it? You haven't managed to defeat Dumbledore just yet' whispered a treacherous voice in Voldemort's head right before he squashed it. Dumbledore had gotten lucky in their last duel, next time he would fall to Voldemort personally. Lord Burke must have realised their situation when Voldemort suddenly fought only against Lady Burke before he was attacked by enchanted statues. Out of the corner of his eye he saw Lord Burke chant something before pandemonium erupted.

**Scene Break**

Aurum Mulciber watched Walden Macnair impatiently as said man did... something he imagined, Aurum had no idea how curse breaking worked. Aurum wasn't a particularly talented wizard. Sure he was cruel and greedy but that only qualified him as a death eater in general. He was the Lord of the Ancient House of Mulciber and henceforth commanded 4 votes on the Wizengamot but by now plenty of houses on the Wizengamot were in his Lord's corner so only that didn't qualify one as being an inner circle member. No the fact that he was one of the first death eaters qualified him. He had been part of Voldemort's (back then Tom Riddle's) Slytherin gang back in Hogwarts and continued to stay loyal throughout the years. Even if Aurum hadn't been a believer he would have stayed loyal, one didn't just quit being a death eater. The only outs were betrayal or death well only death cause betraying Voldemort meant one died sooner or later... well more like sooner than later.

**Scene Break**

'Merlin what did the Burkes pay for this? I am not Rockwood but damnit I got an O on my NEWTS in Curse Breaking' Walden Macnair thought while gritting his teeth. He had indeed mastered the Curse Breaking NEWTS like a walk in the park and he pitied the Hogwarts kids these days who didn't get to enjoy the course anymore. Still even with all his talent he just wasn't able to figure out what kind of wards had been put on this door. The only thing he knew that more than a simple colloportus prevented the door from opening. Then again even if he had been able to open it he probably wouldn't have done so, Merlin knew what kind of traps could be there. Glancing at Mulciber besides him he wasn't so sure if his associate was as smart as him so he thought about warning him.

'Eh the oaf probably isn't gonna listen to me anyway so why waste the effort?' he thought after a moment. He tried to break through the wards for another minute when voices calling for help got his and Mulciber's attention.
„Mulciber go and find out what's all the fuss about, will ya? I can't work like this" he told the man.

„Sure man, gonna be right back. Probably some new recruit overwhelmed with all the stuff he is seeing" Mulciber said with a grin which Walden returned, sometimes it was nice just talking pleasently with one's associates.

„Heh no surprise, Burke Manor is quite magnificant, isn't it?" Walden asked Mulciber. The Burke family was one of the most influential families which came from their long history and their immense wealth and that wealth had to go somewhere. Since the Burke family generally disapproved of bribery the money often went into the manor and other properties the family owned.

„True. Ya think our Lord's gonna move our base of operations here when this is done?" Mulciber asked which made Walden thoughtful. He hadn't thought about it until now but the question was valid. Burke Manor was certainly more glamorous than Lestrange Manor, yes he could see his Lord moving here.
„It wouldn't surprise me to..." but Walden didn't get further as a recruit came around the corner.

„Sir sir sir, you have to come and... I don't know bring our Lord here or something. Lord Crouch, his allies and and.. and Professor Dumbledore are here! We got them busy on the third floor but we really need help!" the panicking recruit cried out. For Merlin's sake, the old headmaster always had to ruin their fun, didn't he?

„Argh dammit, now when everything was going well. Alright, Mulciber you gonna help out? I'm going to see if our Lord wants to play with our old Transfiguration Professor" Walden told Mulciber who went downstairs to organise the defense of the assault against their attackers who were obviously trying to assist the defenders... Walden abandoned that strain of thought before it could confuse him too much.

**Scene Break**

The Burkes had activated a few more traps and had retreated into a sideroom. While the library was ripping itself apart and their enemies were busy they warded the door.

„Father shouldn't we try to escape?" asked Bilomo who was concerned about his wife and children.

„I will not let You-Know-Who take our home for himself, I'd rather raze it to the ground. Everyone except, you are free to choose if you want to make a last effort with me or apparate to our allies to help with their defense. Bilomo apparate to the basement and get your family out of there. Tell Bertram he has the same options as everyone else and then go to the Crouchs" Bisonis said and waited for his family to make their choice as Bilomo apparated into the basement. He saw only grim determination in his family's eyes and Bisonis realised that everyone was ready to die with him today. Their family's future was now in Bilomo's hands and Bisonis allowed a small smile to form on his face, Bilomo would make a fine Lord Burke.

