'hey it's me again. Peter… Peter parker… ya know Spider-man. Well anyway it's been another month and still no sign of green gosborn. Jean is about 90% sure the sin eater is stan carter, she's gonna set a trap for him soon. Gwen has been so busy putting everything together for prom that we still haven't really got the chance to work things out…. The dance is this week so maybe it's not hopeless yet.'
In the halls of midtown high school in the last week of may prom fever has set in especially among the graduating class nearly everyone has paired off: flash and Liz, glory and kong, Cindy and mark, jessica and a basketball star named jason.
When our heroic trio entered the halls harry immediately sought out the other resident redhead, the one with a fantastic singing voice. As previously predicted by his fellow classmates harry liked MJ quite a bit and plans to ask her to the prom, meanwhile the remaining blonde and brunette were left to re-establish what they are.
'ok parker don't blow this, you just got to show gwen that whatever's going on mask or no mask your love for her always comes first' as he began to open his mouth he was cut off before he could say anything. "Pete I know we've had our issues but I love you so we need to work through them right now." Gwen demanded with such force and her eyebrows so fierce that there was absolutely ZERO room for debate. He lead gwen out of the open halls and into an empty classroom to talk things out away from prying eyes.
"Look gwendy I love you too and I'm sorry we've been on different pages lately but with everything that's been going on it's been hard to keep up just no that no matter my responsibilities as Spider-man my responsibility to you will always come first when you need me ok…?" She had this pensive face as she thought over what he said, it was also almost a pout before smiling up at him. "You sure know how to make a girl feel important, I mean if given the choice between dangerous criminals and me you'd actually pick me… but seriously Pete you know I don't really approve of what you do but I'm glad it doesn't have to get in the way of us, so want to go to prom with me?" The nerdy boys grin was from ear to ear at that "gwen stacy going to prom with you is all I want right now."
Somehow throughout most of the school day harry was unable to find MJ, he really wanted to ask her to prom before anyone else does. He was a little surprised to find her in a student council meeting with gwen however. He waited outside until the meeting was over "hey MJ! What's the deal with the student council meeting, since when are you involved with that?" MJ suddenly had a huge smile on her face thankful for the friendly distraction, plus she kinda liked harry too. "Oh hey harry! I'm still interested in journalism, gwen just wanted backup with telling the prom committee that the mary janes are gonna be too busy having a good time to perform." She told him before saying something about mister bannons' media class but all the wealthy young man could focus on was the voluptuous redhead in front of him. "Hey MJ! (He cut off suddenly much to her surprise) would you go to the prom with me?" Her only answer was her smile growing larger and more beautiful before she strutted off to class deliberately being as sexy about it as possible.
As Spider-man swung around the city after school that day he couldn't get over how he was almost done with high school and just how different his life was just two years ago when suddenly he notices the smoke trail coming from a goblin glider and it's not harrys'. 'well look who's showing his ugly rubber face' "hey green gosborn!" He yells after him while attempting to put his red boot right into normans green face but all that happens is he goes right through him while creating a pixelated distortion in the "goblin" "what? Oh no not you again bubble brain!" Spidey shrieked in horror at one of his least favorite villains not for any difficulty in beating or psychological torment no it was because of just how annoying Mysterio could be.
Mysterio vanished almost as suddenly as he had appeared 'I may not have caught you beck but at least you didn't bother me too much today' but just as our heroic young man started to swing off towards his home in queens his spider phone rang. "Hey kid. The traps all set for Friday night, we'll see for sure if carter is the sin eater and we'll bring him to justice for what he's done." 'friday night?! That's when prom is! There's no way I could do that to gwen! Maybe she can do it another night….?' "alright captain I'll be ready." 'NO WHY'D YOU SAY THAT?! PROM! GWEN! FRIDAY NIGHT! AAH YOU ARE AN IDIOT PARKER!'
A few days later and it is now Friday afternoon, prom is tonight and Peter still doesn't know how he can take down the sin eater and go to prom with gwen at the same time. Once the school day had ended everyone bolted out the door, most to go get ready for tonight's dance but the dorky parker boy went off to patrol the city from above on his web cables. When swinging towards the queensboro bridge he saw the enforcers speeding down through traffic in a very large and definitely stolen truck. As he was about to chase after them his attention was brought to all the cars they had smashed through, one in particular that had a young boy trapped inside it as the vehicle was bobbing off the side of the bridge.
When our hero opens up the trunk of the car to climb towards the child sitting alone at the front seat things were made worse when the boy caught sight of the red mask covered in black webbing and the large white eyes of Spider-man. "Aahhhh help mommy, daddy! The bad spider guy's gonna get me!" 'you're kidding me?! This kids actually more afraid of ME than going splash in the river. Thanks a lot jameson.' as he tried to approach the kid slowly he told him "hey it's ok it's ok buddy I'm not here to hurt you I'm here to help." But as Spidey crept closer the kid became more and more panicked, squirming around causing the car to waddle further off the edge. "No get away from me! Spider monster! Help!" 'if this kid gets any more freaked out the car's tipping over. Guess I have no choice….' he thought to himself as he took off his mask "hey hey hey look buddy" "huh…? You're just a guy?" The kid asked in confusion "yeah a guy that doesn't want to see you be fish food, now come on let's get you outta here." He replied calmly as he was finally able to reach the young boy, to save him.
