Chapter 9: Homebound

Remy can tell Rogue was anxious for a good majority of the car ride. Scratch that. The WHOLE car ride. She barely touched her breakfast and stared out the window anxiously. He held one of her hands in his as he had the other on the steering wheel. Rogue felt like her heart was going to leap out of her throat and run down the highway. It's been a little over a year since the Sentinel incident and since their road journey had started, but now that she is going back home it felt weird. It felt different. And she certainly wasn't calling the X-mansion her home as she felt already at home with Remy by her side.

She tried to see if Remy was feeling the same, though he had a good poker face at masking his emotions at times. Deep down she knew he was just as anxious as her though. He gives her hand a light squeeze to reassure her, to which she squeezes back. They made a few stops, Remy trying to get Rogue to eat something, but she said she wasn't really hungry, but he would give her a looking saying he knew otherwise and she would eat just so he isn't even more stressed as they're driving.

Rogue would glance at the clock in the car every now and then, counting down the hours they have till they get back to Bayville. Each hour that ticked down made her heart pound like a beating drum. She hated how she was following her gut in her decision to go back, but she was never one to never not follow her intuition. As she gazed out of the car window, her mind drifted as she thought of how everyone was going to react to her showing up at the mansion.

"I understand your concerns, Logan, but we must be patient. Rogue will come home in time." The Professor tries to explain to Logan who was pacing back and forth in his office.

Xavier felt sympathy for the clawed mutant, knowing he was close with Rogue and considered her as a daughter. Logan lets put a frustrated growl as he paced. "I can't just sit here and wait anymore, Chuck. Enough is enough. She deserves to come home instead of being in the hands of that Acolyte."

"Destiny said she was safe with Gambit. I trust him to protect her when she needs it." Charles sighs softly.

Logan's brows furrow in distaste. "I'm going out to find her. I don't know how long it'll take, but I'm bringing stripes home."

Logan turns and goes to leave the room, but then the Professor sensed something and smiles. "That won't be necessary, Logan."

Logan's head snaps back to look at the telepath, eyes wide. Then he rushes out of the room, heading downstairs and out the front door.

Rogue lets out a shaky sigh as she adjusts the bag on her shoulder, Remy placing a hand on her back and giving her a comforting look as they walk up the path that leads the enormous mansion. They stop at the fountain when the front door bursts open, Logan standing there with eyes wide and breathing heavily from running. "Hey Logan.." Rogue gives him a small smile. "Ah'm back."

Logan straightens and lets out a sigh of relief, a small smile in his lips. "Good to have you back, Stripes."

His eyes then move to see Remy standing next to her, noticing his hand was on her back. His face hardens a bit. Before he could get a word out, Kitty phases through Logan and attacks Rogue in a big hug. "OH MY GOSH ROGUE!" Kitty shrieks in excitement, Rogue flinching a bit, but lets the girl hug her. "You're, like, home! What, like happened to you?! Are you okay?"

Rogue pushes Kitty back very slightly to give herself space. "Ah'm fahne, Kit. Don't worry."

Kitty then looks back and forth between Rogue and Remy, then smiles. "Well, like, thanks for rescuing Rogue, Gambit."

"Aucun problème (no problem)." Remy nods with a bit of a smile.

The others come out, Scott feeling a bit relieved when he sees Rogue but then his face turns into a scowl as he notices Remy was here on the mansion grounds. He saunters up to the two southerners, stopping next to Kitty. "Well, Rogue, now that you're home, Gambit can go back to Magneto. Thanks for everything." Scott curtly says.

Remy and Scott glare at each other, tension building up. Rogue side steps in front of Remy, glaring at Scott. "He don't gotta go anywhere just yet, Scott. Especially aftah he rescued meh from Trask."

"And now you're home with us where you belong. Have you forgotten he's the enemy?" Scott gives Rogue a look as his hand grabs her wrist.

