During the Battle of Hogwarts, Harry falls into a long-forgotten cavern beneath the castle, undergoing a transformation that leads to the Death Eaters being wiped out. 1. Foreword

FOREWORD

This story has had a long and somewhat convoluted genesis. I had considered doing a Potterverse crossover with High School DxD with a Harry/Raynare pairing for some time, perhaps even around the time I was doing Cambion, but I could never get around to doing it properly. My first attempt, Azrael Rising, actually made considerable progress before it fell apart, even though I had written 18 chapters' worth of story. But something didn't quite feel right about that story, and so I shelved it, and yet, a Harry/Raynare fic was never far from my mind.

Some might be wondering why. After all, Raynare was a starter villain to High School DxD, there to give Issei an initial obstacle to overcome and soon forgotten, for the most part, just like Raditz from Dragonball Z. Yet as MasakoX showed with his own Raditz-centric What If story, sometimes, starter villains have quite a lot of potential that goes unrealised in canon.

Raynare seems, at first glance, to be a fairly two-dimensional villain whose main redeeming features are her figure and the fact that, in the anime at least, she dresses in skimpy BDSM clothes. But a few lines of dialogue provide some insight into her and gives her just enough complexity to give her the potential needed for fanfics. Her desire for fame and recognition make her a good foil for Harry, and while it can be difficult turning people like her from a villain into an anti-hero, the effort can be worth it. Hopefully, you agree when you read this story.

Anyway, time for the usual disclaimers. Firstly, there will be spoilers for both High School DxD, and the Potterverse.
