A/N: Warring: Some blood and mild violence. Enjoy

Five years. It's been only five years. How? It feels like yesterday. Remus Lupin lay in his bed with tears in his eyes. His wife, his whole world other than his son was dead. How has it been five years? Remus didn't want to move. Not even when he heard his son playing in the hall by his door. He smiled a little, but it was a sad smile. "Dora, why did you have to die? Harry misses you; Sirius misses you, I…I miss you," Remus said, showing a rare side of weakness. Tears tracked down his face. He covered his eyes with his hand.

"Daddy?" his five-year-old son whispered, knocking on the door. Remus wiped the tears from his eyes and sat up. "Daddy? I'm hungry," Teddy said, knocking again. His voice was quiet.

"Coming Ted," Remus said, opening the door slowly. Edward 'Teddy' Lupin stood in the doorway. His stuffed wolf was in his hands and his mother's scarf was around his neck. Remus smiled at his son, but tears were still in his amber eyes.

"What do you want?" Remus asked as they walked down the hall and the stairs. Teddy's grandmother was out for the day and Sirius was with Harry, leaving Remus alone with Teddy. Remus didn't mind it but today…today he wished he had someone else with him.

Remus could not help but smile sadly at Dora's Hufflepuff scarf around his son's neck. Dora, his beautiful Dora, Remus saw it in his son's face and powers. Just like Dora. Remus smiled sadly. "What do you want to eat, Ted?" Remus asked, looking at the clock.

"Mac and cheese," Teddy demanded with a giggle. Remus laughed a little before he nodded and made his way into the kitchen.

Lunch was quiet. Remus was quiet. It was getting closer to the full moon. Remus had done this many times, he'll be well with Teddy alone. Sirius would be here later, but still. What would Dora do? She would... Oh, Remus doesn't even know. He can't think at the moment.

Teddy was happily eating while the rain pattered on the back window. "Teddy?" Remus whispered. His son looked up at him and nodded. Remus hoped he didn't see the tears that were forming in his eyes.

"Yes, Daddy?" the five-year-old asked. Remus took a deep breath. "Is this about mummy not being here today?" Teddy asked, breaking Remus's heart. Remus took another deep breath before he nodded slowly.

"Yes, and you know what today is?" Remus asked looking at his son who went back to eating. Teddy nodded.

"The furry problem," Teddy said taking a drink. Remus chuckled.

"Yes Ted, now Sirius should be back before it happens but remember —"

"Stay inside in my room," Teddy said automatically. Remus nodded, a proud smile on his face. He wasn't nervous, but…

"Is Mummy going to be home after?" Teddy asked. Remus felt tears in his eyes. He didn't know what to say. Dora was… Dora was dead. How does he say that to his five-year-old? Remus, however, didn't answer his son as he took his Wolfsbane potion.

"Daddy?" Teddy asked, looking up. His hair was grey. Remus smiled sadly.

"I'll ask her," Remus said standing up. "Now come on, I have a new story for you before your nap," Remus said, holding out his hand making Teddy smile, but Remus saw pain in his eyes. He knew he should tell but he didn't know how. Not yet, anyway.

Two hours before the full moon Remus didn't want to risk anything, so he was in the basement getting ready. He'd keep his mind, but it still hurt.

"Dora, how do I tell him that you are no longer here? I know you are here with us still in our hearts but…" Remus cut off when he heard Teddy on the stairs.

"I'm ready for bed, Daddy," Teddy said in a sweet voice. Remus smiled.

"I'll be up…there soon…Ted," Remus standing up slowly. Teddy nodded.

"What is it, cub?" Remus asked while he tucked his son into his bed. Teddy looked down at his stuffed wolf.

"Is mummy going to be here? Did you ask her?" Teddy asked. Remus nodded but he didn't say anything. He saw sadness and fear in his eyes.

"I'll be okay," Remus told his son before he kissed him on the forehead.

"She's not here," Teddy whispered as Remus walked out of the room. "I'll find her," he whispered again, waiting for his father to close the door. "I'll find her," Teddy whispered before he closed his eyes.

Teddy woke a few hours later unable to sleep. He heard barking. Sirius was home. Teddy smiled to himself before he got out of bed. His little socked feet hit the floor with a soft thud. He giggled to himself. He will find his mother. She is in the house somewhere. If not in the house, then she is outside. His father told him not to go outside but he wanted his mother. Teddy grabbed his wolf and walked quietly to the door. "I'm going to find you mummy," Teddy said, opening the door.

