Seth was working at the auto shop when Dani decided to stop by on her way back from her encounter with Sam.
"Got a minute?" She asked when she found him.
Seth shrugged. "Slow enough day, suppose I can spare a few." He pointed to a spot where she could sit while he went back to work on the car he was working on. "...so, what's up? How are you holding up?"
"Evidently, better than Sam is." She scoffed.
Seth only briefly looked up at that. "Didn't know you guys were talking."
"Yeah, I'm starting to think it should've stayed that way, to be honest." She scoffed.
"Didn't go too well then, I take it." He presumed, internally jumping ahead of her in the story. "Wanna hand me that wrench?"
Dani glanced behind her and set it down on the ground to kick across the garage to him when she found it.
He looked up again, only to pick it up. "Thanks."
"You know, it's like she blames me for what happened, that- that it's my fault that Nat- "
"Well, that makes two of you." He chuckled.
"What's that supposed to mean?"
"It meeeans…." He sighed. "Thaaat it's no secret to any of us how hard you've been on her for how she..handled things with your sister, and Leslie. And that I've been trying to be sympathetic- "
"Sympathetic." She scoffed. "She butchered her on my kitchen floor!"
"Right…" He scoffed, finally actually sitting up to look at her. "So, let's talk about that for a second then. Tyra and her were friends, Kinsey…..her girlfriend just lost her brother, and my best friend by the way, but we'll get to that next!" He tried to keep himself calm, as he was starting to raise his voice. "...then she finds out that her best friend of, what? Four years? Has it out for her, on top of that, she finds out she's been lied to her entire life by the people she trusted even more than that, but yeah…..I wonder why she did that. What could have possibly driven her. God, I just can't put my finger on it."
"...She was my sister, Seth."
He nodded. "You know, Lauren…..before…" He sighed. "...and when I was working at her dad's shop, she'd hang out in the garage with me some mornings, whenever she had off...sit about where you're sitting right now."
Dani smiled back sympathetically, her voice barely above a whisper when she spoke.
"I remember."
He sighed again. "It was hard enough working there after…..after everything. It just... felt empty, even on the mornings she wouldn't have had off….I just couldn't imagine having to look at where she was actually…" He trailed off. "...so, I get that, I get…..why you couldn't stay there in that...in that house."
"Yeah…"
"And Cameron…." He continued, shaking his head to himself. "He'd never done anything to anyone….except sleep with your bitch sister's ex...and he had to die...like that for it. You know they found marks on his hands too, from trying to pry off the rope that she choked him out with before she cut his neck open, did you know that? …..
I have scars too, Dani…..and not just the one she left in my side."
"I'm sorry."
"Yeah…" He scoffed. "So am I. Now what was it you wanted? Cause from the look on your face, it certainly wasn't reality."
"I- I was...I was gonna ask if I could stay with you, since…" She trailed off. "Just for a few days til I…" She sighed. "Til I can find something else."
"Where are you staying now?" He asked, half genuinely concerned, given the circumstances.
"I just got a motel, after the police were done with me." She sighed. "...not like I could go back there."
"You could've called me, you know."
"Thanks."
"Don't mention it." He sighed, finishing up with the car he was working on just before he pulled himself back out from under it to sit up to look at her again. "Tell you what, why don't you go back to your motel, pack up whatever you have there, and meet me out in front of my place tonight, say around 7."
"I'd say that I owe you one." She chuckled nervously.
"I'd say you owe me a lot." Seth chuckled.
"Right." She sort of scoffed, as she got up to head out. "I'm just gonna.."
"Yeah, probably best."
She nodded. "See you tonight."
"Yeah, see ya."
By the time it was around 6:45 that night, Dani was just gathering together the last of her stuff to head over to Seth's house when her phone rang.
She glanced briefly at the name that flashed across the lock screen and half chuckled to herself as she answered.
"Yeah, I know, don't worry. I'm running a little behind, but I should still be there right around- "
"Hello, Dani." An ominously unfamiliar….modulated voice answered instead.
The chill that instantly ran down her spine when she heard that voice was met with a new level of disgust that was only fueled by it when she pulled the phone back away from her ear to double check the name on her screen and put it back up to her ear.
"Wow, Seth…." She replied coldly. "I mean, after everything, after- "
"After….what?" The voice taunted.
She scoffed, her voice growing shaky as she wiped away a tear. "You know…...I actually felt bad for you earlier when you were talking about Lauren an- and about Cameron. Like….." She sniffled. "...like, for the first time in like three years, I wasn't wondering if maybe I should've stopped talking to you too."
"That sounds a little harsh." The voice on the other end teased.
"Yeah, well harsh is what you deserve." She retorted.
"Awfully glad that I'm not Seth, right now." The voice continued to taunt, trying to reel her into their little game, with a chuckle.
"Yeah, you'll wish you weren't." She practically growled it into the receiver when she yanked the phone away from her ear.
"Not as much as you'll wish you didn't hang up on me!" The voice retorted angrily, as she did just that and headed out to her car to start bringing back in the stuff she'd managed to take out there, that she was going to bring to Seth's place.
She was grumbling to herself about how she should've known better, as she left her motel room and walked out into the dark, practically vacant lot.
Vacant, with the exception of some cars from the other people who were staying there…..and one, suspicious looking, figure who was costumed in the infamous Ghostface mask and robe….and standing right in front of her car.
"Unbelievable." Dani muttered to herself. "Do you REALLY still think this is funny, SETH?!"
The figure, still and becoming increasingly more amused, just stood in place and tilted their head.
"Seth, I know you can still hear me in that thing!" She spat back, as she walked towards the person to get to her car. "IT'S NOT FUNNY!"
She gestured her hand, which she was holding her keys in, towards the door that the person was blocking. "MOVE, Asshole!"
The second time she tried it, however, the person grabbed her arm and yanked her forward.
"SETH, LET- " She started to shout, until she looked up at her attacker's mask…..and realized all too late, when she looked into the eyes that were behind it, just how wrong she'd been.
She yanked her arm back, screaming as she tried to free it from her attacker's grip, but was only pulled closer to the person when they yanked her back even harder…...right into their knife.
She let out one final yelp of agony, gasping as the killer drove the knife deeper into her side, and finally released their grip on her to let her fall to the ground.
She tried to get back up, only to have the killer slam her back down onto the ground below her and place their free hand over her mouth so that she could only whimper when they stabbed her again…...only, this time they didn't stop until she was clearly unconscious.
The killer then finally put away her knife to have their hands free to place under her neck and lift her up just enough to look dead into her, now, lifeless eyes, before shoving her back down again and checking their surroundings before leaving to disappear into the night.
