The wedding was tomorrow and Simon had to confess he was a bit overwhelmed. The one bright light on his horizon was that he'd found out his honeymoon wasn't gonna be a two week trip like he'd assumed but rather a four month vacation. He only had to endure his entire family and every in-law under the sun for another forty eight hours before his escape to the tropics with his soulmate.
The Lightwoods, of course, had rented out an entire condo for the week while his sister and mother had opted to stay with them. Izzy had promptly vetoed that plan and instead put them up in a nice hotel. Elaine and Rebecca had protested about having Izzy pay for their hotel at first but eventually succumbed to Isabelle's will. If he recalled correctly Izzy's argument had gone something like this:
"You were planning on sleeping for free in our living room on a blow up mattress were you not? So we were already paying your accommodation via our own rent. This will just be a last minute stress reduction adjustment."
After that even Elaine had given in. Beautiful, rich and completely in love with him. There really was no downside to Isabelle Lightwood. Simon knew exactly how lucky he was and he planned to show her just how much he loved her every day for the rest of his life.
The incident with the prenup had been a bit more dramatic than the sleeping arrangements, though only slightly. Izzy had been far more upset than Simon. As far as he was concerned it made perfect sense. Kinda like buying insurance or writing a will. You were probably never gonna need them but being an adult meant a certain amount of planning for disaster. Simon loved Izzy all the more for her being upset on his behalf even if he quickly scooped her into his arms and assured her it was all fine.
When he'd taken the time to read the prenup Simon had actually felt his jaw drop. Sure signing this meant that if he divorced her he wouldn't own half of all the Lighwood holdings but they weren't given him nothing either. It actually looked rather generous to his eyes though the terms did get worse in the event of infidelity on his side. The idea almost made Simon laugh. Isabelle was the only woman he'd ever slept with and she'd be the last woman he ever slept with. The idea didn't phase him in the least. It didn't matter that Izzy had been with so many others before him while he'd just been with her. All that mattered was how much they loved each other right here, right now.
Simon remembered asking Magnus about his prenup when he'd gotten a chance and found it to be much the same.
"Alec made such a fuss," Magnus had chuckled. "Bless him."
"Izzy got pretty huffy too," Simon had grinned back.
"Did Maryse suggest you change your name?" Magnus asked.
"No," Simon replied.
"Then I win," Magnus laughed. "Magnus Lightwood. Can you imagine it?" His tone and laughter had made it sound like the most ludicrous idea ever.
Simon had spent the rest of that evening eternally grateful that his future in-laws hadn't asked him to change his surname. He couldn't help but wonder though when it came time what they'd want a kids surname to be. Simon had decided it was a problem for later.
Right now he had to deal with Jace. Since getting back together with Clary, Jace had been deliriously happy. In fact, he'd been down right bubbly. Simon had to admit it was a bit disconcerting. The guy just kept smiling all the time. Jace was in fact too happy to listen to anything Simon was saying.
"But I don't want a bachelor party," Simon repeated himself.
"Of course you do," Jace grinned back. "And it's starting now so come on!" Once again Jace tried to pull Simon by the arm out the front door.
"I just got back from the rehearsal dinner," Simon whined. "It's been a long day. I just want to sleep."
"It's 6pm!" Jace exclaimed.
"Okay so I want to sit on the couch for a couple hours watching nothing in particular then sleep," Simon corrected.
In all honesty, Simon missed Izzy. It was silly since he'd seen her that morning, but he'd gotten so used to having her around in the evenings he felt her absences keenly. Just one more reason to marry her. The thought made him smile.
"I promise you'll like this," Jace said.
"Unless it involves falling asleep with my arms around Isabelle I highly doubt it," Simon replied scathingly.
"Hey I didn't make up the 'don't see the bride the night before the wedding' rule," Jace said with his hands in the air. "Don't shoot the messenger."
"I can't exactly go find whoever did make up the rule so you'll have to do," Simon replied, feeling cranky enough to take it out on the messenger.
"This is a non-optional bachelor party," Jace explained. "If you do not come willingly I will have to pick you up and carry you."
