Chapter 9 – The Truth of Seventeen Years Ago: The Final Dark Signer
Yusei falls on his head after getting blown back by Level Stealer's destruction. His life points drop down to 100, leaving him with little leg to stand on.
Rudger looms down on Yusei with laughter, or up with his position. He crosses his arms before setting one card, declaring his turn over. "Yusei… do you miss your father? Would you like to see him again? You will soon…"
Angered, Yusei pushes himself up before drawing for his turn. Looking at it, it's revealed to be a trap card. "Drawn a Trap Card, have we? Destiny Trigger activates! Because you drew a card matching the card type of the card sent to the graveyard upon its activation, your life points will be cut in half!"
The hand presses the button, releasing an explosion that sends Yusei back once more.
Yusei: 50
"Yusei!" The others shout out. Thankfully, their leader picks himself up before giving a look that can kill his opponent.
"This isn't good! Yusei's life isn't even at a full 100 anymore!" Lua says in fear.
"I still have life." He takes a look at one of the cards in his hand, before picking it up with the card he drew. "I'll set two cards facedown. Then, I shall banish Rush Warrior in my graveyard."
Rush Warrior ejects from the grave along with another card. "I can add Synchron Explorer to my hand, and then I'll summon it."
Synchron Explorer returns to the field. But instead of in attack mode, it takes a crouching position. Quick Synchron returns too, taking a knee as well. "With this, I end my turn."
Down below in one of the lower levels of Momentum, Jack can be seen looking around. The glow of his mark illuminates his path. "Damn it, I'm still lost."
He then notices the light from Momentum finally, and heads that way. "That must be it."
"Jack/Atlas-sama!" shouts two people following him. The former king spots Crow and Mikage making their way to him.
Back to the action, Yusei has just finished his turn. And Rudger, he's shaking his head in disapproval.
"How sad, Yusei. I would have thought you would put up more of a fight. But here you are on your last leg, just one attack away from defeat. And only so long before my plans are fulfilled. I guess tenacity runs in the family."
"I haven't lost yet! So go along with your turn!" While he is confident, his friends look on in worry.
"Don't rush to your end. Your life points are a candle lit in a rainstorm. I could use Arachne's effect to finish you off, but I did promise you some closure." Underworld Arachne snarls as she comes down closer to the bridge, allowing Rudger to dislodge himself. He flips right-side up, landing on the bridge and causing it to shake. "Since you've lasted this long, it's only fair you learn the truth."
At that, Yusei narrows his eyes. "It all started seventeen years ago. Your father Professor Fudo was the leading man in terms of quantum physics. And it was around that time that he discovered Planetary Particles."
"Planetary particles?" repeats the others, especially Aki noticing the spoken words 'planetary' match Yusei's name.
"The planetary particles, much like a planetary gear, bind particles together with other particles. He named his son after the project because he wanted you to be like a bond that binds others together with others. As it would turn out, planetary particles were essential to build Momentum. The professor developed his own theory and launched the development of a non-polluting energy mechanism that would be called Momentum. At the time, Rex and I were scientists who joined the project as his assistants. Your old man who talks about it like a bright-eyed child.
"Research and production were going well… until…"
Flashback…
While working on Momentum, things seem fine. But then, the spinning stops suddenly. As this comes with the building shaking, all three scientists stop what they're doing. And then, Momentum turns in the reverse direction.
"What the? It's spinning opposite?!" Rex realizes.
Rudger checks the equipment. Nothing seems out of the ordinary either.
"We didn't realize it at the time, but Momentum would randomly spin in the opposite direction. And every time that happened, the city would be struck by abnormal weather."
"I'm shutting this down," Fudo speaks to his assistants.
"Are you crazy?! After everything we've gone through?" Rex asks in shock.
"It's out of my hands. It can't be a coincidence that these abnormalities are happening at the same time as our experiments. I can't continue with this knowing my research is possibly causing damage to the city. If we keep going, it might be worse. So I'm shutting down until I can find the cause." These are the professor's words before he shuts down the lab.
