Star Wars: Anakin 2

On the way to Curoscan, Anakin felt pain while meditating in a room, but realized it wasn't his and wondered if it was what he remembered, so he went outside to look around curiously.

Arriving at a dining room, or a living room with a dining table, Anakin found Padme looking tragic, sitting at a table.

-It will be all right, you are a great queen who will bet everything to save her people, and they know it, or will know it in the future," said Anakin, stopping in front of her.

-Anakin, don't..." Padme sighed. Do you know who I am? -she asked in a daze.

-Padme Amidala, Queen of Naboo and a person who keeps her heart in the right place," said Anakin. Padme looked at him stunned.

-How?" asked Padme.

-A vision, though Qui-Gon says they are only future probabilities and not to be taken seriously," Anakin said. Padme swallowed hard, she didn't take it that way, and Anakin knew it was because she was desperate, and in that situation, people were willing to cling to anything, even a fantasy or vision of the future.

-And can you tell me how this will end? -Padme asked after swallowing her breath. Anakin grimaced and took a step back, putting on his best performance of someone who had said too much and was afraid to say more. Padme blanched at his reaction.

-Anakin, please don't go! -Padme begged. Anakin gritted his teeth, taking another step back.

-Padme, you'll be fine, I'll save you in the future," Anakin assured her, and Padme couldn't stand it any longer and got up to walk over to him and hug him.

-Anakin, don't be afraid, I will protect you, you can tell me anything you want," said Padme with some desperation.

-"Padme, I'm not afraid to say it, I'm afraid you'll hate me if I do, because the people who want to hurt you are the ones who are close to you," said Anakin reluctantly.

Padme tensed. She stopped hugging him and looked at him apprehensively, but then seemed determined and took him by the hand, leading him to the table to sit next to him.

-Anakin, I promise I will not be angry with you or hate you. Please tell me what you saw," Padme promised seriously.

Anakin looked at her doubtfully for a few seconds. These doubts were not feigned, for he wondered if this would help or cause some disaster. Still, he had to take a chance, for he could not allow Palpatine to accumulate power without restraint. Every little blow counted, and with his future knowledge, turning Padme against him would give him many headaches. He would try to kill her, but many had tried, including Palpatine, and never succeeded. Anakin also knew that this would be Padme's own will if she could make the decision.

Anakin took a deep breath, and Padme tensed in preparation.

-Padme, what I have seen about you is something dark and blurry, except for you," Anakin warned. In my dream, a mass of eerie darkness awaits us upon our arrival at Curoscan. But I can see you just fine, so it's not an assassination attempt," Anakin said, and Padme breathed a sigh of relief. Anakin shook his head.

-He is no assassin, but this darkness will hurt you far more than any assassin. You and the entire galaxy," Anakin said regretfully, and looked at Padme, who nodded, asking him to continue.

-The darkness cannot touch you, but it whispers false words to you, offering you a protection it has no intention of giving you, in exchange for your support in its quest for power, and you will accept," said Anakin sadly. And you will accept," said Anakin sadly, "I see you in a great high room, with thousands of people, surrounded by darkness, feeling sadness, pain and helplessness, but also anger and fear, as you pronounce a vow of no trust, which was the deal proposed by the darkness.

"After that, all around you is darkness. I can see nothing but you and other little lights, struggling alone, unable to see the darkness beside you, always whispering, always promising but never delivering, only becoming more and more powerful, patient but omnipresent for years and years. As the little lights go out one after another, only darkness remains and I can no longer see anything," Anakin said and bowed his head in regret, without any pretense, for that future was truly miserable. Padme was silent and Anakin sighed.

-Padme, don't worry. When you can no longer fight, I will not let you die. I will save you and we will escape far away," said Anakin. I will become a powerful Jedi. The darkness will be too strong at that time, but we can flee," Anakin continued. Padme stood up and hugged him for several minutes. Then she pulled away and looked him in the eyes.

-Anakin, we'll be fine, we'll all be fine! -he said and walked with determination to leave the room.

-I hope so," Anakin whispered, for if Palpatine succeeded in his plan to take control of the Senate, his plans would go forward unhindered and he would divide everyone into two camps to wage a war in which he alone would be the victor.

