Between plays and destinations
Summary:
A more than expected weekend becomes something unexpected and desperate.
Chapter 1: GAME INTERRUPTED
On a sunny vacation day, Bokuto and Kuroo decided to take their friends to play volleyball at a local Tokyo court. Bokuto's contagious energy and Kuroo's ease made everything more lively. They knew a co-ed volleyball match would be the perfect way to spend the day together.
They arrived at the court at 9:30 am, and there they were: Akaashi and Kenma, their best friends, along with Hinata, Lev, Yaku, Tsukishima, Atsumu and Osamu.
"Are you ready to rock the court today?" Bokuto exclaimed excitedly, extending his arms to greet everyone.
"What's up guys, long time!" Kuroo smiles broadly at his friends old and new.
"Guys, I've been waiting for this moment for decades, we almost didn't get the ticket for today, we got the break and the plane ticket at the last minute" Lev greets them while holding Yaku in an armbar and ruffling his hair amicably before taking a Pinch.
"What's up guys? Kuroo isn't working too hard, is he?" he asks and unlinks from Lev to give Kuroo a high five.
"Yaku-san, this genius hasn't changed at all, but he's more responsible for his health, thanks to me". Bokuto points proudly to himself and wraps his arm around his boyfriend, who awkwardly waves to Yaku.
"Me and Kozume are close to Bokuto-san and Kuroo-san, don't be fooled because when these two together are two children, every now and then they need someone to take care of them" Akaashi denies smiling as he watches the two accused lower their hands heads in agreement.
"I needed some time, sometimes I think I'm going to go crazy with work, and Kou on rest, as much as it seems he never gets tired" Kuroo says and laughs when he sees Hinata trying to get Kenma's phone.
"Shoyo gives it back, I was already finishing that level" exclaims Kenma and runs after Hinata who laughs desperately running away and passes by Tsukk who was approaching the group.
"How's the team doing? I saw that Hinata has grown 4 cm" Tsukki laughs as she adjusts her glasses.
"It may not look like it but besides giving great synchronized cuts he's a beast at the reception, He even looks like a Libero sometimes, right brother?" Atsumu says while they put on their sneakers and start doing the stretches.
"Yes, for those who don't know I was recently chosen to be the future MSBY assistant, Hinata and Bokuto are the last ones to stay until the end of training and I always help them with receptions and serves." Osamu speaks calmly.
"He learns fast! The other day I was teaching the crossed and he mastered it, my pupil is growing". Bokuto smiles pretending to wipe a fake tear.
Kuroo laughed and joked mischievously: "Of course with the master like that even I would be excited to learn anything" he finishes his stretch and nudges him whispering in his ear.
Bokuto: "Don't even come Tetsu, I'm the greatest and you know it" he stuck out his tongue and blew a peck smiling with red cheeks.
"Hinata, Kenma! Let's team up." Kuroo screams, while everyone acts like a circle.
"Do your best Tsumu" Osamu constantly taps Atsumu on the back, who grimaces and slaps his hand.
"I say the same Samu" Atsumu smiles.
"Hey, are you two going to play together? I want you on my team then" Kuroo exclaims with a smile and points a finger at the twins, while giving a smirk to Bokuto, who crosses his arms grimy.
"So if you're going to have two and a half lifters since Osamu lifts too, I want two attackers and two blockers with the lifter, come Hinata!" Bokuto pouts and then smiles at Kuroo.
"Today I'm going to cut them all, you can leave Bokuto-san." Hinata jumps excitedly.
"Bokuto-san, it's going to be us, Hinata, Lev and Kei-san," Akaashi explains
On the side of Kuroo's team, Kenma, his loyal partner and skillful setter, was ready to distribute the perfect passes, Atsumu with his perfect double serve and great in several lifts and cuts in sync with his brother Osamu who also together make the fast attack , and Yaku one of the best liberos in Japan.
As they adjusted their banners for the game, Akaashi said with a calm smile, "Let's focus on accuracy, guys. We don't need elaborate celebrations when we have solid points."
Hinata, with her incredible ability to jump high, was eager to show off her skills on the court. Beside him, Lev, with his impressive stature, was ready to block the opposing team's attacks.
Lev let out a loud laugh. "I can't wait to see people's surprised faces when I block their attacks."
On Bokuto's side, Tsukishima Kei, with his impeccable blocking technique, was ready to thwart the opposing team's attacks.
New friends Atsumu Miya and Osamu Miya, twins known for their daring moves and perfect timing, brought an element of surprise to the game, keeping everyone on their toes.
Atsumu patted Osamu on the shoulder. "Let's show them how to play volleyball for real, brother."
Kuroo and Bokuto as team leaders approach and shake hands.
"Baby, I won't take it easy" Kuroo looks with affection and determination.
"It makes me more confident, I won't take it easy either" Bokuto laughs and pulls him by the arm and takes his face giving him a big kiss that makes noise. Kuroo also holds his waist to firm the kiss that follows a few seconds.
"Come on guys it's not a date!" Kenma speaks.
"Today has em!" atsumu screams
They hear their friends cheering for them to stop and they smile as they return to their posts.
The match started with enthusiasm and laughter. Bokuto and Kuroo led their teams with passion, but also allowed fun to be the priority. Bokuto's powerful attacks were balanced by Kuroo's cunning in defense.