Rudger can't let it go, however. So he does some extensive research.
"I did some looking, and I discovered something. There was at least one place in the world that was experiencing these abnormalities at the exact same time. So I took a trip to the Nazca Lines."
After a plane ride, Rudger arrives in the Nazca Plains. Driving around he learns a bit about the plains. Some say they were drawn by people long ago, others say they were warnings of aliens, and the rest believed them to be wicked demons sealed into the earth. None of that matters to Rudger, however.
"While there, I ended up coming across him… the mysterious man from Yliaster." This gets Yusei's attention.
"Dr. Rudger, it's a shame. All of that research going to waste."
Narrowing his eyes, Rudger questions, "How do you know of that?"
"But it is your wish to continue research. Correct?" He smirks, staring back at the sweating scientist. "And we agree with you. Momentum should continue, even if you should happen to get rid of Professor Fudo."
"Wha-What are you talking about?!"
"We of Yliaster believe that humanity should be driven to the correct path, and Momentum can lead the world to it. We believe you are the man to do that. After all, you've already been chosen by fate."
"What makes you say that?"
"It's just so curious, the red mark on your left arm."
That shocks him. Rudger pulls his sleeve, revealing the mark of the Dragon Head there. "What makes you think that? And how do you know of this? I've had this since I was born and had it hidden since!"
"And that is the mark of destiny. You can't run from fate."
A sandstorm blows throughout the field. Rudger shields his eyes as the man slowly disappears into the storm. "Wait! Just what are you saying?!"
"If you wish to learn the truth, look deep within the light of Momentum." Those are his last words before he's gone.
After that, Rudger returns to Japan. He stands before the still reactor. While looking at it, the machine makes a click of energy, before suddenly…
Light pours out from the Momentum Reactor, flowing straight for Rudger. He flinches as it nears him, before screaming out in pain when it pierces his eyes.
"From there, I learned the truth! The story about the wicked gods was true. Momentum was the key to restarting that battle! Once it does, the Crimson Dragon will return to the earth to slay them once more!"
After the light flashes before his eyes, a strange mark appears on Rudger. This mark takes the form of a spider. From it, purple veins spread through his arm to his head. As it reaches his eyes, they change to gain black sclera.
Flashback Pause…
The gang gasps in surprise at what they've learned. As it turns out, Yusei's father isn't fully responsible. Rudger and Rex really have worked with the professor as well.
Yusei, however, recalls one thing Rudger said that he goes back to; Rudger has the Dragon Head mark. Looking at his left arm, it's clearly mechanical. What's this about?
"After that, it was all a matter of accepting the role I had been given."
"… like my father?"
At that, Rudger smirks.
Flashback Resumes…
"No matter what you say, I'm not resuming operations!"
Fudo stands before the Momentum Reactor. The people in front of him are the executives of M.I.D.S., none of whom are okay with his decision.
"Professor Fudo, it is unthinkable for you to assume you can make that decision anymore. After all, you have been removed from M.I.D.S.."
"What?!"
"We of M.I.D.S. have installed a lot of faith and funding into this Momentum Project, and if you won't continue it, we will. We've already found your replacement."
"What fool could you get smart enough to understand this?" To his horror, he sees Rudger stepping forward, his hair showing the effects of his possession. "Rudger?! What is the meaning of this?!"
"Professor, you fear progress. Momentum can lead to a prosperous future. If you won't lead us there, then I shall do it in your steed."
"But I've already built controllers for the reactor! As long as they remain sealed, you can't-"
"By seal… do you mean these?" He then reveals the four Signer Dragons: Stardust Dragon, Red Daemon's Dragon, Black Rose Dragon, and Ancient Fairy Dragon.
Shocked, Fudo rushes forward and nabs the cards before making his escape. Lasers fire after him as he flees, one hitting a serious area and causing him to drop one of the cards. Rudger steps forward and picks up the card, Ancient Fairy Dragon.
