Disclaimer: I do not own the characters from Monster Hunter, only how the story goes. The characters and world of Monster Hunter belongs to Capcom. The only thing that I do own are the OC's of the story. I do apologize for any errors in grammar and/or if I was not accurate in reference to something.

A/N: This is the only chapter for the story that I'll be posting right now. I'll get to work on it and convert it into a crossover when I'm ready in the series.

Survival Prologue- A Little Game

A bright day shone over a large forest area. All seemed rather calm as a herd of Aptonoth, large cow-like creatures with leathery gray skin with black stripes along their backs and a head reminiscent of a Hadrosaur, they have a large, two-pronged crest protruding from their heads and a flat, spiked tail lumbered across a small wetland. In another part of the area, a small herd of Kestodon, pink and grey beasts with large frilled heads were walking about on the shoreline before the great sea beyond. Deeper into the forest, the only other sounds that could be heard were either the chirping of birds or the sounds from various insects.

In a spot high within a towering tree, somewhere around the middle of the ancient wonder, there stood a tree limb elevated above the ground. Jutting out from the center of the limb were towering branches covered in red fungus. And sitting at the edge of the platform made of plants was a young man clad in leather clothing. On his arms sat metallic vambraces with a slinger on the left one. Strapped to his back were a pair of iron Dual Blades. The young man sat on his knees and had his eyes closed.

(Cue Prologue from Monster Hunter World)

A faint tremor could suddenly be felt throughout the section where he was in. A large, growling shape moved within the darkness of the walkable canopy and was heading towards the branch. Without opening his eyes, the young man said, "So the game begins, eh?"

The limb and the leaves above shook as the large figure came up onto it. The leather clad human slowly opened his eyes and found a large creature that has black and grey fur on its back which coupled with its flesh-toned scales, make it look similar to the archetypal image of a vulture. Its hide is primarily pink in color, while a dark pelt covers its back which ends in a ruff at the neck, leaving the head bald. Large fangs protrude from the monster's lower jaw, giving it the appearance of an under-bite. Slowly getting up, the man didn't take his eyes off of his apparent large foe. His fingers twitched a little while the Anjanath before him snorted and narrowed its yellow eyes. The human's foot scrapped the floor covered tree limb and the large dinosaur-like creature's tail swished. The young man looked to be reaching for his blades slowly and his adversary growled. But just as his fingers lightly touched one of the hilts of the weapons, he suddenly turned and bolted for the side of the limb. The Anjanath roared before rushing after him.

The man leapt off the limb and turned as he plummeted to the vine covered ground below. But before he could fall too far, he aimed the slinger on his arm and fired it at the platform made of ancient wood. The end of the cable was a grappling hook and it embedded into the limb. The Anjanath watched as the human swung underneath the platform before he clenched his fist. It made the grappling hook pull loose from the limb. The man grunted when he fell onto a limb that was connected to the rest of the tree. He looked up to the Anjanath who just roared at him. The human quickly turned and ran up the limb and headed for a drop. He could feel the tremors across the limb that told him the Anjanath was coming down the other limb. He was just a few yards from the drop when he glanced back. His eyes widened when he saw the Brute Wyvern coming at him with jaws open wide. The man jumped over the edge and started to drop. The Anjanath jumped over the edge as well. But when it touched down onto the ground with a loud boom, the large creature looked around for its prey. It became surprised when it didn't see the human anywhere. A whistle from behind made the Anjanath look back. It came face to face with a wall of vines that led up to the other limbs. It looked up when the whistle happened again and its eyes widened a little. Hanging near the top was the human who had a big grin on his face. With a small laugh, the man climbed back up and pulled himself to stand before running off to the left. A little smoke blew out of the Anjanath's nostrils before it let loose a really loud roar.

The human ran into a covered part of the tree with a grin as he looked back. He knew that even though the Anjanath could climb, it would take it a moment to catch up with him. A hiss made him look forward and his smile fell when he came face to face with a new creature. This one resembles a colubrid in appearance with grayish blue scales covering most of its body that covered up a slim squirrel-like shape. On its back are patches of white fur as well as a bushy tail covered in rows of spikes. Even its front limbs had a few spikes. The man knew to be weary of the Tobi-Kadachi for its ability to build up a charge of electricity.

