Lightz: Welcome to another new chapter... I say that like something new happens, but it doesn't. This is just Yusei's duel with Kiryu, shortened. Since you've seen what happened in their duel, there's no need for 4k words of writing. But, there IS something new in here that didn't happen around that time.
Chapter 6 – Team Satisfaction's Last Duel; The Savior Star
Yusei drives further down the dilapidated road as he makes his way to the control tower of the giant. While making his way, his friends follow after. Luca sits up, asking, "Yusei, are you sure you're ready to face Kiryu?"
"Yeah…" Yusei remains determined.
"But he said he wants revenge. Why does he think that?" Lua asks curiously.
"Now, now, let's not get involved with his past. It's probably personal," Ushio tells them.
Taking a minute to think about it, Yusei decides. "No, it's okay… Kiryu and I…"
During the drive, Yusei tells his story. As he gets closer, he notices something blue up ahead. Kiryu sits aboard his D-Wheel before the entrance of the tower. Ushio takes the kids to a higher road to watch, hoping to better avoid the track that would form eventually.
"Here you come, Yusei…" He slams his helmet on and drives forward at full speed to meet him, the two stopping short to cross slide into a stop. "About time you showed up! It's time for Team Satisfaction's last duel, the one we never realized back then!"
Silent for a moment, Yusei asks, "Where's Crow?"
"Oh, Crow? Let's just say he decided to try and cut the party short. So I retired him early." Kiryu laughs after telling, angering his former teammate.
"Kiryu…"
"Now, let's begin!" He throws his cloak off before his mark glows, summoning the flaming geoglyph.
"This time I'll send you hurtling into the afterlife with the power of my Earthbound God!"
Yusei contains himself. 'Kiryu, I can't believe you changed this much. You used to care about us, about your friends.'
Speed World activates on their D-Wheels, before they shout, "Riding Duel, Acceleration!"
Kiryu Kyousuke: 4000
Yusei Fudo: 4000
The two drive ahead down the flaming path. "The one who takes the first corner gets to decide who gets the first turn."
Yusei speeds up to try and get first, only for Kiryu to knock him into the flames. As he burns, Kiryu turns the corner first giving him the win. He draws his card and summons Infernity Necromancer. With a facedown thrown down, he ends his turn.
"Your move, Yusei. Time to see how traitors like you go."
Yusei draws his card, though as he does, he remembers how this all began. Taking a minute to put that aside, he summons Max Warrior, a brown warrior monster wielding a two-pronged staff.
"Max Warrior's effect; he gains 400 atk when he attacks!" Max Warrior rapidly jabs at Necromancer.
Elsewhere…
"Where is Rex?"
"He left a few moments ago."
"Then we shall put our faith into them. This is the culmination of the page of destiny those two brothers helped change nearly twenty years ago."
With the duel underway, let's take a minute to look elsewhere. Two armored transport helicopters can be seen heading toward Satellite. Both land together at an opening once they've reached the area. There, armored soldiers dismount, securing the area. Once that's done, he steps out.
Rex Goodwin comes out of the first helicopter, his hands behind his back as is wont of him. He pulls out a remote and presses a button on it, causing an entrance to rise from the dirt.
In awe, the soldiers watch as it emerges, until it stops. Goodwin turns around, saying, "Captain, this will be good enough. You may return to Neo Domino City."
"With all due respect, sir, Neo Domino City is currently dealing with a bizarre phenomenon unlike any it has in the past. And you seem to be the only person who knows what's happening. Our duty is to keep you safe, even if it means our lives, Director."
"I see…" His eyes trail down to the assault rifles they possess. "However, those won't exactly work against the person we are about to see."
Later in the Duel…
"One Hundred Eye Dragon, attack Speed Warrior!" Kiryu's dragon opens its mouth preparing to fire.
"Dead Gardna's effect! It changes an attack target to himself!" Yusei's monster moves right into position to block the attack.
"You and your damn tricks. One Hundred Eye Dragon's effect!" The Dark Synchro's eyes open up, revealing Infernity Dwarf. "It uses the power of Infernity Dwarf in my graveyard. When my hand is at 0, it deals piercing damage! Infinity Sight Stream!"
The purple energy blast eradicates the gardna, with the remaining damage hitting Yusei. He cries out as his lifepoints drop.
Yusei: 2900 (1)
"How's that, Yusei?! Didn't burn up enough? Cause I got more! Infernity Daemon, attack Spee-" He is about to make another attack until he notices his other monster has lost power. "What?! Why has his power dropped?"
"Dead Gardna's other effect; when destroyed by battle, another monster on the field loses 1000 attack points until the end phase!"
"Damn you… Turn end!"
Yusei draws for his turn. "I summon Junk Synchron!" After summoning his ace tuner, he tunes him with Speed Warrior.