**Scene Break**

„Well if this wasn't annoying, I don't know what is" said Antonin Dolohov Voldemort as they got rid of the rest of the enchanted books that had caused chaos between his death eaters. Around them the other death eaters dealt with the fallout. The injured were taken back to Lestrange Manor while the dead were brought to the Riddle graveyard. Serves the arrogant fools who dared to die.

„Right you are Antonin but like everything else, anything they throw at us is merely an annoyance nothing more. Now, let's get this over with. We have taken enough time as it is and I'd like to get back soon to hear how the attack on the Pyrites went" he told his lieutenant and started to look around where his enemies might have fled to.

„My Lord if you could be patient a little bit longer a certain old fool, some others and members of the Ministry Alliance are downstairs fighting our associates" said a cautious but mocking voice behind him. He turned around to see Macnair at the entrance of the destroyed

„Hmpf, I guess it was to be expected that he would have to face the Ministry Alliance today but Dumbledore? The meddlesome fool always has to annoy me at every opportunity, doesn't he? Alright then, Walden lead the way" the dark lord said grumpily. It would be the second time he'd fight against his former professor and this time he would prevail. He might not be able to kill the headmaster but defeating him alone would be a significant morale boost for his followers.

„Yes my Lord" Walden said bowing to Voldemort.

**Scene Break**

The relief team had torn through the few death eaters on the second floor but their arrival must have been noticed by the time they were climbing the stairs to the third floor as they encountered a lot more resistance on said floor. The relief team's soon was outnumbered as more and more death eaters came upon them from all directions. Albus didn't care too much about them however, he didn't even have to intervene instead letting his allies take care of their low skilled enemies while he internally prepared against his second fight against Tom. The environment sadly meant that Albus would not be able to use the more esoteric branches of magic if he didn't want to damage his surroundings and he'd prefer not to make an enemy of the Burkes. This combined with Tom's superior power meant that he would have to rely on his experience in the coming fight. Still, He felt reasonably confident that he would be able to hold against Tom long enough for the Burkes to flee, if any were still alive that is. Tom's overconfidence often made him careless and Albus knew that this would eventually be his former student's undoing.

Albus sidestepped a killing curse not bothering to block it with something, the resulting explosion would only have harmed his allies. He sighed, turned to Bartemius who was also only somewhat involved in the fighting and said „Bartemius, I am sure Voldemort will soon join the commotion here, so I will be trying to split him off from the rest of the group".

„Of course Albus. Will you require any additional assistance?" Bartemius asked him after thinking about Albus' words for a few seconds.

„That would be greatly appreciated" he replied to which Bartemius nodded.

„Then I will try to keep him busy while you...?" Bartemius said leaving the question unasked.

„My intention is to lure him into a side room and then to blast him out of a wall" Albus told the man who raised an eyebrow.

„That is quite the risky endeavor, don't you think Albus?"

„Indeed but I hope the Burkes will forgive me if the wall to the outside is too badly damaged"

**Scene Break**

In the dimly lit basement, the air heavy with tension, the sound of apparition echoed through the confined space. Philomena and Bilomo Burke materialized, their faces etched with concern and relief as they spotted their children, Barrow and Bianca, along with Bertram, who had already taken up a protective stance.

"Mother! Father!" Barrow exclaimed, rushing forward to embrace them, while Bianca's eyes widened with a mix of relief and worry.

Bertram, wearing a mask of false concern, stepped forward, feigning relief. "Thank goodness you're here. It's not safe. We have to leave."

But his true intentions remained hidden, veiled by his deceptive actions. As Philomena and Bilomo moved closer, a flicker of panic flashed across Bertram's eyes. His true allegiance to Voldemort had clouded his judgment, and a twisted plan had taken root in his mind.

Suddenly, with a swift and unexpected movement, Bertram launched an attack, his wand raised. Shock and disbelief washed over Philomena and Bilomo, their expressions frozen in disbelief at the betrayal.

