Heya all! Sorry again with how slow this fic is coming, but I finally finished '13 Candles' and a sequel 'Aftermath' is in the works but I was able to cook up another chapter of this fic, especially as I'm hoping to finish this soon.
Last place we left off, Seth had come to appologise to Angela for how he acted towards her, as what happened to him wasn't her fault, and to ask her not to be angry at Diablo. Have his words sunk in? Well read below to find out!
Chapter-Twenty-Eight
Sniffing out the Prey
Angela stared at Seth and Diablo.
The words Seth said replayed in her head over and over, and she began to think hard.
Yes, it was true Diablo was responsible for the mutation of Seth, but he did save his life, and since so far, the police were searching for the perpetrators, but hadn't caught them, but Rex being a Doberman and having a good sense of smell he could pick up the scent of who might have caused the fire.
If he could work out where to find Seth's attackers quicker than the police, and Diablo could find the attackers and make sure they were punished, then Seth and his family would get justice.
"Please, Diablo is not at fault." Seth said, "Don't be angry at him."
Angela took a few deep breaths.
"I…I…I don't know what to think or what to say to you…or him." She looked across to Diablo.
"I understand you are angry." Diablo said, "And I didn't mean for this to happen, but be assured that Seth will be safe with me and my disciples, and I will personally make sure he gets justice."
"We will find my attackers, and my parents' killers." Seth said, "And make them pay."
"But then, you will go." Angela said, tears streaming from her eyes "And I'll never see you again!"
Seth bit his lip as he wasn't sure what to say to that.
But before he could think, Diablo's walkie talkie went off and the Raven took it out of his belt.
"Diablo here!"
"Diablo! It's Samson!"
"Samson?" Seth asked as he looked over.
"Go ahead!" Diablo said "Report!"
"Rex went on a hunt earlier and he radioed saying he has a scent connected to the fire!" Samson reported "Lamia, Chastity, Regan, Ravage and I are on our way to his spot!"
Diablo's eyes flashed and he looked towards Seth.
"Looks like the prey has been found my friend." He spoke.
Seth's eyes widened.
"You're serious?" he asked.
Diablo nodded.
"You got your positions Samson?" the Raven spoke into the walkie talkie.
"I have yes." Samson replied and gave the Raven the location.
As Angela listened in on the conversation, she felt her blood boil.
She had been so angry, yet she knew after Seth explained it, that Diablo was not at fault but rather those who caused the fire, she knew she had to direct her anger towards them.
She remembered how Nigel had hated bullies, and how he thought those who committed crimes deserved to be punished, and victims were given justice.
Angela narrowed her eyes as she looked at the Oryx and Raven.
"Angela?" Seth asked in a worried voice as he looked at her.
"They deserve to be punished." She said, "If the police won't do anything, I say do it! Those sinners took your family and took you away!"
Seth blinked in surprise and Diablo looked bewildered and cocked his head on one side.
He was surprised hearing those words from Angela, but he could see how the young woman looked.
Angela was now pale, and her angry look faded, and she appeared defeated.
Seth walked over to Angela and placed his hands on her shoulders.
"Angie?" he asked then Angela threw her arms around him and hugged him tightly.
Seth hugged her back and Angela sobbed again.
"Why? Why did it have to happen?" she wept.
Seth stroked Angela's hair comfortingly.
"It's just not fair!" Angela wailed.
"I know, I know." Seth said.
Diablo watched them, then he saw a light come on from Angela's house and his eyes widened.
"Seth! Angela!" he hissed and pointed up at the light "I think we might have attracted attention!"
Angela and Seth looked over and they saw the Raven was right.
Angela quickly wiped her eyes and turned to Seth.
"Will I see you again?" she asked, "Before you have to leave?"
"We will!" Seth said "I promise! Look! Meet me at the Baseball field tomorrow night! Then we shall make exchanges…" he forced out the last part as he squeezed Angela's hands "I won't leave here without saying a proper goodbye." He spoke.
"I didn't want this!" Angela wept softly.
"I know." Seth soothed "But it did…"
"Angela?" a voice made all three jump and Angela looked behind her to see her father walking outside into the yard.
"Okay!" she said, "I'll meet you at the Baseball field tomorrow night!"
Seth nodded and squeezing Angela's hands, he and Diablo moved deeper into the trees and Angela quickly went back towards the house to where her father had come out of the back porch, and he saw her.
"Angie?" he asked in surprise "What were you doing in there?"
Angela sniffled and looked back at the trees before wiping her eyes again.
"Sorry dad." She said, "I thought I heard something in the trees, I thought the neighbour's dog had gotten in there."