Once the boy had been safely rescued his phone buzzed, a text from harry hey bro where are you? Were supposed to pick up the girls in like 5 minutes?! 'uh oh I'm supposed to help dewolff trap sin eater right now and I can't just ignore that, what if she needs backup. Aahhhh but I can't just abandon gwen….' he shot harry a reply hoping things would work out running a bit late but I'll see you guys there, something came up ? ﾸﾏ
While dewolff was waiting on the roof for Spider-man the stairwell door opened up to reveal the stupid green mask of the tactical serial killer known as the sin eater. "So it really is you carter. Why'd you do it? You're a cop you can't just go around killing whoever you w_…." But alas jean dewolff didn't get to finish her sentence and she'll never get to start any other one either because detective stan carter the sin eater shot the police captain right in her skull.
A few minutes later, a few minutes too late Spider-man arrives on the precinct rooftop to find the sin eater standing over dewolffs body. "Captain! Captain? Captain dewolff? Jean?" The red and blue hero cried out desperately to the woman, breaking down the last time, but there was no denying it. Captain jean dewolff was dead. "You!" He yelled out with such raw furry at the killer webbing his face and tearing his stupid green mask off to show the man he recognized as stan carter. "You killed her! She was your coworker! You're friend! How could you do this?!" He yelled as he went to web him to the ground only to find that he was suddenly out of web fluid.
Meanwhile at the prom gwen was sitting at the table with a glass of punch looking more than a little worse for where when jessica walks up to her friend. "Come on gwen up and at em! Look I don't even know my dates last name but I'm having a blast, just because parkers not here doesn't mean you have to sit there alone. I'm not gonna be able to look out for you when I'm at Oxford in the fall, I need to know you'll be ok." But at the mention of the elite school in england Gwens focus had narrowed. "Oxford? You're going to oxford? Jess why didn't you tell me?" At that Jessica's face became a rare look of sadness, regret and concern. "I meant to gwen I really did but you've had a lot going on and I guess I didn't know how to tell you. No matter what we'll always be friends right? You sure you're still gonna slum it with Parker at E.S.U.?" But the look gwen was giving her that said really got her to stop with the jokey insults. "Ok ok. We'll stay in touch and we'll see each other again. We're friends, we've been friends for YEARS me going to school in england isn't gonna change that, so how about we have an awesome time here instead of waiting around moping?" As the two girls walk to the dance floor to have fun among midtown's fellow students.
Back on the police rooftop chief yuri watanabe has burst through the staircase door alongside officer Vinnie gonzalez to see that not only was one of her own officers the infamous sin eater, not only was Spider-man in her sights right here and now but one of her police captains, a true hero on the force, was dead but before she could make a decision on any course of action there was another BANG of a gun.
Stan the sin eater carter now was laying dead with a bullet in his head on the same roof where he did the very same thing to the police captain only moments ago, officer gonzalez had shot him. "Gonzalez what the hell are you doing?!" The chief questioned as she pointed her gun at the corrupt cop as he did the same to her.
"Kingpin knew we'd have to get rid of you sooner or later, might as well be now." "Hey Vinnie! You forget I was here?!" The webhead called out as he flip kicked right into the crooked cops head, knocking him out. The chief immediately put down her gun before addressing the hero "I'm not really sure about you anymore but thank you Spider-man. Go get out of here before I change my mind." And with that he swung off towards his high school prom.
When he solemnly walked into the decorated gym and stopped in front of gwen she hadn't made up her mind whether to act like she didn't even notice he wasn't there or to be pissed but the second she saw his face both options were out the window. "Oh my God Peter what happened?" She asked with such concern, completely forgetting about the dance they were both at no her only concern was for her super powered boyfriend. "Captain dewolff and I were setting a trap for the sin eater but he knew. It was detective carter and he killed her and then one of kingpins cops killed him and I couldn't stop any of it. I can't save anyone. I don't know what I'm doing gwen….. you should get as far away from me as you can before I let you down too…" he choked out in between his intense uncontrollable sobs, it was when everyone started looking at them that they remembered they were on the dance floor of a high school prom. She just stood there hugging him, doing whatever she could to try and ease the pain he was going through knowing fully well it was a futile gesture.
Hours later, well past midnight in a disgusting alleyway the large, powerful and wealthy kingpin was once again meeting up with the unpredictable green and purple associate the goblin. "Your antics are becoming a problem and are a distraction from the annoying little shit Spider-man." Fisk said to the unstable criminal "hahahaha! Or calm down crime king. All I need is a few more weeks and that red and blue headache will be gone for both of us! Hhaaaahahhhaahehehaha!" He ranted before flying away again leaving the kingpin standing there, coughing and angry.
A/N I'm back at the booze again! What do you think goblins master plan is? Poor dewolff, that's gonna haunt Spidey from this point forward and I guess george is going to be captain again huh? What too soon? Only one more volume left in this first arc/season. Until next time true believers!
