Ep 20: Perturabo the great strategist.
Olympia is a planet in the western part of the Galaxy.
It is a rocky, mountain-fringed planet in which the population lived in human-made, rock-hewn city-states. Although life was tough on this planet where travel between regions was difficult because of the mountains, Olympia is in relative prosperity.
But one day, a light illuminated the sky.
The light fell from the sky to a gigantic desert plateau. The ground exploded and a huge crater formed.
Inside was a large damaged iron capsule.
A child comes out through the broken window.
He looked around and saw that he was in a huge crater.
Boy: "Where am I...?"
He came out of the crater and saw that he was on an equally large and desert plateau.
Looking up at the sky, he was quite disturbed to see a huge maelstrom in the sky, bubbling with sickly color and a foam of light and matter.
The boy ends up making himself with the remains of the capsule a club and a hammer before finally leaving the set.
For days, weeks and months he wandered the huge mountains and the huge plateaus.
He slew the few monsters and creatures that stood in his way.
One day, however, would change his life, as he climbed a huge Phrygian cliff.
As he reached the top of the cliff, a rope was thrown to him.
He looked up and saw men in white armor.
Man: "Take this rope young man!"
The young boy frowned.
The young Primarch: "No... I'll come alone!"
He continued to climb before arriving alone at the top of the cliff under the rather astonished eyes of the soldiers.
The young boy then discovered a gigantic fortress with lots of small buildings behind huge ramparts.
The guards were a bit suspicious of the boy but seeing that the boy looked completely lost.
But the young boy was not going to let it go and in an authoritative voice.
The young Primarch: "You. Take me to your ruler!"
The guards were quite surprised at the boldness of the young boy. The addressed guard spoke again.
Guard: "Okay... We'll take you there. But what's your name?"
The young Primarch: "My name is Perturabo! I come from Terra!"
The soldiers were surprised to learn this, Terra mentioned in the legends of Olympia.
Guard: "Very well..."
They took the young boy to the fortress which is actually the mighty city of Lochos.
After a few moments, he arrived in front of the Tyrant of the city. Damnékos eighth of the name, third Tyrantikos, lord of Irex, of Kerroitan, of Domminiki and of the Septologies of Alka.
The lord had an ungrateful and puny physique although his mind was lively and of great intelligence.
Damnekos: "Here he is... Miltiades, is that really him? The ephebe of Chaldicea?"
Miltiades: "He climbed the cliff separating our city and the plateau of Chaldicea. A prodigy never seen... His name is Perturabo and he would come from Old Terra."
Damnékos: "He is the ephebe."
Perturabo: "I'm not sure... I don't remember anything after I arrived here..."
Damnékos: "You don't remember anything?"
Perturabo shook his head.
Damnékos: "In that case... Bring me a forge! Let this child make a weapon!"
The servants bowed to him before leaving. They came back a little later with a large mobile forge with all the necessary accessories and some iron.
Damnékos: "If you manage to forge this weapon. Then you will be the ephebe. Otherwise, you will always have a place in the city."
Perturabo: "Hm... very well."
He climbed onto the forge and began to pick up the tools.
Unbeknownst to him, his hands instinctively began to pick up the pieces of metal and began to heat them to white heat, then he poured the metal into a sword urn before cooling it.
Perturabo under the amazed eyes of everyone made a perfectly forged and proportioned iron sword.
Miltiades: "By the gods of Olympia... He is the ephebe!"
Damnekos: "It's true..."
Perturabo was himself surprised at his excellence.
Perturabo: "I wish...to become a great builder. I can do this with my hands..."
Damnékos: "You are a true envoy of the gods of Olympia. Since I have this comet in the sky, I knew that a blessing was coming."
Perturabo raised his eyebrow.
Perturabo: "What is a god?"
Damnékos what the divine is but...
Perturabo: "Nonsense and superstition. It's impossible that a god is designed for me. I just learned how to forge. That's all, there is no other explanation."
Perturabo's words surprised his contemporaries but Damnékos remained calm.
Damnékos: "I think we'll get along well Perturabo."
Perturabo was adopted into the ruling family of Lochos and very quickly became a celebrity thanks to his dazzling learning qualities and his cold spirit of pragmatism.
He met his new brothers Herakon and Andos.
But especially his little sister Calliphone. Moreover, a sincere brotherly relationship developed between the two.
Calliphone lovingly nicknaming her adoptive brother "Bo".
