Saito Dosan and his tactician Akechi Mitsuhide were amazed by what they were looking at, in a matter of a couple of days, the blacksmiths of Owari had turned the previous armor Nobuna's troops wore into something that they had never seen before, it made them able to withstand blows that would have killed them had they been wearing their previous armor, but the shocking thing is that the pellets that they fired had been forged into something that could cause nightmares in any simple-minded fool that saw what they did when they hit the target.
They had no clue that Yoshiharu was an expert gunsmith, and as such he used his knowledge and turned the simple pellets they once fired into something akin to a pellet that would fly through the air easier, faster, and was shaped in such a way that it would bore right through one target and hit the person that was right behind the target. When Sirius looked at it he called it hollow-point musket ammo, the armor was not the only thing that changed the very muskets changed as well, they can be loaded faster, and the pan could hold a secondary charge, so in theory, if a person was quick enough they could fire twice in rapid succession.
"You know Akechi, I have been hearing rumors about two new men that work for Nobuna, some say they are insane people that claim to be from the future, and some people say that they can do magic that makes them literal demons, what do you think of those two?" She looked at him and smiled as she said that as long as they have a heart and they can bleed, it means they are no different that any enemy, they can be killed and die just like anyone else.
Saito asked her if she was so sure that they could win as he looked through his spyglass, he did not like the looks of it, five hundred musket-using troops, but as he was about to look at them a little better as they got closer Akechi took the spyglass from him and began to look. "five hundred troops using those barbarian toys, nothing my troops can't handle", except there is something wrong here, as she finally noticed the muskets and how they were carrying them she screamed as to say why the hell are they doing that.
Saito got a better look and saw they were marching with the flint lit and the muskets pointing up, "It seems you can't trust all rumors, she is not as foolish as we were lead to believe, they look like they are ready to fire at a moments notice. It will be impossible to catch them by surprise, indeed, I am going to enjoy meeting Nobuna, a lot more than I initially thought I would it seems. Sirius strapped a spyglass to a musket and was looking at them as they were marching towards the designated meeting place, had this thing been an actual rifle, with a rifled barrel, he could have shot the troop that was right next to the Viper as a warning shot, but this would defeat the purpose of the meeting so in an ironic way, the fact that this was not a rifle kept him from making a terrible mistake, because he almost listened to his base instinct to kill.
"Well, at least we get to enjoy a lovely hike through all this, I honestly don't remember seeing these forests in the future, I wonder what the hell happened to them." Sirius look at Yoshiharu and simply told him that they were cut down to be used to build ships. Deforestation had some unintended consequences however, without the trees the ground could not retain as much water, so this led to both floods and mudslides, but the emperor at the time didn't think about what his actions would cause or care, he wanted to use those ships to increase his fleet, regardless of the consequences.
Katsuie hearing this asked Sirius why would building those ships be that important, she understood after hearing this was mostly done to stop the threat of nearby pirates, and once they were taken care of the ships that still could sail would join the fleet of fishing ships that supplied the imperial palace. "Out of a dozen ships, only four survived after the pirates were sent to their watery graves, and those became fishing ships, that supplied fish and other marine life to the palace kitchen, thanks to that division that is in charge of supplying, cooking, and preparing food for the imperial family, the imperial family was also the most well-fed and they enjoyed foods most commoners could only dream about. As long as you ignore the hundreds that would later die due to those consequences I mentioned before, but they were commoners who died."
Yoshiharu simply scoffed and said no better than when a queen saw her people starve and she was supposedly heard saying let them eat cake. "It is true common citizens should not fear their rulers, instead the rulers should fear the common citizens if properly motivated, or just basically pissed off enough, they can form a revolt and if they get their hands of enough weapons, they can not only burn a ruler's palace but also leave that ruler and his family to burn to death within it. An effective ruler must take care to care about his citizens and look out for the well-being of not themselves but the nation, it is a dangerous balancing act, but nobody said leading a nation would be a simple matter."
Nobuna began to think this was stuff she could later use when and if she ever had to fight against invading barbarians, and she understood this only too well, her territory of Owari, there was a reason why she made certain the people in the territory could feel or believe they could lead a good life there, and many of her troops were volunteers that joined to thank her for helping them, friends or family, so deep down she understood what both Sirius and Yoshiharu were both talking about, but she was more worried about the meeting with the Viper at the moment, getting Mino would be vital, and if they could gain an alliance with Dosan then that would help them even more. She just didn't know what they would do to help her convince Viper, he was an extremely successful merchant and could see through lies, so tricking him would only insult him.