Spells flew through the air, lighting the dimly lit basement. Philomena and Bilomo fought back, their spells colliding with Bertram's. But the element of surprise, coupled with Bertram's determination, gave him the upper hand.

Not a minute later one of Bertram's curses found its mark, striking Philomena. Bilomo, usually a very calm man, became enraged but he was an academic and not a fighter. Soon he too fell victim to Bertram's aggressive fighting style. Philomena's and Bilomo's bodies were now limp on the floor, their eyes staring blankly into nothingness. The room fell silent, filled only with the echoes of their gasps for breath, now forever silenced.

Barrow and Bianca, frozen in shock and horror, watched as their parents' lives were extinguished before their eyes. The weight of the situation crushed them, tears streaming down their faces, mingling with the profound grief that enveloped the room.

Bertram, his eyes cold and devoid of remorse, turned his attention to the stunned children. A grim smile played upon his lips as he prepared to carry out his twisted plan to present them to his lord. He hadn't wanted to kill his family personally, while he didn't love them he didn't hate them either but this was for the best. Before they could react, Bertram swiftly cast a stunning spell, rendering Barrow and Bianca unconscious.

**Scene Break**

„Why am I not surprised to see you here again Dumbledore?"

„Well of course because I am an old meddlesome fool Tom, don't you agree?" Albus asked with a chuckle. It was always nice to rile up Tom who as usual became angry at Albus' mocking.

„You should watch your mouth old fool, we've got the advantage and the Burkes are cornered in the library. I will finally defeat you and then the rest of your followers. Then noone will be able to stop me" Voldemort said grinning at the end maniacally.

Albus exchanged a knowing look with Bartemius, a silent acknowledgement of the risks involved. But time was of the essence, and they had to act swiftly to protect the remaining members of the noble family. Albus tightened his grip on his wand, readying himself for the impending encounter with Voldemort.

As the battle raged on, Albus and Bartemius continued to navigate through the chaos, their spells strategically aimed to keep Voldemort occupied and draw him away from the rest of the death eaters. The dark wizard seemed to sense their intentions, his eyes narrowing with suspicion, but his arrogance overshadowed any caution he might have had.

Albus maneuvered through the labyrinthine corridors, his mind focused on finding the perfect location to execute his plan. He knew that every second counted, as the lives of the Burkes hung in the balance. Finally, he spotted a small side room tucked away in a corner, seemingly untouched by the ongoing battle.

Turning to Bartemius, Albus nodded. "This is it. We need to lure him in here. Be prepared to keep him engaged while I work on blasting him out of the wall."

Bartemius nodded back, a steely determination in his eyes. "I won't let him pass, Albus. You focus on your task."

With renewed determination, Albus and Bartemius positioned themselves strategically near the side room. They continued their onslaught of spells, aiming to keep Voldemort's attention fixated on them. As curses and hexes flew back and forth, Albus skillfully maneuvered, leading Voldemort closer to their intended destination.

Just as they reached the entrance of the side room, Albus shouted, "Now, Bartemius!"

Bartemius unleashed a powerful barrage of spells, keeping Voldemort occupied and preventing him from realizing their true intentions. Meanwhile, Albus focused his energy, gathering his magic to deliver a spell that would send Voldemort crashing through the wall.

But Voldemort wasn't so feared for nothing. Sensing the build up of magic from his nemisis he realised that his enemies had planned something and shot a quick expulso at his former transfigurations professor.

**Scene Break**

In the dimly lit side room of the library, the remaining families huddled together, their hearts pounding with fear and determination. Lord Bisonis Burke, a seasoned wizard, stood tall, his wand at the ready, while his wife Pia stood beside him, her eyes filled with unwavering resolve. Their sons, Bovis and Bartholomeus, flanked their parents, their expressions a mix of determination and anxiety. Juliana and Mercy gripped their wands tightly, prepared to defend their loved ones.

Suddenly, the door burst open with a resounding crash, revealing a group of Death Eaters led by the sadistic Bellatrix Lestrange and the ruthless Antonin Dolohov. The room erupted into chaos as spells flew in every direction, shattering bookshelves and sending debris flying through the air. The Burkes and their allies fought back valiantly, catching some of the Death Eaters off guard with their fierce resistance who had expected the family to finally surrender so sure were they of their victory.