Remy takes Scott's hand off her wrist, his red on black eyes glaring protectively. "Have y' forgotten dat y' left 'er dere in a lab fo' months?" Remy asks.

Scott pulls his arm back. "We didn't have time to look for her and we didn't know where she was being held. If we had stayed any longer then we would have been caught."

Rogue's eyes widen, anger flashing on her face. Kitty just watched the whole thing, biting her tongue as she didn't want to say anything provoking. "Ah was in a holdin' cell in a medical wing cause Trask broke ma arm and leg! An' all ya can say is ya didn't have tahme ta check? Tch. Thanks fer the welcome home party, Summers."

Rogue leans against Remy, his hand holding hers in a comforting manner to try and calm her down, but his gaze still fixed on Scott in a glare. By this point, everyone noticed the two southerners closeness, but also just how close Scott and Remy are about to fight. "Scott," The Professor's voice snaps Cyclops attention elsewhere. "Let them both in. It's good to see you, Rogue."

The Professor gives a small smile to the two southerners, Rogue making a face at Scott as she walks by him and gives Kitty a 'we'll talk later' look as she passed her. Remy walks behind Rogue, bumping Scott's shoulder a bit as he does. Jean goes up to Scott and tells him to calm down and that Rogue was safe while placing a kiss on her boyfriends cheek. Everyone then heads inside and The Professor, Remy and Rogue go into his office.

Kitty lets out an exasperated sigh as she lazily sits in a chair in the living room, Kurt glancing at her with a raised brow. "I, like, want to know what's going!"

"They've only been in there for five minutes Kitty." Kurt points out.

"Still! I have, like, so many questions for Rogue! Mostly all about her and Gambit. I mean, did you, like, see how close those two are? There's like something going on between those two." Kitty looks at Kurt, unable to keep it in anymore, then she gasps. "What if they're, like, together?!"

Kurt gives Kitty a look. "Rogue dating vone of Magneto's Acolytes? Ja, gimme a break."

He lets out a chuckle, but then stops and looks at Kitty. "Wait.. vat if zats true?"

"See? Rogue has sooo much to explain to me when she gets out of the Professors office."

"Give her some space, Kitty," Jean says as she enters the room. "She needs to settle in. I'm sure she is exhausted from being on the run. As much as we all want to know what's happening, it should be between the Professor and Gambit and Rogue."

"Well I am glad you two are fine and safe now. I do hope you didn't have any run ins with more Sentinels before Trask was put away." The Professor smiles at the two southerners in front of his desk.

"Actually…" Rogue looks away, remembering the time she froze up.

Remy noticed her hesitation. "We ran int' one in Lafayette, but we got away."

"Thank you for taking care of Rogue, Gambit. We were all worried, though we did have a bit of help from a woman named Irene."

Rogue snaps her head up. "Irene helped ya?"

"By only providing information that would help us, yes. She actually found the others before they found me." The Professor nods.

"Is she…?" Rogue looks at Xavier.

"She's fine and back home. Now, I'm sure you would like to settle in too, Rogue. Is there anything else you would like to discuss?"

"Actually," Remy speaks up, Rogue looking at him. "I would like t' join de X-men."

Charles smiles. "I see no problem why you can't. Though, I am sure it will take the others some time, but welcome to the X-men, Gambit."

The Professor extends his hand out to the Cajun, Remy shaking it, offering a smile to Rogue then looks back to the Professor. "Call me Remy."

The two exit the office, Rogue smiling up at Remy. "Are ya sure ya want ta join, swamp rat?"

"Course, chère. Like I said before, not gon' leave y'." Remy gives her a smile back.

Rogue goes to her room, Remy following her. She opens the door and turns on the light, her eyes looking around like it was the first time getting her room. Remy follows her and watches her, knowing it must have been weird to be back in her original room after some time. Remy smiles and sits on her bed, making himself comfortable. "I could get used t' sleepin' heah." He says.