Perturabo was very cold towards his two other brothers and they kept their distance from him.
He memorized the Dialectica of Hrastor of Epherium and sent a copy to the philosopher. The old sage of Epherium came to visit him and after a few exchanges, affirmed that he had met a young man with such a sharp mind that he had nothing more to teach him.
These events caused a lot of jealousy and resentment among the other Tyrants of Olympia and tried to assassinate the young man by various means.
One day, he met the ambassador of the city of Regislas who had brought him a cask of very high quality wine. Perturabo had grown well and exceeded 2 meters with great musculature.
Perturabo: "You'd better taste it yourself if it tasted right."
The ambassador was surprised and broke into a cold sweat.
Ambassador: "But the best tasters in town have checked. This wine is of excellent quality."
Perturabo: "In that case, take the first drink as a future ally."
At Perturabo's insistence, the wary gaze of the guards and Calliphone, the ambassador took some wine and drank it.
After a few moments, the ambassador convulses before falling dead on the ground.
Perturabo: "What a miserable traitor..."
Calliphone: "Jealousy knows no bounds, Bo."
Perturabo: "I know Calliphone."
From then on, Perturabo became sickly suspicious.
For the next 10 years, Perturabo strove to create inventions to improve Lochos. Revolutionary architectures and devices greatly improved the life of the Lochosians.
Damnékos tried to approach Perturabo but he remained extremely cold towards him.
At the age of 20, when from the baptism of Perturabo who enters adulthood, Damnékos proposed to him to change his name according to the tradition of Lochos but the latter stubbornly refused and Perturabo remains Perturabo.
One day, the prince-tyrant of Kardis, the proud Adophus arrived in Lochos to discuss an alliance to Damnékos but especially to meet Perturabo.
Prince Adophus with his priest Rodask of Byzellion met Perturabo and Damnekos at Lochos.
Adophus: "So it's thanks to you that Lochos is such a beautiful city. To be honest, I'm jealous."
Perturabo: "Know that with this alliance your city will be as beautiful as Lochos."
Adophus: "But I want to get to the bottom of it. To see if you really are the prodigy everyone is talking about. Show me."
Perturabo: "You wanted it..."
Perturabo accompanied the prince to the throne room and then the prince sat down on a chair at Perturabo's request.
Perturabo: "Believe me, you will recognize yourself perfectly in this portrait. And I am weighing my words."
Adophus: "Do..."
Perturabo placed his portrait and after almost ten minutes sketching his portrait. He returned it.
The prince was surprised to see his face in this painting, reproduced in great detail. The priest was too.
Rodask: "Amazing in every detail..."
Adophus: "Hm... If you manage to reproduce your plans with such ease... only you could reproduce the buildings of Lochos. But that's not all..."
Perturabo: "That is to say?"
Rodask: "I heard that you refute the gods of Olympia. Saying it's all lies and fallacy. I must contradict you. I asked the prince to join him on his journey to you. I'm sure I can enlighten your lost soul."
Perturabo: "Then prove to me the existence of your gods."
Rodask: "Of course... The green flames that pass through the sky are the work of the Night God of Olympia. He made it shine to show the way to travelers. Then, when the reddening mountains spat out great blocks, it is the god of fire who coughs which prevents him from breathing the air.
Finally, the sky goddess drops stones to destroy the things she finds foul in her eyes."
Perturabo: "Hm... Beautiful fables. The god of the night you speak of is only the star that shines on us. When his hot rays reach us, some are so powerful reach deep into the sky but are stopped and burn as a result. We see them at night because the star no longer shines.
Fire-breathing mountains are just the result of an active planet like ours. The fire rises from the depths of the earth before emerging from these mountains which serve as chimneys.
Finally, the blocks of stone falling from the sky are simply due to the fact that there is not only Olympia here. There is also Terra and innumerable worlds which revolve around stars but also remains of planets, simple pebbles which at certain times crash into worlds like ours. It is you who deserve to be enlightened."
Rodask was surprised at such an argument but Perturabo decided to continue.
Perturabo: "You are like those who see only the shadows of the cave. Whereas it is necessary to look at the light which illuminates them: the real truth."
Calliphone: "What is he talking about father?"
Damnekos: "I have no idea... Better not try to understand."
Rodask: "If you say it is not due to the gods the things that happen. But who are you in that? No human would be as strong, nor as intelligent as you. Also, I think you come down from the sky . Rumors travel far."
