Heya readers, I can only appologise for the delay on updates on this story. I had writers block and I had other stuff going on in my life, such as work, social life and training for an aerial arts competition that I competed in yesterday, and I'm pleased to tell you I won first place in my category! Ameteor Aerial Silks!
Anyway, enough about me, I hope you enjoy this late upload!
Chapter Seventeen
Fear Spreads
An hour later, Angela returned to her parents' house.
No sooner did she cross the threshold than her mother appeared from the sitting room.
"Angie!" she cried grabbing Angela's arms "Thank goodness your home! I just saw the news!"
"Dear! calm down!" Angela heard her father's voice.
"What's going on?" Angela asked.
"Another attack!" her mother cried ignoring her husband's request to calm down, "Those costumed vigilantes attacked again!"
Angela blinked and she paled when she realised, they were talking about Diablo.
"They did?" she asked dumbly yet she winced as she felt her mother's grip on her arms tighten.
Her mother nodded then saw her daughter look uncomfortable and she released her muttering an apology.
Angela's father then approached.
"We're concerned Angie." He said, "If there are dangerous people out there, we don't want you going far."
Angela blinked.
"But dad..." she said.
"No buts!" Angela's mother cut in "Look, I know we sound like we're being overprotective…"
"You are!" Angela wanted to say, but she didn't dare.
"But we're concerned, after what we've seen and heard on the news." Her mother continued.
"We are indeed." Her father added "Look, just to be safe, may we request that when you finish work late that I come and pick you up?"
Angela sighed.
After what she had been told by Diablo, at least, she hoped what he had said was true, that he wasn't a danger to her, and that he wouldn't hurt her.
She was still curious to know more about him and after making the arrangement to meet him at the Baseball field at Midnight, she wondered whether she had made the right choice.
"Angela?" her father's voice brought her down to earth.
Angela jumped slightly and looked at him.
"Okay, yes dad." She said, "I'm doing the late shift tomorrow actually, so you can pick me up then."
"Thank you honey." Her father said then he looked at his wife.
"After what we saw on the TV, it was really worrying, even though the people these…these…vigilantes have attacked are bad people, and I'm in agreement they got what they deserved…. two wrongs don't make a right."
"They certainly do not." Angela's mother agreed.
"I am curious to know who or rather what they are." Angela's father mused.
"Me too." Angela said quietly.
"Indeed, I am curious…" she thought to herself.
Meanwhile, Diablo returned to the abandoned house and entered the basement, yet as he crept down the stairs, he saw Rex standing at the bottom with his arms folded.
"Boss." He said, "Where have you been?"
Diablo almost jumped out of his skin when he saw the Doberman standing there.
"Rex?" he asked, "How long have you been there?"
"For about half an hour." Rex replied, "I woke up and suddenly realised you weren't there." He gestured to the chair Diablo had been sitting and sleeping in before.
Diablo sighed and walked to the bottom of the stairs where he saw the others who were still asleep.
"Sorry I worried you." Diablo said, "I couldn't sleep, I needed some air."
"Okay?" Rex asked sceptically.
Diablo nodded.
"Yes." he said, "I decided to stretch my wings, and I flew to Fall Creek Falls."
"No-one saw you, did they?" Rex asked worriedly as he looked at the Raven then to the small window where the light was coming in.
"No," Diablo replied, "I made sure no-one saw me, or followed me."
He didn't want to tell Rex about Angela, at least not now, not until he had his meeting with her.
"I did find out that our attack on that Nazi family has been found out by the community." Diablo said changing the subject "I overhead some tourists when I was hiding in the caves at the Falls."
Rex's eyes widened.
"It's spreading?" he asked, "News of our antics are spreading?"
"Indeed, they are!" Diablo smirked "The other sinners are fools if they decide to carry on their activities, any idiot would know to lay low if they knew we would target them next."
"Most of these sinners are idiots." Rex growled "I look forward to attacking our next victim."
"As are the others." Diablo agreed as he looked at the other sleeping Disciples.
"But now, let us get back to resting, we will plan our next attack in a few hours."
Rex saluted to Diablo.
"Yes sir." He said respectfully before returning to his sleeping spot and Diablo walked over to the chair.