A little while after, Rudger returns to the reactor, no one else around. With blood coming down the left of his body, his eyes gain a manic look of rage. "With this… I shall be reborn, as a DARK SIGNER!"
He slams his fist into the panel, breaking his fist through the glass and pushing the red button. This causes the reactor to switch on, spinning in the opposite direction. With all of this negative power being produced, eventually, the worst happens. It explodes.
Elsewhere in the nearby area, Fudo places his crying child into a transport capsule. Before the light could reach him, he sends the baby away.
The tectonic shift caused by Zero Reverse shakes all of Satellite, setting forth the future of many who would come to suffer.
Flashback Ends…
In conclusion, Yusei is finally ready to voice his rage. "So that's your goal?! To twiddle with the lives of millions of innocent people just so you can play god?!"
Lua, Luca, Ushio, and Aki all look on in silence.
"Oh Yusei, before I realized it, my life was already in the hands of fate. In the hands of gods. I simply accepted what fate had in store for me, and accepted my role as the servant of the wicked who would drag the world to darkness! My turn!" Rudger draws for his turn, stabbing his card into his hand. "And I still have much more to do. Underworld Arachne's effect activates! Once per turn, all of your monsters in defense mode are destroyed and their combined defense will be inflicted on your life points!"
Underworld Arachne laps at her fangs before sending threads at Quick and Explorer. "This is bad! Yusei will lose if he takes that!"
"I've been waiting for you to do this! Trap card open; Starlight Road!" he shouts as his trap opens up. A beam of light shoots out and pierces the Arachne. "It negates and destroys a card with an effect to destroy 2 or more cards on the field."
"What?!" Rudger looks up as his best monster is suddenly struck, each cell of her body turning to light. It then explodes, stardust glittering the field.
"Alright!" the others cheer, seeing Yusei get rid of that monster once and for all.
"Had that been an Earthbound, that wouldn't have worked. But your Dark Synchro has no protection." Yusei then gestures to the stardust collecting together. "The second effect; it allows me to Synchro Summon Stardust Dragon. Take Flight, Stardust!"
Stardust collects together, taking the form of the iconic dragon Yusei stars.
Stardust Dragon: 2500/2000 (8)
"So, you've arrived, Stardust. But, don't think you've got me. I shall summon Ground Spider in defense mode and end my turn." Rudger's next monster is a familiar one. After that, he simply ends his turn, as if undeterred about losing his best card.
Yusei draws for his turn before he notices something up in the air. It's the heart of the Earthbound. "That's…"
"Did you think you could get rid of Arachne and that would be the end of me?" Rudger laughs before pointing up above. "When Arachne is destroyed, on the very next Standby Phase, I can special summon my Earthbound God banished for Dark Tune Sacrifice while also sending your defending monsters to the graveyard."
Seeing it, Lua and Ushio go to Luca for protection. The souls inside the smog enter the heart before it explodes. Rudger laughs before summoning his Earthbound God. "Come forth, Earthbound God Uru!"
Up above, Uru emerges from the walls of the facility. It looms down upon Yusei, groaning. 'Damn it.'
As this happens, Uru releases threads to draw in Yusei's monsters. It then devours them, much to Yusei's disgust. 'Now that Uru's back, I have to be careful… but, there is a way to stop it.'
"And, Undercrown allows me to set a card facedown." As Rudger's card appears on the field, Yusei takes the card in his hand and sets it.
"Stardust Dragon, attack Ground Spider!" His dragon takes aim and fires a stream. It slices through Ground Spider, causing it to explode. Due to the effect of the field spell, his dragon is entangled by webbing and forced into protection. "I will end my turn with that."
"Still holding onto hope? You can't escape your fate. My turn!" Rudger draws for his turn.
"Trap card open; Shooting Star!" The card Yusei just set activates. "While Stardust Dragon is on the field, I can destroy one card on the field. And my target is your Spider Web!"