Anakin knew that there could be consequences and it was possible that Palpatine's miserable old man would cause some disaster out of pure revenge if his plans succeeded. However, he had to take that risk, because if he allowed Palpatine's power and influence to be absolute, when the war that the wretched old man must have been planning for a long time already began, he would be helpless.

...

Anakin returned to his room to meditate and try to find an answer on how to save Qui-Gon.

The trip to Curoscan lasted all night. Well, they were in space, where everything was dark. Still, it was mid-morning when they reached Curoscan.

On Curoscan, they were greeted by a contingent of guards, Chancellor Palpatine of Naboo and Supreme Chancellor Valorun, whom Padme eyed suspiciously. That meant she had heeded his warning, but had the wrong person. Anakin smiled inwardly, it was enough for him that she was suspicious.

Anakin looked first at Chancellor Valorun, an elderly man with gray hair but an imposing bearing. Then he looked at Palpatine, the wretched old man who was well into his years, but whose face was kind and he looked like a beloved grandfather and someone who could be trusted. There was not the slightest hint of his twisted mind or hints of the dark side in him.

Palpatine looked at him and Anakin could see shrewd eyes, but nothing different from what he saw in Valorun: a politician calculating his chances. His gaze at Anakin was also not penetrating and lasted no more than two seconds.

Qui-Gon and Obi-Wan saluted and then parted on their own. Anakin was taken to Padme, who left him and Jarjar in a room and went off to sort out his political problems.

...

Anakin surveyed the city, which stretched endlessly beyond where his sight could reach. He felt comfortable there, as that was what he had known for most of his life. He hated his home planet filled with sandy deserts, so his mind and Xion's were in agreement on this point.

Anakin wondered how he could have access to all this technology. He was an adult and would not rely on the Force alone to protect his life. He knew his brain was prodigious and he could take advantage of it, even without activating his divine cells, the intelligence of his current body could not be underestimated...

Anakin frowned as Padme's shock reached him. Anakin smiled, assuming that Palpatine had made his proposed vote of no confidence in Valorun, promising Padme a solution to the conflict in his hands, but getting the opposite reaction to what he expected from her.

Anakin remained calm, as Palpatine could not do anything to Padme in that place, he could only lick her feet and twist his own brain to try to get answers about Padme's reaction.

...

A few hours later, Anakin and Jarjar watched the Senate session through a small screen that Padme's maids lent them.

The Senate session went as Anakin expected, and no one wanted to support Padme. Things turned into an uproar of accusations and lawsuits, which was normal and would end up in court. This made it clear that there was something dark behind all this, because this situation could be considered an emergency, and Anakin did not believe that in the Republic there was no exception measure for cases like this. These senators were simply bypassing the law, probably bribed or bought by Palpatine.

Padme, who was in the middle of this commotion, looked helpless as she watched. The supreme chancellor's calls to order failed to calm things down, it was a real circus. And this was what Palpatine could accomplish as a mere senator of a planet on the middle edge of the galaxy, although according to the miserable old man's backstory, perhaps he had the backing of the banking clan due to the influence of his master, Dark Plagueis, in that clan.

Anakin continued to watch to see what Padme was doing, but when the commotion escalated, she gave the Senate a cold stare and did not utter a word. It was an hour before the supreme chancellor managed to calm the situation, mainly because Padme had been silent and had not spoken since the uproar began.

The final straw came when Palpatine, seeing that the situation was calming down, tried to speak. However, Padme gave him a cold look that seemed to warn him that if he said a word there would be serious consequences. Palpatine did not dare to disobey and sat back down without saying a word.

This made the senators remember that this was a public act and that spending an hour shouting while one of the parties involved watched them silently could leave them in a compromising situation. They heeded Valorun's efforts, shut their mouths and returned to their places. Only the trade federation, which was the other party involved, kept talking and trying to provoke Padme for another fifteen minutes. However, she just looked at them silently, without saying a word, which finally led them to return to their places, motivated by Chancellor Valorun's threats to sanction them if they did not do so.

After all the commotion, the supreme chancellor gave Padme the floor, but she shook her head.

-Chancellor Valorun, first of all, I want to make it clear that during all this time I had the right to speak, as I have not even finished stating my case. However, it seems that this Senate does not respect its own protocols nor is it willing to follow the laws of the Republic," Padme stated with determination.

