Jamie was quiet as he came into the bedroom and stripped down to his boxers. Eddie was fast asleep as he pulled the covers back and climbed in. His face lit up as he got a look at what she was wearing. She was facing towards him. Pulling her close to him, he leaned in and whispered to her.
"You remembered."
With her eyes closed, she gave him a sleepy smile.
"Of course I did. But I think I'm going to change into something more comfortable. Lace makes me itch. I didn't have that problem before."
Getting up from the bed, Eddie made her way to the bathroom and swung the door closed slightly. Turning the light on, she looked at herself in the mirror. Her skin was red and splotchy and little red welts resembling pimples were starting to form. She stuck her head out the door and called for Jamie.
"Jamie?"
Pushing himself off the bed, he came into the bathroom and looked at her.
"Eddie, you need to change out of that right now. You're having an allergic reaction to the lace."
Eddie began to protest.
"But I got these bra and underwear just for you. My throat's getting kind of itchy."
Jamie shook his head and pointed at her.
"Doesn't matter. Allergies are serious medical conditions. You know. I'm allergic to olives. I'll get you something different to wear. I think I have an epi pen in my bag. I'll be right back."
Eddie stood right where she was and waited for Jamie to come back. Jamie was quick to find her a change of clothes. But also grabbing for the epi pen and his stethoscope.
Jamie was in professional mode right now. Rushing back into the bathroom. He quickly helped her change into her other pair of clothes. He saw Eddie scratching at her throat. He could hear a slight wheeze when she breathed. Taking a deep breath, he helped her sit down on the floor explained what he was doing.
"I'm not going to lie Eddie; this is not going to feel good when I inject this epi pen into your thigh. Try and relax, ok?"
Eddie grabbed a hold of Jamie who was now sitting on the floor next to her. He'd taken her in his arms and held her tight. She felt like something had hit her chest at a million miles an hour. She let out a sob and Jamie rubbed her back.
"I know. I'm sorry. I know that hurt. I'm right here babe. Just keep taking deep breaths."
It was a few minutes before she finally felt like she could actually breathe. Her skin wasn't splotchy anymore but the tiny pimple like welts were still there. Shaking his head, Jamie grabbed for his stethoscope on the counter, putting the earpieces in his ears and listened to her breathe for a minute. Satisfied he explained himself.
"That's better. Your lungs sound clear. But we should still get you to the hospital. Get you checked out."
Eddie frowned.
"Jamie I'm fine."
Jamie shook his head.
"No, you're not fine babe. I could've lost you. We're going to the hospital."
After a couple of hours in the hospital, Jamie and Eddie were now back home and in bed. He ran his right hand through her blond locks. She looked up at him with a look of disappointment.
"I'm sorry I ruined our night. Being stuck in the hospital being given a liquid antihistamine wasn't what I meant by time spent with you. Time spent meant us being here, holding each other. I had such a great surprise for you too."
Jamie's frown turned into a smile as Eddie whispered into his ear.
"Well, some of that we might have to save until our wedding night."
Eddie now had a smile of her own to give Jamie. She had to admit, she was alive, and she owed Jamie her life. He'd saved her twice now.