"Nice try, Yusei! Trap card, Nihility Hole!" Rudger's trap opens up, causing Yusei's trap to shatter. "This trap card negates a card effect that would destroy a Magic or Trap I control, at the cost of reducing the attack of a monster I control to zero."
Uru: 0
"I'll set this last card and end my turn. And, Uru's attack returns to it."
As Uru restores its power, Yusei draws for his turn. Rudger's cards can possibly stop him, though it's not like Stardust can attack. He needs to use this card. "I activate the magic card, Battle Waltz!"
A mirror forms beside Stardust, constructing an exact clone that's like in color. "This creates a Waltz Token based on a Synchro Monster I control, copying its attack, defense, Type, level, and Attribute!"
"Do not think you can beat me with two weak monsters! Also, Uru cannot be targeted for attacks!"
"My target is you! Go, Waltz Token!" His fake dragon flies in to attack.
That's when Rudger as if to mock him, activates his trap. "Roar of the Earthbound God. This continuous trap will destroy any monster that attacks while I control an Earthbound God and deal damage equal to its attack to the opponent." The trap empowers the wicked spider before it fires a stream at the token. "Looks like this is my win!"
"Not good!" Ushio says in shock.
"You think that'll stop me? Victim's Sanctuary!" Stardust Dragon takes the stream, turning into stardust as the trap shatters. "Stardust Dragon will release itself to negate your trap card and destroy it!"
"Keep going, Waltz Token!" The audience looks on with hope. If this goes through, Yusei wins. So into the duel, they don't even notice the arrival of more people down below.
"Not yet; trap open! Brilliant Shine Art!" With his new continuous trap, the token makes an upward U-turn for Uru. "With this, you must only attack Uru! And he has 3000 attack points!"
Yusei: 50
Rudger laughs. "With this, it's finally over! But don't fret, Yusei… we have opened a brilliant new page to history."
The token crashes into Uru, exploding into smoke. As the field is covered in it, Rudger smirks with confidence. But, as it quickly clears, the man notices nothing happened. Yusei is still standing. "What? Why haven't your life points-"
"That's what you call a feint; when the Waltz Token battles a monster, neither player takes battle damage, and the monster that destroys it loses attack equal to what it had."
Uru: 3000 – 500
As Rudger looks up at his weakened monster, Yusei continues: "Rudger! You talk about how destiny controls you and the world and let yourself be caught up in it, but you forget about the people who got caught up in your supposed destiny! What happened to the people who lost their lives because of your laser-guided selfishness!"
Silence fills the room at this moment. Yusei, his voice shaking, speaks, "That disaster you caused destroyed the lives of so many people, including me and my friends! If not for Zero Reverse, if not for Momentum, if not for the research you, Goodwin, and my father did, none of this would have happened. Me, Jack, Crow, Kiryu, Blitz, Nerve, Taka, Rally; all of us would be with our families leading normal happy lives! We wouldn't be orphans dealing with poverty, depression, and day-to-day despair! For days I would hear people cursing their misfortune, finding someone to blame, knowing that it was my father's fault!"
Tears fall from his eyes. "And yet, no one once blamed me for it when they should have! It was my father's research that caused it, and I felt horrible! Worthless! Thinking I deserved nothing unless I could make it up to them! But I can't!"
Everyone looks over to Yusei, his friends, and those changed by him overwhelmed by his grief, guilt, and sadness. "ANSWER ME! HOW DOES YOUR DESTINY ANSWER FOR THAT?!"
Having listened to him so far, Rudger asks, "Is that the darkness in your heart, Yusei?"
Aki steps forward, about to open her mouth. But then: "ALLOW ME TO ANSWER THAT, YUSEI!"
All parties look down below in the lower levels of the Momentum laboratory, where down below is the image of Jack Atlas staring up at them. His eyes determined yet understanding, he remains statuesque with Crow and Mikage behind him.
Seeing his friend, Yusei whispers, "Jack?"
