Summary: Paula Symes is former Detective Sargeant Gerry Standing's old flame from the 1970s, how will he feel when he meets Paula at an annual London Metropolitan Police Awards and Dance? They would have been the power couple in their day with a feisty relationship.
Paula Symes is portrayed by Beth Goddard and DS Gerry Standing is portrayed by the late Dennis Waterman for character references.
"Cor, you're still a smasher!" replied ex DS Gerry Standing bumping into Paula Symes at the annual Metropolitan Police Awards and Dance which took place at the Grosvenor Hotel as they hadn't seen each other for nearly 40 years.
"I had a thing for you in the 70s when you were in the Flying Squad, you drove a gold Ford Granada in those days," remarked Paula Symes wearing a blue, black dress with a gold medallion necklace and greying blonde hair.
"That's right, Paula. I thought that's why you felt so at home." said DS Gerry Standing about her husband "Aren't you the sister in law to my Guv's first husband?"
"You haven't changed with your ways!" Paula Symes added angrily as her history with Gerry Standing crawled out of the woodwork "You were married to the job and cheated on me before marrying your fourth ex wife."
"I had heard you've married a young copper years younger than you in 1997, so don't give me all that crap, Paula." former DS Gerry Standing snarled angrily wondering what it could have been had Paula Symes stayed married to him. "Paula, you are old enough to have been his mum for God's sake!"
The London Metropolitan Police Gala Awards welcomed an assortment of faces as they celebrated the achievements of brave police officers in the line of duty.
He preferred to play on his old flame grandchildren's Nintendo Wii bemoaning the lack of football games in the collection. "Cor, let's have a go. Can you play football manager on it?"
"No, you can't Gerry, it has Mario Kart, Just Dance and other kiddie games on there." replied Paula Symes who wasn't surprised her old flame hadn't changed a bit apart from ageing.
Gerry Standing had a gold Ford Granada Mk1 in his younger days working for the London Metropolitan Police Flying Squad unit as a Detective Sergeant in the 1970s working with someone who was later found to be corrupt but passed away from cancer in 2002.
Just a little something to set the scene and warm up for my first BBC New Tricks fanfiction, enjoy!