The grin on Jace's face told Simon that not only was he serious, but he was positively hoping Simon continued to refuse so he could show off his muscles.
"Alright fine," Simon groaned. "I'm coming." He'd rescinded himself to whatever it was that Jace had planned. He just hoped beyond hope this plan did not involve strippers. Simon knew one look at him and Izzy would just know. He didn't need that kind of trouble.
Grabbing his wallet, Simon put his shoes on and followed Jace out the door. Alec's car was the method of travel chosen for today and Simon got into the back seat without complaint. How late could Jace really keep him out after all. It wouldn't be so bad. He just had to make it through till bedtime and then it would be his wedding day.
Simon was prepared to smile like he meant it and endure whatever ridiculous bachelor party Jace had planned. He was therefore surprised when the car stopped at the mall.
"Where are you taking me?" Simon asked.
"You'll see," Jace grinned. Simon tried to ask further questions but Jace shut him down at every turn.
"You know technically Jordan is my best man," Simon tried to get answers by being annoying. "Shouldn't he have been the one to kidnap me?"
"Who do you think sent me?" Jace replied coolly and Simon resigned himself to the unknown.
He followed Jace into the mall and down a hall. When Jace finally stopped Simon just blinked. They were standing outside a video game store.
"Are you going to buy me Merch?" Simon laughed.
Jace remained silent and instead gestured for Simon to follow which Simon did. They got past the clerk just by mentioning that Simon was the groom. Everything got curiouser and curiouser until Jace opened the final door and a loud chorus of surprise reached his ears.
"I thought I was getting married," Simon said, slightly stunned by the noise. "Not celebrating a birthday."
"It's a surprise bachelor party," came Jordan's voice. "Hence the kidnapping."
Taking in the scene, Simon saw that literally everyone was here or at least all the guys. Alec, Magnus, Jordan, Jace, and Jon. They were all standing in a line right in front of him with the exact same goofy grin on their face as Jace.
"But why a video game store?" Simon asked. Just then the line of people broke up and revealed the answer to his question. It seemed this video game store was no stranger to private parties. The entire room was clearly used for such. There were chairs along the walls, a table covered in snacks and drink and right in the center an extra comfy looking couch with a tv mounted on the opposite wall with the playstation loading screen displayed on it.
"You know I have a playstation and a couch at home right?" Simon said, but he was smiling. This was turning out to be a much better party than he'd expected.
"But do you have six controllers?" Jace asked.
"You can't use controls with one console," Simon replied. "There are only four slots."
To demonstrate his point, Jace walked over to the console in question and showed Simon the additional hardware installed to extend the slots.
"That can't work," Simon replied.
"Let's find out!" Jace grinned before telling everyone to help themselves to snacks while he set up the game.
By the time Simon had a plate of chips, dip, cookies, and carrot sticks, Jace had everything set up.
Next came the decision of which game to try first. Simon sensed this would likely have taken hours if everyone hadn't agreed that the groom got to pick. Simon chose one of those survival games because he thought it would work best with so many people. Everyone chose a character and the battle began.
They'd been at it an hour when the subject of the girls came up.
"Clary planned some bachelorette party for them," Jace explained without taking his eyes off the screen. Jordan was advancing on him and one wrong move would mean death.
"Any idea what kind of party?" Simon asked, trying not to feel insecure and almost managing it. Izzy was more wild than him and he couldn't help wondering if she was at a bar somewhere doing shots and getting hit on. He trusted her, of course, but he didn't trust drunk guys at a bar. If she was with a group at least she'd be safe.
Jace didn't seem to be listening. The half a shrug he gave in answer was enough to distract him from his combo button moves and Jordan moved in for the kill.
"Damn it," Jace groaned. Then he turned to Simon. "What was your question again?"
"Nevermind," Simon smiled. He knew he was being silly. He just missed her. It was so dumb. If he wasn't marrying the woman tomorrow this feeling would have motivated him to wanna ask her to marry him all over again. With all their family in town and everything being about the wedding all week, they had barely seen each other. Simon found it rather ironic that an event meant to bind people together for life actually separated them at least for a while.