The human removed the Dual Blades from his back and readied himself for an attack. With a holler he charged forward and prepared to swing. The Tobi-Kadachi hissed before jumping back when he swung his twin weapons. The Fanged Wyvern put the man on the defensive when it swung its tail around. He quickly stepped back and barely avoided being smacked by the appendage. The Tobi-Kadachi then leapt at the human. The man yelped before dropping down and rolled out of the way. The Fanged Wyvern touched down a few feet from him and the human quickly got back up and started running again. The fur on the Tobi-Kadachi's body started to frizzle a little as it scraped its tail across the ground and built up a bit of a charge. It loose its own unique roar, as if to signal something.

The man hadn't gone but a few feet when he heard a big cat-like growl came from in front of him. He looked ahead, wondering what it was this time. He became surprised when he saw a large black shape emerging from the darkness. This new creature has black scales, black fur and nightmarish red eyes, giving it the look and style of a predatory black panther. On its tail it has spikes protruding from it. The Nargacuga lifted its tail a little and started shaking it like a rattlesnake.

The man looked between the two creatures, wondering which would come at him first. He glanced back to see a large drop that led to another part of the forest. He placed the Dual Blades back onto his back and readied to make his move. Both the Tobi-Kadachi and the Nargacuga quickly moved towards him. The man waited for the right moment that he was hoping was coming. It seemed to work in his favor when they both leapt at him with their talons outstretched and their jaws open wide. He quickly turned to move out of the way and jumped over the edge, causing the two monsters to crash into each other.

Narrator: You may be wondering why a human like me is going up against three different monsters who seem to be working well together, for the most part

The man grunted when he landed in a shallow pool and took a deep breath. He looked up to the ledge and could see the Tobi-Kadachi and the Nargacuga enter a bit of a brawl. The latter had the former pinned underneath and growled at them. The Tobi-Kadachi retaliated by kicking the Nargacuga off of it. The two then went at it and became a ball of claws and teeth and spikes. The man just shook his head from their little spat. The sound of loud thuds quickly drew his attention around.

Narrator: Well, believe it or not, but I actually am not from their world. The place that I originally come from already has its own gods and monsters.

"You've got to be kidding me." He said when he saw the Anjanath standing at the opening at the top of a root. He quickly turned to run for another opening just as the Anjanath's throat started to glow red. The man had to abruptly stop when a wall of flames cut him off. He could feel the intense heat as he shielded himself with his arms. He looked back over to the Anjanath as it cut off its flame breath.

Narrator: I came to this place under the strangest and most extraordinary of chances.

They were both startled when the ball of teeth, claws and spikes came crashing down not too far from them. They looked over to see the Tobi-Kadachi and the Nargacuga still going at it with each other. The Anjanath growled at them to try and get their attention, but they seemed to be more focused on each other at the moment. The man just rolled his eyes with a groan as he reached behind him. He pulled out a scatter nut from his pouch and loaded it onto his slinger. He aimed it over the two brawling monsters and fired his load. The scatter nut flew through the air before hitting a nearby tree. As its name sake, the scatter nut exploded and its hard contents smacked against the two. It seemed to be enough to bring the Tobi-Kadachi and the Nargacuga out of their spat. They looked over to the human and they narrowed their eyes as they growled. The man nervously swallowed a lump in his throat as he realized that now he was up against three monsters.

Narrator: But believe it or not, I've managed to survive here for a good while. Granted the place has had its ups and downs every now and again, but I've managed to make it work.

He looked between all three of them and saw how they were starting to close in on him. The man tried to think of a way out and reached behind him into his pouch. He pulled out a glowing vial and thought that it might make a pretty good distraction for this situation. The human quickly loaded the item onto his slinger and fired it at the ground right in front of the three monsters. The glass of the flash bomb smacked against the ground and it created a blast of light that made the three monsters roar and recoil while closing their eyes from the bright light. Even the human had to cover his eyes from it. When he opened up them again, he could see that three still had their eyes shut and were a little disoriented from the flash bomb. Taking a chance, he turned and made a break for an opening.