"This makes me think that for this Senate the laws of the Republic do not matter. Therefore, I and each of the senators present will see our faces in court.

"I assure you, Senators, whether it's money or blackmail, what you have been offered for coming here to shout will not be worth it. I will not rest until every one of those involved in this shameful spectacle faces justice," Padme concluded. Despite her words causing another uproar, she left the Senate, dragging Palpatine in front of her as he implored her to stay, but she ignored him.

...

-Senator Palpatine, if you return to that Senate, I will declare you in rebellion and treason," Padme scolded angrily, as her maids opened the door to her chambers.

-Majesty, please reconsider. If we make enemies of the entire Senate, our people..." Padme slammed the door in his face.

-Jarjar! -Padme snarled, and Jarjar, who was watching her entrance next to Anakin with a frightened expression due to Padme's anger, jumped back and stood his ground. Come with me, please," Padme said, regulating her voice and controlling her anger.

-Anakin, the Jedi masters want to see you," Padme said and continued on. The maids dragged Jarjar with them, as he was reluctant to follow Padme in her angry state.

Anakin smiled, it seemed Padme had taken his words to heart and had already spoken to his own, including Jarjar, to see if they had any other options. She had heard about the Gungan army. That explained why she was so resolute in the Senate.

Anakin opened the door to find Palpatine pacing back and forth, feigning concern, and Qui-Gon and Obi-Wan coming after him.

-Master Qui-Gon, I have seen brothels with more order than your Galactic Senate. It's like a gathering of drunken mercenaries," Anakin said in an unconcerned tone. Qui-Gon and Obi-Wan blinked and then hurried to bow him away from Palpatine, who watched him for a few seconds but had more pressing matters at hand and continued his work of feigning concern.

-Can I have access to the holonet? -Anakin asked. "I'm sure there'll be a big fuss. I want to see if any senators apologize for shouting or if they are even more brazen than in the Senate and accuse Padme of being unreasonable and negligent, risking the wrath of the people should they support her," Anakin said with genuine interest.

The results of Padme's actions could be beneficial or disastrous for her. It all depended on how much influence Palpatine has in the galaxy today, as well as Padme's popularity and the results on Naboo.

-Anakin! -Qui-Gon said in a serious tone. We Jedi do not intervene in the affairs of the Senate," Qui-Gon added authoritatively.

-Weren't the Jedi collaborators with the Senate? -Anakin asked. "If the Senate is corrupt and the Jedi support it, people will think the Jedi are corrupt too, so this should matter a lot to them, right?" asked Anakin, frowning. -Anakin asked with a frown. Qui-Gon and Obi-Wan blinked.

-The people trust the Jedi order," Obi-Wan said. Anakin shrugged, unconcerned.

-Will I have access to the holonet? -Anakin asked again. Qui-Gon sighed.

...

On the way to the Jedi Temple in a Senate vehicle, Anakin observed the temple, perched atop a mountain with five massive towers. It was an impressive work both from afar and inside.

Anakin looked all around him until he reached the council chamber and was made to wait half an hour before entering. Qui-Gon and Obi-Wan were left outside, and he went in alone.

As he walked, Anakin looked at each of the Jedi. Most of them he knew: Adi Gallia, Plo Koon, Grandmaster Yoda, Windu, Ki-Adi-Mundi. In addition to them, there was a Kaminoan, a big-eared dwarf, who was also of a known race. The others were not famous, so he barely glanced at them out of the corner of his eye...

Anakin blinked. There was another little green goblin on the council, but this one was a woman. This caused him some shock, as she could only be Yaddle, the teacher who was killed in Dooku and Palpatine's conspiracies. Anakin thought he remembered that by this time, she had disappeared, but there she was, alive and sitting on the Jedi council...

-Anakin Skywalker," Windu called. Anakin hurried back to calm, and if anyone noticed his startle, they didn't mention it.

Anakin looked at Widu. According to Xion's memories, this guy was one of the most influential, and also one of the strongest. Next to him was Grandmaster Yoda, whose robes were the only ones of a light color, looking like old gray rags. The green goblin was a cunning individual, for his skill with the saber was almost unmatched, and his physical prowess, not at all that of an old man.

-Anakin Skywalker, we are members of the Jedi Council and we would like to run some tests on you. May we proceed? -Windu asked.

