Mother Wolf Ch. 05
It has been a couple months since Howleen confronted Toralei and to the wolf's surprise, the werecat respected her boundaries. Whenever they were in the same class, Toralei would sit in the seat the furthest from the wolf ghoul. And if the werecat spotted Howleen in the hallway, her ears would lower and find another route to her next destination, no matter the inconvenience. Even Meowlody and Purrsephone kept their distance.
The ghoul occasionally got the feeling that she was being followed. But eventually waved it off as paranoia.
Howleen is now in the ghoul's locker room in just her pants and bra revealing the growing bump.
"This is risky," Twyla informs the wolf while looking around the corner. "Tell me why we can't do this at your house, again?" she glances at the half naked ghoul.
"I can't risk my brother and sister, or moon forbid my parents finding out," Howleen takes a tape measure and wraps it around her middle, then examines the tape. "Definitely growing."
"But both your brother and sister are here for practice."
"True," Howleen puts her larger top on. "But both are in the gym," followed by a heavy jacket. "My brother is unlikely to walk into the ghoul's locker room. And as for my sister? That's why you're here," she points at her friend before turning back to the mirror. "I don't look fat, do I?"
Twyla rolls her eyes as this is not the first time she was asked this. "You look fine, Howleen."
"You sure? 'Cause, my family has noticed my eating habits and Mom is worried about my weight."
"Well, just remember," the boogie ghoul pats the wolf ghoul's belly. "You're only going to get bigger."
"Don't remined me. My feet already hurt. I hate to think that they're going to carry more."
At this, the boogie ghoul shrugs. "It would be easier for you if you just tell your family."
"I know," the pink haired ghoul sighs. "I'm just not ready," she goes to sit on one of the benches. That's when her iCoffin went off. Checking it, Howleen lets out an "Ugh!"
"What's wrong?" Twyla sits next to her.
"It's Dr. Feathery. She says that I'm past due for my check up and if they have to reschedule a third time, she's going to contact my parents directly to make sure I come in."
"Why not just go?"
Howleen crosses her arms. "I ran out of notes for both the Doctor and school."
"You could always get more."
"I do not want to speak to that ghoul!" the wolf snaps at her friend. Seeing the boogie ghoul flinch, the pink haired ghoul sighs. "Sorry, Twyla. I don't think I'm ready to face her yet," then she looks up at the light skinned ghoul. "Will you do it for me?"
Twyla bites her lower lip before saying. "I will if you really want me to. But the fact is, Toralei was building a bond with you not me. And if I go and get them, she'd only be doing it for you. As much as you might hurt, I really think it's better you go to her. If for anything, so you'd get some closure."
.oOo.
At the end of the day, Toralei closes her locker and finds a certain werewolf.
"Kit—Howleen?"
"I need some more Doctor's notes," the pink haired ghoul refused to meet the werecat's eyes.
The orange furred ghoul sighs and opens her locker back up only to pull out a small stack of slips of papers. "I made some in advance. Here," and hands them over to the wolf. "I suppose you'd want this back," she then grabs an envelope to hand it over as well. "Would have given it to you earlier, but I kept my distance like you said."
Howleen reaches for it, only to back away. "I can't risk anyone finding out. Give it to Twyla. She'll hang onto it for me," the wolf ghoul turns to walk away, but stops when her name is called.
"Howleen." The said ghoul did not answer. "I never meant for any of this to happen. I know that's not enough for you to believe me, but I'm truly sorry. I still support whatever you decide. Even if it doesn't include me," Toralei shuts her locker and goes to head the opposite way of younger teen.
"I want to hate you," Howleen confesses and Toralei turns back to her. "You are the reason I'm in the mess," the wolf faces the cat with teary eyes. "It hurts, Toralei. Feeling that you betrayed me. I'm not sure that would ever change. But it's also thanks to you," Howleen places her hands over her bump. "I get to look forward to meeting my pups."
Toralei glances around and takes note that nobody else was in the hallway.
"I'm sorry to, Toralei," Howleen tells the older teen. "I never should have said what I did about your son and didn't mean to blab out your secret in front of your friends. How'd they take it?"
Giving Howleen a sad smile. "I forgive you. And the ghouls are fine. They're a little upset that I never told them they're aunts. But they're supporting me."
"That's good," the wolf is back to avoiding eye contact. Toralei took this as her cue to leave but is stopped by Howleen grabbing her by the wrist. "Twyla says that she can't come to my next appointment. I don't suppose you'd want to come with me?" she still refused to make eye contact.
Toralei was honestly shocked but soon smiles. "I'd love to, Kitten," and ruffles the wolf's hair.
Howleen smacks the hand away and briefly glares at the werecat before tackling her in a hug. "Thank you, Toralei."
Toralei was shocked at first but was happy to return the hug. "Anything for you, Kitten."

Spectra flies back into her office. "Oh, my ghoul!" she looks over the recording of the conversation between Howleen and Toralei. "This could be the scoop of the century!" she goes over to her computer, preparing to write the story. Only to have her hands hover over the keyboard. "But it could ruin Howleen's life. I'll wait until everyone else knows. Then, I'll run the story," the ghoul the puts both the picture of Howleen at the party and the video in a save for later file.
