Making Arrangements. Part 1
Hermione conjured up a map of Lime, Ohio. The four looked at the map for a few minutes before anyone spoke up.
"It's small." Hermione stated.
"It's perfect." The others looked at Harry and smile, they all agreed with him. After everything they had been through a small, quiet town sounded like paradise.
"So, how are we going to tell everyone?" Charlie asked. They all looked at each other knowing how difficult it was going to be to tell the rest of the Weasley clan, especially Molly.
"We tell them the day before we leave." Hermione suggested. Harry gave his friend a confused look.
"And how do you suggest we do that?" Charlie inquired, he had an idea of what Hermione was thinking, he just wasn't sure how they would pull it off.
"We get everything ready in secret."
"That's easier said then done, Hermione." Harry state as he stated to put Teddy to sleep.
"We all do different thing. One of us arranges the transportation, someone finds a place to live in Lime, and so on. If we all do different things, then everyone else is less likely to get suspicious."
"That may just work." George said softly, Hermione smiled at him.
"I would like to take of finances for the house and transportation." Harry announced.
"You don't have to do that Harry. I have plenty of money from my job in Romania and George is practically rolling in the galleons from the shop." Charlie proclaimed. George just nodded, while Hermione didn't say anything and looked at the floor.
"Let me take care of this and then when we get to Lima everyone can handle their own finances for anything else that comes up." Charlie and George glanced at each, then nodded their consent to Harry. Hermione just shrugged. Harry noticed Hermione had suddenly gone quiet.
"Hermione, what's wrong?"
"I just forgot that you all have money. I don't have any and I can't even ask my parents. I feel like a burden." Hermione confessed, still looking at the floor. Harry handed a sleeping Teddy to George and turned to Hermione, lifting her head to make her look at him.
"Hermione, you could never be a burden. I am going to give you complete access to my vault." Hermione immediately started to argue.
"Harry, you can't …"
"Yes, I can." Harry interrupted, "Besides, we've been through so much together and you've been such a huge help with Teddy. Giving you access to my vault is the least I can do." By Harry's tone Hermione knew it would be useless to argue, so she just nodded and changed the subject.
"Okay, so we need to decide who will do what. I can take care of the transportation arrangement. I've seen my parents do it plenty of times when we would go on vacations. Someone should go over to Lima early, using wizard means, and find a house. I also think Harry, George, and I should attend high school. With Harry and I being sixteen and George being seventeen we would still be in school if we were muggles. Charlie can pose our guardian so there aren't any questions about our lack of parents. Charlie should therefore also go to Lima to get us enrolled in school, but we can do that when we get there. We should also all get our driving licenses. Someone also needs to go to Gringotts to set up a way to get muggle money once we are in the states." Hermione finished and finally took a breath. The other three just looked at Hermione for a few seconds, trying not to laugh, before speaking.
"I can go to Gringotts. I need to go anyway to grant Hermione access to my vault and to see what Teddy's financial situation is. Charlie and George, if you give me a voucher, I can set up everything for you as well. I can also see if they are able to help get any muggle documents we may need." Harry offered, both Weasley's nodded.
"I can look for a house in Lima, George can help me with that." Charlie offered, Hermione nodded, but then Harry saw a potential problem.
"If we are going to be telling everyone we are leaving the night before we go, how do we explain Charlie and George leaving before us?" Harry asked pointed to himself, Hermione, and Teddy. After a moment of thought, Hermione spoke up.
"Most of the arrangements for the house can done over the phone. When you set up appointments to view houses you use a porkey to get there and back. You wouldn't be gone for more than a day, no one should get suspicious over that. I'll go out and get us all cell phones."
"Why are we going through all these muggle means of transportation if we can just porkey, apparate, or use the floo?" George wondered.
"I think that it's important that when we officially step into the muggle world, we do so by muggle means." Hermione replied, the others nodded in agreement.
"Okay, well, Mrs. Weasley will be up here any minute to tell us lunch is ready. I'll go to Gringotts after lunch and get everything situated there." Harry stated, the others agreed then left, not wanting to anyone to wonder why they were all together.
After lunch Harry handed Teddy to Hermione and headed to Gringotts, but not before Molly asked where he was going. Harry simply stated that he needed to sort somethings out with the bank. Molly nodded and told him to be safe.
Walking into Gringotts Harry headed to one of the tellers.
"Excuse me, I would like to speak with whoever is in charge of the Potter account, please." The goblin scowled at Harry, then went to get the Potter account manager. About a minute later the goblin came back out.
"If you will follow me, Mr. Potter." After about a five-minute walk Harry and the goblin reached a door with name plate on it that said Snarlfang. The goblin opened the door, ushered Harry in, then left, closing the door behind him. Harry looked toward the desk and saw another goblin he assumed was Snarlfang.