Anakin nodded and Windu and used an electronic screen to display images, and Anakin had to describe them all, even though the screen was towards Windu's side. Anakin did it without a problem, since from his first meditation, he learned to see without using his eyes, so the test was over fairly quickly.

-Great affinity with the Force you possess," Master Yoda declared and the rest of the council nodded. But your feelings are also strong," Yoda nodded in agreement.

-Anakin, we Jedi are not supposed to have deep bonds with other people, as we follow the Jedi Code, which forbids forming bonds such as marriage or, in your case, individual bonds such as a family," Windu explained. Anakin simply nodded.

-Would you agree to give up your family ties to join the Order? -Windu asked.

Xion remembered this part. By this time, the Council had sensed the boy Anakin's fear for his mother's fate, and because of this, they refused to accept it. He felt no fear, but he had not dismissed the feelings for his mother because he did not want to do so and to the traveler it seemed nothing wrong, so their minds were united on this, and there were no fears, fears or doubts, only determination.

-No," Anakin shook his head, "I know my mother, she deserves my love. It's a feeling that gives me strength and drives me forward. I feel I would be leaving a part of me behind if I gave it up," Anakin replied sincerely. Windu frowned, his answer did not please him.

-Love is an attachment. If you love, you fear to lose. Attachment leads to envy. The shadow of greed, that is," Master Yoda warned disapprovingly.

Anakin grimaced and looked him up and down. He could only sigh in his mind. If this old man didn't change that way of being, he would end up in a swamp eating bugs and regretting his bad decisions.

-As I said before, I don't consider him to be evil, and you have given me no compelling reason to change that opinion, so I won't," said Anakin, and the masters looked at each other. Windu scowled at him.

-Anakin, Grandmaster Yoda speaks from great experience and wisdom. The Jedi Order has followed his wise counsel for years. You are still a child, you should listen to the advice of your elders," said Windu.

-I have heard his wisdom before and understood his good intentions. Besides, I know he is old. But the world changes and the past is left behind. Those who refuse to live in the present can never have a future. The past is there for us to learn from, not to follow its example to the letter," Anakin looked around at the Jedi masters, who stared at him in surprise at his stubbornness. It's a nice place, but so are my dreams. The problem is, they're not real," said Anakin, and some of the council members were startled, and a hush fell over the place.

-Anakin, thank you for coming," Windu dismissed him a minute later. Anakin remained calm and bowed goodbye.

-Masters," said Anakin and walked out, taking one last look at the place.

...

-I don't think they liked me," Anakin shrugged as Qui-Gon and Obi-Wan watched him leave.

-I knew it," Obi-Wan said with a sigh. Qui-Gon looked displeased. Anakin guessed that he, as in his memories, had made a point of thinking he was the chosen one.

...

The council did not give a clear answer to their acceptance or rejection, as Padme reported that she would leave the capital and return to Naboo. This led the council to postpone their decision and send Qui-Gon and Obi-Wan to protect her, with permission to take Anakin with them. Of course, Anakin was not about to leave his life in the hands of the Jedi council and already had a plan to escape their control, but first he had to help Padme, as Palpatine would not stop trying to kill her now that he had been banned from the senate.

...

An hour after leaving Coruscant, one of Padme's maids interrupted his meditation to call him and lead him to a room where some crew members were gathered around a table headed by the false queen, with Padme at her side, Captain Panaka and her maids. Qui-Gon was on the other side and was watching Jar Jar, who was explaining that the Gungans were warriors.

-Your Majesty, this is a dangerous idea. If we wait for the senate...

-Master Qui-Gon, we are here because the senate has been bought off and at this moment I doubt even our own senator. I am considering making an official request to investigate his actions," the false queen interrupted.

-On what basis would he make such a request? -Qui-Gon asked in surprise. The false queen kept her eyes straight ahead, but Padme looked at Anakin, who came and stood between the two parties.

-Your Majesty, visions of the Force cannot be taken for granted, they are only a possibility," Qui-Gon explained uncomfortably. It seemed that talking to those who were not Force-sensitive caused discomfort to the Jedi, but he already imagined Anakin said something.

-Thank you, Master Qui-Gon. I will keep that in mind," said the false queen confidently, indicating that Padme had already made this decision and was now merely stating her thoughts.

