January 2018-
"Please help me" she sunk to the bland patterned carpet and let out a desperate whimper "I can't do this anymore".
October 2016-
"I got all I need when I got you and I, I look around me, and see a sweet life, I'm stuck in the dark but you're my flashlight, You're getting me, getting me through the night, Kick start my heart when you shine it in my eyes, Can't lie, it's a sweet life, I'm stuck in the dark but you're my flashlight, You're getting me, getting me through the night, 'Cause you're my flashlight (flashlight), You're my flashlight (flashlight), You're my flashlight."
Stevie cut the engine to her car, throwing her into silence, although the song was still playing through her head, it wasn't her favourite but something she would listen to on the radio, or she was feeling down. Staring up at the building that over the last few years had become her second home, where she saw the people she classed as her family. She watched for a few moments, a big change started today. Neil Manson was set to become the new superintendent. Jack Meadows had decided on retirement a few weeks ago after a mild heart attack had shown him there really was more to life than the job, even though he had popped in every day on the run up to Neil officially taking over.
The bang on the car window startled her and glancing out she waved to her fair haired colleague, her friend, or 'her brother from another mother' as he worded it. "You won't be impressing the new DI sitting in there Serge" he was laughing through a toothy smile.
"I'm coming Mickey" grabbing her bag and jacket from the passenger seat next to her and climbing from the car, she slammed the door closed and clicked to lock the car before jogging to catch him up. "You are looking rough, heavy night?"
"Went clubbing with uniform but, you would of known that if you hadn't of blown me out"
"I'm sorry, it was a rough few days".
They started to ascend the stairs, Mickey gave her a sympathetic smile, five weeks ago she had received a phone call to say her mother has passed away, she had suffered a stroke and hadn't been found for eight days, Stevie had felt so guilty, her mum was her last living relative and she had let her down when she needed her most, two days ago she had buried her mum, alone. Only Mickey had known the hurt she was going through, the devastation she felt of being so alone in the world.
Reaching the top of the stairs they both turned to the voice of the man jogging up behind them. "Mickey, Manson is waiting for us in his office". Mickey nodded to Smithy and turned to walk towards the supers office. "Morning gorgeous" Smithy gave Stevie a cheeky wink before heading in the same direction as the other man.
Stevie watched them go before heading over to the large doors to CID, pulling them open and heading inside, plastering a huge grin to her face and giving a cheery hello to her family, the only people she had left.
"And that is your office Gov and these are the misfits we call CID" Mickeys voice alerted Stevie to the two men entering the room and she looked up to see who was interrupting the peace, albeit boringness of paperwork.
The man had a smart pair of black jeans, met by a white shirt, he had the top three buttons open, revealing a small amount of chest hair. His skin was tanned, he had cute, thin lips and piercing brown eyes, his hair was extremely short, she guessed he had shaved it fresh this morning. He had slight stumble on his face, which struck Stevie as a bit odd, everything else about him looked so fresh, but she would come to learn it was a feature he always had. Stevie felt her heart skip a beat, this man was gorgeous, he was beyond gorgeous. She felt butterflies skipping round her stomach and as his eyes caught hers, she quickly diverted hers back to her computer screen.
"And this is DS Moss" she heard Mickeys voice and glancing up, she realised the man was stood over her desk "You need the gossip, she is the one you go too"
"Thanks DC Webb but I'm not here for the gossip, maybe we can pick the tour up a bit later" his voice was deep and he had an Irish accent that sent Stevie into a downwards spiral of what his voice would sound like in the bedroom, whispering sweet nothings. "DS Moss" looking back up to him he let out a confused look "I said, do you a few moments?"
"Of course, after you" rising to her feet, she followed the man quickly into his office.
"It's nice to finally meet you DS Moss, I have heard many good things about you"
"Oh, erm, thank you" Stevie internally screamed at herself, who the hell was this pathetic person, surprised her new boss was impressed by her career, damn her career was impressive.
"Yes, well I run a tight ship and I have high expectations of you, but I'm sure you will crush them" he winked. Oh, God he winked at her, her stomach was summersaulting now. "Is there anything else you wish to discuss?" the man asked. Shit, she had been stood motionless in this man's office, she had made such a fool of herself on day one.
"Erm, no, thank you DI, erm"
"DI Flynn, Declan Flynn".
