Chapter One: In The Den of The Viper
Hey guys. My name is GarlicBreadKing and this is my first Chicago Med fanfic. I really hope you guys enjoy it cause I came in very late to the series. (around Season 8). This is a NataliexWill fanfic. If you don't like the pairing, then there are plenty of other stories for you to enjoy.
I've been writing Fireman Sam fanfiction for a rather long time so this is new to me. Let me know what you guys think or if there are details I'm missing.
Trigger warning for dark topics and scenes of experimentation ahead.
Will had a nasty gash above his head from the blow he had received out in the airport parking lot. His vision blurred in and out slowly. His arms and legs were bound to a chair. He had a piece of tape over his mouth. He heard the door in front of him open. A tall shadow slipped into the room. Will moaned into his gag. He struggled as the shadow came close to him. The shadow grabbed another metal chair. It dragged it close to him.
"Well. Well. What a fine specimen we have here." mused the figure.
Will eyed the figure. The figure grabbed him by the hair suddenly. He turned his head to the side a few times. Will tried to move away but the figure had a firm grip. "It's a same the boss wants us to ship you off. You'd be a great fit for our latest project."
Will growled quietly. The figure laughed. "Oh. Don't try to act so brave. You brought this on yourself. If only you kept your nose clean, boy." The figure then stood up. He untied Will from his chair. He kept a firm hold on his arms.
Will was escorted out of the room. A white van waited for him outside. He was forcefully shoved into it. He laid on his side. He felt the van shift suddenly. The van drove out of an alleyway. Will had been taken to a warehouse. Will winced when the van hit a bump. He wasn't sure where his captors were taking him now.
He slowly sat upright. The ropes rubbed against his skin painfully. He thought about the events that had lead to his kidnapping. He had left Chicago without telling his family. The only ones that knew were his family at Med. His heart sank. He also had promised Natalie that he would get there in one piece.
The driver lowered his rear view mirror. "You'd best get comfortable, buddy. It's a long drive for you."
Will looked down. He began fiddling with his ropes. He managed to loosen them up just enough to free his arms. He then reached for the bit of tape on his mouth. He ripped it off. He could finally breathe again. He looked up at the driver who was distracted by the road. He grabbed the bit of road in his hand. He wrapped it around the driver's throat. The driver swerved out of control. The passenger next to him grabbed a taser off his belt. He struck Will with it. Will yelped. He fell backwards. He compulsed in the back of the van.
The driver pulled over to the side of the road. He got out. He went over to where Will was. Will twitched helplessly on the ground. He looked up at the driver. "P-Please." he begged.
The driver brought his fist down on Will's head. Will saw his world go black. He laid there quietly. The driver went back to the front. He got off the shoulder. He stole glances at Will every so often. "If that asshole wakes up, tase his ass again."
The passenger nods. "I really hope you didn't kill him. The boss's orders were to make sure he lived."
"I only gave him a blow to the head. He'll be fine." said the driver dismissively.
Will had bright light shining in his eyes. He slowly came to. His head was pounding. He found himself staring at the side of the van. He felt somebody drag him toward them. Will reared his fists back. He went to throw hands with his captor. He got struck in the side with a taser. Will yelped in pain.
The captors quickly got him bound again. They dragged him to his feet. Will struggled weakly. "Where are you bastards taking me?" he rasped.
"There's somebody who wants to see you is all." one of them replied.
Will could barely stay upright. His head hurt. He looked around. He noticed he was in a sterile environment. It didn't look like any place or hospital he'd know. They had a firm hold of his arms. One of them pressed a button for an elevator.
Will was escorted onto the elevator. It was a bit of a tight squeeze. Blood trickled down his face. He eyed one of the men standing next to him. He began thinking of ways to subdue the people who held him captive. He didn't care if he got tased again. He would do his best to get free.
The elevator doors opened. He was walked out of it. He followed the people around him. He noticed that down below of them was a rather large mess hall. There were people in white clothing. He frowned. What was this place?
He was lead into a rather large room. There were screens against the back wall. A familiar figure stood in the center of the room. The figure smiled. "Hello Will."
Will felt his blood run cold. He had been lead into the viper's pit. He stared directly into the eyes of Jack Dayton. Jack laughed. "Oh. Don't look so shocked, Will. You knew Karma was coming." He looked to the other figures with Will. "Leave us."
The figures left the room. Will's arms were suddenly free. He growled weakly. "Bastard. I should of known."
Jack leaned against the console behind him. "Relax, Halstead. Let's talk. I actually have a job offer for you."
Will eyed him. "I don't plan on working for a bastard like you. Now let me go."
Jack frowned. "I'm afraid I can't do that. You know too much, Will. You would be too much of a..liability to just let you walk out of here."
"A liability? How so?"
Jack eyed him up and down. "I know what you did to OR 2.0. I can't say that I appreciate that. Now, let me get back to my offer. I want you to work for me, Will. You see this new lab that I've sunk money into will be the forefront of feature medicine. I need a man like you to help me operate it."