"Clustering wishes will gather together to make a new force; become the path the light shines upon! Synchro Summon!" His two monsters come together to form one, becoming a splendid purple warrior with jetpack wings and an armored right arm. His red eyes shine as he punches the sky. "Come forth, Junk Warrior!"
Junk Warrior: 2300/1300 (5)
"Next up, Synchro Striker Unit!" His trap card opens up, revealing a rifle-like blaster that attaches to Junk Warrior. "This trap card becomes an Equip Card and raises the monster's attack power by 1000."
Junk Warrior: 3300
"Battle! Max Warrior, destroy Infernity Daemon!" His warrior moves in to strike until Kiryu's trap goes off.
"Don't knock my handless Combo! Infernity Force! While my hand is at 0 and you attack, I can destroy the attacking monster!" Daemon summons a barrier that blocks Max Warrior's attack and shatters him. "Then, I can special summon one level 4 or lower Infernity from my graveyard!"
Infernity Necromancer returns to the field. Gritting his teeth, Yusei focuses on his main target. "Junk Warrior, attack One Hundred Eye Dragon!"
Junk Warrior flips the switch, charging up the blaster. He then fires a yellow burst of energy at the undead dragon, destroying it. The shockwave rattles Kiryu.
Kiryu: 3700
Watching from afar since they lack a D-Wheel to showcase the duel, Ushio cheers at Yusei destroying the Dark Synchro.
Kiryu gives a dark smirk as he enters his deck, no longer worried about going through with his Handless Combo. "When One Hundred Eye Dragon is destroyed, I can take an Earthbound God and add it to my hand."
As Kiryu adds his card to his hand, Yusei realizes that once more this was his true intention. He even has the requirements ready. "I'll set two cards facedown and end my turn. Also, Synchro Striker Unit during the End Phase reduces Junk Warrior's attack power by 800."
At the conclusion of his turn, Kiryu reveals the card he pulled. "It's my turn now, Yusei…"
"Kiryu, wait… we have to talk about this…" Yusei speaks, hoping to talk to him. "Back then, Jack, Crow, and I really tried to save you!"
"If you wanted to help me, you wouldn't have betrayed me!"
"I didn't sell you out to Security-"
"THAT'S NOT WHAT I MEANT!" This gives him pause. "Why didn't you fight with me til the end?! Why did you give into Security's idiocy!?"
Kiryu's eyes become bleak, hollow even. "You said we were friends, that we were together to the end. But you left, just like Crow and Jack, and came back! Only to surrender! Because you assholes grew out of this!"
It's hard to tell, but it looks like he's crying. "You expected me to run, from Satellite? To WHERE?! FROM THE PEOPLE WHO PUT US THERE IN THE FIRST PLACE?!"
"Kiryu…"
"Do you know what happens to Satellite residents who oppose Security?" He laughs recalling his horrid memories. "The branding, the humiliation, the torment: that wasn't bad enough… they took my deck away from me!"
"Kiryu, we tried to visit you. But they wouldn't let us. And then the news about your death…"
"Yeah… I think that's when it happened. I heard the voice that gave me this power…"
'Thou who attempts at thy own life, dost thou have the faintest desire remaining in this world or dost thou not? Thou who dost, you shall become a Dark Signer and thy desires fulfilled.'
"That was the beginning of my revenge. And…" His eyes regain a bit of light. "I'm here now to make my revenge complete! I'll make you too go through the worst fears I've had to endure, all through my Earthbound God!"
After drawing, he immediately enters his Main Phase before releasing his two monsters. The heart of the Earthbound forms in the skies, which absorbs the souls within the smog. After enough collect, the heart transforms into the black and blue colossus that damaged Yusei's heart prior.
Ccapac Apu: 3000/2000 (10)
The dark monster roars as it rises, towering over everything. "Have another taste of fear from my Earthbound God! Ccapac Apu, direct attack!"
The giant reaches out to attack Yusei, its hand ready to squash him flat.
'This thing… it's connected to his fears… then I have to face it too. No more fear!' "War Hero's Command!" At the activation of his trap, Junk Warrior flies up to take the blow.
Yusei: 2400
"This trap designates one monster I control as your attack target."
"Shielding yourself with a monster, huh? Too bad for you." Ccapac Apu groans as it aims its hand. "When Ccapac Apu destroys a monster by battle, it deals damage equal to that monster's attack on the field!"
"Not so fast! Burst Synchro Summon!" Yusei's other trap opens, causing a barrier to appear. It absorbs the energy released by the giant, protecting him. "It reduces a single instance of effect damage to zero. And, it lets me Synchro Summon a Synchro Monster with an attack equal to it! Take Flight, Stardust Dragon!"
The barrier explodes, turning into light particles. That energy collects together to form his signature monster, Stardust Dragon.
