Riots were not a novelty to the eyes of veteran officer Oberlander.

As a man that served the law enforcement for years, the ways rebellions unfolded were usually within anniversaries of dead workers, failed revolts or just... anniversaries of any sort. It was odd how some of those planned events were conjured, with the rebellious peasants always striking him as strange in their mindsets.

Sure, the rationing had hit everyone, but to see people get so restless so recently didn't feel right. Peasants received 'work checks' to supplant their lack of resources, and work in the fields had been increasing due to the need to sustain the belly of all denizens.

However... factories had gotten particularly troublesome in recent months. At first, some suspected it was the war weariness doing this, but it was slowly becoming clear through some bizarre findings in some places where terrorists had been caught and killed that their plans were being subsided by something else. The Darcsens? No, while they were the cause of many evils, the funds and the weaponry found around was sign that someone in the high society was responsible for this.

Reports were styled and yet not much was done beyond that. This was another red flag in Oberlander's mind. He had been expecting that the efficient justice system within the Empire would have handled the traitors accordingly, but it became clear in the last few weeks that, due to the silence that came within this growing issue, that no effort was being done to hunt down the culprits.

Then the 'stalking' issue became a thing. He wasn't able to fully confirm this, but he had been tailed for days now and he had been carrying around his standard-issued revolver around due to this. The tense escalation of troublesome events found its 'closure' this very day.

A revolt was planned to take stage within the city's main square. Lecca was a city that was conquered from the Republic of Padania during the First War. Oberlander could still remember the tales some of his former superiors that had long retired over the intense skirmishes between the Imperial Military and what was clearly a 'meek partisan defense'.

The Republic had struggled to sustain an economy capable of producing a proper standing army during the war, and they proved to be an easy target to demoralize and then 'decapitate'. Trouble was not uncommon, but the new war rekindled a rather tedious pattern of riots.

The 'Workers Liberation Front' had been the most active. These 'Communists' getting too earnest in trying to 'break the Imperial shackles'. They were not as united as many would worry about, their 'Front' being split in factions between 'Nationalists/Regionalists' that sought to split the Empire in decentralized regions as it would be without the 'Imperial Alliance', and 'Mackasians' or 'Disciple of Erik Mackasen' that followed to the letter the long-dead revolutionary that had created the Communist Agenda fifty years ago.

Mackasen was a controversial figure. To some, he was the 'creator' of the purest form of evil- even worse than what Democratic Values the Federation preached about. In fact, one could say that his contribution to this pesky ideology was to just 'poison the wells'. Most of the followers of his were people that had been disillusioned by the chance of 'reforming the Empire through regular means'. People that were willing to engage in crime and dissension for the sake of acquiring change.

Dangerous people that had to be put down as dogs that they were.

From standard equipment for the police made by handgun and batons, the administration was forced to provide rifles. And those proved to be quite essential in putting down some of the more violent attacks on the city. Time passed, the dissent grew as the industry was straining due to the major losses suffered by the empire but... nothing prepared them for what was clearly an 'unusual rebellion'.

The police had the plans on them and men were deployed fast when the first news of crowding came to their department. Roadblocks were swiftly established, MGs were actually employed due to the potential present of military-grade weaponry delivered to the more radical members of the revolters and... Armored Cars?

That small detail confused most of the officers as they had not been briefed on any vehicles being dispatched to them. There was silence and, for a few minutes, no one questioned about the sudden arrival, but then one noticed something that shook them to the very core.

"T-Their emblems- they are not-"

Oberlander was confused by the panicked tone, but his attention was brought to this very element and... he felt his heart tense up as he realized why there was sudden fear. The Imperial Emblem... had been crossed out. The symbol of the Mackasians was there in its stead.

There was no longer silence as the machine guns within the vehicles opened fire. Oberlander moved fast to take cover, rushing to find that near some empty barrels and diving to the ground. His ears covered by his hands as his wide eyes were witness of the most macabre sight of his career. Various officers got gunned down, some survived but were missing limbs and... the rest was mauled by the ruthless bullets.

The loud noise of guns cracking echoed all around the square as the other roablocks were attacked. With the monstrosity of a development ceasing, Oberlander's nightmare was soon 'elevated' when he saw people approaching and one of them, brandishing a gun took aim to the survivors.

"Long Live to the Revolution and the People. Long Live Erik Mackasen!"

Oberlander held his breath, but he was visible. One moment he tried to think of words to beg for his life, the next one he found his world going into nothing as a gunshot rang and a bullet rammed into his head.

That very day, Lecca was subjected to a full-blown rebellion and occupation. A true civil war was brewing as the first of many cities in the Empire started to collapse from within... but the Empire was not the only one facing trouble from within.

