The Rivera family (family of shoemakers):
Mama Coco, a former head of the family at 98 years old. Calm, and thoughtful. Gets people mixed up due to her Alzehemier's. She is the only one who understands Hector and Miguel.
Elena Rivera, A feisty matriarch of the family, daughter of Mama Coco. Leads her family with love and strength. She is protective of her son, Hector. She is 65 years old.
Franco Rivera, Patriarch of the family. Mellow, easy-going, and thoughtful compared to his wife. He is 65 years old.
Berto Rivera, eldest son of Franco and Elena. This 39-year-old is silly but can be serious when he wants to be.
Carmen Rivera, wife of Berto, calm and thoughtful. She is 39 years old.
Enrique Rivera, second son of Franco and Elena, who is 34 years old. Strong, strict, and a bit fiery shoemaker. Nicknamed "Queque."
Luisa Rivera, wife of Enrique, who is 32 years old. She is funny and caring and more sympathetic than her husband.
Hector Rivera, third son of Franco and Elena who is 29 years old. He's a funny and sentimental man but has sworn off love forever due to being jilted by his ex-girlfriend. Plays music on the side when he's not making shoes. Also does knife-throwing for therapy.
Gloria Rivera, daughter of Franco and Elena. She is a 28-year old woman who wants Hector to get married so that she'll get married. Doesn't have a boyfriend but she has a sweet spot for her brother's former best friend.
Abel Rivera, son of Berto and Carmen, grandson of Franco and Elena. A 15 year old boy who is goofy and likes to play sports. He also likes to play jokes and pranks on Miguel.
Rosa Rivera, daughter of Berto and Carmen, granddaughter of Franco and Elena. A 14 -year-old girl who sometimes teases Miguel, other times she is his ally.
Manny and Benny, 2-year-old twin sons of Berto and Carmen, grandsons of Franco and Elena. They don't talk much but they like to explore everything around them. Antonio is their playmate.
Miguel Rivera, only son of Enrique and Luisa, grandson of Franco and Elena. This 12-year-old wants to be a musician when he grows up. He misses his best friend who had run away from her family.
The Madrigal family (a family of actors and actresses who have gifts):
Alma Madrigal, 67-year-old Matriarch of the family. A Widowed woman who leads her family with pride and dignity. Is protective of her youngest granddaughter.
Julieta Madrigal, daughter of Alma. This 32-year-old woman worked as an actress and now owns her restaurant. Her gift is making food that can heal people of their physical injuries.
Agustin Madrigal, husband of Julieta. Clumsy and bumbling, the 32-year-old man is supportive of his wife and daughters. Worked as a stuntsman before helping his wife with her restaurant.
Pepa Madrigal, twin sister of Julieta. Her gift is making the weather happen which is useful for making special effects in movies. However, her gift is also a problem for her because she gets frantic and anxious a lot.
Felix Madrigal, husband of Pepa. A bold and loud 35-year-old actor who loves to be dramatic. He also knows how to calm his wife down whenever she's under the weather.
Bruno Madrigal, son of Alma. Same age as his best friend, Hector, this actor always plays bad guys in films. He can see into the future-which is always bad, rarely good.
Frida Madrigal, twin sister of Bruno. Her gift is making potions and magical creams. Was the creator of the infamous Love potion.
Isabella Madrigal, eldest daughter of Julieta and Agustin. Favorite grandchild of Alma, she's the star of every movie. This 17-year-old girl seemed to be happy being in the spotlight all the time both onscreen and offscreen.
Luisa Jessica Madrigal, second daughter of Julieta and Agustin. This 15 year old girl handles props and equipment due to her super strength. She secretly wants someone to help her but is too shy to ask. Has a crush on Abel.
Mirabel Madrigal, third daughter of Julieta and Agustin. The only girl in the family that has no gift, which caused tension between her and her grandmother. When this 12-year-old girl ran away from home, she found love and acceptance in not only in her long-lost uncle, but also in a Mafia Lord and her gang.
