Chapter 20
Remy's POV
It's Saturday morning and Dad Diesel and his assistant/current Rangeman, Flash, are taking me to the Dog Days of Summer swimfest at the community pool. It's when they allow dogs to swim in the pool if they are up to date on their vaccinations. After asking permission, one little girl hugged me and loudly announced that my head smelled like strawberries. How embarrassing. Yeah, my mom was wearing strawberry lip gloss and kissed me on the head before we left. It's a good thing no one hacked into the Rangeman cameras this morning and saw Mom dancing me around the breakroom floor and singing Be My Little Baby. She says she has to do it now before I get too heavy for her to carry. So, I let her do it to keep her happy. And I like it. A lot.
I was all dried off before we got back to Rangeman, so no shaking water all over Santos. Hey, if he hadn't tried to use me as a chick magnet during a walk in the park when I first got here, I wouldn't do it. Probably. Oh yeah, I got a Puppuccino on our way back to Haywood. We met up with Caesar in the parking garage. On his way back to Rangeman from running errands, he came across a sale held by the Sisters of Mercy. He bought two huge boxes of books, CD's and DVD's, and videogames to go in the rec room on 4th floor. The church got a nice donation from him and the guys will enjoy all the stuff. Oops - I spoke too soon. There's a boardgame called Scruples in the box - that could get interesting! I'm betting our demolition experts blow it up before the end of the month.
We are getting a big truckload of deliveries today so all available employees will be in the first floor conference room after it arrives. It's time for the annual school supply drive and Mom ordered in bulk on-line so that we didn't clean out our local stores. Now we get to divide stuff up into boxes for individual schools. My Aunt Valerie and my cousins Angie and Mary Alice will help. The guys like doing this and it really helps people who need a helping hand to buy school supplies - they're expensive and lots of families have more than one kid.
Methinks I should look into getting a calendar for all my activities and duties, of which there are many. I bet Hector could make me something. Caesar already told me about the Blessing of the Animals ceremony at the church where he bought all the stuff this morning. I'm sure Mom would take me, Freddy, and Rex. And then there's my rounds at St. Francis. Plus, the Bloodmobile is coming again soon. Maybe Dad Diesel can be there bc they serve cookies afterwards. I'm sure they have his favorite kind. And there will be a Labor Day picnic at Rangeman and Louis has already talked to me about a job this fall - Ella likes to plant mums around the building in the fall and I get to dig the holes - yes!