"Please have a seat Mr. Potter. I hear you have some questions about your vaults." Harry raised his eyebrows at that statement.
"Vaults, sir? You mean I have more than one?" Harry asked, surprised. Snarlfang gave a small smile, he had had a feeling Harry didn't know about all his vaults.
"Yes, Mr. Potter. You have quite a few. The vault you have been using was just your trust fund vault. Now that you are sixteen and the only living member of your family line you will be given your rings and access to all your vaults." Harry was hesitant to ask, but knew he needed to.
"How many vaults are we talking about exactly?" Snarlfang gave another smile, he was having fun with this, and opened a large folder.
"Let's see, let's see. There are the Potter vaults, that's six; the Black vaults, since Mr. Sirius Black names you his heir, that's five; the Gryffindor vaults, that's nine; the Slytherin vaults, that's seven; and half of the Dumbledore vaults, that's two. So, you have twenty-nine vaults, plus your trust fund making it an even thirty vaults." Snarlfang announce with an amused tone. Harry sat back in his chair for a few minutes in complete shock before Snarlfang's words completely registered in his mind.
"Wait, how do I have the Slytherin vaults?"
"Since you defeated the last descendant of Salazar Slytherin in combat, by ancient wizarding law you were awarded all of the Slytherin vaults and title." Snarlfang explained. It took Harry a minute to digest that information before he could move onto his next inquiry.
"And I would only have access to the Dumbledore vaults if …"
"… If a Dumbledore named you his heir, which Albus Dumbledore did about two months before his death, he gave you half of his vaults and the other half he split between his brother and Hogwarts." Harry just widened his eyes in amazement. Harry knew that having access to the Gryffindor vaults meant he was a descendant of the ancient wizard line, which was amazing by itself. Harry wasn't too surprised about Sirius naming him his heir, he kind of figured it out when he was able to get into Grimmauld place without any problems. It was the fact that Dumbledore named Harry as his heir that completely astonished Harry, he didn't know that Dumbledore had cared about him that much. Harry shook his head one more time to clear it, then addressed Snarlfang.
"Mr. Snarlfang, about how much money are we talking about here?" Snarlfang's eyes widened a bit at being called mister, something no wizard had ever done before, but that was all the surprise he showed. Snarlfang turned to a different page in the folder and found what he was looking for.
"Mr. Potter, let's just say that you and your family could never work a day and still live in luxury for many, many generations to come." Harry just nodded, still having trouble believing everything he had been told, it was a lot of information to take in. As Harry was thinking about his vaults an idea popped into his head.
"Mr. Snarlfang, about how much money is in my trust fund?" Snarlfang turned another page.
"You could use only that vault for the rest of your life, without working, and be living very comfortably." Harry nodded and smiled; he had hoped that answer would be something like that. Snarlfang closed the folder and looked at Harry, the goblins face was now completely serious.
"Now, Mr. Potter, I am going to take a guess and say you are here for more than the reason to find out about your immense wealth." Harry had to smile; on his few visits he had noticed how perceptive goblins were.
"You are correct in your guess, Mr. Snarlfang. I actually have quite a bit to discuss with you." Snarlfang simply made a gesture for Harry to continue.
"First, I would like to give the Weasley family my trust fund, I obviously don't need it. I also want to give Hermione Granger complete access to all my vaults." Snarlfang nodded and went into a drawer of his desk, taking out a few forms and a quill.
"This form here is to sign over the trust fund." Snarlfang gave Harry the parchment.
"This form is to give Ms. Granger access to your vaults. Both must be signed by you and the other parties with a blood quill." At the mention of a blood quill Harry grimaced and clenched his right hand, where the words 'I must not tell lies' were still dully showing. Snarlfang saw the action and glared at the scars, the goblins had heard of what Umbridge had done to the students of Hogwarts and were completely disgusted. Snarlfang quickly reassured Harry.
"Don't worry, Mr. Potter, you won't be getting any scars from your use of the blood quill. All Gringotts blood quills are equipped with a mild numbing potion and healing charm." Harry nodded, took the quill, and quickly signed the forms. When he was finished Harry looked back to Snarlfang.
"I also need to look into Teddy Lupins financial situation. I believe as his guardian and caregiver you can share that information with me." Snarlfang nodded, he was aware of the arrangement, and pressed a small button on his desk.
"Yes, Master Snarlfang?" A voice echoed in the room.
"I need the financial records for Edward Lupin, Hookclaw." There was no reply, but a few moments later a goblin, who Harry figured was Hookclaw, walked in, handed Snarlfang a small folder, and left. Snarlfang opened the folder, looked at it for a minute, and then closed it again.
