Chapter 1
Chaotic Ceremony
A young woman smoothed out the dress that she wore which was the latest in fashion and a gorgeous silver color. She took a breath as a Strawberry blonde-haired woman, Virginia Pepper Potts fixed her employer's sister's hair.
"We're almost finished, Abby," Pepper said using the nickname of Abigail to try to help soothe the 21-year-old woman.
Abigail looked up through dark mascaraed lashes. "That's not what I'm worried about. Tony probably will miss the ceremony…"
"Abby he hasn't given anyone the reason that he would skip," Pepper said trying to soothe her, but sadly it wasn't all that helpful.
Abigail knew how Tony was and Tony would miss out on things to have more fun or as Obadiah would call it working when it was just gambling money away. "Did Obadiah say when he would be here?" She asked in a hopeful tone hoping that Obadiah would be able to bring her to this event instead of her brother. She was rather thankful that Obadiah stepped in to take her places that Tony really should've taken her.
"He should be here soon, Abby." Pepper said smoothing a few of the flyaway strands before spraying her hair down with hairspray to keep the silver little decorations in her hair. "There you go. You look beautiful."
Abigail looked up at Pepper with a look of thanks. "Thank you, Pepper."
"Anytime. You know I'm here to help you with anything."
There was a knock on the door.
"That should be Obadiah," Pepper said going towards the door. She opened it revealing a very dressed-up Obadiah. "Mr. Stane." Pepper bowed her head in respect towards the man that helped Tony keep the company on track until he came back at the age of 21.
"Is Abigail ready?" Obadiah questioned his brows raising slightly as he looked at Pepper.
"I just finished with her hair. She's all ready to go, sir."
Abigail came out into the entryway of the hotel room smoothing out her gown.
Obadiah smiled softly. "You look beautiful Abigail."
Abigail smiled softly. "Did you hear from Tony?" She asked softly as she grabbed her clutch.
"He said he should be there soon," Obadiah said with a smile.
Abigail nodded her head in agreement. "I hope he doesn't try to blow it off."
"You know Tony, he's always working."
Abigail let out a breath. "I do the same too, but I at least prioritize things."
"You are more prioritized than your brother, but I know Tony means well. We'll figure out what to do if he doesn't show up."
Abigail nodded her head in hopes that Tony wouldn't miss out on this.
IMIMIM
Abigail sat next to Obadiah in the large hall where people had gathered to celebrate her older brother Tony. Her eyes slowly looked around trying to find her brother, but couldn't spot him and let out a soft breath causing Obadiah to look over at her. She should've known better that her brother was probably doing something stupid that he would deem more important than receiving an award.
"Is something wrong, Abby?" Obadiah questioned looking at the young woman who had just just started her third year of college being now 21 years old and legal to drink alcohol just not that long ago.
"Tony isn't here." She said softly to Obadiah gripping her clutch tightly.
Obadiah let out a breath and shook his head lightly. He slowly looked up at the screen as the video began. "He'll be here. He messaged me saying he would be here."
"But he hasn't messaged me to say he's here."
"I know you're worried, but I told you we have it if he doesn't show up."
"December 7, 1941: the day the world changed forever. President Roosevelt declares the
The United States will build fifty thousand planes to fight the armies of Hirohito and Hitler-
S.S. Officer's goose-step through Paris. Although no such capacity to build existed… Howard Stark, founder of the fledgling Stark Industries, answers his call to duty - And builds not fifty, but a hundred thousand planes. Later, Stark's work on the Manhattan Project makes the end of
the war possible. Stark Industries would go on to contribute to every major weapons system through the Cold War -But Howard Stark's greatest achievement would come in 1973- early on, it was clear that Tony Stark had a unique gift- At seventeen he graduated summa cum
laude from MIT. Four years later, tragedy would pass the Stark mantle from father to son-The loss of a titan. But Tony did not let personal grief distract him from his duty - At twenty-one, he became the youngest-ever CEO of a Fortune 500 company. And with it came a new mandate - Smarter weapons, fewer casualties. A dedication to preserving life. A visual crescendo of America's modern military might. Today Tony Stark's ingenuity continues to protect freedom and American interest around the globe." Rhodey said as he talked about his friend.
Abigail bit her lip softly as she watched Rhodey knowing that he would be upset that Tony wasn't there to accept the award from him. She was quite upset with him as well as with him not being there whatsoever.
"As Program Manager and Liaison to Stark Industries, I've had the honor of serving with a real
patriot, a man whose life has been dedicated to protecting our troops on the front lines. He's a friend. And a great mentor. A man who has always been there for his friends and his country. Ladies and gentlemen, this year's ARES Award winner - Mr. Tony Stark."
Abigail winced as there was loud applause for a man who wasn't there.
A spotlight went to Tony's empty seat that was next to Abigail. She tried not to scoff at her brother being missing. She should've known just like a few others that were in the room.
Obadiah looked over to the empty chair before slowly getting up to his feet. He offered his arm to Abigail and she slowly took it.
Abigail bit her lip as she walked with Obadiah to the stage. The walk up to the stage was awkward and nerve-racking. She was going to have to give Tony a piece of her mind once this was over because he shouldn't have missed out on this honor that he was receiving.
Obadiah made it to the podium looking out at the crowd before clearing his throat a little bit and patting Abigail's arm softly with his hand. "Thank you...I, uh, I'm not Tony Stark, but if I were Tony, I'd tell you how honored I am and...what a joy it is to receive this award. The best thing about Tony is also the worst thing - he's always working."
Abigail bit her lip knowing that Obadiah was lying about that bit. Being in Vegas, he was probably working the craps table trying to make money or gamble their fortune away. She looked over at Rhodey and saw the look on his face knowing that he wasn't happy with the idea of Tony not being there either. But they both would make do in a short amount of time. They were going to have a nice little chat with Tony when they found him.