Just then Simon heard that distinctive sound of a door clicking and swinging open. He turned and his heart leapt because there she was beaming at him. Simon felt certain that an equally goofy grin was now on his face as well.
He didn't even say anything. Just ditched his controller and ran over to her. Simon wrapped his arms around Isabelle and breathed her in before speaking.
"Missed you," he whispered into her neck so no one else could hear.
"I know the feeling," Izzy whispered back. "I annoyed Clary until she told me where you guys were."
"Good thinking," Simon grinned, pulling away to look at his fiance's face.
"You just didn't like my party idea," Clary grumbled.
It was only then that Simon realized Izzy had brought along what had to be her entire bachelorette party group.
"And who could blame her!" Maia exclaimed. "They had video games while we were getting our nails done." She held up her hands. "Look pink! There is pink!"
"Only a little," Clary replied defensively. "It matches the bridesmaids' dresses."
"Urg don't remind me," Maia groaned.
"I kinda like the colour," Paige said to no one in particular.
"You could have organized the party yourself, you know," Clary snapped back at Maia. "You are the maid of honour after all. It was technically your job!"
"My actual job got busy," Maia shot back. "What was I supposed to say, not I don't want the promotion 'cause I have a party to plan?"
"I'm just saying don't complain about how tasks are done when you offload them on people," Clary replied.
Simon couldn't help but chuckle a little. He was all too focused on Izzy to really pay attention to their bickering. He only bothered to look up when they'd been quite a bit too long. The explanation for this was easily discovered when Simon saw Jace, Jordan and Jon greeting their girlfriends in much the same way Simon had greeted Izzy. Magnus and Alec had no reason to get off the couch as they'd already been cuddling the entire evening.
Weren't they all just a bunch of saps. He smiled to himself. Oh well. Better to be happy and sappy than sad and manly.
Once everyone had gotten in their hello kisses people began breaking off to join the party. Maia quickly took over Simon's spot in the game, snatching up his controller and picking up where he'd left off. Jace and Jordan followed once they noticed Maia attacking their now helpless characters.
Clary and Paige noticed the food table and went to get a plate, leaving Simon alone with Izzy.
"Thanks for coming," Simon told her.
"Thanks for wanting me here," Izzy replied.
"I always want you here," Simon beamed at her. "And I always will."
"It's a good thing we are getting married tomorrow then huh?" Izzy beamed at him.
"Freaking marvelous," Simon chuckled before wrapping his arm around Isabelle's shoulders and guiding them both back towards the party.
We are really close to the end now! I've re-plotted the coming chapters again. I realized I didn't have enough stuff to write as many chapters as I thought I did so as of right now there will only be two more chapters of this story before the 6 part epilogue. Which means 8 more chapters total. Each of the main couples (Malec, Clace, Sizzy, Jaia, Tessa/Jem/Will and Paige/Jon) is going to get one epilogue and there will be time jumps though I'm not sure exactly how much time yet. Either way I am strangely excited to mark this story complete! It's something I almost never believed would happen. I usually post a notes and timeline type thing at the end of a story. I will likely be deleting all the timelines throughout at that point. It was a silly idea anyway. Past me had alot of those lol. DFTBA.
Sneak Peek Chapter 206
Alec couldn't help but laugh a little. He was however quickly distracted by the dessert choses served with tea and coffee.
"Shouldn't have had seconds at dinner," Alec commented as he tried to decide which desserts to try first.
"I told you," Magnus reminded him since well he had indeed mentioned something about saving room for dessert while Alec had heaped food onto his plate.
He was only half way through a tiny cheesecake when Alec noticed the slideshow come on. It was showing pictures of Izzy and Simon as kids or even babies. Then as the pictures continued there were more of them together as adults. It was all very cute but Alec couldn't help but notice something.
"How come we didn't have one of those at our wedding?" Alec asked.
"We did darling," Magnus replied kindly. "We just weren't here to see it. If you recall, we ran off early to leave for the honeymoon."
"Oh right," Alec sniggered, turning slightly red. He ate a few more bites of cheesecake before Magnus got his attention and pointed.