"Mr. Lupins finances are mediocre at best. Since his father was a werewolf, he had a hard time finding work. As for his mother, her branch of the Black family was disowned and Mr. Sirius Black was unable to reinstate them before his death, so Mrs. Lupin received none of the Black inheritance. While she had a steady job as an auror she had only been in her career for four years before her death, so she also did not have much money." Harry nodded; he had expected as much.
"Okay, first I would like to reinstate Andromeda Tonks and her family to the Black family and make Teddy the heir to the Black family. I would also like to adopt Teddy and set up a trust fund for him, the same amount as mine should be fine." Snarlfang took out the necessary forms and handed them to Harry to sign. Once the forms were signed a small golden key and a silver ring with the Black family crest appeared on the desk, both Snarlfang gave to Harry.
"The key you can give to Mr. Lupin when you think he is ready to access his trust fund. The ring is to give him when he comes of age, he'll also get access to the Black vaults when he comes of age. Since you have reinstated Mrs. Tonks to the Black family an owl with a letter of reinstatement and a key to the Black family vaults will go out to her today." Harry smiled then brought up his next order of business.
"I would also like to make Hermione Granger Teddy's guardian." Snarlfang pulled out yet another form for Harry to sign. Once that was done Harry took a deep breath and started to delve into the main reason for his visit to Gringotts.
"This last thing is long and a bit complicate, I'm also not entirely sure if Gringotts can help with all of it, so please bear with me, Mr. Snarlfang." Harry waited until Snarlfang motions for him to go on before he continued.
"Hermione Granger, Charlie Weasley, George Weasley, and I, along with Teddy, are moving to the United States and leaving the wizarding world for a while. We will need to be able to access our vaults through an American bank. I have vouchers from both Charlie and George Weasley giving me permission to set this up for them." Harry handed over the vouchers. When Snarlfang acknowledged their validity Harry continued.
"Also, Hermione, George, and I have decided to attend muggle high school so we will need transcripts from Hogwarts that can be converted to reflect a muggle education. Charlie will need something similar for his job history. Charlie will also be posing as Hermione, George, and my guardian, so we will need paperwork to reflect that. We will also need passports, visas, and American driving licenses. I believe that is everything we need." As Harry finished speaking, he noticed that Snarlfang has writing down everything he said. A few seconds later Snarlfang finished writing and hit the button on his desk again. The door to the office opened a minute later, reemitting Hookclaw. Snarlfang gave Hookclaw the parchment he had been taking notes on and the vouchers from Charlie and George, then Hookclaw left.
"Gringotts can take care of everything you and your friends need. It should take about a day to get all the documents sorted and filed." Harry smiled, stood up to shake Snarlfang's hand, and thanked him for all of his help. Grabbing the files with the vault information, vault keys, and family rings Harry left Gringotts.
When Harry stepped out the bank, he shook his head to clear it one more, then apparated back to the Burrow.
Harry apparated into the Weasley's garden and walked into the kitchen. Since everyone was either in the kitchen or living room, they all turned to look at Harry when he came in. Harry paid them no mind; he was still processing everything that had happened at the bank and sat down at the kitchen table. Sensing that something was up Hermione and the Weasley's sat down at the table as well. Hermione was the first one to say anything.
"Harry, did everything go okay at Gringotts?" Harry nodded.
"I was told about my vaults." It took a second for the meaning of those words to register with everyone.
"You mean you have more than the one you've been using?" Ginny asked, making sure they heard Harry correctly.
"I have thirty vaults. Although five of them are from the Black family and those will go to Teddy when he's of age, so I really have twenty-five." Before anyone interrupted Harry explained everything about his vaults and showed them the contents of the box that held all his family rings. When he finished Harry looked over at Molly and Arthur.
"I'm giving the Weasley family my trust fund vault." Immediately all the Weasley's started to protest. Harry held up his hands and the red-headed family quieted down.
"You, all of you, are my family and giving you one of my vaults is the least I can do for everything you have done for me. This is really important to me. Please, let me take care of my family." The Weasley children looked to Molly and Arthur, looking at each other the couple had a silent conversation, then looked back at Harry, and nodded. Harry's face broke into a huge grin, seeing this the rest of the Weasley clan nodded their consent. Harry took out the necessary form and the blood quill.
"All that needs to be done is for everyone to sign this form with a blood quill." It took a few minutes for everyone to sign. Once Ginny signed her name the form disappeared, and eight keys appeared. Harry handed out the keys, the smile still on his face.
"You really have no idea how much this means to me and please promise that you will use the money." The red heads nodded, and Harry's smile grew.
Later that night Harry told Hermione, Charlie, and George everything else that happened at the bank. They were a bit surprised how smoothly things had gone, and Hermione was excited to be Teddy's guardian. When they left Harry and Teddy's they were financially ready to step into the muggle world.