-Your Majesty, please, if the Gungans are not willing to support us, promise me that we will withdraw," Captain Panaka asked. The queen nodded, as that was a reasonable request.

-Your Majesty, if we can get the droid army out of the city, we can take the fighters and try to shoot down the command ship," said Captain Panaka. That, coupled with the capture of the viceroy, should give us the upper hand in the negotiations," he added.

The false queen nodded and unfolded a map to see where they would enter. Anakin watched the palace hangar, as he had his own plans to gain Padme's favor in this battle, where so far he had only contributed little, but now he had a vital role to play, for without her help, many people would die and the plan would fail.

...

A few hours later, they landed on Naboo and met with the Gungans without revealing their plans to the Republic. The queen was already certain that her enemies controlled the Senate and that any information she gave to the council or senate would be leaked to her enemies. Qui-Gon sighed when he was forbidden to communicate and threatened to be left behind if he did not cooperate. Padme was very determined when it came to the safety of her own.

...

The Gungans were happy to be considered equals by the people of Naboo and agreed to the diversion plan, marching in with their army and causing the Trade Federation to deploy their droid army, driving them out of the city.

Padme and the others attacked by taking the hangar, which was easy, as it was protected by B1 droids and there were no destroyers.

Obi-Wan and Qui-Gon were about to follow the queen, but Maul was already waiting for them.

Anakin retreated to a fighter and Padme ordered Artoo to stay behind to guard him. Qui-Gon also warned him to stay put. Anakin nodded, appearing to be obedient, until they all left and he began fiddling with the space fighter's buttons to see how the controls worked. Artoo, who was guarding him, was alarmed and asked him to stop and behave.

-Anakin, use the Force! -Anakin encouraged himself, in a ghostly voice, ignoring Artoo as he found the power button and shot out of the hangar, taking a minute before going into space to familiarize himself with the controls.

...

-Testing, testing. Red leader to Cannon Fodder. Red leader to Cannon Fodder. Cannon Fodder, it'll take a couple of minutes to take out that ship. Do your best not to die. Red Leader, over and out," said Anakin.

-Who do you refer to as Cannon Fodder, kid? -the mission commander asked in an angry tone. Your droid says you didn't even know where the power button was. Get back to base, that's an order! -the commander scolded. Anakin cut communications and made a few turns to dodge gunfire, since he was in space and there were vulture droids everywhere.

Anakin advanced directly towards the sphere-shaped Trade Federation battleship, ignoring the droids, while R2D2 emitted sounds of concern as enemy gunfire passed near his head.

-Relax R2, I'm using the Force and at the speed we're going I have plenty of room to maneuver. We don't need to waste time shooting or evading. We're heading straight for the target..." R2 made sounds of distress.

-R2, I can count. I know we're being chased by fifteen vultures because they think we'll crash into their precious flagship. Don't worry, I have a plan. I assure you we won't crash...

-R2, they won't shoot us down either. Concentrate on the shields, we'll need them as we turn toward the hangar. We'll take some hits at the last second of the turn," Anakin explained. Artoo made worried sounds as they made turns and the vultures grew even more desperate, sending more fighters after him not daring to fire missiles for fear they would hit his precious command ship and cause more damage than he could cause with his little fighter.

The chase lasted a minute and, as Anakin had planned, at the last second he turned away from his suicidal maneuver, leaving only five centimeters of separation between the enemy hull and his fighter, and turning toward the Vulture hangar a hundred meters away. Three of the twenty vultures chasing him, the closest ones, failed to turn in time and crashed behind him, causing some short circuits and causing the shield protecting the vulture hangar to fail, allowing him to enter unimpeded and only taking about three shots due to the abrupt change in direction from vertical to horizontal.

-No, Artoo, it's not a miracle, it's the execution of Death Star Plan 1. You'll find it's very effective and we'll use it in the future," Anakin said, ignoring the droids and Artoo's questions about more suicide plans. He sped through the corridors of the ship toward the control room and the central engines, leaving no doubt that the engineers who built this ship lacked any gray matter in their heads.

These ships had internal shields that could be activated to prevent invasion, but Anakin was flying in a fighter at faster than the speed of sound, traveling hundreds of meters in a second. By the time the controllers could trigger the proper protocols to activate the shields in his path, he would have already been in and out twice. Of course, one had to be aware that no one would think that these corridors would be used as a pathway by a supersonic fighter. That would be an impossible maneuver for any human being. However, as an engineer, you must always keep Murphy's law in mind, as nothing can be taken for granted.

