Chapter 17

The Olympic summit

Sigrun woke early the next morning, she had showered and was dressed in a violent business suit. The Fallen Angels were the first to join Asgard in peace and today Olympus would be next. Odin's plan for peace will continue. Everything was well until she met up with Rossweisse outside her quarters and shared what Thor said to Heracles and Eris. Of course, the silver-haired genius was not too pleasant to hear about it.

"Why didn't you stop him? I told him not to tell anyone about his affiliation with the Church. Now everyone will know and the Exorcists will try taking him back."

"No, they won't. He isn't their property, he's the Allfather's son. Besides, Thor is strong and his powers will continue to grow. The death of the Original Thor couldn't be kept hidden forever, even if word spreads what problem will arise from it? Jotunheim will never attempt an invasion on Asgard ever again, especially with how much they've lost, and Muspelheim is sealed off from the Bifrost."

"But-"

"And he has the best bodyguard to protect him. While I dislike Odin's treatment of you, he still chose you not because you are the granddaughter of Gondul, but because you are a master of magic and a genius."

The Valkyrie genius felt the corner of her lips twitch. Every time she began to worry, Sigrun would always find a way to calm her nerves and, just like now, boost her confidence. Rossweisse truly was grateful to Sigrun, if it wasn't for the Emerald Valkyrie she wouldn't be where she is now.

At that moment there came the sound of the loud ringing of a bell at the top of the mountain.

"It is the warning bell signaling the peace talks will begin soon." Said Sigrun, "Come, let's find Thor and make our way to the talks."

It didn't take long to find the God of Thunder, for wherever he went Heracles and Eris would be with him. Rossweisse noticed Sigrun wasn't pleased about this. The Emerald Valkyrie shared her suspicion about the attack and Heracles' arrival the night before to Rossweisse and she too felt it was odd. Since that talk, they had decided to be on guard during the talks and keep an eye on Heracles.

Thor was wearing his teal blazer, a white dress shirt, gray trousers, and black dress shoes. Eris and Heracles still wore the same outfits since meeting them.

Do they ever wash them, Sigrun wondered. She noticed Rossweisse glancing towards Thor. Smirking, she leaned forward and whispered into her friend's ear, "He chose teal because it reminds him of your eyes."

Although flustered at this news, Rossweisse couldn't hide her happiness that Thor wore that shirt to remind himself of her.

"Hello, Valkyries!" Eris greeted, "Ready for the talks? Many Gods and Goddesses have turned up during the night and before dawn. Many wish to see peace made between our Factions."

"Or give their opinion why we should not." Added Thor with a shake of the head, "I heard Zeus telling Poseidon that Nyx and Erebus came in the night to say they will not take part in talks."

Sigrun sighed, That isn't a surprise. Not all the Gods will agree to this. Just like Grigori. At least they are more civilized.

As soon as she said that another ring echoed from the mountain, it was time for the talks to begin. Thor, Eris, Heracles, and the Valkyries made their way to where it would take place. As they traversed the halls, the other Valkyries could be seen patrolling the kingdom. It was clear after the ambush yesterday that Brynhildr was ensuring no surprises would happen again. If anything did occur, they would stop it.

Sigrun looked around in amazement. They were in an enormous room with no roof or windows, allowing a cool breeze to sweet through. Giant columns stood tall outside of the round table where many Gods and Goddesses sat, some silent, others chatting. At the head of the table, she saw Brynhildr speaking to Hera. Whatever it was she couldn't hear but Hera was nodding to whatever her godmother was telling the Queen of the Gods.

When Thor stepped in, all eyes turned to him. Some smiled while others looked on in awe. He recognized Hera, Hermes, Aphrodite, and Poseidon but not the other Gods.

His question to know who they were was answered by Zeus who approached the young God with his usual jolly smile and led him around the table. Starting from the nearest to them was a tall muscular man with hair so bright it shone like the sun. This was Apollo, God of the Sun, and heir to the Throne of Olympus when it was Zeus' time to retire.

Beside him sat another blonde, a slender woman in her earlier twenties with sharp green eyes and dressed in hunting gear. It seemed Sigrun recognized the girl because Thor heard her say, "Artemis! You are here instead of hunting?"

