Please note. I own none of this work and am just writing for fun. The characters belong to some lady that lives in another country. I am uncharacteristically publishing this as I go, rather than what I've done in my other stories - write a bunch and then publish it. I have a little bit of a plan but not much. I'm going to keep it clean and try to not have giant plot holes. I will tell you I'm not English, so don't persecute me for not using consistent terms for jumpers and trainers and such. I can't even…

A plane crashes.

"This is Hero Foxtrot 714, I repeat, Hero Foxtrot 7-1-4 and we are having engine trouble," the father said calmly so as not to add to the panic his 14 year daughter was experiencing at that moment. "I repeat, Hero Foxtrot 714. None of our instruments are working. Do you read me?"

"Dad, are we going to make it?" Samantha asked. She was trying to be brave. They'd been through a lot recently and she didn't want to add to her father's stress level. After all, this was supposed to be a fun trip, a flight to Scotland to put the world behind them for a while.

"Sure we will, Sam," Jack said as he checked the power again. "I don't know why the instruments all froze up though. Never seen anything like that before." He tapped on the altimeter and fuel gauge, nothing. The engine was not doing well and he wished he knew how high they were. It was darker than dark outside. Other than the stars and the tiny sliver of a crescent moon, there was nothing. He couldn't make out anything on the ground at all. No hills, trees, water, it was weird.

"You're going to have to make an emergency landing, right?" Sam asked. She went through the emergency details that her father had instructed her about on the many other flights they'd taken together. As long as they could find a field or road it would be fine. It was just so dark.

"I sure would like to see a little better," Jack said as the engine sputtered and quit. He looked at his daughter and patted her shoulder. "Hang on tight."

The plane fell noiselessly. If the altimeter had worked Jack would have been able to realize how low they actually were above the trees, and if the engine had not given up so early, the residents of the nearby school, cloaked in an ancient charm that was designed to hide it from Muggles, would have heard it crash in the forbidden forest.