Anakin reached the main engine room in two seconds, as he had to slow down from his entrance. Artoo launched the missiles while he annihilated the controllers with blaster cannon fire to make sure their path remained clear of shields or barriers. The fighter took some blaster fire from the B1s guarding the site, but Anakin ignored them and, after completing the half-turn maneuver to fire at the controllers, activated the turbo and made his escape. As he was leaving, he activated the radio again.

-Red leader to Cannon Fodder. Red Leader to Cannon Fodder. Death Star Mission 1 has been a success. Get away from this junk if you don't want to be destroyed in the blast," Anakin warned.

-What? -asked the mission commander in disbelief. How...? -Anakin cut the communication as he shot out of the enemy hangar and chain explosions erupted behind him.

Once outside, Anakin wasted no time and, after performing some celebratory pirouettes and several spins that left Artoo shrieking with indignation, he set his sights on the queen's palace and returned to the hangar about ten minutes after he left.

...

Upon arrival, there were a couple of destroyers, but with the destruction of the command ship, they were disabled.

Anakin left the fighter with R2, whom he planned to bribe with some upgrades and also promising him that they would be heroes, so that he would help him in future missions...

Suddenly, Anakin was lifted into the air by a squadron of pilots who had followed him there.

-Boy, you're the best pilot I've ever seen! -shouted one of them as they launched him into the air.

-Put me down, I have something urgent to do! -ordered Anakin urgently, and the pilots put him down, looking stunned by the urgent tone of his voice, for with the command ship destroyed, the war was won.

Anakin explained nothing and ran towards the place from where a cold chill ran down his spine.

Anakin and Artoo arrived at the palace generator room, another ingenuity of some deranged engineer, but Anakin didn't have time to figure out what the point was. Just then, Qui-Gon was pierced by Maul's saber, about a hundred yards away.

-Damn it! -Anakin cursed, unable to get close because the shields were still active. Anakin had to wait while Obi-Wan screamed in helplessness and pain, waiting for his turn to face Maul. Anakin advanced as soon as the shields opened, making it thirty meters before they closed again.

-R2, do something," said Anakin in annoyance. Artoo complained that there was no access terminal nearby and questioned his judgment in approaching danger while unarmed. He suggested running away and letting him handle everything.

Anakin rolled his eyes and kept moving forward when the shield opened again. Obi-Wan and Maul paid no attention to him and continued their fierce duel.

Finally, after three minutes, Anakin arrived at Qui-Gon's side as Obi-Wan cut Maul in half. Obi-Wan looked at him in surprise at his sudden arrival, but instead of asking him what he was doing there, he took Qui-Gon in his arms calling out to him with tears in his eyes. Anakin sighed. The Force had warned him in his meditations, just as it had with his mother, to whom he could only leave a large sum of money in case Watto changed his mind and decided to sell her. He could not save Qui-Gon. The Jedi simply would not heed his hunches, and even if he did, Maul was still there.

Regardless, there was something Anakin could do for Qui-Gon, but he decided to wait for Obi-Wan to say goodbye to him.

-Anakin! -Qui-Gon said feebly, and Anakin rushed to kneel on the other side of Obi-Wan. Anakin, Obi-Wan will train you. He will be your master," Qui-Gon said with difficulty. Anakin said nothing and took his hand.

-Relax, don't resist," Anakin said, closed his eyes and summoned the presence of the Force as he had never done before, immersing Qui-Gon in it. With all the power the Force brought him, Anakin was sure that a wound like Qui-Gon's would be nothing. But he had no skill with the Force, he only had the Force itself. Fortunately, Qui-Gon was no ordinary Jedi, and the Force had offered him a way out...

Anakin, holding Qui-Gon's hand between his own, felt them vanish into thin air. He opened his eyes and saw Obi-Wan holding his master's clothes, but there was nothing else. This was the second path the Force had shown him, and it was to help Qui-Gon accelerate his journey to joining the Force. Now all that remained was to find a way to communicate with him.

Anakin sighed as Obi-Wan looked at his master's clothes blankly. Anakin tried to get up, but the world began to spin and everything went black.