Explosions of red and green lights illuminated the room as curses and counter-curses collided. Juliana unleashed a stunning spell that knocked Dolohov off his feet, buying a brief respite for her family. Bovis, skilled in defensive magic, erected powerful shields to protect his loved ones, deflecting curses with expert precision.

But the Death Eaters, driven by their dark purpose, gradually gained the upper hand. Bellatrix, her cackling laughter echoing through the room, unleashed a barrage of dark curses, forcing the Burkes into a defensive retreat. Bartholomeus countered with a flurry of stunning spells, but he was outnumbered and began to tire.

As the battle wore on, the Burkes fought with unparalleled courage, but their numbers dwindled. One by one, the Death Eaters picked off their targets, leaving only Bisonis and Pia standing. They locked eyes, the weight of their loss and the determination to protect their family etched on their faces.

In a final act of desperation, Bisonis activated a long-forgotten ward, embedded deep within the manor's foundation. The very fabric of the ancient house groaned as the ward's power surged through its walls. Cracks formed, and the ceiling trembled ominously.

The Death Eaters paused momentarily, their confidence faltering as the integrity of the manor began to crumble around them. Bisonis and Pia stood steadfast, their voices rising in an incantation to hasten the ward's destructive power. The ground shook violently beneath their feet, as if the house itself rebelled against the invaders.

Amidst the chaos, curses flew wildly, spells of destruction and defense blending in a cacophony of magic. The manor quaked, its very existence threatened by the unleashed power and as the Death Eaters realized the imminent danger, panic and desperation filled their eyes. The Burkes may have been to proud to abandon their manor but the death eaters had no attachements to the building so fearing for their lives the death eaters in the library quickly apparated out.

Downstairs the battle had continued, Dumbledore and Bartemius were in a stalemate in their battle against Voldemort but their allies had managed to cut some of Voldemort's followers down. Then the building began to shake and Dumbledore noticed the structural integrity of the building was failing. Casting a sonorus he shouted „Everyone apparate out. The building will soon collapse, there is no point in staying here any longer". Both sides heard this of course and the battle quickly ended, only a few battle participants staying long enough to die when the manor's upper floors collapsed.

**Scene Break**

„So were these two Hit-Wizards or something? They're not wearing auror robes" asked an excited Christopher Weasley, he had never seen Hit-Wizards before. They seldomly came to Britain, he knew that from his father who had worked with one. The group had split into two, the two strangers scouting the north side while the three aurors scouted the south side of the Courthouse.

„No that doesn't make sense Weasley. The last Head of the Hit-Wizards might have been a Pyrites but the ICW would never send a team of them to her family even if it is being attacked. To be honest I think the ICW hasn't even gotten news about the attack yet. And even if they did they can't send anyone officially without Wizengamot approval of their intervention and there has been no such approval since Hepzibah Smith was killed under suspicious circumstances in 1958. Perhaps something that will have to be addressed after this mess."

„Wait my father worked with the team of Hit-Wizards back then and he told me Mrs. Smith's house elf had accidentally poisoned her"

„That is indeed the official story which is unfortunately not the entire truth. Headmaster Dumbledore claimed that Hepzibah had been murdered by a dark wizard. The pair of Hit-Wizards the ICW sent because of that claim were able to prove that Hepzibah had indeed not been poisoned but murdered likely by the killing curse. They couldn't find the perpetrator however, Dumbledore remained silent on any suspiciouns and the Wizengamot couldn't be convinced of the house elf's innocence so the case was closed and well the official story remained that Hepzibah had been killed by her house elf."

„Oh okay well then who are these two strangers if they're not Hit-Wizards?"

„I believe our coworker here can shed some light on the issue, can't you Shellford? You have stayed remarkably silent so far"

„Only because I had nothing to add but yeah I guess I know a little. Not much though, the only thing I can tell you is that the two are friends of Dumbledore. That's however the only thing I know about the two, Merlin I don't even know their names"

„Sooo it's not completely certain they aren't Hit-Wizards then? Dumbledore is the Supreme Mugwump after all so he must have friends amongst them"

„Yeah he most likely has so I guess it isn't 100 percent certain but like I said it is pretty much impossible. Hmm speaking of: Scrimgeour your family has a seat on the Wizengamot, anything you can tell me about the possibility of future Hit-Wizards involvement?"