As they finally made it to the meeting area, Saito Dosan was wearing some rather casual, everyday clothes, which according to his tactician is a bit underdressed for a meeting with the head of the Oda Clan, Dosan told her that it would not matter anyways because she is probably going to attend the meeting wearing something casual, thinking this entire prospect is hard enough, to make it even harder by wearing stuffy clothes. Sirius and Yoshiharu were secretly sneaking as they used their mental link ability to comment that this guy has no clue at all about how women usually think, All the while wondering how would Nobuna show up, only for Yoshiharu and Dosan get shocked to see her after she puts some effort in her appearance, wearing a dress that not only heightens her good features but makes her breathtakingly beautiful, Sirius honestly thinks that this person is a stand-in and that they simply had her look like Nobuna, that is until they both heard that unmistakable tone in her voice, it was so blunt, so unsophisticated, so brutal that it left no chance for this person to be anyone other than Nobuna, or at least that is what Sirius thought of her.
"Look what I want is the ownership of Mino, you knew the importance of that place long before you became lord of that territory, you were born as a merchant, so you know that this one place is where all commerce must travel through to go between the Eastern and Western parts of our nation, Mino shall be a free trade state, which allows trade to flourish only stepping in to stop corrupt or dishonest trade, this is because the person who controls Mino and places a castle there can effectively take over every other territory and thus gain control of the entire country, as you know this only too well, so I came to ask you to join me in my grand goal."
Dosan looked at her and simply tried to figure her out, "And what would this grand goal be Oda?" Nobuna told him that to defend against barbaric invaders their nation requires immense military strength, and as such to protect the nation they must stop all these feudal battles and unify the nation, if this is done successfully they could use resources that are currently being wasted to improve their nation's military capabilities and strength, only by becoming strong can they hope to defend their people against foreign invaders, who only wish to use them for their needs. Never mind that the unification would also end a war that has lasted for decades, and will continue if the nation is not unified, causing untold deaths in both soldiers and citizens, which is an atrocious waste since they are losing so many people and so much talent that it will take decades if not centuries to replace.
He looked at her thinking of a way to get her to become angry and thus unintentionally ruin her attempted negotiation as he finally thought of something he smiled, "Why should I join your faction, Oda, every other faction calls you a fool that abandoned tradition and favors those things that most would call barbarian toys, mere playthings and nothing else." Nobuna told him that it was no secret that the military in her territory once was considered the weakest, but that all changed when she decided to introduce them to muskets and had them train using them, most people may consider them toys, but they are the future of military weaponry, so much so that a squad of one of my squads can take down an entire unit of imperial cavalry with a single attack." This obsession with maintaining old traditions and refusal to adopt new methods out of sheer stubbornness using the excuse that traditions must be maintained regardless of how much harm it caused by ignoring new and better ideas will only make the nation even less able to defend itself, even if the nation is unified if they don't grow the national military strength, other nations will want to invade and turn them all into a slave state.
She went further and told her that her goals do not stop after unification, but rather it included the barbarian nations to the west, which are a major threat to their national security and sovereignty. "Join me, and I promise that I will make your dream of our nation being united once again, under one flag, as a single nation, come true, and do so in a manner that we will be ready to protect against any invaders be they nations or pirates, it has always been a dream of yours as well, and this would stop the needless and pointless deaths that are happening because of all these feudal wars. "
Dosan looked shocked after hearing this and immediately did his best to hide it, but he was amazed at her forward thinking and understanding of why this current feudal era must come to an end, but deep down he wanted to test her resolve, "And to achieve that goal, you will fight and kill anyone that gets in your way, well what if I tell you that I and my house shall be the first to stand in your way, what would you do then." This is exactly what Sirius and Yoshiharu warned her not to do, but it seems that she true their advice to the wind and simply decided to do as she wanted, which to both of them was pretty insane, "Saito Dosan, there is no need for confrontation, only Oda Nobuna can carry on your life goal, and I know because both I and my friend Sirius came from the future, a future which you, yourself, made possible, I know exactly what you are thinking, and we can show you proof that what we speak is true. When this meeting is over, you shall tell your troops, my children shall tie their horses at the gate of the Fool of Owari, we both know that your son has no hope of winning against Nobuna so why bother?"