Stardust: 2500/2000 (8)
"So here comes your ace monster. I'll set this and end my turn!"
As soon as Kiryu ends his turn, Yusei goes to draw for his. That is when the Dark Signer activates a trap card, Brilliant Shrine Art.
"This trap card forces any direct attack unto my Earthbound God!" Ccapac Apu glows violet as it is empowered by it.
Scuffing, Yusei realizes that it's all pointless unless he can power up Stardust to become stronger than Ccapac Apu. Continuing with his turn he plays Angel Baton to draw two and discard one, before reviving that card – Stardust Xiaolong.
Xiaolong: 100/100 (1)
"I'll set this card."
As Kiryu draws for his turn, Yusei responds just as he does by activating Isolated Guardian and equipping it to Stardust. "This trap card reduces any battle damage inflicted on me to zero unless it's with the equipped monster!"
"You and your damn tricks! Then I'll just crush your stardust." Ccapac Apu reaches out to smush Stardust.
"By sending this card to the graveyard, Stardust's destruction is negated!"
"Gotcha this time! Demon Trample!" Kiryu's continuous trap opens up. "Any battle damage outside of a direct attack is double!"
"What?!"
"A monster that isn't destroyed by battle can still pass on battle damage! Hit 'em harder, Ccapac Apu!" His monster reaches out and strikes Stardust.
Yusei: 1400
Though Yusei suffers damage, there's another incident caused. The ground breaks apart and becomes uneven, especially on the track where Kiryu is racing. He slides down, trying his best to avoid the flames.
"Kiryu!" Yusei shouts as he nears him, reaching his hand out. An act that touches the Dark Signer.
"Yusei…"
"I was stupid… I always thought I could save others by sacrificing myself. But that won't work. Only when comrades come together can we save one another. Their emotions!"
Elsewhere, the marks of all the Signers start glowing.
"Jack and Crow each share the same concerns. Even our new comrades are giving us support! This isn't a fight to defeat you and the others! This is to save you and the others from the Dark Signers!"
Those words touch Kiryu, unable to take his eyes off him. But… "Yusei… what point does it make now?" That's when the ground gives on his side, and he slides deep into the fire.
"KIRYU!"
At that moment, the marks from all four Signers are removed. They all cluster together with the Tail on Yusei's back. At that moment, the top of his deck glows. He draws from it, revealing a card that was never there before. "This is…"
Determined to put his hope in this card, he plays it. "I summon the Kyuseiryu – Savior Dragon!"
From up in the skies it appears, a majestic magenta dragon with angelic wings.
Savior Dragon: 0/0 (1) Tuner
"I will tune my level 8 Stardust Dragon and my level 1 Stardust Xiaolong with my level 1 Savior Dragon!"
As he prepares his Synchro Summon, his new dragon appears before Stardust and enlarges. The messiah draconis envelopes all of his monsters before turning them into stars. "The shine of clustering stars will illuminate a new miracle! Become the path its light shines upon! Synchro Summon!"
The majestic light appears around Yusei, enveloping himself and his D-Wheel before it becomes a brand-new monster. "Arrive in Light, Savior Star Dragon!"
Appearing around Yusei is the evolution of Stardust. Its head has become sleeker in design and it gains four identical wings that look just like the ones on the Savior Dragon. This white, light-blue, and purple dragon is also missing arms, only having cone-like legs and a long tail.
Savior Star Dragon: 3800/3000 (10)
The twins look in awe at the powerful monster.
"Savior Star Dragon will negate the effects of one monster on the field and gains it. I'll choose Ccapac Apu; Sublimation Drain!" Glittering stardust comes off of the earthbound, weakening it tremendously. That power enters the dragon. "Savior Star Dragon, attack Ccapac Apu! Shooting Blaster Sonic!"
Yusei's dragon flies straight forward, piercing the god like a shooting star through the night sky. A hole forms in the stomach of the evil deity, before it explodes into nothing. While still aboard, Yusei also has his dragon dive into the geoglyph and rescue Kiryu.
"Kiryu!" Yusei shouts as he holds his former friend in his arms. "I won't abandon a friend! I'm going to save you this time!"
"Yusei… you've won. That means I lose…" he struggles to say. "When you negated Ccapac Apu's effect, you also stole it, and it's a mandatory ignition. I take 3800 damage…"
He smirks a little, his eyes regaining their whiteness. "When I became a Dark Signer, I had one more wish. To play Team Satisfaction's last duel… no matter how much I hated you, I couldn't stay mad at you."
The geoglyph disappears in the background of their time together. "Talk about lame… I'm nowhere near satisfied…"
He vanishes, turning into dust as is his fate. Distraught, Yusei cries as his friend disappears from him once again. Landing, he dismounts his D-Wheel as Savior Star Dragon vanishes. "Kiryu… you were my friend. And for you… I won't let your death be in vain."
