Chapter 13:
While everyone was asleep, Aiden sat at the fire and kept watch, but he was sure he wasn't the only one awake, Brie was awake. "Can't sleep?" he asks her.
"Nope.". Rubbing her eyes together, she was surely not gonna get any sleep. "I am scared.".
"Of what?" he asks, he was scared too, but scared of what would happen if he couldn't protect her.
"What if we fail, and Nirrti invades Earth? What if she drives humanity to extinction? What do we do then?".
Aiden never thought of that, "I, I don't know. I guess, we start over in Atlantis.".
Brie sighs even more, if only he wasn't so blunt, but then again, he isn't afraid to say what should be said, something she loves about him. "If it ever come to it, would you ever consider… you know." She blushes as she says it.
Aiden, blushes himself, but then smirks, "I won't complain. But you have to remember, we're both only nineteen.".
It's true, Brie never went to college, for she couldn't afford it, her father passed away when she was seven, and her mother was a drunk. "Never said we should start young, we could wait a few years, I mean, there's a lot of people in Atlantis.".
Aiden chuckles, but he couldn't help but think to himself, him and Brie, having a child together? It sounded perfect. Her looks and his brains, sounds great. "Well, if he has your looks and my brains, sounds perfect.".
She chuckles, "And what if she has your looks, and my brains?" knowing the answer already.
"That's just as perfect.". He kisses her softly, before rubbing her breast quickly, making her pant for a second. "Gotcha.".
"Jerk." She teasingly says. She heads back to camp to get some sleep, her dreams filled with a life as a mother.
The next morning, Aiden switched with Brogues, Brogues lid up a cigarette and was greeted by said Aiden.
"Thought you quitted that shit." The 19-year-old said.
"I did, now it's a guilty pleasure.".
Aiden chuckles, pulling out a power bar, "This is what you call, a guilty pleasure." As he chews it down. But something was bugging him, "Do you ever think, what might've been, if the Stargate was never discovered?".
Brogues laughs, "Dumb-ass, then you would've never existed.".
"Sometimes I think maybe the universe would be better off if I never existed.".
"Are you fucking with me?" asked Brogues, "Better off? Aiden, you saved the lives of the expedition countless times, you saved the Earth! You found love, you have friends, family, don't take it for granted.".
"I am not, just, sometimes think you know, what if things were different.". Aiden knew Brogues was right, he has everything he could ever ask. Parents, sister, two best friends, a drop-dead-gorgeous girlfriend, what more could he want? "Do you sometimes think about marrying Mary, and settle down?".
"Yeah, Mary and I talked about it, I mean, I am twenty-nine. You got ten years before you need to reproduce, enjoy it, but don't ever stop thinking about becoming a father, it's in our nature." Brogues taps his friend's shoulder. "Ever.".
"We must get moving." Came Kai's voice. "Before the Jaffa finds us.".
Hiding any evidence of their camp, they set out. Kai leading, Brie walked extra close to Aiden, just so that she could feel safer. "Do you trust this guy?" she asks.
"Not at all, but he doesn't leave me with much choice here.".
Kai, heard it all, truthfully, he doesn't trust himself, he fears, if he turns, he might hurt his double, or the girl, he doesn't have any feelings to her, but he has a protective instinct, due to his double's feelings. He looks up to the sky and gives a quick prayer.
"How much further is the base?" asked Stevie.
"Just beyond this canyon.".
"Why couldn't we take the bikes?" asked Brogues.
"To avoid a commotion, we need to be stealthy for the last bit." Kai answers, but he stops, and pulls his dagger out. "We got company.".
The team aim their guns, and Aiden primes his senses. "Three on the left, three more on the right, one on top!".
Kai throws his dagger and kills the man on top of the hill.
Aiden turns to his left and shoots three Jaffa smack bang in the heads. "Three more on the right!".
Brie shoots, killing all three of them. "Any others?".
"Negative.".
"Keep moving!" and Kai heads into a sprint.
Brie was a little slower then her comrades, but Aiden purposely slacked behind to make sure she makes it. "Almost there.".
The enemy fortress was up ahead. Hiding behind some bushes, they watch the gates, "Alright genius, how do we get in there?".
Kai looks at the guards, "Leave it to me.".
Kai walks up to the gate, the guards see him and look oddly, "Lord Kai? Why are you outside?".
"I was… getting a quieter place for my kelnoreem. But I wish to speak to our god, so let me pass.".
The guards pull on a set of pulleys, and the gate rises up. Kai enters, but quickly dismembers the guards. The team follow him in, but Aiden then gets an idea. "Do you have of these funny armours with the full helmet?".
Kai rolls his eyes, not bothering to correct him. "Follow me.".
So, going inside the armoury, getting the disguises, they go to find Nirrti in her lab, but it was getting tough, for there is a split in the hallway to two different corridors. "Split up." Aiden ordered.
Kai and Aiden go down the left, Brie, Brogues and Stevie the right.
Aiden and Kai marched normally the Jaffa not paying any attention to them. "This armour is uncomfortable!" Aiden remarks.
"Tell me about it." Kai snorts. The lab was right up ahead. Nirrti was waiting. "Kai! You were absent for two days! Explain now!".
Kai bowed, still fearing her, "I, I found Tau'ri intruders, don't be concerned my goddess, I slayed them. The blood of them is on my blade.
Kai grabs the blade he used to kill one of the Jaffa that ambushed them.
Nirrti smiles evilly, "Excellent work, now, who's your comrade?".
"He assisted in their kills.".
Nirrti frowned, "Remove your helmet!".
"It's been damaged in battle." He merely says.
Kai gets up, "He is tired, my goddess, I shall personally escort him to the chambers.". The two leave, Aiden uses his radio, "We found her. Meet us where the corridors meet.".
"Copy. What's the plan?".