Narrator: It seems to get dicey every now and then and there are a few close calls.

The Anjanath seemed to hear the human's footsteps as it turned its disoriented head towards his direction. It roared again in his direction and stumbled to chase after the human. The Tobi-Kadachi and the Nargacuga heard the movement and stumbled after the two as well. The human ran down the path before coming to a T-junction in the forest. He thought of which way to go before looking back to see the three monsters starting to regain their vision as they followed after him. Taking a chance he turned down the path to the right. It came to curve that was a more shadowy part of the forest. But to his left was a small cliff that seemed like it provided a little cover. He glanced back down the path to see if they were still following but didn't see anything. The human knew that it was only a matter of time and quickly made for the cliff.

Narrator:But for the monsters chasing after me, there's actually a whole story around that. And it goes further back than our little chase today.

He climbed onto the top of the small cliff and laid flat on his stomach. He kept an eye out over the edge, but managed to stay low. The Anjanath, the Tobi-Kadachi and the Nargacuga came running through the small area and stopped. All three monsters started sniffing around, looking for their potential prey. They all growled or hissed at each other. The human knew that it would only be a matter of time before they caught his scent and would be quickly upon him. He thought it lucky to have saved a little more slinger ammo. Reaching into his pouch, he pulled out a red colored fruit, a red pit, and applied it to his slinger. He aimed it high over their heads and into the tunnel. Waiting for the right moment, as they had their heads turned and fired the red pit. The fruit sailed through the air and smacked into the ground a good deal away from the monsters. The still heard it as they all turned their heads towards the tunnel. All three of them quickly dashed into the darkness and the human waited for the right moment to split.

When all three had disappeared under the shadows of the trees, the human quietly got up and carefully climbed down the wall of vines. When his feet quietly touched the ground, he looked into the tunnel and could see that they were still searching for him. With a smirk he turned back down the path that he had come and started running again. Down in the tunnel, the Anjanath was the first of the three to hear the sound of running feet, noticed that it came from behind them and looked back to see the human running off again. The Brute Wyvern turned and growled to the other two of the group as if to tell them to go on to try and cut the human off. The Nargacuga and the Tobi-Kadachi growl in response before they rushed off. The Anjanath turned and quickly rushed after their prey.

The human passed by the opening that they had come from, not even thinking twice about going down that path again. But when the Anjanath came upon the opening not long after him, it looked to the fleeing human before going back down. The man happened to look back and saw that nothing was chasing after him. He took a deep breath and slowed down in his run. He kept an ear out for any predators pursuing him and cautiously made his way forward.

He soon found himself in another part of the forest, one that was flanked by walls of vines or vines hanging from the trees on his left and right. But unbeknownst to the human, the Anjanath was watching him from high above the towering wall of vines. It had taken an alternate route to intercept the human. The purple beast gave a low growl as it readied itself to spring. Neither the Anjanath nor the human were expecting a shrieking Mernos to fly over them. The human looked back and his eyes widened when they met the Anjanath's. The Brute Wyvern roared as it leapt down from the great height. As impressed as he was by this feat, it didn't stop the human from running. The Anjanath crashed to the ground behind him as the young man weaved through some foliage. The purple dinosaur-like monster quickly rushed after him.

The chase came across a small herd of Aptonoth and they were spooked when they saw both hunters coming at them. The herbivores started to scatter about as they came through. The human lifted his left arm and fired his grappling hook towards a group of trees. The hook managed to catch onto a branch and he was zipped forward. He landed in the crook of the tree and glanced back at his current adversary. The Anjanath lunged for him with its jaws wide open, but the human jumped out of the tree at the last minute. The tree he had chosen were covered in the vines. The Anjanath was soon struggling against the environmental trap while the man was once again running.

He soon found himself nearly blinded by the sun when he came out onto a bare slope. He could see a small pond at the bottom of the hill, a tall tree standing tall next to a drop and some cliffs. The young man glanced back to see the Anjanath rip free of its bindings. Deciding not to linger, the human quickly made his way down the slope towards the cliff and the tree. The Anjanath came out into the light with a roar and followed after him. The human doubled his efforts in his run for the edge. He looked up onto the longest branch of the tree and saw a certain beetle perched on it. Knowing that it was his best option, he once again aimed his slinger at it.