She wasn't in the house. Teddy knew this was a bad idea but if she wasn't in the house then she must be outside. Teddy took a deep breath as he opened the back door and walked outside. The air was cold, but Teddy didn't mind as he walked around the backyard. His mother was not there. Teddy let out a sigh and ran his hand through his now blue hair. "Mummy, I will find you," Teddy told himself as he walked to the woods that was behind his house.

The woods were dark, twisted, and cold. Trees suffocated around him. The damp cold air made him shiver. Teddy hated the woods, but he had to find his mother. She had to be here. Teddy let out a breath when he saw a fallen tree. He walked over to it, sticks breaking under his shoes. He sat down on the tree and rained his hand through his yellow hair. He looked around him and sighed. He didn't know where he was. Panic filled his little heart. "Daddy?" Teddy whispered looking around him. 'Stay poot.' his brain told him as he sat there. His daddy will find him. Or Sirius. Yeah, they will find him.

Teddy didn't know how long he sat there. Wind filled the trees calming Teddy. However, the sound of a howl made him jump up. "Who's…who's there?" Teddy asked, holding onto his wolf. The howling got louder and closer. Teddy closed his eyes. As he heard something behind him. Teddy let out a whimper as he felt something hot against his neck. Teddy didn't turn around, however, something turned him around. Teddy kept his eyes closed. Teddy could feel his heart beating faster. Teddy let out a scream when something hit him in the eye. The next thing Teddy knew, he was on the ground holding onto his eye.

"H…Help," Teddy whispered as he stood up grabbed his wolf, and started to walk the way he came.

It was early afternoon when Remus felt like he could get out of his bed. However, instead of his son greeting him at his door, he saw a worried-looking Sirius. "Rem, something's wrong with Teddy," Sirius said making Remus jump out of bed and bolting to his son's room. What happened? He didn't hurt Teddy, did he? No, no he would remember that. Remus walked slowly to his son's door. He shared a look with Sirius who shook his head. "He hasn't left his room yet and I'm worried," Sirius said opening his cousin's door. Remus nodded slowly and walked in. As soon as he walked in the room smelled blood. Remus walked over to his son who was hiding under his covers.

"I…I. Can't see, I can't…. My eye hurts," Teddy whimpered. Remus removed the covers from his son's small body. He gasped when he saw his son holding his left eye. There was blood but not a whole lot.

"Edward, what happened?" Remus asked sitting down on his son's bed. The room was a little messy with Hufflepuff and Gryffindor wallpaper. Toys littered the floor around a wolf-themed toy box. Teddy whimpered again before he said:

"I was looking for mummy outside but then…" Teddy cut off. Remus looked at Sirius.

"You went outside."

It wasn't a question. Teddy nodded anyway.

"Teddy, what did I tell you?" Remus said gently. He was too scared and tried to be angry.

"I'm sorry. I want mummy," Teddy whispered. Remus looked at Sirius who was about to leave the room. Remus nodded to him.

"Sirius, can you go make an appointment at St Mungo's for Teddy?" Remus asked, grabbing his son's hand. Sirius nodded and left the room.

Once Sirius had left Remus let out a shaky breath. He met his son's eyes and sighed. "Teddy, um... your mother is not here with us anymore," Remus said carefully. Teddy looked up to him. tears were in his eyes.

"What…what do you mean?" Teddy asked. Remus let out a shaky breath and wiped the tears from his son's eyes.

"She's with your grandfather but she's here," Remus put his hand over his heart. Teddy let out a small cry. "But I'm sure she will be happy to know that you are okay," Remus added, pulling his son in his arms. Remus shushed as he rubbed his back.

"Do you want to see pictures of her after we get home?" Remus asked once Teddy pulled out of the hug. He nodded. Remus smiled as they walked out of the room.

He will be blind in one eye. Remus could not help but cry at this. However, seeing his son happily run around the hospital room pretending to be a pirate made him laugh. "Rarr," Teddy called, making Remus laugh. Teddy stopped when he saw Remus crying. "Daddy, are you okay?" Teddy asked. Remus nodded.

"I'm ok, cub. I'm just sad about this," Remus said wiping his eyes. Teddy shook his head.

"But, Daddy, I'm a pirate! Rarr," Teddy said, pulling out a fake sword.

"Oh no! A pirate," Remus said with a little laugh. "What would you have to me do, captain?" Remus asked, standing up.

"Walk the plank," Teddy said, giggling. Remus fake gasped and picked up his son and tickled him. Teddy laughed harder as Remus spun him around the room.

They were home now, and Remus could not sleep nor leave his son's side. He did the right thing, he knew, and he will tell Teddy about Dora in every way he can. He hoped that Dora was watching them. He smiled at the thought as he stood up. He kissed his son before he left the room with a smile on his face.

"Love you, Dora. Teddy is amazing, I hope you can see it," Remus said, closing the door.