Rogue looks at him, noticing he was on her bed. "Logan maght not lahke ya on mah bed, Cajun."

She placed her bag down then put her hands on her hips, a small smile on her lips. Remy sits forward a bit, a slight smirk on his lips as he pulls her forward by her waist. "I don' care. Can always sneak in 'n out."

Rogue's hands went to his shoulders to balance herself. He puts a hand on her cheek to bring her face down to his. Rogue starts to close her eyes but jumps when Kitty phases through her door. "Hey Rogue! Oh…" Kitty halts when she notices the two.

Rogue's cheeks deepen. "Kitty! Ya couldn't knock!"

"Whoops." Kitty chuckles. "So are you two…?"

Remy puts his hands on the bed as he leans back and smirks a bit. "Are we what?"

"Are you two, like, together?" Kitty gushes.

"Yes.." Rogue looks away blushing, her arms folded on her chest.

"Wait so does this mean, like, Gambit's staying with us?"

"Oui, jus' joined t'day." Remy nods.

"Rogue, I got like so many questions for you." Kitty grins.

Rogue sighs. "Can't this wait till tomorrow?"

"Fiiine, but you can tell me at school." Kitty starts to walk out of the bedroom, then looks over her shoulder at the two. "Night Rogue. Oh and you might want to leave soon, Gambit, or Logan will come after you."

Remy grins. "'D like t' see 'im try."

Kitty phases out of the room, Rogue letting out a sigh. Remy just chuckles as he looks at his girlfriend. "Ya should probably check out yoah room, shugah." Rogue says as she looks at him.

"But I like dis one." Remy gives her a pout, to which she chuckles. "'Sides, I don' gotta go right now."

A knock came at the door, Rogue opening it to find Logan standing there. "Settling in stripes?" He asks, then he noticed Remy sitting on her bed. "What's Gumbo still doin' here?"

"Guess de Professor didn' announce yet," Remy says getting up. "Jus' joined de X-men."

Logan growls. "Great…" Then he looks to Rogue. "Get to bed, Rogue, you go back to school tomorrow morning. Luckily you won't be penalized for missing anything. And you, Gambit, should get to your room. I won't ask nicely a second time."

Remy shrugs, grabbing his bag, then grins a bit and places a kiss on Rogue quickly. "Sweet dreams, chère." He winks then goes to his room which was two doors down the hall.

Rogue smiles then looks at Logan who was not looking happy. "What?" She asks.

"Are you two…"

"Yes! Now please lemme go ta sleep." Rogue closes her door before she could get a lecture from Logan.

Logan stood there, then shook his head and walked off to his room. Rogue sighs, going into her bathroom and getting ready for bed. She slowly makes her way to her bed, a little hesitant to get in. Finally, after settling in and reading a book for a while, Rogue closes it and falls asleep, feeling a bit uneasy. She tossed and turned in her bed, knowing something was missing.

Remy laid awake in his bed, looking at his ceiling as he couldn't fall asleep himself. He was happy with his decision to stay and join the X-men, but knew something was missing as he laid in his own bed and that was Rogue.

Remy sits up as he sensed Rogue was having trouble sleeping just like him. He sneaks out of his room and into hers quietly, going unseen or unheard. Rogue felt her bed dip, opening her eyes only to be met with red on black ones. "What are ya doin' in heah?" She whispers.

"Couldn' sleep, looks like y' can't either." Remy whispers back.

Rogue gives him a smile, scooting over very slightly in her bed to make a little room for him. Remy lays down, his arms instantly wrapping around her body go pull her towards him. Rogue lets out a sigh in content as she settles against him, falling right to sleep. Remy smiles into her hair as he placed a light kiss and fell asleep with her.