"Yusei… for the longest I've wondered why you never tried to do more with your life. Why you were satisfied with staying the way you were… it all makes sense now…" It's a strange feeling; Jack's voice is rather commanding, but this time it's softer. "But let me tell you something; your father died before we were friends!"
All eyes look down upon the former King of Riding Duels. "I never blamed what happened to me on you, or even your father, because it doesn't matter! I wanted to be the King, and fell into my circumstances by myself! If you had anything to do with it, it would be from being there as that annoying little pest I called my friend!"
As he finishes, Aki takes a step forward.
"Yusei," she speaks, catching all eyes, "I can't say for sure if fate truly exists, because that would be accepting what happened to me as preordained. Maybe it was…"
Aki then grips her hand tightly, more determined with her voice. "But if I had to accept fate, it would be for meeting you!" The twins smile as she speaks. "Yusei, you have nothing to feel guilty for; if it weren't for you bringing us together, none of us would be better than what we were, or even alive. A man with a mark that I despised saved me and my relationship with my parents. If that isn't fate, then it doesn't exist."
Ushio listens in to both of them talking, before sighing in resignation. "They're right, Yusei. We're all better because of you."
"Guys…" Yusei whispers, before resuming the duel. He now has a better understanding of his life. "Rudger, you were wrong about fate. If you had let it control you, then you would have already won by now. Fate is not set in stone; it is what you make of it. And it'll be the last hope I have left on the field. Reverse card open! Stardust Flash!"
His final trap card opens up, and out of thin air, stardust gathers. "It special summons a Stardust Dragon from my graveyard!" These clustering wishes form into a familiar shape until Stardust Dragon is revived.
"Stardust Dragon is back!?"
"Go, Stardust Dragon! Shooting Sonic!" Star energy gathers in the maw of the white dragon before it fires dead center at Uru. The cosmic flare pierces the black spider through the facility ceiling until rising from the earth up above. It continues into the sky and then space, parting the black clouds surrounding Satellite. As it fades out, Uru groans in pain before exploding, the aftershock hitting Rudger hard enough to make him scream.
Rudger: 0000
He falls to his knees on the bridge as everyone cheers. Yusei is quiet, however, yet confident that it's over. "And now, it's finally over."
These hopes die when laughter echoes throughout the room. "Don't think that it's over yet. While we were having this little duel here, you failed to notice something important."
Rudger points up at the hole poking down at them, the rest of his body dissolving into wisps. Looking up, Yusei sees that the skies have turned black. The sun is down. "It's sunset!"
"You couldn't seal all of the control towers," he begins, detaching his duel disk and twisting his mechanical arm, "and even though I've lost, the last Dark Signer was born shortly before your arrival, allowing the King of the Underworld to rise!"
"The King of the Underworld?" Yusei repeats.
Seeing what Rudger is doing, and how his arm has a blinking red light, Aki activates her duel disk.
"Soon your world will fade into darkness, but you'll be gone long before that, YUSEI!" He rips the metal hand off, causing a massive detonation that destroys his already dying body.
The bridge explodes, taking away Yusei's footing faster than he can turn around to grasp the legs causing him to fall to Old Momentum's light below.
"YUSEI!" Everyone shouts seeing their hero fall to his death.
"YUSEI!" Vines shoot out and latch onto his arm still raised. The others and Yusei look to see Rose Tentacles having saved the Shooting Star of Satellite.
"Aki!" he shouts with relief as the monster catches him at the last second. His feet are barely touching the energy of the reactor. He looks down however to see Jack has run off to regroup. Also, there is Rudger's busted duel disk down below.
But as he hangs, the light from Momentum shines before shooting skyward. Everyone shields their eyes protecting themselves from the light.
Yusei opens his lids, finding himself in a location he didn't expect. Standing before him is someone he didn't expect either. "You are…"
A few seconds go by as the light of Momentum cuts off. Everyone opens their eyes, finding themselves back to normal. Aki spots to her surprise someone has fallen on top of her. It's Yusei.
Red in the face, she lifts him up before shaking him. "Y-Yusei!"
