Chapter 9: Discovering The Long Forgotten Ship! Search Aboard The Abandoned S.S. Cactus!

After ending the update call with the Professors, Michael and the girls checked over their current supplies to make sure they had enough to reach Slateport. Once they made sure they had enough, the party set out to sea and began making their way to Slateport City. After fully crossing Route 107 and going part way through Route 108, Michael noticed a large structure off to the party's left.

Michael - "Roxanne. Is that...?"

Roxanne - "Yes. The abandoned S.S. Cactus."

Michael - "I see. Then let's stop here for a break girls. After a bit we'll continue on to Slateport City."

Girls - "Ok."

The party quickly found a small strip of land and stopped on it, returning their Pokémon to rest for a bit.

Michael - "Ok. For the time being, let's explore this place."

Ruby - "Are you sure about this Michael?"

Michael - "Well we're gonna have to be careful in there. However, I have thought up of us going around the ship in groups of four. The groups are as follows: Group A is me, Delphox, Swampert, and Delcatty: Group B is Blaziken, Greninja, Empoleon, and Lopunny: Group C is Clair, Roxanne, Ruby, and Weiss: Group D is Whitney, Bae, Pinkie, AJ, and Bea."

Pinkie - "So how are we gonna go about the ship?"

Michael - "Each group will cover part of a floor. And we'll make sure to keep in contact by our communicators. If anyone finds something interesting, contact the others right away."

Weiss - "Then what are we standing around here for? Let's get moving."

Soon the party split while walking along the abandoned ship, checking as much of it as they could.

-With Group A-

Michael, along with Delphox, Swampert, and Delcatty, were carefully checking a group of rooms they had assigned themselves.

Michael - "Anything on your end Swampert?"

Swampert - "Not a thing. Delphox, Delcatty. How about you girls?"

Delphox - "Nothing on my end either."

Delcatty - "Same here."

Michael - "Well then let's go find another group of rooms to search."

-With Group B-

Group B, which was Blaziken, Lopunny, Greninja, and Empoleon, were also having trouble finding something. Lopunny slowly walked out of the room she searched in. But she was more bothered by something else. Lopunny then looked to see another door opening. But out of the door came not Empoleon, but Blaziken. Blaziken looked over to see Lopunny looking a bit downcast and walked over to her.

Blaziken - "You ok there Lopunny?"

Lopunny looked up to see the look of concern on Blaziken's face. Then she gave the fire starter a smile, but it was a sad one.

Lopunny - "It's nothing Blaziken."

Blaziken - "No it's not nothing Lopunny. Now come on. We're both girls here. You can tell me."

Lopunny looked out in front of her, then took a deep breath before speaking.

Lopunny - "It's just... I don't think I'm strong enough as you guys are."

Blaziken - "What do you mean by that?"

Lopunny - "What I mean is... Compared to you, Empoleon, Greninja, Swampert, and Delphox, I'm not on the same level of strength."

Blaziken was a bit shocked at hearing Lopunny say that.

Blaziken - "Well I don't believe that at all."

Lopunny - "Why do you say that?"

Blaziken - "Well sure, the five of us are very strong for a three-stage evolution line. But you also have Blaze, Tundra, Espeon, and Delcatty, who are all two-stage Evolution lines like you, and they're strong in their own right. So just have faith in your own strength and keep getting even stronger. Ok?"

Lopunny wiped her eyes, happy that she talked about her feelings to Blaziken.

Lopunny - "You're right. Thanks Blaziken. I needed to get that off of my chest."

Blaziken - "Not at all Lopunny. By the way, have you found anything?"

Lopunny - "Sadly no. You?"

Blaziken - "Same for me."

The girls then see Empoleon and Greninja come out of the rooms they assigned themselves to.

Lopunny - "You boys fine anything?"

Greninja - "Not a thing. How about you girls?"

Blaziken - "Same for us."

Empoleon - "Well. There's still the one door here."

The rest of the group turned to look at the door Empoleon was pointing at. They then slowly walked toward it. Greninja reached out and gently grabbed the doorknob before turning it. After opening the door, the group of four looked inside to see a giant indoor pool of water. Empoleon silently dropped into the pool while the others looked around.