Rogue's alarm clock goes off at 6:30 am, waking her up right away in a shock, but also accidentally waking up a groggy Remy, who then puts a pillow over his head to go back to sleep. Rogue curses at her alarm clock and shuts it off, rubbing the sleep out of her eyes. She gets up and out of her bed, dreading the day back to school in a long while, and walks over to her wardrobe. Remy lifts up the pillow, noticing she was getting dressed for school. Rogue had put on a pair of ripped jeans and a purple top, then walks over to Remy once she was all dressed. "Ah gotta go ta school. Ah'll see ya aftah." Rogue says softly.

"Have fun, chère." Remy says in a bit of a sleepy voice with a smirk.

Rogue sticks out her tongue to which he lets out a low chuckle. She then places a kiss on his lips quickly before heading downstairs for breakfast. Kitty motions Rogue to join her for breakfast, to which the goth grabs some orange juice and a bagel. "How'd you sleep?" Kitty asks.

"Ah think okay? It's gonna take meh a while ta get back inta a school routine." Rogue rubs her face a bit.

"Well, at least most of the school year has gone by. Oh, also, Jean says she can drive us to school in her new minivan!" Kitty smiles. "Oh! And what's even better is Jean and Scott are, like, totally dating."

"When did that happen?" Rogue asks then takes a bite of her bagel.

"So, like, Scott went to go pick up his brother from a surfing competition down in, like, Mexico I think but it turned out to be a trap set by Mystique and Jean, like, totally had a bad feeling and so she and the Professor, Hank and Storm went to, like, go find him. Long story short, Jean finds Scott and kicks Mystique's ass and now they're, like, totally together." Kitty explains, a wide smile on her lips.

Rogue blinks, then sips her drink. She glances to the clock, noticing the time as everyone was finishing up. "We should get goin'." She says she finished up.

The two get into Jean's car, Kurt tagging along with them by teleporting into the car. "Vat do you think about going back to school, Rogue?" Kurt asks his sister with a grin.

"Terrible, but it's fahne ah guess… ah won't know until ah get there. Ah did miss the rest of last yeah and most of this yeah…" Rogue shrugs, then looks out the window and thinks of Remy but then remembers Jean is in the car.

They get to the school, Rogue getting out of the car and takes a deep breath. She heads towards the school, heading to Principle Kelly's office. The Professor has taken care of Rogue's absence, coming up with an excuse for her, but now that she is back she gets a schedule for her classes and heads out of the office.

Her school day was boring to her, but she took notes and even finished a majority of her homework already. When her last class ends, she happily gets up from her seat and heads out to the main area of the school. "Rogue!" Risty's voice behind her greeted. "You're back!"

Rogue turns in surprise. "Risty!"

"Your friends said you were on a trip. Where'd ya go?" Risty asks, a sweet smile on her lips.

"Oh, um, around the states. Last tahme ah was heah, you weren't. What happened?" Rogue asks back.

"Stuck in London. My parents didn't want me to come back with all the… fuss happening." Risty explains, letting out a sigh. "We should hang out today!"

Rogue stops on the sidewalk, turning to look at her friend. "Oh, well ah gotta catch up on some things…"

"Oh, come on! It'll be fuuun! Plus, you never know who's gonna be there~" Risty smiles, holding onto Rogue's arm.

Rogue hears a motorcycle coming down the parking lot, looking over to see Remy pull up wearing a pair of ripped jeans, a black t-shirt and his trench coat over it. Rogue smiles as he smiles at her and nods. Risty looks at Remy, eyes narrowing a bit then looks at Rogue, noticing the smile. "Who's that?" Risty asks.

"Huh?" Rogue snaps her head back to Risty, a light shade of pink brushing across her cheeks. "Um… that's ma.. boyfriend."

"WHAT?! When did that happen?!" Risty's eyes widen.

"Ah'll tell ya latah. Ah gotta go."

Rogue dismisses herself and goes over to Remy who was waiting for her.