The others recover just in time to witness what's happening. The twins cry out his name, just as Yusei opens his eyes. He gasps as he comes to reality. "This is…"
"Yusei!" Aki smiles before letting him go. "Are you okay?"
"I'm fine… thank you for saving me," he tells her, remembering what she did seconds after Rudger exploded. He wasn't sure if what happened truly happened, but he'll keep that to himself for now.
"Weird. I don't remember her pulling you up. What happened?" asks Ushio in confusion.
"He's safe now, so why's it matter?" Lua complains, annoyed at how adults can focus on pointless things.
With that, the building starts shaking. Dust falls from the sides, bringing worry and concern. "Everyone, run!"
In those words, everyone gets going to the exit as fast as they can. Heading toward the way they came, they pass by Jack, Crow, and Mikage on the way but don't stop. Those three simply follow after.
As they reach the area where they entered, they see the clouds surrounding Satellite have really disappeared. But at the same time, there's something else of note. Over in Neo Domino City, there is a geoglyph shining bright white in the night light. In the shape of a condor.
"What's that?!" Jack questions seeing it.
"It looks like the condor geoglyph…" Mikage says while staring at it.
From the crater produced by the destruction of Old Momentum, the light shines brightly. At the same time, the four Signer Marks shine brightly, burning into the Signers' arms. From the skies, the Crimson Dragon appears, before roaring. Red light flashes over the group, taking them and their D-Wheels away.
As this happens, the light from old Momentum dies out. A mass of blue and black sludge emerges from the hole, completely covering everything. Luckily, the soldiers have already left on their armored transport long before. The mass takes the form of a towering red-eyed demon the size of a skyscraper. Its gooey wings spread open as it stares at the geoglyph.
Neo Domino City…
The light from the Crimson Dragon shines behind Goodwin's Mansion. There, the Signer group arrives. While that is weird, what's weirder is the sight of the shrine within Goodwin's basement. As well, the light of the condor stands below it.
"Welcome, Signers and friends. I have been awaiting you."
At the zenith of the shrine, Rex Goodwin exits with his arms crossed behind his back. "It would appear you have been victorious against the Dark Signers, but you've failed to seal all the doors of the underworld."
"Director?" Mikage speaks seeing him.
"Goodwin! What's going on?" Jack demands, craning his neck to him.
"Goodwin? Did we fail? Is the world-"
"Doomed? Yes," he answers, bringing fear to them. The old man then stares at Satellite. "That mass of sludge is the King of the Underworld."
Luca flinches when she hears a voice. It's Kuribon. 'Kuribon?' The fluffy creature speaks in its language. "We can't let it touch the geoglyph?"
"That's right, little Luca. It's heading this way."
"Why?!"
"For this shrine is a sacred, ceremonial ground of course. It is for the purposes of this ritual that I used the Crimson Dragon's power to call upon all of you." Using his left hand, he reveals it; a capsule containing the arm with the Dragon Head mark.
Seeing it, the other four marks burn in response. Yusei holds his arm as he says, "So, there it is…"
"Wait a minute…" Jack realizes, seeing the arm and remembering his arm is mechanical. Having not been there to fully head all of Rudger's story, he shouts, "SO THAT WAS YOUR ARM THE WHOLE TIME?!"
"It's Rudger's," says Yusei, turning to Jack. "Rudger also held the final mark."
"He did!?" Crow asks in shock.
Still, it leaves something open. "But, why do you even have it?"
"It was a gift to me from my brother… along with this!" Goodwin turns around, exposing his back. It shines with the Condor Mark.
Seeing it, it tells them everything they need. "Goodwin! Are you-"
Transforming, Goodwin bulges through his shirt and suit jacket, revealing a muscular physique. He also gains dark sclera and markings. "That's right! I have been reborn as a Dark Signer!"
Goodwin then opens the capsule, tossing the cap aside. With it free, he snaps the fake arm off of him before grabbing his brother's arm. He attaches it to his arm, using his dark energy to fuse it to him. Flexing it, he smirks. "Seems like the dragon's power is resisting. It will take some time to control it."
