Shifting his attention between the locket and the now very familiar young woman in front of him, Jaune could only mumble in confusion. Now that he could look properly at her he could see the similarities with his own daughter.
Obviously she was older but her eyes where still the same blue like her mothers. Her hair was a mixture of theirs with a shining platinum blonde. She had his chin and his nose. That black wig she had worn really did mask her well.
"How….how is this…"
"It's a long story dad," Kara said walking closer "but it's me…I'm here."
Jaune didn't know what to say and instead just walked up and embraced her tightly, she wrapped her arms around him in response as if she hadn't seen him in ages, which could technically be true. Jaune was still calculating the possibilities in his head, hoping to make sense of this all. But there was no doubt about it. This was his Kara.
As they let go he looked her over once again.
"It really is you…you've grown" he said chuckling.
Kara giggled "I guess so. You seem to have gotten younger somehow, it's weird seeing you without a beard."
Instinctively Jaune touched his chin, not a sign of facial hair to be seen, completely clean shaven as per usual.
"Yeah I suppose…hold on wait! This is all good and all but how did you get here? Did you suddenly become older! Where are we? And? And?"
Kara shook Jaune in order to make him quit his rambling "calm down dad I get it. I do owe you an explanation" she said.
"Oh you damn right you do young lady" Jaune said in a half joking manner. Kara responded to that with another giggle.
"Well you better sit down this is going to take a bit" Kara suggested as she sat down on the ground and Jaune followed her example. Their entire surroundings where dark, and they seemed to be in a weird open spot surrounded by tall buildings on each side. Wherever they were, the atmosphere was creepy and bit dazzling.
"So," Kara started "I suppose the first thing to explain is…how did I get here. Well as you have figured out I'm from the future, fifteen years to be exact and well. I was sort of send on a mission here."
"By whom?" Jaune asked.
Kara hesitated for a moment before saying "Gojo"
Jaune looked slightly dumbfounded "Gojo? You're working for him. After everything he said about you?"
Kara nodded while looking away.
"I know dad. Believe me he's still a stuck up arrogant manchild but he does mean well and that's why I was send back here. The only issue he didn't exactly make it clear what I had to do."
Jaune crossed his arms "sounds like he hasn't changed…but…is that why you saved us back then?"
Kara nodded "yes I was shadowing you from a distance. I was looking for suspicious activity and when I saw you in danger I had to intervene. And then well, we ended up here."
"Yeah wherever we are. This place is weird."
"It's a prison realm," Kara answered "apparently it's a powerful pocket dimension used to house some of the most dangerous enemies Gojo has faced."
"Oh great and now we're stuck in here along with that other guy. You wouldn't happen to know who he is by any chance? Considering the whole future knowledge and such?"
Kara rolled up her sleeve, strapped to her left arm was a small device. She tapped it and it flickered on with a small light. She then typed something on the device and a small screen appeared before him, depicting a picture and information of the man he had fought earlier.
"His name is Oroku Saki, or as he is more widely known, the Shredder. He is a powerful crime lord and martial expert from World 203. He is an enforcer for the Collective but it's a well known secret that he seeks to overthrow it's leader and take the organization and its resources for himself."
The screen of the Shredder disappeared and Jaune took in a breather.
"Well that's just great we being stuck here with him, wherever he is. And you said this was a prison? Who else could be stuck in here. Is there even a way out?"
"There has to be one. Come on let's get a move on" Kara said standing up.
"Wait a minute," Jaune said as he stood up "there is still so much you still need to explain. Our family in the future, that locket you've shown me and…."
He trailed off. He began to wonder if she knew? Did she know that their Weiss was not her real mother. Thanos had said that to her during their last confrontation, and even if child Kara couldn't remember it, young adult Kara definitely knew it by now. Or did she think Thanos was lying? Should he even ask her?
The picture in the locket was unmistakably of their Weiss so she shouldn't know. But then again?
"Dad I know I promised you answers but I can't reveal too much about the future. Just know that you and mom are the best, you've been nothing but the best for me."
Jaune sighed. It alleviated some of the worry from his mind but not enough and he still had questions. He owed it to her to at least explain it.
"Kara about your mother. I want you to know…" Kara stopped him by saying.
"I know….I already know dad…"
Well that answered that. But it didn't bring Jaune relief, instead it only made him feel more unsure and guilty.
"Kara…know that Weiss and I never meant to lie to you. It just…it sort of happened and…"
Again he was cut off by Kara who walked past him and placed a hand on his shoulder "it's okay dad. I'm not mad. I mean in the beginning I was sort of upset. But she raised me, she is my mother and I have never seen her as anything less."
Kara smiled at him and gestured him to follow her. Jaune still mulled her answer over in his head but resolved that she was right and they should move on and explore this dark and dreary realm. After all she was his daughter and he knew he could trust her.