The Goddess of Archery smiled at the warrior, "Hunting and archy are not what I do all day, Lady Sigrun. I help take care of the orphanage. I am a Goddess of Orphans too. I came here to see the children after the talks. If we become allies I would very much like to see the children of Asgard."

"And you are more than welcome to my child." Said Zeus before introducing the next member who sat next to Poseidon.

It was a woman with long bright red hair, with a very toned figure, and dressed in an elegant orange dress with a sword at her side. She was the wisest of all the Gods, Athena. Her brother, Ares, said he would not come stating it would be boring. After Athena was Demeter, then Desponia, Eunomia, Persephone, Hestia, and finally Dionysus.

Thor learned Heracles was not the only Hero here, a whole company of heroes came for the talks and they were wearing Greek armor from the different centuries. Sitting together talking were the greatest heroes of the Trojan War; Achilles and Hector, who put aside their ancestors' rivalry for friendship. As well as Jason with his Argonauts who he saw standing guard outside the room.

"Where are Hephaestus and Hades? Why are they not here?" Asked Eris as she sat beside Achilles and Hector.

"Hephaestus is staying in his workshop but supports peace. He also wishes to speak with young Thor, if he has the time." Answered Poseidon, "As for Hades...you should know him by now Eris."

"He is Lord of Cocytus isn't he?" Thor whispered to Artemis.

"Correct. He's also one of the Top Ten Strongest. Uncle Hades can't leave the Underworld due to his responsibility as its ruler so he must either send one of his grim reapers or attend via hologram. Guess he didn't like the idea of Mythologies working together."

"Still, he could attend via hologram. Why does he not attend?" Athena asked.

"He chose not to attend because he doesn't agree to a united peace. He didn't even send a representative from Cocytus." Said Zeus shaking his head.

"Come now, my love. Let us not debate about your brother. This is a talk for unification between Asgard and Olympus." Hera said with a reassuring smile.

Zeus returned her smile with his own, if it wasn't for Hera Olympus wouldn't be what it is today.

Drawing himself to his full height he began to speak, "My brother, my wife, my sons, and daughters. We are gathered today to speak of unification between Olympus and Asgard. While Odin himself is not here he has sent those he trusts as representatives. One of those is his son whom we thought dead; Thor, God of Thunder and Prince of Asgard!" He paused to let Thor speak but when the young God only waved the king continued, "We are here to discuss what the conditions will be agreed upon and what trouble will break this friendship?"

The first to speak was Brynhildr, "Thank you for allowing us to meet once more, Lord Zeus. While the king and queen are unavailable to attend they have given me the information regarding the terms of our alliance."

The Valkyrie commander summoned a large fold holding documents and handing them out to each God and Hero. When Thor received his own he read it thoroughly. Culture exchanging, providing assistance when needed, permission to travel through friendly territory.

Hmm, so far this seems good. At least Odin didn't throw any of his perverted ideas into the terms. Maybe Freya spoke him out of doing it.

From the corner of his eye, he saw Achilles clear his throat and speak. "The terms that Asgard has given us are sound. We have always allowed the Aesir to pass through our lands. If they will provide assistance then now is the time that we may call upon them for we need it now."

"I agree." Said Jason, "while we have been maintaining peace throughout Greece. We need allies to help quell what is happening. I am here to also represent those who still follow the old ways. They have prayed to Hera for guidance, to Athena for wisdom, and to Zeus for protection. Yet you have not answered them. It is up to us heroes to defend humans from danger and while we do our best we cannot stop all that is happening. The Einherjar or Valkyries from Asgard can lend us support."

"The Einherjar cannot leave Asgard unless Lord Odin or Lady Freya allow it. The Einherjar with us was allowed so by the queen. As for the Valkyries, we have our own responsibility to protect Asgard and Vanaheim. However, I'm sure Odin will allow a squad." Said Brynhildr.

"Where is Andreas?" Aphrodite asked.

"He went to Hephaestus to acquire armor and weapons to help protect Olympus," Athena said.

"That boy is devoted to Hellenistic religion." Poseidon chuckled, "He's been exploring Olympus and helping Artemis with the children at the orphanage."

The Goddess of Archery smiled fondly, "Yes, he has been of great help to us. It is a shame he is an Einherjar. He would have made a great servant to Olympus."