As the game continued with energy and laughter, Akaashi came up with an idea that could bring a fun twist. He made the time signal with his hand and called Kenma through the net and whispered: "Kenma, what if they mixed up the teams? We could all play together with players who normally aren't used to playing together."
Kenma looked at Akaashi, puzzled. "Hmm, that could be interesting. It would be a challenge for all of us."
Akaashi smiled slightly. "Exactly, in addition to breaking the routine and creating a unique dynamic."
Moving away from Kenma, Akaashi caught everyone's attention. "Guys, what if we tried something different? How about we mix up the teams and play together with players who don't normally share the court? Who's in?"
Akaashi's suggestion was met with surprise and excitement. Bokuto and Kuroo exchanged curious glances. "Akaashi, you always have interesting ideas," Kuroo said with a smile.
With a discreet smile, Akaashi started to organize the new teams. He considered each player's skills when forming the teams, seeking to create a challenging and enriching experience.
As the teams were organized, Atsumu laughed and joked, "Looks like we're going to shuffle things around and create some fun chaos."
It looked like this:
Team 1: Bokuto, Kenma, Yaku, Osamu and Lev.
Team 2: Kuroo, Akaashi, Hinata, Atsumu and Tsukishima.
Everyone is full of energy and excitement.
"Guys, show us what we're capable of!" Bokuto speaks excitedly
"Time to see who will come out on top today!" Kuroo hugs the shoulders of the people gathered in a circle and speaks. "We are the blood..."
"No, no, no, not here man" Tsukki laughs loudly interrupting the former Nekoma captain from speaking his battle cry, everyone laughs together.
"Let's go" Everyone yells.
The match begins and the atmosphere is a mix of fun and competition.
"Hmm, maybe I can surprise with an unexpected move." Kenma thinks watching the court (Team 1)
"I'm going to get that ball, guys!" Hinata screams running" (team 2)
As they play, they trade banter and jokes, keeping fun at the center of the game.
"Bro, did you let that ball pass? It's not what we expected from the amazing Miya Atsumu." Osamu speaks feigning surprise (team 1)
"Alright, Samu, I'll show you how a Miya plays now." Atsumu responds by laughing (Team 2)
The friendly rivalry shines through in the banter between Osamu and Atsumu, but both still play seriously.
"Don't think it's going to be easy, Tsukishima." Yaku defending a difficult ball exclaims.
"I'm looking forward to seeing if you can keep up with us." Tsukishima lifts his head smiling sideways.
As the match progresses, they start to focus more on the plays, but without missing the opportunity to unleash some taunts.
"I won't let you through, Hinata!" Lev jumps high to block
"This time, Gato won't reach the ball!" Hinata gets up and runs again for a perfect lift from Akashi.
"Time for my special attack!" Bokuto rolls up his sleeves and knee pads.
"Careful everyone, Bokuto is going to unleash his scary attack!" Kuroo screams in mock desperation and laughs as he positions himself in Block
The ball lands in Kenma's hands and he analyzes between Lev, Bokuto and Osamu.
"Here Kenma, left" Bokuto shouts running and jumps.
Kenma jumps up and sideways at an intersection for Bokuto.
"Damn it, rebound!" He smacks Kuroo and Hinata's fingers hard and smiles, and asks for the ball again.
While the game is tight, on the rebound Bokuto jumps like a hurricane and prepares a parallel super cut.
Kuroo quickly jumps up but unbalanced he hit his right hand on the crossbar, which leads to his arm being heavily hit by the ball, ricocheting his body which is thrown backwards, his head hitting the ground hard.
The game stops immediately, and the air is charged with tension.
"Tetsu, Tetsu! are you alright?" Bokuto screams and runs under the net in a panic.
The other players run to where Kuroo is lying, worried about the situation.
Akashi bends down and checks on Kuroo: "Guys, he's unconscious. We need to call for help right away."
Kenma with a trembling voice: "I'll call an ambulance.
While Kenma calls 911, the friends try to assess Kuroo's condition and wake him up.
Bokuto almost crying touches her boyfriend's face " Tetsu my love, wake up! Are you listening to me?"
Hinata asks a worried Bokuto "Did he hit his head too hard?"
The anxiety is palpable as everyone waits for help to arrive.
Bokuto moves closer and slightly lifts Kuroo's face and is startled when he sees his neck oozing from under his hair. "He's bleeding, please be quick Kenma!"
"We shouldn't move it until the professionals arrive."Tsukishima warns looking at Bokuto.
"It's going to be okay, guys. Let's stay calm until the ambulance arrives." Yaku tries to keep calm.
Finally, the ambulance arrives and the paramedics begin to assess Kuroo.
The Paramedic approaches and quickly checks on Kuroo. "He suffered a severe blow to the head. We need to take him to the hospital immediately."
Bokuto looks up determinedly, "I'll go with him."
Kenma looks worried at his best friend's situation "I hope he's okay."
Hinata puts a hand on Kenma's shoulder "Let's hope he recovers soon."
With Bokuto and Kuroo in the ambulance and their friends anxious, the volleyball match is put on hold as everyone focuses on supporting Kuroo and waiting for news on his condition.