Elsewhere…
After the death of the Earthbound God, people slowly return from its stomach. That includes this particular character.
"Guh!" Crow opens his eyes and stands up, wondering what happened to him. He looks around rapidly before it comes to him.
"That's right… I was defeated by Kiryu. But if I'm alive, then…" He then looks up, smirking. "Yusei. You must have settled things with him after all."
With that in mind, he heads over to where he last left his D-Wheel.
Old Momentum…
Watching the candle once more, Rudger notes another light has gone out. "So, Kiryu has failed as well."
His eyes check a timer left by his side. "We're at the halfway point now… but, it looks like I will have to kill your son too, professor."
All of a sudden, the doors to his room burst open. Shortly, several armed soldiers flood the room, holding position with their guns trained on Rudger.
Into the room steps Rex Goodwin as the soldiers' sergeant declares the room secured.
The red Dark Signer smirks. "How good of you to come, Rex. I'd like to give my greetings, except what's with these uncouth friends of yours?"
As the soldiers wonder why he seems to know their Director, Rex says, "I wanted to come to see you, but they wanted to do their job."
He laughs at that. "But, for the somewhat complicated matter we have coming, it demands privacy."
Suddenly, one of the soldiers is taken away. He cries out in terror as he's dragged into darkness, before suddenly, silence. More of them start to disappear, some quickly noting that the cause is webbing shot at them from oversized spiders.
The last one standing is the sergeant, who eventually gets dragged up into the air. Pretty soon, it's silent; all that is left are these two brothers.
Rudger gets up from his seat and approaches his little brother. Rex simply says, "I made a promise, brother. I've lived to this very moment in order to keep it. My identity concealed, my future as Director of the Public Security Maintenance Bureau discarded… all for this moment."
"Ah, my dear little brother, Rex, there hasn't been a single moment where I haven't remembered that promise." He tosses his cloak away as he reveals his mechanical left arm. "Seventeen years ago, I opened Pandora's Box, and at the same time, entrusted you with the last hope of humanity, along with my left hand."
He touches his flesh, which twitches. "This body will give out soon, but before that, I will see this to its conclusion; the Signers guided by the Crimson Dragon or the Dark Signers guided by the God of the Underworld – who shall prevail?
"The account of seventeen years ago still lives on. The professor's will lives within his son, Yusei Fudo. Will he fall to darkness like his old man? Or will he take vengeance and defeat me? If you win, you'll have to see his fate for me." After that long speech, he activates his duel disk.
After listening quietly, Rex speaks. "Rudger, I have been thinking over the past seventeen years about the decision you made, and I have come to one conclusion. Instead of going through with how things can end, I have accepted a new possibility, one even you would not have seen coming."
He stretches his left arm out, causing his Duel Disk to expand. "You are about to bear witness to it."
Back to Action…
Over at the sight of the giant control tower, Yusei activates it using Stardust Dragon. Once it does, he pulls his card away and leaves. After the tower officially enters the earth, he realizes his role is over.
"Yusei!" Up at a higher railing, Lua, Luca, and Ushio await him.
He drives up to their location on the highway before dismounting. As he does, Luca points over when she notes something important. From a bright light, people appear out of nowhere.
"Who are they?" asks Ushio.
"I think they're the people that were devoured by the Earthbound Gods," says Luca with a smile.
"So, by defeating them, we actually do set them free!" Lua says, feeling relieved that Bomber's words were true.
Feeling that his words from before to Jack and the kids can come true now, Yusei is relieved as well. "Still, it's too easy to celebrate. We have to seal the other two towers. Which means it's all up to Jack and Aki."
At those thoughts, he becomes worried about Aki. Jack can care for himself, but Aki isn't the same woman who scared him and others. It's possible something might make her hesitate. He needs to make sure she's okay.
With that, Yusei goes to his D-Wheel ready to make his march. As he does, he spots a message appearing on his screen. Someone wants to contact him. Curious, he turns it on and spots him.
"Yusei! Looks like you did it."
"Crow?!" Yusei says with joy, his face turning into a smile. "Crow! You're alright!"
"Yeah. I just woke up a little bit ago. Where are you?"
"I'm over at…" He then pauses, thinking for a quick second. "Actually, Crow, can you go to Jack? He's heading to the northwest tower of the BAD area."
"Go to Jack?"
"I'm going to see Aki in the northeast. There are two control towers left and I want to ensure I don't need to worry about Jack."
Crow chuckles at that. "That sounds like you." He then signs off.
"Let's go."
Lightz: We hope you enjoyed that. Next up, Jack's duel. And then, part of Aki's episode. We also get a bit of Crow.
