Peter drops from the prison ceiling slightly off guard by georges lack of surprise. "You don't seem very surprised it's me mister stacy….?" But all the former captain could do is smirk before telling him "Please kid I thought it was you after the first 10 minutes, why do you think I was so willing to work with you or so desperate to change Gwen's mind? Because I always knew the guy behind the mask. (His face suddenly changed to confusion and worry) but this little visit isn't about your identity is it…? Is it gwen? What happened?" Head down somberly Peter told him the truth "she found out sir."
"Dammit parker! How could you let her find out?! Do you have any idea how much more danger you've put my girl in?!" The concerned father and imprisoned captain screamed seemingly unaware of the commotion he was causing.
"I know sir I agree! Do you think I wanted her to know!? To be put in danger just because of what I do?! I know you understand that captain! Even if she didn't hate Spider-man she was NEVER supposed to know my secret." But none of this appeased George, if anything it made him angrier.
"You don't think that's something I've grappled with every single day since she was born….!? All I've ever wanted to do is keep her safe from this world, this life but I can't and neither can you." Just when the tension seemed like it couldn't get any thicker "are you telling me what I think you are…?" "Break up with her parker. Explain things if you have to but let her go." "I'm not breaking up with her! I love her! I'll explain everything and we'll be alright!" Peter yelled with a strange primordial anger bubbling up. "You'll do what I'm asking. I know you love her, I know you want to protect her and I know you'll do what needs to be done." By now all the commotion had alerted the guards that were now running down the halls towards the ex captains cell. "Get out of here kid! Go on go!" He screamed as the young conflicted parker escaped.
When Peter woke up on his first day back for the new year he was feeling simultaneously on edge and at peace somehow 'this suit is doing it' when he got to school gwen was true to her desire for them to keep their distance from each other for the time being but she was however talking with harry.
"Look gwen pete loves you but he's got these powers and he thinks he should use them to help. I get you're mad but we should be supporting him not condemning him!" Harry told her more than a little agitated after all his best friend her boyfriend is out there risking his life for people and she's treating it like he's a murderer or something.
Throughout the day gwen was ducking Peter with expect precision until finally Peter was about to give up at lunch when someone's tray plopping down hard at his table startled the young, conflicted hero. "Ok dude what's going on with you guys? (It was none other than MJ) don't even try to bullshit you don't know what I'm talking about either"
'wow MJ's not messing around here' he thought before nervously looking back and forth. "Gwen thought she knew everything about me but at Christmas she found out she didn't so now she needs time to figure out if she's ok with it" but all mj does is blink in response until she gets up and pulls the parker kid up out from his seat "whatever's going on don't let it sit! You guys need to clear things up right now! Go get her tiger." She tells him while shoving him towards Gwen's table.
When he gets there he practically stumbled into a very intimidating jessica drew before getting Gwen's attention. "What do you want Peter? I told you I needed time to process everything." She coldly said to him once they were away from prying ears. "I need to talk to you. Explain things. (After a nod of her head he continued) after I got bit by that oscorp spider last year and this happened I thought I could do whatever I wanted, you remember, I tried to make some money as a live stunt performer but the guy was a dick and wouldn't pay me. When the guy got robbed a minute later I thought it served him right, the guy ran right by me and I didn't do a thing the robbers name was Dennis caradine and later that night he murdered uncle ben all because I did nothing. I will never forget that night gwen, this is just something I have to do with great power comes great responsibility." Gwen struggled to find words to what she just heard but after a minute she did "wow… that's a lot to process. Look Peter I just don't know how to handle this ok?! I have no idea how I can be with you like we were knowing who you are!" 'gwen how dare her talk like that to us after everything we do! She can piss off then! Whoa what was that?! Why would I ever think that?' tabling that for later the masked crusader decides on the best thing he can say, the only thing he can say "truth is gwen now that you know things will never be like before but maybe we can find a way to move forward?" Before gwen could say anything though peters spider phone rang "hello captain?" Gwen gave him a weird but glaring look "Hammerhead has taken hostages in the bank on 5th avenue, says he's got information for you kid." Jean told him before hanging up "so getting my dad in trouble wasn't enough for you, you have to screw over jean too?" Gwen said with such venom it could knock out an elephant. "I'm still working on getting your dad out but it was his choice to work with me and it's dewolffs too, anyway I gotta go but can we please talk later" he pleaded while getting ready to run off but gwen just walked away without answering.