"And if I refuse?"
Jack chuckled darkly. "I think a man like you is smart enough to not refuse."
Will stared directly into his eyes. All he could see was a serpent staring back at him. He said nothing. Jack leaned back on his hands. "Oh Will. Don't make this any harder than it needs to be. After all, you brought this on your self."
Jack turned to the console behind him. "Perhaps you need convincing." The screens head of Will flickered to a variety of images. Will instantly paled. He saw Natalie among the sea of photos. "You-you leave them out of this. This quarrel is between you and I."
Jack smiled. "Then do we have a deal, son?"
Will swallowed back a hard lump. He didn't make eye contact. "Fine."
"Good boy." Jack snapped his fingers. The figures from before entered the room. "Take him into a nice room. Make sure he's geared up."
Will was escorted out of the room. He couldn't believe that Jack would target his friends and family. I need to find a way out of here. Hopefully Natalie has sounded the alarm by now. As much as I don't want her to be involved in any more of my drama. He followed the figures. I just need to play along for now. Maybe there's a way I can communicate with Natalie? He thought.
They entered the elevator again. Will looked at one of the figures. They moved their hand toward their taser in warning. Will gulped. The doors opened. He was taken to what looked to be a private lab with a private dorm attached. There was a variety of paperwork on the desk. The figures undid the rest of their bindings. They then left Will alone in the room.
Will walked around the perimeter of the room. He was a bit lost as to what to do. He sat down on the edge of the bed. The bed was surprisingly comfortable. He reached into his pocket. His phone had been taken. He let out an annoyed sigh. Figures. He placed his hands on either side of the bed.
He heard a knock at his door. The door then opened. Jack walked into his room. "Here's to hoping that you are comfortable. You will have quite the workload in the days to come."
"What exactly do you require me to do?" asked Will. He wanted this man out of his room.
"Well I need you to over see the medical side of the experiments that go on here." Jack slid the notes across the table. "I left these here for you to read."
"Are these "tests" you are doing, ethical? I don't see a man of your stature following laws." sarked Will.
Jack's eyes narrowed. "I can assure you that what we do here doesn't harm anyone. Your friend, Dr. Song has so graciously been overseeing everything too."
"Then why do you need me? She has more know how and clearly kisses up to you." snapped Will.
"Like I said, Will, you are a liability. If the knowledge you have falls into the wrong hands, then oh boy, that little hospital you worked for is fucked." Jack went toward the door. "Try to see things from my point of view, Will. All of this is to keep you out of trouble."
"Jack."
Jack's hand paused at the door knob. "Yes Will?"
"I want access to a phone. I want to be able to reach somebody. I don't trust you keeping an eye on them." demanded Will.
Jack looked to him. "Very well. That can be arranged. However, there's on stipulation."
"You've already gotten me by my balls, Jack. You aren't getting anything more from me." growled Will.
Jack sighed. "Fine. We'll arrange for you to be able to communicate with the outside world. You just can't talk about what we do here." Jack then left the room.
Will sat in silence for a bit. He had a sinking feeling in his stomach. The door to his room opened. A figure entered his room. They slid something across the table toward him. Will stood up. He headed over to the table. There was a phone on his desk. He quickly grabbed it. The phone was turned off.
Will's fingers fumbled to turn it on. He could feel his heart beating in his chest. The phone hummed to life. He discovered that it was unlocked however it had Jack's company logo as the background. Will curled his lip in disgust. He went to the keypad. He dialed Natalie's number.
The phone rang a couple of times before a female voice picked up. Hello?
"Natalie!"
Oh my god! Will! Where the hell are you? I've been ringing you over and over again! I'm so worried! She exclaimed.
Will bit his lip. "I wished I could tell you, Nat. I'm in a rather tough situation right now. I'm so sorry."
What's going on? Are you in trouble? Do you want me to reach out to Jay? She asked.
"You could call it trouble, yeah. Listen, I'll tell you what I can. I'm currently being held captive by Jack Dayton. He wants me to work for him in exchange for everyone staying alive."
Will, that's messed up! I have to reach out to Jay. We'll find a way to free you. Where even are you?
"Some facility. Nat, I want you to listen to me. I'm going to play his game for now. While I do that, I want you to work hard on trying to find me. Tell Jay to keep everyone at Chicago Med safe. The last thing I want is for any one of you to get hurt."
You don't have to worry about me. I can handle myself. It's you I'm more worried about. He didn't hurt you, did he?
"I'm fine, Nat. I'm honestly fine. I'll try to call you every day. It depends on how busy I'll be."
I'll wait to hear your calls each day. It'll be tough without you.
"I know. Nat, I love you. Please take care of yourself. Stay out of trouble. I mean it this time."
I love you too, Will.
Will heard her hang up. He set the phone down on the nightstand. He sighed as he laid down. Exhaustion took hold of him. He soon drifted off to sleep.
Do let me know what you guys think. I look forward to reading your reviews.
