Hey! Thank you so much for clicking on this fanfic!
Get ready to jump right in! This is my version of how Shifu came into the Jade Palace (not using KFP LOA as references)
The Shadow Era (as referenced a few times) is pertaining to a time in China where villians ran over the country wild and it seemed as if darkness was always dawning. It was a very bad time. (Fan made, by me! )
I love writing Shifu and his backstory so much, so I hope you all will enjoy this.
(I do not own kfp)

A whistle in the wind blew past the dusty ground of the Guangxi Province, near the bloody grounds of the Artesian Village. The battle that had happened a few months ago against the bandits of the west and Grandmaster Oogway had still scared the once-beautiful ground of the once-peaceful village.
Even if it was the Shadow Era, which was a time of pain, death, and agony, the Artesian Village was a real peaceful place for anyone to go there and rest, or watch selective shows the villagers would sometimes put on.
But, ever since the attack when the bandits of Western China swept in and caused havoc and tragedy to the village, no one had ever been the same.
Now, the village has closed its doors to outside visitors.
Now, the villagers themselves had hardened their hearts.
It truly was sad, and to Grandmaster Oogway, it troubled him deeply.
Grandmaster Oogway stood on the top of the ledge to the great Training Hall of the Jade Palace, overlooking his student's training in the courtyard while scanning the cloud-scattered sky above. The sun was just starting to make its way out of the clouds, eventually letting some light down on the courtyard and casting shadows when its light hit the trees and stone wall among the premises.
Grandmaster Oogway shivered when a cold wind swept in, and he instinctively wrapped the shawl he was wearing tighter around him. He watched as one of his strongest students, Mei, a young female Snow Leopard with an attitude as bold as her bravery, launched a fierce attack against the training dummy filled with sand. Oogway narrowed his eyes as he watched her attack it again and again with a series compound of punches. Oogway glanced softly at the other students, some of which were sparring, or training on forms rather than fighting.
She really is one of the stronger students I have, Oogway admitted to himself, but I need to work on her humility.
Oogway just slightly chuckled to himself as he listened to his student talking amongst themselves about the weather, and when he looked up himself, he saw that the sunlight was more prominent now, even if it was later in the evening.
As Oogway softly sighed and walked down to his students in the courtyard, making a mental note to himself to speak to Mei later in her private lesson, he couldn't help but feeling a sense of dread as the Shadow Era was still looming on throughout the province and the country as he saw storm clouds beginning to loom on the horizon.
The shadows will never go away, Oogway inwardly heaved a sigh as he realized his work wasn't finished. But I hope that what I have started in the Shaolin will continue to fight the shadows for years to come.
I hope eventually..
We can all be at peace for a time.
