The following weekend Graham decides to go over to Ace's to admit his feelings for her. When he drives up he sees a second car in the driveway. He still gets out but leaves the flowers in his car. Knocking on the door he hears Ace yell to whomever is in there to get the door. A man looking about 4 years younger than Ace opens the door. "Dorothy," the man yells, "you have a gentleman caller."
"Who is it?" Ace starts to enter the living room and lights up when she sees Graham. "Hello Graham."
"Hello Ace." The man looks between them and laughs.
"So I guess it is up to me, come on in Graham, is it?"
"Umm yes."
"Sorry, where are my manners? This idiot is my brother Liam." The two shake hands, Ace introduces her brother and the man who she is falling for.
"So you are the one my sister has been talking about."
"LIAM."
"It's true."
"I hate you," she pushes him a little bit.
"No you don't just like you don't hate Graham here." Ace looks at Graham and the two just stare at the other.
"Isn't your call with Ryan soon?"
"He is on a plane right now."
"That's great, he's coming home?"
"He is."
Liam looks between the two and understands why Tegan has contacted him in trying to get his sister to admit she likes Graham, "you know Graham, we were just about to have dessert."
"Ok?"
"What my brother is saying, do you want some too?"
"I would love to." The three of them walk into the kitchen together Ace and Graham's hands occasionally brushing, Liam looks on shaking his head.
"So when you met my sister here what did you think?"
"Please don't make that joke Graham," Ace says as Graham smiles.
"That she was indeed Ace," Ace puts her head in her hands and tries to hold back laughter.
"Sis?"
Bringing her head up, "Liam?"
"Didn't you say that the Doctor would always make those jokes."
"I did."
"Please tell me."
"Oh god no, you saw the two of us together."
"He was protective of you like a father is of their daughter."
"You met the Doc?"
"I did, in America in the 90s, he was trying to make up for something wasn't he?"
"I almost died, and a few different betrayals made me want to go by Dorothy. He refused to stop calling me Ace."
"I will call you anything you want me to," Graham says as Liam spits out his drink.
"You ok Liam," asks Ace.
"Yep." Liam then thinks 'is this man hitting on my sister. He did show up tonight and she didn't know about it.'
"I am fine with both."
"Ok," Graham smiles again at her wanting to grab her hand, but he doesn't lean his hand over the table knowing that Liam is also just there next to them. They continue on eating and after they move to the living room. A few hours later after trying to watch a movie Liam smiled as Ace and Graham sat next to each other on the couch. After everyone decides to call it a night, Graham gets up. "I guess I should head home. Nice meeting you Liam, Ace," he smiles at her, "I will see you later."
"Graham, wait, let me walk you out." Ace gets up to grab her jacket and the two walk out together. "So what did you think of my brother?"
"He was a little quiet."
"That is odd for him to be. I was honestly surprised when he showed up out of the blue. He recently moved to London and wasn't expecting a visit so soon."
"It's good you are close to him."
"I know, I am glad I was able to find him after my travels."
"It is good. Even though we kept coming back during our travels, my mates didn't understand why I changed so much."
"A few of mine met the Doctor when he brought me to Perivale after he used me in a chess game."
"You mentioned that a few times what he did to you." They lean against his car, Graham hopes Ace can't see the now wilting flowers in the car.
"Yeah, can I ask you something?"
"You can ask me anything."
"Not that I love spending time with you, you know I enjoy it, but why didn't you call first?"
"I guess I just wanted to see you."
An eyebrow goes up as Ace plays with his jacket, "with a smart jacket on that I haven't seen you in before." They don't notice Liam watching from a window with the phone to his ear.
"I, ummmm," he looks into her eyes that are sparkling right now.
"You what Graham?"
"I," they hear something coming from the other side of his car. They get distracted. As they walk to the side they can hear a muffled sound from inside now and Ace looks to see the curtain close.
"I will see you later Graham."
"Maybe at the temporary headquarters for UNIT?"
"You never know," she winks at him and heads back inside. Graham gets in his car.
"I like you Ace," he says to the empty car as he starts it up and sees Ace go inside.
"What in the hell do you think you were doing watching us Liam McShane?"
"Come on Dorothy, the guy likes you and you like him too."
"What makes you think he would say something when my brother isn't that far, especially when it turns out he was watching us," Ace scolds her brother with a hand moving to her hip. Liam smiles. "What are you smiling at?" A pissed off Ace asks.
"Just imagining if it would've been like this growing up together?"
"Like what?"
"You are getting angry at me when I spy on you and your boyfriends like brothers do."
"Graham isn't my boyfriend."
"Everyone who sees the two of you together knows it will happen anytime. I have a feeling he came here today to ask you out."
"And what is the real reason why you came by today Liam. You just made a major move from a different continent."
"What can't I visit my big sister?"
"You can always visit me, you know that. Us McShanes usually have a reason for popping up or disappearing."
"Promise you won't be mad?"
"Liam," Ace warns, "you know when someone says that to me makes me even angrier."
"I got a phone call today."
"Let me guess Tegan, telling you about Graham and I."
"I was already suspicious about how frequently you talked about him. I was planning to wait a few weeks until I was more settled, but when Tegan told me how the two of you act when around the other, I wanted to actually see you when you talk about him."
"What do you mean?"
"I have heard you time and time again for like the past month talking about the guy, now that I have seen the two of you together, I know that something will happen."
As Graham arrives back at his flat Yaz is waiting for him. "My family is annoying me."
"You have been back for a week." Graham says as he unlocks his door wishing he just tossed the flowers before walking up.
"I know, they keep asking when they are going to see my three friends again."
"Ryan is on his way home, so you will have two of us."
"Mum wanted to make dinner for more than two more people."
"I am sure in the group we can find someone who will go."
"At least I won't get teased." Yaz looks at him and sees the wilted flowers. "Who are those for?"
"What do you mean?"
"Where were you?"
"With Ace and her brother."
"You met Ace's brother?"
"I showed up at her house without notifying her that I was coming by."
"You were there for a reason."
"I was."
"You were finally going to tell her you like her, hence the flowers and the new jacket."
"What if I was?"
"I am happy for you."
"I didn't tell her."
"I know, but it's still a big step." There is a knock on the door, "that must be one of them, thank you Graham."
"Anytime kid." After Yaz leaves Graham goes to the mantel. 'I hope it's ok that I am starting to move on Grace. Ace is special.' With that Graham goes to bed thinking of the two women who have a part of him.