"Goodwin! What's your scheme this time?!"
"I shall become a god!" His voice no longer shows restraint or calm, it now resembles that of a rage monster. He raises his left arm, causing the shrine to rise. Everyone runs away using their feet and D-Wheels to escape the change in landscape, Goodwin's mansion being destroyed in the process.
Where he stands, a podium rises from the floor. It's actually a duel board. "We shall now perform the ceremony to usher in the King of the Underworld's arrival. This will be done through a Riding Duel from the Condor Geoglyph! By crushing you Signers once and for all, I shall offer your lives to the King!"
"What the hell is this about?!" Crow asks in anger. "Didn't you employ these guys to defeat the Dark Signers?! And now you are one!?"
"Or have you always been one?!" Jack adds.
Goodwin's image appears enlarged within the condor. "Why waste time on foolish questions? It's only a matter of time before the world ends."
Gritting his teeth, Yusei asks, "Goodwin! If we win this duel, will the King-"
"Disappear? Yes. However, that's why I'm offering this duel! By getting rid of any attempts at resistance!"
"Then I accept!" Yusei shouts.
"Goodwin! It's time I dispersed you!" Jack declares.
"I may not be a Signer, but if it's for the kids in Satellite, I'll do anything!" Crow shouts. "I've been out of action for a while, but it's time I showed my stuff and did what was right, like the Legendary D-Wheeler!"
At that, Goodwin smirks knowingly.
The three machines rev their engines, their friends cheering them on. The geoglyph tilts, allowing them to board.
"In this unorthodox 3-on-1 duel, the opposing players will start with 4000 Life Points while I have 12,000. Neither player can attack on their first turn. No objections?"
"None!" All three shoot forward, jumping onto the tail of the condor.
"RIDING DUEL ACCELERATION!"
Yusei Fudo: 4000
Jack Atlas: 4000
Crow Hogan: 4000
Rex Goodwin: 12,000
As Goodwin plays Speed World, Crow goes forward. "First move goes to me, Crow the Bullet!"
Crow summons Mistral in defense mode. After that, he special summons Blast the Spear before setting a card.
Jack draws for his turn, summoning Mad Daemon. He then sets a card.
As Yusei begins his turn, he stops to ask the important question. "Goodwin, why are you a Dark Signer?!"
After a brief pause, Goodwin asks, "Did Rudger tell you the truth of seventeen years ago?"
"He mentioned you and him worked for my father. That he took over and caused Zero Reverse."
"So, not everything…" The Dark Signer gains a solemn look as he recalls the past. "Shortly before he caused Zero Reverse, he left me with that gift."
Flashback Again…
Blood drips to the floor. The professor leans against the wall. "Rex... you have to... stop Momentum..." He hands Rex the three Signer cards he kept.
After that, Rex travels through the rooms, searching for his brother. He stops when he hears his voice in pain in a dark room. Entering, Rex finds Rudger by a table, blood splattered on it and the floor. "Rudger!"
His big brother tosses a capsule over to him. Rex picks it up, noticing it contains his left arm, the one with the dragon head. "This is…"
"Rex…" speaks Rudger, his voice coarse and dark, "eventually, there will emerge four people with marks like those. Those Signers will be the key to saving the world. I want you to take that, and gather them together to stop me."