"I see." He father replied, "I just came out to see if you were hungry, your mother's made some broth."
Angela felt her stomach growl and she couldn't deny she was hungry, after meeting with Seth and making up with him, she had gotten her appetite back, so she agreed and walked into the house.
Before she entered the back door, she looked back towards the trees and made up her mind to meet with Seth at the same Baseball field, she knew it was going to be a sad moment, but she tried to take comfort in the knowledge that he didn't hate her, that he still cared for her, and that he would be safe with Diablo and the other Disciples.
Within the trees, Diablo and Seth watched from their hiding place until they saw Angela go in.
Seth sighed.
"Poor girl." He said, "I wish I didn't have to say goodbye tomorrow, but at least she knows now that I don't hate her, and she can have peace."
Diablo placed his taloned hand on Seth's shoulder and nodded then looked back at the house.
"Hopefully we can settle things at the field tomorrow." He said, "But for now, we must meet up with the others, so we can deliver justice to the ones who killed your parents and made you what you are."
Seth turned to the Raven and nodded then they both left their hiding places and headed off to search for the other Disciples.
They didn't have far to go as Spencer was such a small town and they soon arrived outside a house just outside the town in a dark quiet neighbourhood.
The Disciples were hiding in a dark alleyway and Samson as soon as he saw Diablo and Seth flying above the street, he whistled to them, and they flew down to him.
"Glad you could join us." The Panther said.
"Did you manage to work things out with Angela?" Ravage asked.
Seth nodded.
"I did yes," and he told them all that had happened, although Angela was still angry at Diablo.
"It will take a while for Angela to fully calm down and understand." Chastity said, "But at least she understands that what happened wasn't his fault, and that we merely wanted to save your life."
Seth nodded again.
"Despite my outburst about my mutation." He said, "I am grateful to be alive."
"You will get your chance to take out your anger on those responsible, soon enough kid." Rex said as he pointed across to the house "I picked up the scent here."
"Are you sure it's the right house?" Seth asked, "The last thing I would want is to target the wrong people."
"Have no fear, Seth." Lamia spoke up "We analysed the place and are confident it's the same people."
"And how do you know?" Diablo asked.
Rex looked at the Raven and smirked.
Flashback
Rex sniffed the air as he trekked through the streets and alleys taking great care not to be seen.
It wasn't too easy to stay hidden as the light hadn't fully faded but he was able to sniff out anyone who was close given his more highly developed sense of smell as a mutant dog.
He had been determined to find the ones responsible for killing Seth's parents and almost killing him before they moved on and he knew the scent was near.
He never forgot a specific smell especially if it meant sinners.
Before long, the Doberman found the scent at a house in a quiet street just outside of Spencer, and his spirits rose.
He was sure he had found the scent and he was ready to alert the other Disciples, but even though he had the right smell, he wanted to check it was the right house and the sinners were inside.
Looking around to make sure no-one was watching, he quickly headed over to the house and crouched under an open window where he heard voices.
"So the Dirty Jew's house burnt down hmm?"
"Sure did! I saw the whole thing!"
"Two dead bodies within."
"And the police don't suspect us?"
"Well, they haven't come to my place that's for sure."
"We better keep a low profile; we may have to skip town for a while just until the whole thing blows over!"
"Good idea!"
As Rex listened, he glowered and snorted.
"Those bastards!" he thought to himself "I do have the right house! And I better inform the others then we can stop these evil monsters!"
He activated his walkie talkie and spoke into it…
End Flashback
"Very Good Rex!" Diablo smirked "Always good to check these things!"
"I know my nose doesn't lie!" Rex commented tapping his nose.
Regan looked excited as she licked her lips.
"So how do we go about this?" Ravage asked.
Diablo thought for a moment.
"Well, it's gotten dark, so I suggested we approached the house slowly, we'll cut the telephone wires, make sure no-one can call for help…then we sneak in from the front and back doors."
Seth looked over at Diablo in worry, but the Raven looked back at him.
"Don't be anxious Seth." He said, "Those monsters that killed your parents won't get the chance to hurt you, or any of us…" he flexed his sharp talons, "By the time we're through with them…they'll be begging for death!"
He looked at the other Disciples.
"Let's go…" he hissed dangerously, and the Disciples were only too happy to oblige as they slowly moved towards the house….
So Angela is starting to see sense, as well as anger at those who took away her best friend, that being the Neo Nazi's, and Diablo and Seth have gotten the call from the other Disciples that the ones who attacked Seth and his family have been found.
Looks like another torturous confrontation is on the horizon! Check back to see how Seth's first night on torturing sinners goes!
