Chapter 4: The Plan
Logan lets out a frustrated growl as he rustles his newspaper. It's been exactly 6 months since he has last seen Rogue and it's been 5 since the X-men asked Magneto for help and he sent Gambit. Irene sits across from Logan, a mug in her hands. "How much longer do we have to wait? For all I know, she could be dead." Logan glares at the blind woman.
Irene lets out a sigh. "Trust me, she is fine. If she wasn't I would have known. She is safe."
"With that thieving Acolyte!" Logan slams his fist on the table, Irene not even flinching a bit.
"He's the safest person she could be with."
"Still can't believe Rogue can't come home."
"In time. Once everything settles down, then she can return home."
"How would we even know when she is able to return?"
"Once the Sentinels are gone."
"That could take months-maybe YEARS!"
"It's the only way. If they were to return to Bayville, which Trask is expecting, he will capture her again and use her powers for the next sentinel upgrade. If she returns too soon after the sentinels are gone she will wake up an ancient and powerful mutant, but as far as i could have seen there is no way to go around that. He will rise again."
Logan lets out a frustrated groan, pinching the bridge of his nose. "I think our main focus right now should be to find Xavier for now… Mystique never told us where he was being kept."
"I am sure Magneto will help you recover the Professor." Irene sips her tea from her mug.
"We could find him just fine without his help." Logan's brow twitched.
"Eventually you will ask him for help again." Irene takes another sip.
Logan pushes his chair back, getting up and walking out of the room. The X-men were in a room Magneto had them stay in, though they were still weary of the master of magnetism. Scott had his arms crossed then looks up to see Logan coming in. "Anything?" Scott asks.
"We just have to trust her process." Logan sighs.
"Rogue is out there though, we should go and get her." Scott's brows furrow.
"Can't. It's a bad idea. Besides, we have to wait a little longer. Right now though, we have to find the Professor." Logan shakes his head.
"The mansions gone, how are we going to find him without cerebro?" Kitty asks.
"I'm working on it." Logan runs his hand down his face, letting out a sigh. "Hopefully, everything blows over and goes back to normal."
"Maybe we could ask Magneto for help again? He had already sent Gambit to retrieve Rogue, maybe he could help us find the Professor." Jean suggests.
"No. I am not asking him for more favors." Logan makes a face.
"Logan, we might not have a choice." Storm pipes up. "We cannot wait any longer. We need to find the Professor now."
Logan groans. "Fine. But I ain't asking him this time."
Jean and Scott exchange looks with Storm, then the three head out of the room to look for Magneto in his base. The trio find him in a room with monitors, the screens showing Sentinel pop ups around the country. He turns when he hears footsteps, then turns back to the screens. "What can I do for you, X-men?" He asks.
"We need your help, again. We need to look for the Professor." Jean steps forward.
"We're thinking Mystique hid him somewhere, but not sure where." Scott says.
"I will help you find Xavier," Magneto turns, his cold eyes on the trio. "But after that, we are going to take down some Sentinels. Trask needs to know not to mess with mutants."
"But won't that make matters worse?" Storm asks. "We must bring him to justice, but him behind bars. War is never the answer."
"War is necessary for our survival." Magneto floats towards them, stopping a few feet in front of them.
"It will make it harder for mutants to live among people." Storm's voice hardens.
The two glare at each other, Jean and Scott keeping their mouths shut as there was tension in the air. Magneto starts to go past them. "We can discuss this more once Charles is found."
"Now I see why Logan didn't want to do it." Scott comments.
Jean just nods as they watched Magneto disappear behind the corner. They head back to the others, trying to think up a plan on how to find the Professor with the help of Magneto. The Master of Magnetism was already in the room with his Acolytes, Logan having a disgruntled look on his face. "Well, now that everyone is here, it seems you X-men need my help yet again, only this time you need help finding your Professor. I say we split into teams, checking areas in Bayville that Mystique has gone to as possible areas for Charles whereabouts. Anyone should find something, report it to me, Wolverine or Storm. The remainder of my team will also be joining you for the time being to help out. Should you encounter any Sentinels, report it to me and i will take care of it."
Everyone nods in understanding, Logan and Magneto splitting up the teams; Hank, Kitty, Kurt and Piotr in one group, while Scott, Jean, Evan and Pyro in another. They head off to different areas in Bayville, searching in places Magneto had told them about. Each one turned up nothing and no Sentinels in sight, which relieved some, but each group had one last place to check. Hank had his group enter the building he has been in only once with the Professor, it was the only place left that could possibly hold the Professor.
Hank asks the security guard some questions, the man leading them to a high security chamber room. He presses a button, telling the group he was confused but had alerted the other security guards at what had happened months prior. The holding chamber opens up, the Professor asleep in an animated state in the Juggernauts holding cell. "Logan, we located the Professor, but we have a problem. The Mystique released the Juggernaut."
"Get the Professor out of there and come back to the base. We'll deal with Juggernaut when he decides to show up." Logan responds.
They bring the Professor back to the base, everyone relieved that he was alive and well. Once he wakes up, the X-men greet him happily, catching him up on what had happened. Charles sits in his wheelchair, his hands together as he processed the information. Irene had also told him of her visions, the Professor nodding in understanding. "I see…" Xavier trails off.
"So, what are we going to do about Rogue's situation?" Logan asks.
"To my understanding, it seems to me she is safer with Gambit for the time being. In the time being, I feel we need to show the public we are not a threat and to have this Sentinel program shut down so that Rogue can return. It will be hard, but I feel we could accomplish this." Charles looks around at everyone as he says this, noticing Logan crossed his arms in disapproval but he said nothing.
Everyone just nods in understanding, working together with the Professor and Magneto to go ahead with the plan. Logan just hopes Rogue was doing okay, but he knows she was strong and could take care of herself but was unaware of her condition.