On his way out of the school he ran right into flash thompson and deep seeded furry came bubbling up from all the years flash pushed him around. "Whoa what's the rush? You ok park….." but flash didn't get to finish asking before he was thrown ass first into a nearby trash can.
Spider-man arrived at the bank to see dewolffs men stationed outside and thankfully no sign of chief watanabe. When he landed inside Hammerhead just let all the hostages go 'this was just about getting my attention I guess' "so hammy I heard you had something to tell me?" "Nuh uh not so fast freak show first you gotta prove you're worth it" the gangster taunted as he started firing off his machine gun at the wall crawler. "Whoa hammy!? This how you treat all your dates?" The hero joked while dodging gunfire until he yanked the gun away.
By the time Hammerhead was webbed up and defeated midtown high school was already done for the day and hammerhead still had something to tell. "Alright you win bug. You want kingpin gone? So do I but you don't have a clue who you're dealing with do you? Didn't think so, it's fisk wilson fisk." The flat topped crook confessed to the spider powered vigilante but someone else barged in during the webheads more heated part of the interrogation followed by another "freeze Spider-man you're under arrest! Stand down now or so help me I will put you down!" The chief screamed followed by a "Spider-man stop you're going to kill him?! You're a hero remember? You've won!" Coming from captain dewolff. 'whoa what am I doing?' pete thought before swinging away only to run into the goblin.
"Goblin! You murderous maniac this time you're going down!" Spidey screamed without bothering to control his ever growing rage. But goblin was just flying around laughing until he was in full range of the automatic motion sensor camera the former red and blue teen set up earlier. "Oh please you have no chance of stopping me! This has all worked exactly as planned, I get rid of that meddling police captain, create an army of super thugs under my control, flip hammerhead to reveal the kingpins identity to you, you take him out and I take over! Hheeejhhhhaaa!;" "Why'd you want captain stacy out of the way?" "Oh please stacy is way too clever and never gives up. He had to go and besides with his struggles with the bottle it couldn't have been easier! But why so interested? If you like the stacy's so much how about we go pay them a visit?! Hheeejhhhhaaa!" The manic shouted out as he flew away towards Gwens' house.
Gwen was sitting in her living room very distracted but trying to get her homework done while her mother helen was in the kitchen preparing dinner clearly seeing the turmoil her daughter was in when suddenly something crashed through the window. "My what lovely ladies we have here hhheeehhaaaa!" The goblin taunted before going to grab gwen. Before the goblin could pick up the young blonde genius a black shiny boot swung right into his face followed by desperately concerned screams "STAY AWAY FROM THEM!" The ex primary hero threw him out back through the window pounding and pounding on his stupid green rubber face. It was only when he heard gwen scream that he let up, letting the goblin get away during the break.
"Peter get in here! My mother collapsed!" Gwen said with such panic completely overshadowing her anger towards him. When the EMTS got to her torn up house Peter had fled the scene but was actually still watching from a nearby roof. "I'm sorry miss but your mother's gone. It looks like it may have been an aneurysm or a cerebral hemorrhage but we have to do an autopsy to be sure."
Gwen was basically shut down the next few days. she moved in with the watsons. 'the funeral is today but does gwen even want me there…? No I HAVE to be there for her no matter if she wants me there or not' he decides before getting ready for that very event.
He arrived late, just as the priest was finishing up, and quietly slipped his hand into Gwens. 'no matter what I do, no matter who I save I'll never be able to save everyone, The people I love will always be the ones that suffer most. Gwen is so sweet and caring, willing to do whatever she can to help out and so was her mom. Will gwen still be able to be the caring girl I love? What am I supposed to do?' Peter stayed in the cemetery looking at that grave even longer than gwen trying to figure out how his life got to this point.
Late that night pete remembered that he still needed to go through his footage from the day when he found gobbys confession. 'This is it!' he quickly called the captain and told her to meet him on the roof.
When he arrived she was more than a little on edge after recent events "ok kid I'm here what's up? You're not gonna flip out again are you?" But he just slowly hands her a flash drive "what's this?" "Evidence. Enough to help get george stacy out of prison" her eyes practically jumped out of her head after hearing that "what?! How'd you get this?" "Does it matter if it exonerates him?" He asked growing more annoyed 'we finally found something to help george and now dewolff is just giving us the third degree! Figures, everyone is ALWAYS more interested in questioning Spider-man than helping who needs it!' "thank you. I'm sure whatever it is will help, you did good kid but can I tell you something? This new suit and attitude doesn't suit you, go back to being a friendly neighborhood Spider-Man." She exclaimed before he jumped off the rooftop.