"You say he went to help protect Olympus, Athena? I told him Olympus is safe. We cannot be harmed." Zeus reassured.

"And yet an attack happened right outside your kingdom." Jason retorted coldly, "The people of Greece are being harmed and so has Odin's son. Why haven't the Gods come to help like in the old days? Why do the Hero's take up the mantle of protectors when you have the power to quell it within seconds?"

"Because we choose to stand up for humanity." Hercules answered sternly, "we are the ones who prove we are capable of defeating monsters...and Gods."

The sideways glance he sent at Zeus made Sigrun uneasy.

"Heracles is right, Jason. It is our duty as humans, as heroes, to be the shield to protect humanity." Hector said, "I stand with Achilles on asking aid from Asgard if it can be lent."

"What sort of troubles are you having?" Thor asked, unable to keep his curiosity under control.

A silence fell onto the room at those words. Nobody spoke but it was clear this topic seemed uncomfortable to Zeus.

Rossweisse cleared his throat loudly, "Why don't we talk about sharing our cultures next?"

So the talks went on, discussion about their cultures, what each king was willing to share, and how to prompt peace to the other Mythologies. Yet during all this Thor kept thinking about what Jason had said about Greece being attacked. Who or what was causing chaos in Greece? Could it be more unruly monsters or was it something else? The look on Zeus' face said he must know something about this and if so why did he not say anything about it?

What was the King of Olympus hiding?

After finishing the topic on if any of the Olympians would like to be an exchange student to Valhalla, Jason spoke once more.

"If we have all the terms and ideas planned out can we get back to the attacks? You obviously know something, Zeus, I can tell by your eyes. You wanna say something but are hesitant to do it. So care to share what you have known and kept hidden from the rest of us?"

"I'd like to know what this trouble is that Jason speaks of. Why has this news just now been told to us?" Demeter questioned.

The Gods and Heroes turned their gaze towards Zeus and Hera, the former looking hesitant to speak. An uncomfortable silence filled the room as they waited for what the king would say. Finally, after exchanging looks with his wife, Zeus spoke.

"There have… been troubling rumors of an organization attacking Mythologies around the world. We first heard of it occurring in China and then Eastern Europe. We did not feel concerned about this issue since it was far away from us. Then about a month ago Hermes brings word that the people of Greece are being targeted by monsters."

"And it's not just the type of Greek monsters like Minotaurs, Hydras, and Cyclops'. But strange ones we've never seen before. The strangest thing is that-"

Just then the bell rang and Dionysus leaped to his feet. "Alright! Lunchtime! I've been dying to have some wine! Come, Jason, let me cool your anger with my wine. You may join us as well, Valkyries."

"Thanks for the offer but I must decline," Rossweisse said, noticing the God of Wine's quick scan of her body after rising from her chair. Drinking alcohol was bad enough for her but being around someone who drinks wine every day was worse.

"I too must decline. I need to see my Argonauts."

Ignoring the sighs from Dionysus, the Valkyrie addressed Thor, "I would advise seeing Hephaestus now before the talks resume."

"I can show him where it is." Said Eris.

"Lead the way."

So the God of Thunder followed the Goddess of Chaos out the room back into the hallways of Olympus.

"So do you think this peace will work?" Asked Thor.

"That depends on who you ask. Some may agree, others may not."

"And you?"

"Me? Well, as long as I get to cause a bit of chaos I see no trouble." Giggled Eris, "You know you never told me what your father is like."

"A pervert," Thor said dully.

"Oh…"

"Yeah… he always talks about women. How they are shaped, measuring their bust, and sometimes taking a peek under skirts. It doesn't help that Freya is ok with it. As long as he just looks."

"So Odin is a pervert but he's loyal to Freya? At least he's loyal and doesn't keep secrets…"

"What was that?"

"Nothing. We're almost there."

Indeed they were, down a flight of stairs, through a hallway, and another flight of stairs they started hearing the pounding of a hammer. Thor noticed it was getting hotter, reminding him of the Dwarves' forges in Nidavellir. At last, they reached a large open-air workshop covered in weapons, armor, tools, and many other assortments. Working at the forge was a man twice as Thor's height and covered in muscles that ran with sweat. He was bald which also ran with sweat meaning no hair could cover his vision while working. He wore sandals and brown trousers, his upper body had nothing save a simple apron to keep him safe.

