AUTHOR'S NOTE:
Hello, and welcome to my first ever fanfiction. The concept of this story is to take 20 different Pokemon Trainers from the Pokemon series, and have them participate in a "Danganronpa-style" killing game. In this killing game, each trainer will be able to use their Pokemon as "murder weapons" to kill the other trainers.
(If you are not familiar with the Danganronpa series, I highly recommend looking it up before reading this story. It's an awesome murder-mystery series!)
To avoid having too many characters in this story, I will only be including characters up to Gen 5. So, there will be no characters from Gen 6 onwards in this story.
Pokemon is the property of Nintendo, Game Freak and the Pokemon Company.
Pokémon: The Ultimate Killing Game for Ultimate Trainers
Prologue: The Pokémon of Despair (Part 1)
"Wake up, wake up! We need your help, Red!"
Red opened his eyes to find himself looking at someone who he had never met before. However, Red certainly recognised the man's face.
"What on earth… where am I? And what are YOU doing here? Steven Stone, am I correct?", Red asked, feeling like he was in some sort of dream.
"Ah… yes, Red. I am indeed Steven Stone," replied the blue-haired former champion. "I think it is an honour to meet you. Although, I wish we did not have to have our first meeting under such strange circumstances," Steven replied.
"Strange circumstances… how on earth did I get here? I thought I was at my home in Pallet Town last night. Did I get kidnapped by someone? By an obsessive fan? By a former member of Team Rocket?" Red asked, half-jokingly.
"Red, I don't know any more than you do," Steven replied in a unusually dour tone. "We should work together and find out what is going on here. We need to talk to the others."
"Others?" Red finally looked around and realised that the building he was in appeared to be a huge Pokemon battling arena, with several rectangular areas marked with Poke Ball symbols, indicating locations appropriate for serious Pokemon battles. But it was not like any battling arena Red had ever been to before. All the windows on the sides of the arena were bolted shut, letting no natural light in. It was a stark contrast to the arenas Red was familiar with, which allowed sunlight to seep in from all directions. But more shockingly, Red saw that he and Steven were far from the only Pokemon Trainers in this arena. There were more than a dozen trainers scattered across the expansive arena.
Looking directly to his left, Red saw two more Trainers he never expected to see: Clair and Karen, both from the Johto region. Clair was known as the greatest Gym Leader in all of Johto; Karen was even more famous, being both respected and feared as the current strongest member of the Indigo Plateau's Elite Four.
"Steven, we need to talk to them!" Red exclaimed. Steven nodded and the pair approached the two female Trainers.
"Karen, Clair! What are you two doing here?" asked Red, talking unusually quickly and loudly.
"Red and Steven! You two really are the real deal… I couldn't believe my eyes," said Karen with a surprisingly big smile on her face. "Maybe we do have a chance of getting out of this."
"Karen, I think you overestimate their abilities," said Clair, deliberately rolling her eyes. "They may be former champions, but I don't think they are familiar with dealing with mass kidnappings of elite Trainers".
Red was stunned. So I might actually have been kidnapped… he thought, ashamed with the thought that he may have failed to protect himself.
"If we have really been kidnapped…" Red started, "then could have they taken some of our Pokemon as well? Oh no…" Red checked inside of his jacket, in which he usually kept at least one Poke Ball at all times. It was empty.
"Dear Arceus… they really took my Pokemon. Snorlax was in my jacket yesterday…" At this point, Red finally realised how awful this situation really was.
"That is no surprise to me!" argued Clair. "We may be known as powerful Trainers, but our 'power' only comes from the power of our Pokemon. Without them, we are merely normal, pathetic, insignificant human beings."
Red quickly accepted that Clair was right. He was known as one of the greatest trainers of the world, despite only being 16 years old. However, he knew he was not particularly strong physically or athletically, nor he was a genius outside of the realm of Pokemon battling. If Red had to fight back against his potential kidnappers, he didn't stand much of a chance.
After talking to Karen and Clair for a while, Red and Steven were left feeling more despair in their hearts than they had felt in years.
"Red, I know we are in a bad situation, but we need to stay calm," implored Steven, although he was clearly struggling to sound calm himself. "Let's split up for now. I'll go talk to that woman over there. You should talk to that boy." Steven pointed to a teenage boy standing about fifteen metres from them. Red nodded and walked towards him. While walking over, he turned to glance at Steven, and saw the woman Steven was now shouting out to was a tall blonde-haired woman he also recognised. What the hell? SHE'S here too?! Is this some very expensive prank? thought Red as he stepped closer to the teenage boy. Red realised that this boy was also someone he had seen on TV and in magazines before.
"Red! I'm glad you are here! I need as much help as I can get", the teenage boy explained with a big grin on his face.
"Lucas? You're the champion of the Sinnoh League, aren't you? I don't you think need help from a former champion like me," Red said in a self-deprecating manner.
"Red, sir, Mr. Red, Sir Red... should I call you that?" Lucas asked, barely containing his excitement.
"Just Red is fine with me…" Red said slowly, feeling reminded of many interactions with his most obsessive fans.
"Okay, Red, sir, I believe we are in much safer hands with you around. I'm certain of that. You may be young, but you are one of the most talented Trainers in the world."
"You're also a very talented Trainer, and you are even younger than I am," Red said, still surprised by how humble the Sinnoh Champion was being.
Red and Lucas chatted for a few more minutes, and then Red looked around for more Trainers to talk to. Red wanted to know everyone who was in this mysterious arena with him.
"I'm Bugsy, the Bug-type master! Nice to meet you, Red!" said the next person Red talked to. Red initially assumed he was a girl, and was surprised to hear he had a rather deep and masculine voice. Red had studied all of the active gym leaders in Kanto and Johto, but he realised he had completely forgot about Bugsy's existence until that conversation. Red privately thought it was a bit odd for one of the most infamously weak gym leaders to be in this arena filled with elite trainers, but Red kept such thoughts to himself.
"Hello, Red of Pallet Town. My name is Cheren. I am from the Unova region, I trust you have heard of it? You may expect me to shower praise on you as the others here have, but I am not a bootlicker. I will show respect to you only if you show genuine respect to me. Being a former Champion may make you a powerful Trainer, but it does not mean you are a good person." This bespectacled Trainer was one Red did not recognise at all. Red thought it was best not to question him, as he seemed very uptight and disinterested in further conversation.
"Red, it is great to see a familiar face. It was not long ago that we last met, but you are always someone I can rely on." Red was talking to Misty, the Water-type Gym leader of Cerulean City, who had become good friends with Red following his resignation from the Champion position. Red was glad to have a friend with him in this bizarre situation, although he also felt afraid for the potential danger Misty was in.
In one of the corners of the massive arena, Red saw a tall black-haired man wearing a dark suit and red tie, who was standing far away from the other Trainers. Red walked closer to the man to get a better look. Red's eyes widened as he accepted who he was looking at.
As he quickened his pace, Red shouted out:
"Giovanni… YOU'RE the one behind this, aren't you?!"
AUTHOR'S NOTE: Thank you reading the first part of my fanfic! Future parts should be longer than this one. Please review and tell me how I can improve. Also, see if you can guess which other Trainers will be included in the killing game!