He looked shocked upon hearing Yoshiharu's words and could only ask what kind of sorcery he was using to read his mind, "I am not like I said I and Sirius came from the future, from the nation that you helped unify, one of the reasons we are here is thanks to your noble efforts in this, Saito Dosan is known as one of the main people who helped unify and promote safety to the people of Japan, the nation where we came from. if you allow us, we can show you many sights that have only come to pass because you helped Nobuna in her shared goal of unifying the nation."
Both Sirius and Yoshiharu walked toward him and with them both using their magic and abilities, they managed to create a large area where many images from their memories and from the very phones they had to appear, amazing sights, things that were thought to be impossible, things that others would consider pure fantasy, as the images ended Dosan began to laugh, "So these are some images and memories from the nation I helped to create, well that takes a load off my back, I suppose I should be proud of seeing the results that came about my current unfinished work, very well, I shall give ownership of Mino, to the daughter of my heart from the Clan of Oda."
Sirius looked at his friend seeing that he too agreed he decided to mention something that was both painful and uncomfortable to Dosan but he needed to know this, "If things were truly that simple, unfortunately, even if you choose to inherit the leadership and ownership of Mino, your adopted son Yoshitatsu will not accept it, and upon hearing this will rally all your officers against you, to go as far as to try and kill you to prevent Nobuna from gaining Mino. It is harsh, it is sad, but yes, he really is that stupid, and as such we instead ask you to keep sending messages that the negotiations are taking longer than expected, in that time both I and Yoshiharu shall train your troops to use, maintain and operate a musket, and provide you with armor much like those worn by the Oda musketeer dragoons, we must do this to ensure you survive the senseless act of betrayal, and because from this moment onward we fight together as one, allies in all, be it in fortune or disaster, as we stand, we shall fight and help each other, all for one and one for all."
Dosan began to think about what Sirius and Yoshiharu told him, everything made sense, even Nobuna's mother no longer holds her daughter in high regard and often calls her either insane or a fool, bemoaning the fact she wished she had a child who was at least as level headed as her youngest instead of what Nobuna was, so the fact that Yoshitatsu would react that violently after hearing he passed on the territory to Nobuna, is not something he could dismiss as impossible, in fact thinking it over, it was a very likely reaction since his son was so impulsive.
That made him realize something, a mistake that these two mentioned to him, "I understand everything you told me, and you are right, Yoshitatsu would not agree to hand over Mino, especially someone whom he considers a foolish clan head, but you are wrong about one major thing, Yoshitatsu is not my adoptive son, he is my actual son, born from my late wife, as his sister, why would you say he was my adopted son?" That made Sirius and Yoshiharu look at each other and began to shake their heads almost like they were having one massive headache, till Yoshiharu let out a sigh, "Well Sirius we found another way to our world and this one is different, honestly I am beginning to wonder how much is different in this world than the one we came from."
Dosan and Nobuna had no clue what did they mean by that, so Sirius decided to explain, "We already told you Nobuna, but since I am going to explain it to Lord Saito here, might as well repeat myself, so far the main difference between what happened in our past lives, and what happens in this one so far is that every person we knew from historical or memories, in this world are the opposite gender of what we know or remember in our world, Yoshiharu told you, in his past life he was the head of the Oda Clan, and his name was Oda Nobunaga, many of the officers we met and even the tactician of Lord Saito in our world's history were all men, but here they are women, and then this last change in our history Yoshitatsu was the adopted son of the Viper of Mino, he was adopted because his wife died from childbirth, I don't think I need to mention that childbirth can be quite deadly to both mother and child if not careful. Lord Saito mentioned however that Yoshitatsu is his natural-born son, and that he has a little sister. So that means other things in our knowledge of history and past events could be different in fundamental and critical ways, but the one thing that has not changed is our knowledge of weaponry, tactics, so believe me, we shall be of aid to the Oda Clan, if only to help my friend prevent Nobuna from doing things he did, that he still regrets even after being reborn."