Time seemed to slow down when he launched the grappling hook up at the tree. The hook managed to latch onto the beetle and he prepared to jump. The Anjanath lunged forward with its jaws open wide. The human yelled as he jumped over the edge just as the Anjanath's jaws snapped on empty air. The man swung across the gap and squeezed his hand to make the grappling hook release from the beetle. He landed on a lower cliff on his knees and didn't look back when he ran for a convenient wall of vines. He climbed up while the Anjanath only growled at him while watching the human scale the vines. With a snort the Anjanath then turned to find a different way after its prey.

The human managed to get to the top and kept running. He knew of some cover up ahead that he could use to lay low for a while before making his way back home. The sound of falling rocks made him look to his left as he ran and he saw the Anjanath quickly jumping across a path made of towering rocks. The human could only hope that he could beat the beast before it reached the end. But just as he was about to pass an opening in the rocks, a wall of flames cut him off before he could run any further. He looked up to see the Anjanath perched up above him on a rock. A cloud of smoke drifted from its nostrils before it loose another ear-splitting roar.

The human quickly turned to run and the Brute Wyvern hopped down after him. They came out into another clearing and another, but bigger herd of Aptonoth moved out of the way. The young man quickly ran across the shallow river. The Anjanath beat him to the other side by jumping over him and landing on shore with a loud thud. The human stopped in his tracks when he was cut off by the dinosaur-like creature. The Anjanath turned to him with a growl and moved to engage him. The human quickly removed his Dual Blades from his back to defend himself. But he became surprised and worried when his adversary unexpectedly turned its body and knocked them out of his hands with its tail. The Brute Wyvern growled again as it came closer to him. With a yelp, the young man then stumbled and fell on his rear in the cold water. The Anjanath gave a roar as it leaned forward with its jaws open wide. The young man cried out in fear and shielded himself with his arm as he thought it to be the end for him.

(End of track)

But he was proven wrong when he heard laugh-like grunts coming from the Anjanath. He lowered his arm to see the Brute Wyvern looking down on him. If it could, the human would have sworn that the monster was smirking down at him. The human started snickering before he full on laughed with what was apparently his friend. He picked himself up and the Anjanath took a step back to give him room. The two then panted from their little chase. With a shrug of his shoulders the young man said, "Well, you managed to once again catch me, Grumper. But you got to admit, I had you guys a few good times."

The Anjanath's response was a snort and glanced away from him. The man just chuckled to this and he moved to retrieve his weapons. He picked up and shook his Dual Blades of the river water before placing them onto his back.

Narrator: So yeah, basically, I've made a few friends during my time here. I never would have thought that I, Jacob Daniel Orr, would do something like this.

Jacob and Grumper suddenly heard the sound of roaring and hissing coming from behind the latter. Jacob moved past the Anjanath and removed a set of binoculars from his pouch and lifted them up to his eyes. Even from a pretty good distance, he could see the Tobi-Kadachi and the Nargacuga fighting amongst themselves. The two were lunging forward and trying to claw at each other. With a sigh he lowered the binoculars and said, "Looks like Boltia and Swift are going at it again.

"Ugh, girls." Jacob shook his head with a small grin. Grumper rolled his eyes with a snort. With a huff Jacob said, "Looks like we'll have to break it up.

"Race you." Jacob laughed as he took off running towards the two monsters. Grumper gave a small roar as he ran after the human.

Narrator: Our lives changed so much ever since that storm hit a good while back. And in all honesty, there's not much that I would change.

Author's Note: I am so excited to start doing this story. It has been on my mind for quite a while. And like I said, it is tied into another project of mine, but I won't reveal anything until the end. But I do have a lot planned for it. Ever since I started playing MH World, I have just been fascinated by everything about it; the terrain, the story but most importantly the monsters. There are some monsters that I like and there are some that I don't like, but I do enjoy it so much. I look forward to reading your reviews. Be sure to leave a comment either about if I've done something wrong or if you want something specifically to happen. See you next time.