„Well the issue is certainly going to be addressed by either Lord Bones, Dumbledore or Potter but I doubt such a vote is going to pass"

„Why? We could most certainly use their help, the battle here earlier showed that many of us aren't capable of fighting a war. I know I'm certainly not a capable fighter right now."

„You underestimate the stubbornness of most Lords and Ladies on the Wizengamot Weasley. Their pride would not allow them to admit that things are going so horribly as that we need to ask the ICW for help."

„I really hope you're wrong there Scrimgeour as the future is going to be a dark one if things continue to get worse."

**Scene Break**

„Why do you think Dumbledore sent three aurors with us?" Mara Evergreen asked her fellow order member Dedalus Diggle.

„Hmmm I'm not sure Mara maybe he thought we could use some assistance with our mission? Eh forget about it, I for one his idea to get us help was a splendid one" Diggle replied and Mara had to suppress the urge to roll her eyes.

„Of course you do, ever thought about how one of them might be a death eater?"

„And there you are again with your paranoia. You really need to stop with that young lady, it might affect your health at some point" The man said with a wink „But no I don't believe any of them are our enemies. All three were at the battle here between aurors and death eaters which is why they were at the ministry as they were still there to give their reports on. Also, the Weasleys are a notoriously light familys. I seriously doubt anyone of the family would even feel tempted to join You-Know-Who. But anyway what do you think they're talking about right now? I bet they're discussing if we're Hit-Wizards haha" the man said somberly at first before becoming cheerful again, an ability which Mara sometimes envied him for.

**Scene Break**

Apparating back to Burke Manor, Voldemort's rage boils within him. The grand manor was supposed to become his new seat of power, a testament to his dominance but now, it layed partially in ruins, its once-imposing facade reduced to rubble. His eyes narrowed with fury as he surveyed the wreckage.

Descending into the basement, Voldemort found Bertram standing besides what he assumed to be four corpses.

„My Lord, I felt the manor trembling enormously. What has happened? Did anyone escape?" the man asked cautiously.

„It is done Bertram, you are the only Burke left judging from the corpses I see" Voldemort said to his follower not without a little amusement.

„Oh no you are mistaken my Lord. Philomena and Bilomo were indeed killed by me but the children are still alive".

This stumped Voldemort a little but he quickly became serious and ennervated the children.

His voice dripped with malice as he offered them a choice, a twisted invitation to join his ranks.

"Join me, children, and embrace the power that awaits you. Serve me faithfully, and your names will be etched in history." Voldemort said giving the same options to the two he had given their now dead family.

„We come from a noble bloodline, we are Burkes and grandpa Bovis said we never bow down to anyone." Barrow said arrogantly but he flinched when the Dark Lord's eyes shifted to him.

Voldemort's patience already thin broke, his anger simmering just beneath the surface.

"Foolish children! You dare to challenge me? I am Lord Voldemort, noone challenges me. You will pay for your insolence boy"

In an act of merciless cruelty, Voldemort threw the Cruciatus Curse towards Barrow.

"Please... please, make it stop!" Barrow managed to get out before his entire being was consumed by pain. The young boy's screams filled the air as he writhed in agony, his body contorting uncontrollably.

Bianca's cries mingled with Barrow's pain as she began to plead with the fear inducing man.

"No, please! Spare him! We'll do anything you want, just don't hurt him!"

But Voldemort, consumed by his sadistic desires, showed no mercy. Barrow's cries eventually subsided and were replaced by an eerie silence.

"Such is the price of defiance." Voldemort said coldly shaking his head at the stupidity of the Burke children.

Tears streamed down Bianca's face as she clung to Bertram. Her body trembled with fear and desperation.

"Uncle Bertram, please! Save me from this... this monster!" she cried out but

"I'm sorry, Bianca but one should not defy our Lord"

Voldemort grabbed Bianca's arm, his grip firm and unyielding, and began to drag her away. Her cries grew fainter, filled with desperation and longing.

"Bertram, please... don't let him take me! Please!"

But Bertram only watched as his cousin's daughter was being taken by the embodiment of evil, his heart aching, knowing that he was powerless to protect her.