Blaziken - "Man there's nothing in here either."

Lopunny - "Where'd Empoleon go?"

The others then see Empoleon emerge from the water.

Empoleon - "I'm back."

Greninja - "You find anything big bro?"

Empoleon - "Nothing but an underwater pathway that leads further into the ship."

Blaziken and Lopunny quickly went into their human forms.

Greninja - "Looking to handle the water better?"

Blaziken - "Yes. I know I'm a Fire-Type. But at least my human body deals with water better."

Empoleon - "And why are you transforming Lopunny?"

Lopunny - "Mostly so my wet fur doesn't weight you down while swimming underwater."

Empoleon - "That's understandable."

The Water-Type Starters then got into the water, followed by Blaziken and Lopunny getting on their backs.

Greninja - "You girls ready?"

Blaziken/Lopunny - "Ready!"

Empoleon - "On three then."

Greninja - "One..."

Empoleon - "Two..."

Greninja/Empoleon - "Three!"

Both girls took a deep breath as the group of four dove underwater. Empoleon then quickly lead the way, carrying Lopunny as Greninja followed behind while carrying Blaziken.

Greninja - "You sure this is the way brother?"

Empoleon - "Yes. I double-checked myself before rejoining you guys."

After a few moments, the group came to a patch of light filtering down from above. They then quickly resurfaced in another part of the ship. The group then got out of the water.

Blaziken - "So where are we now?"

Lopunny - "Your guess is as good as mine Blaziken."

Greninja - "Then let's split up for now. Blaziken and I will check one half of this section. While you two check the other half."

Empoleon - "Leave it to us bro. Right Lopunny?"

Lopunny - "Right!"

Blaziken - "Good luck searching for us all then."

Soon the group went about their search. Sadly, nothing came from it.

Greninja - "Anything for you too?"

Empoleon - "Nothing. How about you?"

Blaziken - "Same."

Lopunny then noticed a way further into the ship.

Lopunny - "Then let's go further inside. Perhaps we may get lucky."

Empoleon - "Lopunny's right. Let's keep our hopes up."

The group then came out onto an upper deck of the ship. Blaziken then noticed a stairway that led into the bridge.

Blaziken - "Over here!"

Greninja - "The ship's bridge?"

Empoleon - "Perhaps we'll get lucky here."

The group slowly entered the bridge, being careful in case any of the floor as weak to stand on. Then while searching across the entire bridge, Lopunny spotted a device.

Lopunny - "What's this?"

Empoleon - "You find something Lopunny?"

Lopunny - "Some kind of device."

Blaziken - "Let me see it."

Lopunny handed the strange device to Blaziken.

Blaziken - "It looks like some kind of scanner."

Greninja - "Let's hold on to it then and get Michael's opinion."

Empoleon - "Good idea."

The four of them then made their back to the beginning. Michael turned to see them coming back.

Michael - "There you guys."

Greninja - "You and the others find anything?"

Michael - "Sadly no."

Empoleon - "Well we did."

Michael - "You did?"

Blaziken pulled out the scanner and handed it to Michael.

Michael - "Which of you found it?"

Blaziken - "Lopunny did."

Michael - "I see. Good find Lopunny."

Lopunny - "Hehe. Thanks."

Lopunny bashfully rubbed the back of her head. Michael then took another look at the scanner.

Michael - "Hey Roxanne. Can you come here a second?"

Roxanne walked over to Michael.

Roxanne - "What is it Michael?"

Michael handed Roxanne the scanner to look at.

Michael - "Tell me. Have you or the rest of Hoenn's Gym Leaders heard any rumors about something being built in Slateport's Shipyard?"

Roxanne looked over the scanner while Michael asked his question, then handed it back to him.

Roxanne - "Not as far as I know of."

Michael - "Then I want you and Weiss to remind me to make sure Captain Stern gets this scanner when I hand him the package from Devon."

Weiss - "Leave it to us Michael."

Michael - "Ok then everyone. Since there's nothing else here. Let's continue on our way to Slateport!"

Party - "Right!"