Risty narrows her eyes again, Remy smiling at Rogue as she settles herself behind him. His eyes catch Risty looking over, but noticed the look on her face. He ignores it and tears out of the parking lot. Rogue felt a lot of eyes went on her, but she didn't care, she was just glad the school day was over with. Scott had watched Rogue get on Remy's motorcycle-so did some of the other X-men, but the Brotherhood also witnessed too. "Hey man, was that Rogue getting on one of Magneto's Acolytes motorcycle?" Toad asks.

"I think it was." Lance says, blinking. "Wonder what he's up to."

"Last I heard, he was sent to rescue Rogue. Looks like the thief fell for an X-man." Pietro raised a brow.

"Yeah but has he been back to your fathers base?" Lance asks.

"Nope. Father hasn't seen him since he left for that mission. Makes me wonder if he also joined the X-men." Pietro narrows his eyes.

"You don't think…?" Fred starts, rubbing his head.

"What? That Gambit is hooking up with Rogue? Please, can't even touch the girl without going unconscious. I doubt Miss Untouchable would go for him." Lance rolls his eyes as he crosses his arms.

"I don't know, seems like she was happy to be getting on his motorcycle." Toad rubs his chin.

Lance spots Kitty from the corner of his eye, telling his friends he'll be back. "Hey Kitty!"

"Oh, hey Lance." Kitty beams.

"So, I got something to ask you." Lance starts. "Is Rogue dating Gambit?"

Kitty bites her lip. "Um… well…"

"C'mon, you can tell me, as your boyfriend." Lance smiles.

"Yes! They're totally dating. But, like, I'm so happy for Rogue for finding happiness, especially after the whole getting captured by Trask thing that happened." Kitty blurts.

"Wow… Aright, thanks Kitty." Lance kisses her cheek then runs back to his jeep where his friends were.

"Well?" Pietro asks, impatient.

"Kitty just told me that they're dating." Lance motions back to Kitty who was getting in Jean's car.

The brotherhood look at each other, then they start to drive away. Risty was still sulking under a tree, glaring where Rogue was, then she turns and walks off the campus, going into an alleyway and shapeshifting into Mystique. "What is she doing with Gambit?" She growls out, teeth clenched.

Scott barges into the house, finding Rogue sitting on the couch with a book in her hands and her back leaning against Remy's chest. He glares at the former Acolyte. "Rogue. What is he doing here?" Scott asks.

Jean comes in behind him, her arms crossed. Remy raises a brow. "I live heah now." He answers.

"Yeah, right." Scott makes a face.

"It's true, Scott. He asked the Professah last naght!" Rogue says defensively. "If ya'll got a problem with it, take it up with the Professah."

Remy smiles smugly as he puts his chin on top of her head, his eyes on Scott. Scott scowls, then walks out of the room. Jean lingers. "We just don't want to see you hurt, Rogue." Jean says.

Rogue slams her book shut, rubbing her temple. "We'll ya'll were fahne leavin' meh hurt in that lab. What makes this any different? At least Remy's been there fo' meh an' has nevah abandoned meh. Now leave us alone."

Jean leaves without saying a word, going off to find her angered boyfriend. Remy looks at Rogue and wraps his arms around her. "Does he always have a stick shoved up his ass?" He asks to lighten the mood.

Rogue lets out a soft chuckle. "Yes. He realleh pisses meh off at tahmes. It doesn't help that Miss Perfect is always on his side, too."

Remy thinks, then smirks. "Maybe I should jus' intentionally piss 'im off, see what he does."

"Pfft. Well, considerin' he isn't alreadeh happeh yoah heah, ah say it won't be that hard." Rogue smirks. "Just be careful, shugah."

"When am I not?"

Rogue rolls her eyes, but still smiles, settling back against his chest and goes back to reading her book while Remy plays with her hair lightly.

A/N: Well now everyone knows. Will Risty try to separate Rogue from Remy? Or will she find out who her friend really is? Will the stick up Scott's ass ever come out? I do not think so. Also, Remy is gonna find it easy settling into the X-men, but what happens when the other Acolytes find out? Until next time!