"W-What are you talking ab-"
"JUST DO WHAT I SAID, REX!" he screams, turning around to expose his face. Rex backs up, almost puking, at the sight. Rudger's right side of his face is pulsing with purple veins, converting his right eye. His hair has greyed as well. "Two gods have taken residence in my body, but I can't resist the wicked anymore! Take that and get as far away from me as possible, while I can still h̴̢̧̘̰͋̉̇̆̽͐ō̷̜͔͎̝͖̊̽͐͘ͅl̵̡̥̦͙̫͔̦̠͉̜̋̽̀ḑ̷͕̞̜̻̫̲͉̟͆̎̐͋ͅ ̶̨̡̮̥̼͓͍͋͛́͆̕o̴͔̅̍̎̃̃̄̀̋̊͗ṇ̴̨̡͍͔͍͚̪̐̏̆̀̒̅̒̾̃͌̇ť̶̡͔̙͚͒̽̏̊o̶̯̣̘̳̩̯͇͌̇ ̷͔̯̲͍͔̓͌́̎̇͝ͅm̴̡͇̮̘̖̯̦̪̺͆̆̏̽̊̈́̍ȳ̸̲̀̇͑̋͛̄̀ ̸̥͐͂̓͝ŝ̴͕̳͚͚̳̖͍̣̞̖̅̂ͅa̷̲̤͚̙̪̳̗͚̮͋̍̐̈́̽͆͋͠n̸͚̩̘͇̟̻̾̄į̴̘̰͈̰̹̤̠̩̼̍̒t̴̖̃͑͘y̴͓̳͉͈͇̗̱̽̒̌͂̍̈́͊̕͝!̷̢͍͕̹̻̑̔̋̋̅̓́̈̒̍͜ͅ"
"But…"
"GOOOO!" He pulls out a pistol and rapidly fires at his brother's feet, forcing him to take off.
Pause…
"When we started up Momentum, we began the battle between the Crimson Dragon and the Wicked Gods. At that moment, seventeen years ago, they seized my brother as the first setting. As such, his mind fell victim to the Wicked Gods. But before it was too late, he gave me his arm entrusting me with the task of stopping him. Thus, he unleashed Old Momentum's power.
"It was my duty to collect the Signers and have them face him eventually, using the cards Professor Fudo entrusted me shortly before I received the arm. Up until then… I had reached a certain conclusion. I'm sure you noticed the transport helicopter by Old Momentum…"
That's when everyone realizes why that was there, along with those soldiers. "While you were at your stars of destiny, I paid him a visit. And lost to him."
Last Flashback…
"Queen of the Spiders, direct attack!" A towering spider fires threads at Rex, causing an explosion.
Rex: 0000
As he falls, smoke billows off of him. He remains still, unable to fall anymore.
Rudger approaches him with pity, sad that he had to be the end of his brother. Until he sees cards fallen to the floor that was in his hand. "Wait… you could have stopped that attack! You threw the duel!?"
He grabs his brother to get an answer, shaking him. "Why, Rex!?"
"To reach my ideal…"
"What do you mean?!"
Rex smiles while staring at his brother. "It doesn't what you've planned. The Signers will defeat their opponents, as well as you. You can't defeat Yusei. And with your defeat, the Dark Signers will be resealed… until thousands of years later when someone else will be burdened with the same fate as us. Toyed with. Used. Forced to fight one another. Staining the land with blood in the name of the gods."
Rex spits up blood. "But, I can shatter the chains of fate! Because of what you could not bear! What you gave me to fight against fate. With the Dragon Head Mark, I can control it!"
His eyes glare skyward as he stares at something else. "The other thing, I yearn for it in death! I shall take it!"
Feathers fall to the floor in his mind. A black bird with pink features materializes before flying down for him. "Make me a Dark Signer!"
End Flashback…
"I shall use the powers of the two gods to put an end to their conflict. With the King of the Underworld's power, I will destroy the world. And then with the Crimson Dragon's power, I shall rebuild it! And rule it as the Ultimate God!"
With his plan finally clear to everyone…
"Are you out of your fucking mind?!" Jack shouts in rage.
"Why do the kids of Satellite, Martha, and a whole bunch of innocent people have to die just so you can be a god?!" Crow shouts in anger.
Yusei points saying, "Goodwin! You're wrong. You don't need the power of God to tear down destiny!"
"And what does?"
"The power of the bond between comrades in arms!" he declares, before pulling his card. He summons Max Warrior before ending his turn with a facedown.
"Then allow me to show you the power of two gods. My turn."