Saito asked Sirius what things Yoshiharu regret even to the present day, Sirius told him there are simply too many, and too monstrous to mention lightly, "First back then he had eight siblings, but his youngest always got in his way and threatened to revolt to get in his way of doing things his mother did not approve off, they say even Buddha's patience has limits, and so it came to pass that Nobunaga's little brother actually did cause a small revolt, and so Nobunaga stopped the revolt but this time he did not do as many times before, he was treated as any person who would do that, and without hesitation, he sentenced his kid brother to be executed under the charge of treason against his clan leader, that singular act cause my friend to go from a person who was optimistic about the unification of our nation to something akin to a monster if not a demon."
Yoshiharu explained that after the execution of his kid brother, his mother took her own life, saying that she was as guilty as his kid brother, or just to cause him even more pain and suffering, he couldn't tell at the time, from that moment on, any person who was under his command that tried to oppose his decisions, argued with him, try to do something without his expressed permission or gave a pathetic excuse for not doing something was swiftly and mercilessly executed, "I killed so many of my officers, I became a heartless monster that threatened the very goal that I once had, they do not call me the Demon King of the Sixth Heaven for no reason. Man, woman, child, or elderly person did not matter if I perceived that person to be on my way to achieve my plans, I would kill them without any mercy. My very best friend had to set a trap for me and kill me so that he could take control of my army and that is why unification happened, it shouldn't be that strange since I often felt that my friend Sirius was the reincarnation of my old friend Kinoshita Tokichiro, the man who I came to learn later by history books became emperor of Japan, or maybe I read that old history book incorrectly, I know I had a few drinks when I read it."
Saito asked him why was he even drinking, to which Yoshiharu told him that why wouldn't he be drinking if he was constantly plagued by memories of causing the death of his mother and chopping his own kid brother's head off? "I needed to drink because only while drunk that I was spared from suffering those memories in the form of cruel and savage nightmares every single night."
That is when Sirius told Yoshiharu does he think remembering every night that he trapped his best friend inside a burning temple to be killed by fire, smoke and burning debris from the temple was also such a nice dream. "I remind you, that after you became a monster it fell to me to put an end to your destructive ways, and I had to live the rest of that life with the guilt of it, and I only drink half as much as you do, so stop using that excuse and admit you got a drinking problem and do something about it." Yoshiharu was quick to respond that he would quit drinking as soon as Sirius did it first, as a moral example.
"See, we love each other as family, we treat each other as brothers, and yet we can still have our own opinion and feel free to tell each other exactly what we think, we can accept each other's ideas and sometimes we come up with better ideas after seeing what each other thinks of a possible solution to a problem, this is what family should do, but your son Yoshitatsu, trying to get him to listen to anyone else is like trying to get water out of a stone, he will not understand or be willing to listen to the idea that Nobuna is a visionary, what would he say that in the future the very muskets that Nobuna uses are replaced by something much more advanced, something that can fire hundreds of these metal projectiles per second, and could kill hundreds in a matter of minutes. In our future, there are weapons so dreadful that the entire world fears their use, a bomb that can destroy an entire city in a matter of minutes, but poison the ground for decades, so much so that not even weeds will grow."
"We come from that future, and sorry to tell you that our knowledge of war tactics and weapons is far more brutal and deadly than most can ever imagine, weapons that guarantee the destruction of all life on the entire planet, weapons that can destroy continents or have an impact that is hotter than the surface of the sun. We do not wish for these to be brought here, so we work within the confines of current technology, so please don't ask us to make or create any of the weapons from the future, because you might live to regret it."
Sirius also mentioned that the only reason he mentioned Yoshitatsu is quite simple, Nobuna also cares as much as Dosan cares about her, so that is another reason why they insist that his troops which are currently surrounding the temple remain here and train to use muskets, and why they will be provided with better armor, Yoshiharu decided to mention something that not even Sirius expected, "Back when I walked down the blood-soaked path of darkness that I went down on, I often felt the bitterness of why is it that I tend to lose the people that once loved me, this bitterness kept me going down that dark path and I do not wish for Nobuna to end up like me, alone, hated, feared, treated as a monster, and finding peace only after death in a burning building, choking on smoke and ash."
At long last Nobuna understood why Yoshiharu was so focused on trying to offer her his aid when she never once asked for it or ever expected any reward for doing so, she thought that this fake altruism was a ploy to get her to lower her guard and take advantage of her, but after hearing everything said here, she understood, in that world, Yoshiharu had once been the male version of herself, a man named Oda Nobunaga, and he did terrible, monstrous things, and his only motivation as Yoshiharu was that she would never need to walk down the same dark path or make the mistakes that pain him even after being reborn.
