Kibble scribble- Sorry for the delay, during my week break my internet disappeared and i had no access. its fixed now though
When they had first boarded the Telicherry both Montmorency and Louise had found it strange, to quiet in some places, and too noisy in others, the halls having a strange vibrating and humming feeling to them. After a day or so they had mostly become able to ignore it.
Now however that humming and thrumming, the faint vibrations and barely noticeable tones of machinery were anything but. The light vibrations were now constant shakings no matter where in the ship, the humming was loud and impossible to ignore, and in the very air there seemed to be a sort of electrified feeling like, that of an approaching thunderstorm.
Before departing for the ships bridge and telling them to head to their own room, Musashi had said it was because the Ship was preparing for combat, its systems and weapons charging and all of its systems running at full capacity. In a way it made sense, but it did nothing to alleviate the girls nerves as the ship moved through drift.
"I wish I could see where we are going," Montmorency said as she sat on her bed against the wall, feeling the vibrations through it go into her skull.
"I wish I could get rid of this headache," Louise said as she laid on her bed, face in her pillow as she looked like a corpse in a way. "But until we can make sense of all of this knowledge, I don't think we can help in any way."
Montmorency let out a sigh of agreement as she shifted her head and stared up at the ceiling of the small room. "Electricity, Coal power, Gasoline, gunpowder, explosives, Fusion power, Printing press printers, Holotables, Lasers, holograms. . . . . . we really knew nothing, huh?"
"We used coal for fires, thought blades of iron were well made, and thought gunpowder was pointless compare to magic," Louise said as she turned her head to face Montmorency. "It isn't that we knew nothing, its just that Halkeginia is far behind."
" . . . .Should it be though?" Montmorency asked before realizing she would need to be specific. "The Brimiric faith has been around since the founder six thousand years ago. In that time there have been three crusades against the elves that didn't do anything, and if I remember history correctly, the way Halkeginia has fought wars hasn't changed much. Airships have existed for the last four thousand years, and the only thing newly made is the Muskets the Muskateer squad uses, and most nobles don't think gunpowder has a use. Books are hand copied by the church to make sure they follow the faith, but its been that way for thousands of years, shouldn't have someone thought to make a Printing Press to make it simpler?"
"Maybe it was to much?" Louise suggested. "Too difficult for scholars to . . .wait, Mr. Colbert was always designing things like that,"
"He was, wasn't he?" Montmorency agreed before looking back at Louise. "Didn't he complain about other nobles getting in the way of his work sometimes before classes would start?"
"He did."
"Maybe other Nobles didn't want him to make things easier?" Montmorency suggested before looking confused. "But why though?"
"Probably because it would somehow make the Commoners become more self sufficient or need the Nobles less," Louise said with a sigh. "Not all Noble families are as good to Commoners as ours are after all."
"I guess, that just seems so, so . . . . like such a waste."
"People like Count Mott exist," Louise said in a disgusted tone. "With how much I've heard my sisters complain about other nobles, I don't think most even care about Commoners."
"I'm sure most do but they-"
Attention all crew, We are about to arrive in the vicinity of Zirtisa in moments and combat will likely occur shortly after as according to our information other ships are already engaging pirate elements. All crew prepare for combat maneuvers and be prepared to brace at a moments notice.
A Second after the shipside announcement the light in the room shifted from bright to a dark and subdued red that, while it allowed them to see, it was not exactly easy too.
"Are we supposed to be able to see in this?" Montmorency asked with a scowl.
"I can, kind of see," Louise said as she rolled over and sat up on her bed, finding the red light less painful for her headache if anything as she squinted. "Maybe our eyes will get used to it?"
"I hope so. Otherwise how will we-" Montmorency stopped as a strange buzzing echoed out in the room alongside a dull blue light above the door flashing. "That, means the door right?"
"It does," Louise said as she got up off her bed and stepped over to the door, her hand gently passing over a panel to its right.
In that instant the door slid open, revealing the short form of Talcu standing there with one pair of hands behind his back, while the other had his hands I pockets. "Girls," He said with a nod. "I have volunteered to watch over you during this conflict in the void, as it also gives us an opportunity, if you are interested.
"What sort of opportunity?" Montmorency asked as Louise stepped back into the room, allowing Talcu to enter into just the doorway, seemingly unwilling to enter further himself.
"An opportunity to look into your magic's, and see what, perhaps, you could be taught, or learn," Talcu said as she entire ship shook slightly. "Would be better than merely sitting and listening to the distant sound of battle I would think."
"Do, do you really think you could teach us anything?" Louise asked as she backed up and sat on the end of her bed.
"I believe at the very least I could attempt to discern what form of magic's you both could potentially use, and if not I could at least begin seeing what differences there are between our magics. It would likely be a lot of speaking, if you both are fine with that?"
"Well, I'd be curious as to how they differ, at least," Montmorency said as she glanced over to Louise uncertainty. They both knew what her magic usually did. Not that either of them had wands to cast anything.
"Well, I won't be able to cast anything, but I'm curious too," Louise said as the ship shook slightly. "And it might help with this headache and ignoring the shakes."
"Excellent," Talcu said as he stepped further in and tapped the door control, making it slide shut and allowing him to sit down in front and lean against the door. "Then let us begin!"