Dolores Madrigal, first daughter of Pepa and Felix. The 16-year-old can hear every thing from a far distance unless she is in her room covered in quartz or someone has their mansion also covered in quartz.
Camillo Madrigal, son of Pepa and Felix, who is 15 years old. He can shapshift into any human which makes him a wonderful actor (and prankster)!
Antonio Madrigal, second son of Pepa and Felix. Everyone in the Madrigal family except one has received their gift at ten years old. This little tyke doesn't have his gift yet due to being two years old. Like other toddlers, he loves animals.
The Sanchez family (family of gangsters):
Imelda Sanchez, the current Mafia Lord and ruler of the East Side. Beautiful but deadly, this 30-year-old woman has a tragic secret that led her to become a gangster and sworn off love forever. When she's not robbing stores or the local bank, this woman does her secret hobby of sewing clothes. Which she only shared with her ward, Mirabel and later Hector.
Oscar and Felipe Sanchez, bumbling twin brothers of Imelda, who are 15 years old. They handle the finances for their family.

Dr. Joshua Strongbear Sweet, a medic of African American and Native American descent.
Audrey Rocio Ramirez, a 17-year-old Puerto Rican mechanic.
Bubo Marquez, a 17-year-old Colombian spy. Tall, cynical, and serious, he is torn between his feelings for Isabella and his duty to the Mafia Lord.
Wilhelmina Bertha Packard, an elderly, sarcastic, chain-smoking radio operator.
Jebidiah Allardyce "Cookie" Farnsworth, a Western-style chuckwagon chef.
Gaetan "Mole" Molière, a French thief who acts like a mole.
Chicharron, a grumpy gardener and watchman of the Sanchez mansion.
Tia Chelo, an assistant cook to "Cookie."
The Visconti Family (Restaurant family on the West Side of New Santa Cecilia):
Signor Leonardo Visconti, owner of his family restaurant. Has high standards.
Emilian Visconti, daughter of Leonardo. Quiet, demure, sweet, and polite.
Ercole Visconti, son of Leonardo. Rude and creepy.
The Marcovaldo Family (Restaurant family on the East Side of New Santa Cecilia:)
Massimo Marcovaldo, Widower and owner of the Marcovaldo restaurant in the East Side. Warm and friendly to customers regardless of their diverse backgrounds.
Giulietta 'Giulia' Marcovaldo, 13-year-old daughter of Massimo and friend of Luca and Mirabel. She's relatively new due to losing her mother.
Alberto Marcovaldo, adoptive son of Massimo, and best friend of Luca and Mirabel. He is 14 years old and tries to be confident to hide his insecurities.
Animals:
Dante, An xoloitzcuintli "xolo" dog that is clumsy and silly but helpful. He follows Miguel for treats. Also helps Miguel and his family out when needed.
Pepita, a small gray cat who is Imelda's pet. She is observant and serious but also playful toward Mirabel.
Machiavelli, A white cat that is a pet of the Marcovaldo family. He is quiet and observant.
Jack the Monkey, an energetic and mischievous monkey that used to be owned by a pirate. When he found the love potion, he decided to have fun with it.
Ernestina De La Cruz, This 32-year-old woman is a wannabe actress. She used to be Hector's girlfriend. Also responsible for Bruno's mysterious dissapperance.
*Mayor George Smith, the ruler of the West Side. He doesn't want to go into the East Side to fix their problems due to being scared of it (and his dislike for smelly people).
*Andres Smith, son of the Mayor who is a musician and a town flirt. This 29-year-old man is the only friend of Hector and Bruno.
*Natalia Ryan, factory worker, flapper, and musician. This 29-year-old woman is smart and intelligent, yet is in love with a man who never noticed her.
Luca Pagura, a 12-year-old boy who is shy and friendly. His parents work for Massimo at the restaurant. He is also best friends with Alberto, Mirabel, and Giulia.