Rex walked over to a mattress near the wall where Regan also lay sleeping and he knelt before curling up and falling asleep.
Diablo watched him then relaxed back in his chair, his mind still on the upcoming meeting with Angela, and he wondered if she would turn up tomorrow at midnight at the baseball field.
He was hopefully, but he knew she might not turn up due to fear or doubt and he didn't blame her if she did the latter.
"No point in worrying about it." He thought "I'll just have to hope she does turn up and if she does, hopefully we can get to know each other more."
He closed his eyes and relaxed and before long he too was fast asleep.
Back at Angela's house, Angela sat in her room, she gazed at her brother's photograph and out the window.
The sun had started to peek behind the clouds, despite the rain, the sun still managed to find a space to make itself known.
After excusing herself to her room, and looking at the attachment Solomon had sent her, and thinking back to her and Diablo's meeting at the falls, she wondered whether she should go to the baseball field to meet him.
She wasn't one to make promises she didn't keep, but she was concerned as she wasn't fully sure about the Raven, and whether she could fully trust him.
Angela looked over at her brother's photo and sighed.
"Oh, how I wish I could ask your advice Nigel." She said softly "Or better yet ask you to join me."
She looked at her phone then a thought crossed her mind.
After meeting up with Solomon again, she remembered their times in High School when they stuck together, and she wondered whether to confide in him about Diablo.
"I remember him telling me." She thought "About how he would help me get through the loss of Nigel, he said he was there to listen if I needed him."
A small smile crossed her lips as she remembered one afternoon at High School not long after she had been given the sad news about Nigel.
Flashback
It was Monday afternoon and Angela sat under a tree staring at the sky, it was three days since she had been given the devastating news about Nigel and she was still feeling raw.
She had spent the weekend mourning and unable to focus on anything, and she wasn't sure how she was going to cope at school.
She didn't speak to anyone and even the teachers didn't try to get her to speak in class as they knew she had received the worst news possible.
Angela looked up at the sky which was a bright blue with barely any clouds and the sun was hot and bright.
In the area around her, students were going about their business, either sharing snacks, talking about their assignments, or simply just hanging out.
"How can the sun still shine on a day like this, how does life just go on by when I feel so sad." Angela asked herself.
She looked up again at the sky and wondered if there was a heaven and if Nigel was there and looking down on her, she wasn't religious, but she had an open mind and often wondered if there was a heaven or some kind of afterlife where those who had passed on went to, and if Nigel was reunited with their grandparents and previous family members.
"Angie?"
Angela looked behind her and she saw Solomon standing behind the tree.
"Hey?" Solomon gave a small smile.
"Hey." Angela said emotionlessly as she looked away from him and stared ahead.
"Mind if I join you?" Solomon asked.
Angela didn't say anything, but she nodded.
Solomon then sat next to her and looked at the sky.
"You okay?" he asked, even though it was a silly thing to ask, he knew Angela wasn't okay, but he didn't want to leave her in her time of great sorrow.
"I don't know." Angela replied, "It still feels so unreal, after Nigel died, I just…I don't know what to do or think."
Solomon sighed and shook his head.
"I'm so sorry Angie." He said, "I'm sorry this had to happen to you, and I know I can't say or do anything to make it better, but I hope you know that I'm here for you if you need someone to talk to, cry to, even shout at." He added the last part with a chuckle.
Angela looked over to Solomon and couldn't help a small smile.
"Thanks Solomon." She said, "I appreciate it."
"Anytime." Solomon said and leaned back against the trunk of the tree with Angela.
Even though Angela felt comforted that Solomon had offered his support she still felt sad and bereaved.
"It's like the end of the world." She thought "But I can be grateful to have someone to lean on…" she looked at Solomon briefly then back ahead.
End Flashback
Angela sighed.
"Solomon did keep his word, and he helped me get through High School until we graduated, I'll be forever grateful for his help, I wonder if he can help me now?"
She found his number and began to type a text.
"Here goes, I hope he doesn't think I'm crazy for making this request…"
So Angela has arrived home to her worried parents, and Diablo has returned to the hideout only to find Rex waiting for him.
Diablo is hopeful that Angela will turn up, at the same time Angela has her doubts and has decided to text Solomon for help.
How will this play out? Keep checking back to find out!