General Alfonso Ferrel

Iniesta, Iberican Republic, Atlantic Federation

War comes to all, but Iberica was not ready for one.

If someone had asked General Ferrel to consider mobilizing troops to aid his Federation's Allies back when they first started this war, then he would have rushed to the aid. But maybe out of pride and interest to make it a 'quick victory campaign' he received no request for troops... until it was clearly going bad for them.

Despite what many would consider opportunism and a deep case of national fervor, what drove Ferrel from holding the Republic in sending the 'promised' troops was one of pragmatism that was common in any military officer with a brain. The Federation had lost most of its army and, while the Imperial troops were not unscathed from the experience, the Iberican Army was not ready for that sort of confrontation.

Their best troops were trained and located in Martapina, in the island of Malarca, and their redeployment would take them too much time. In the words of the ambassador: "The Ibericans should show their worth of care towards Republicanism by aiding the Federation."

Their desperation just made the message even faker than anyone would have imagined.

Even the staunchest supporters of the Federation had been shown to be quite withdrawn in the parliament's spars, knowing that this was a weakspot now more than ever. Yet, the Republic was bending to the demand for fresh soldiers to send to the grind.

This was the last straw for a man that had nothing to care for such a failure of a democracy. The Republic became a necessity when the democratic forces were willing to cause a nationwide strike against the regency of Infante Fernao VII, the child unfit to rule just yet and the council in charge of him taking horrible decisions to handle the dissent.

At the time, the General had been a mere Major, but he had shown some interest in a Constitutional Monarchy, yet the Republic that came killed any hope for a modern government driven by respectful democratic ideals. The Republic was corrupt and clearly influenced to support the Federation through monetary compensation for the politicians supporting such a move.

In this regard, Ferrol knew that something had to be done and he had been eyeing two cases that helped him. The first was the weak but clearly 'modern' monarchism proposed by the Integralist Party of Iberica. With the recent ban on Radical organizations, most of their worst members had been expelled, thus leaving the growing party crippled but now devoid of troublesome elements that were more harmful than supportive of a return to the monarchy.

The other case was one unfolding within Imperial lands. Gallia had been captured and this should have been the standard case of an Imperial prince taking over the land from Princess Cordelia. It proved to not be the case. Kurt Hertling was a test of the military relevance within this sort of decision. He was like one of those Rumalian Generals-turned-Imperators that once conquered most of Europa.

He came, he saw and he conquered. But where that should be defined by an elevation to nobility, Hertling refrained to just 'becoming the regent'. Such a move was... interesting. Technically speaking, the Imperials were in charge, but they allowed organs of government to exist to sustain a local administration devoid of opportunists.

And the more Ferrol studied this situation and then contemplated what had to be done, he knew that it was the right time to strike. With the army mostly in his group after years of careful probing, he staged a coup against the government. Troops were soon occupying vital buildings in the capitals and in other regions of the country by June 19th. Resistance was met shortly after the proclamation of the Iberican State and the referendum to restore the monarchy.

Dissidents rallied as political foes tried to muster the same threats that conjured the thrice-damned republic, but with their politics failing to raise their popularity and their reputation tarnished by years of inaction, these empty threats failed to get a reaction. The 'Civil War' issue never came to happen as most of the troublemakers were rounded up and dealt with accordingly depending on their worrisome manners.

In less that two days, Ferrol became the most powerful man in Iberica and he soon confirmed the return of Fernao VII as the rightful king. Now seventeen and ready to prove his values through what he learned with his tutors after years of 'house arrests', the young king accepted Ferrol as the first Prime Minister of the Second Iberican Kingdom with the mandate of 'cleansing the pollution and build a proper political system with Iberican Characteristics'. And just like that, the Federation lost something of value as a source of troops declared independence and reverted to its roots.

All the while riots against the rationing kept on ravaging its country and a new wave of nationalism and monarchism ripped through the ideals of freedom and democracy that had long been ruined by foolish politicians with ambitions and greed.

Also, there have been changes to my Pxtreon as I have decided to unlist/unpublish the Tier at 1$. There has been a poll with the Pxtrons and the large majority has decided to have me go through with this. In layman's terms, current 'Old Tier 1' Pxtrons can keep paying the same monthly thing of 1$, but new Pxtrons will be able to use the new lowest one which is at 3$. That being said, the New Tier 1 also allows Pxtrons to take part in the Monthly Suggestion Post which I create on the page for anyone wanting to advance suggestions of Story concepts. Yes, if you have a story idea and you want me to entertain it, you can post those on the monthly suggestion post and then it will appear in the weekly polls.