Perturabo: "I am not the child of the gods. Simply, a child of a man that I myself do not understand."
The others raised their eyebrows.
Damnekos: "Enough talk. Let's be clear Adophus. If your mightiest warrior can defeat my son. pounds of money every year.
Otherwise, you will have to accept the alliance and a free trade."
Adophus: "I see... Deal made. Let Ortraxes Falk come!"
The fearsome warrior of all Pellékontia after a few moments, bowed reverently to the prince then drew his sword to challenge Perturabo to a duel.
But the latter took the chair that served for the model as a weapon and lifted it like a feather.
The warrior of Kardis threw himself against perturabo and brought down his sword on the chair which split at his terrible blow. But Perturabo hit with the chair and knocked out his opponent who fell unconscious.
Adophus was surprised but Damnekos and Calliphone remained impassive.
Calliphone: "At least it was fast."
Damnekos: "I hope you don't betray your word, Prince Adophus."
Adophus: "Oh! Of course... it was an honor to meet you Perturabo... Now, excuse me, I have to leave."
The prince's guards carry the stunned warrior out of the throne room and the prince leaves.
Damnekos: "I think our future will be for the best."
Calliphone: "I wonder..."
During the other years that followed, Lochos became the most prosperous and advanced city.
Perturabo had rediscovered Olympia's mechanical war machines as well as rifles, troop carriers, bombs, machine guns, and cannons.
Perturabo decided after all this to wage a war. A war to end wars, a war to unify Olympia.
Thus, he was in front of Calliphone.
Calliphone: "Be careful Bo."
Perturabo: "Don't worry. When I come back, there will be only peace."
He turned and left with the armies he had made with his own hands.
Cities were conquered by force one after another.
He destroyed the fortifications of the enemies with his tactical genius but also by ruthlessly sending his soldiers to death for strategic needs.
One day, he looked in front of Mount Telephus which is almost 9000 meters high while marching in the city.
Perturabo looked at the mountain and saw a light surrounding a person.
He didn't understand but squinting, he realized one thing: it was his father. His one and only true father waiting for him.
Perturabo took an aircraft, leave Lochos and flew as high as possible on the mountain.
His memories, his life and everything he had done didn't matter to him anymore.
Seeing that the flying device could not climb any higher, he crashed it against the mountain and continued to climb with his hands.
He continued to climb the mountain with great fear.
He feared that his father would not recognize him, of finding a cruel father, or even of having mistaken the identity of the being who was waiting for him up there.
The higher he climbed, the more he felt the effects of the altitude.
As he reached the top, his fingers had no grip and Perturabo lost his balance.
But to his surprise, a hand covered with a golden gauntlet caught him and dragged him upwards.
Perturabo saw his father for the first time. Full of humility, he knelt down.
Emperor: "Hello my son."
Perturabo: "Hello father..."
Perturabo then saw a blonde woman alongside the man.
Salem: "Don't forget me my child."
Emperor: "I am so proud of your deeds. A united and advanced world thanks to your deeds."
Perturabo: "I swear I would serve you father."
Emperor: "In that case, be the Lord of Iron. The IV Legion awaits you."
Salem: "Besides, I have a lot to teach you and I would like to meet your family."
Perturabo: "...Good."
Later... in Lochos.
The Emperor converses with the ruler of the city of Lochos.
While Salem is with Calliphone.
Calliphone: "So you're Bo's mother?"
Salem: "Yes. So how was Perturabo here?"
Calliphone was rather hesitant.
Calliphone: "Bo is a real brother to me. But the rest of the time he's pretty cold to everyone. Besides, now that you're here and he seems like depart on your Great Crusade. Please ensure that he does not treat his soldiers and followers as interchangeable tools."
Salem was surprised at Calliphone's words but smiled.
Salem: "Don't worry. I'll remind him that he's not alone. Especially when he has to take Kariady with him."
Calliphone: "Kariady?"
Salem: "His brother Roboute Guilliman's daughter. As an uncle, he should get to know his family."
Calliphone: "So I have to welcome Kariady as an aunt?"
Salem: "Indeed. Hold on."
She showed Kariady a small photo of Kariady when she was 12 years old.
Calliphone: "She's cute."
To be continued... the Childhood of the little niece.
Kariady grew up a princely life on Macragge, one day his father Roboute Guilliman.