No doubt to Thor that this was Hephaestus, God of Smiths.

As soon as Hephaestus heard the footsteps he glanced over his shoulder briefly before continuing his work.

"Are you-" Thor started.

"Half a minute if you please." Shouted the smith. As soon as he finished hammering he took whatever he was working on and set it aside. Dusting his blackened hands on his apron. "Well if it isn't little Eris. How nice to see you again. I hope you're not causing any chaos while those Asgardians are visiting."

"Noooo." Said Eris innocently, the twitch of her lips said otherwise.

"Oh yes, you have. I heard you tricked the God of Thunder to enter the bathhouse the women were in. Speaking of Thor," he turned his gaze towards Thor who had to crane his neck to look up at him, "You must be him. I am Hephaestus, the greatest Smith of all the Gods. When something is broken or needs to be made, they come to me. For I can do anything."

"Is that so? Your building skills would be quite the boon to rebuilding Asgard." Said Thor, "Poseidon said you wanted to see me."

Hephaestus nodded, "I heard you carry a powerful weapon. The hammer Mjolnir, forged by the Dwarves. I would like to take a look at it."

"Uhm...about that…you see…"

So Thor recounted his trouble with the hammer and his need to rely on the axe used before the hammer.

"I see. I see." Said Hephaestus when the tale was finished, "yet that too was made by Dwarves no? May I see it?"

Thor obliged and presented Jarnbjorn to Hephaestus. So big was the Smith he could hold it with one hand. He hummed with interest as he inspected the weapon.

"A fine weapon. A very fine weapon." He said after the axe split a test dummy in two, "The Dwarves truly are master builders. I would be honored to work with them."

"Then if we join forces I'm sure they will greatly accept your help in rebuilding the forges of Nidavellir or even Asgard. Which reminds me I-"

His next words were interrupted by the bell. Lunch had finished and the talks would continue.

"You can tell me after the meeting. If you don't mind, I'd like to examine Jarnbjorn."

"Certainly. I will return when the talks are over. Come Eris lets-"

He paused, Eris was gone. She must have returned to the talks without him noticing. He said goodbye to Hephaestus and hurried back to the meeting room.

Elsewhere

Rota floated high in the sky looking down upon Olympus with sharp eyes. Of all the Valkyries she has the keenest sight making her the best option to patrol the higher levels on Olympus. Since before dawn, she and her fellow sisters in arms have been on patrol. Like yesterday nothing out of the ordinary happened. This was good but it left a nasty feeling in her stomach.

Why was that? What was she worrying about? Nobody would be foolish enough to attack Olympus? She looked down upon the plaza she was floating over. Despite the servants attending to plants and building cleaning there seems to be an eerie silence about the place.

Not just here but the entire kingdom, as if the mountain itself was holding in a deep breath waiting for someone or something.

Shaking her head of the worries, she turned to prepare her next search for something. Shading her vision with her hand, she saw what appeared to be a servant girl making her way to the center of the plaza and she looked rather suspicious doing so. Feeling a sense of danger she rushed the servant to stop whatever she was planning but too late! Noticing her approaching rapidly the servant girl threw her hands to the floor and beneath her appeared a giant green magic circle, a teleportation circle to be exact, and from it came a cloud of purple mist. It seeped into the plaza, startling the other servants who were there and causing many to back away in fear, but not Rota, she was a Valkyrie, a warrior who did not fear the unknown.

Drawing her sword she cried, "Run! Get away from here! Warn the others!" And tackled the servant who performed the teleportation spell. Whoever she was, this act would not go unpunished.

"By Lord Hades! What is that!?"

Slowly Rota glanced back and saw what appeared to be a row of rock men or golems marching out, supported by Minotaurs, Chimeras, Cyclops, and by the sound of the growl and shape behind them, a Hydra.

Rota felt her heart drop into her stomach. Andrew's fears had come true. Olympus was under attacked!

And there we have it, folks! The Attack on Olympus has begun. Now we've all read the novels and seen the anime so it's no surprise to everyone on who it is that's attacking Olympus. The question is why? What reason do they wanna destroy it? That will be revealed in the next chapter. The Battle for Mount Olympus.
