"War! With the forces of darkness pressing in from the East of the West. America heeds the call to fight for freedom." A newsreel says on the computer of Steve Rodgers, Captain America, the soldier out of time. "And at the front of the fight, shoulder to shoulder with our battling boys, is Captain America, a product of old-fashioned values and exciting new science! Captain America is the name every Nazi feared. Leader of the secret organization known as the Justice Society of America. Uncle Adolf's secret new weapons were no match for our heroes. When tough times turn tougher when hopes are on the ropes, here's the man to knock the Axis on their backs. He's out there, fighting for the land that we love, and he won't stop-"
Steve stops the video and looks over the files of all of his friends from the old days who are all dead. Scrolling through the JSA files, he was sad to see he had outlived so many of his friends and family.
Rex Tyler, Hourman: DECEASED
Rex Tyler was a scientist who invented an hourglass that allowed him to gain super strength, speed, and agility for about an hour at a time. His serum actually was the stepping-stone that helped Abraham Erskine create the Super Soldier Serum to create him.
Sylvester Pemberton, Starman: DECEASED
He was once just some kid of some wealthy billionaires, but one day took it upon himself to save them from some criminals. That ended up leading him to a weapon known as the Cosmic Staff. A weapon that basically had to deem you worthy if you wished to wield it.
James Howlett: MIA
Now, this was a bit more difficult to explain. He didn't like to talk about his past, but he was a man with a strange mutation that ended up giving him knife-like bones coming out of his knuckles. He also had a healing factor that meant he could take a few shots and not even flinch from them.
But missing? You'd think that after all this time he would be labeled as deceased.
Red Tornado: ACTIVE
Red Tornado is an android that he had met and was created a long time before the Super Soldier or Hourman was a thought. He could manipulate wind using his...science babble that Steve couldn't even begin to comprehend.
Diana Prince, Wonder Woman: ACTIVE
Diana Prince. Princess of Themiscyra. Diana of Themiscyra was born of her mother's strong desire for a child, a lump of clay brought to life in the form of a girl; the perfect Amazon, as she was born of no man. Following a training session, Diana happened to come across Captain Steve Rogers during his escape from the Imperial German Army in the ongoing Great War. A battle soon followed, as the Germans tracked Rogers to Themyscira, where they invaded in pursuit of Doctor Poison's notes. She joined Steve in his efforts to stop the war and later would join Steve in the JSA.
Steve couldn't help but smile when he saw that Diana wasn't not only still around but was also still fighting. He remembered the last thing he told her before he took Doctor Poison's plane and crashed it into the ice to save millions.
Alan Scott, Green Lantern: DECEASED
Alan Scott and Jimmy Henton, his partner, were traveling aboard a train together. The train would pass over a bridge that Alan designed; he recently outbid a rival engineer named Albert Dekker for that bridge contract, but a bomb exploded beneath the bridge derailing the train. Everyone on board was killed in the explosion: everyone but Alan Scott. When Alan woke up, he tried to save the dying Jimmy, who pointed out to him the presence of a strange green light among the wreckage.
With this fantastic new power under his command, Alan set out to help people find their way through the darkness.
Carter Hall, Hawkman: DECEASED
Kendra Saunders, Hawkgirl: DECEASED
Carter Hall, or as he used to go by...Prince Khufu. Prince Khufu lived during the reign of Ramesses II in the 19th dynasty of ancient Egypt. Khufu believed that his ka, or soul, would not journey on to the land of the afterlife. Rather, his soul and that of his betrothed, Chay-Ara, Kendra Saunders, was fated to remain in the mortal world. And that's what happened when a meteor strike ended their lives as well as the man known as Vandal Savage.
But he's a story for another day.
Azzuri, Black Panther: DECEASED
In 1941, Captain America traveled to Wakanda and encountered the Black Panther, the then-king Azzuri, who was defending his country by seemingly hunting and killing almost every newcomer for sport, having already decapitated several Nazi troopers and pinned their heads on spears. Seeing both Americans and Germans as potential threats to his country, Azzuri refused to work with Rogers at first and ordered him to leave, but eventually trusted him after the two fought.
Looking over the files, Steve was sorry to see that his good friend T'Chanda had passed. But he was happy to see he had a long and happy life and even had children of his own. Across from children to grandchildren with the current king of Wakanda T'Challa.
Amaya Jiwe: DECEASED
Amaya Jiwe is a former member of the Justice Society of America known as Vixen. While serving, Amaya would grow very homesick and often worry about the safety of her village without her there to protect it. Amaya fell in love with Rex Tyler and even planned to leave the JSA once the war was over.
But that didn't end the way they wanted. He died the same day that Steve went down into the ice after a fatal incident.
Hank Pym, Ant-Man: INACTIVE
Hank Pym. The Ant-Man. He was a scientist who was able to find a way to create a suit that would shrink him down to the size of an insect. He could sneak into enemy bases, find information on their enemies, and stay hidden from the individual. He was glad to see that he didn't die in war and even managed to make a name for himself out of the suit and got married.
Steve takes a stroll and is still getting used to everything that's become different since his days. He then comes across the newly developed and soon-to-open STARK Tower. Taking a seat outside the café, he begins to draw the tower, with nothing else to really do.
A waitress walks over with a smile and refills his coffee. "Waiting on the big guy?"
"Ma'am?" Steve asks, not understanding what she means.
"Iron Man." She gestures to the tower. "A lot of people eat here just for the chance to see him."
Steve shrugs and reaches for his wallet. "Maybe another time."
"Table's yours as long as you like. Nobody's waiting on it." She promises him before walking away. "Plus, we've got free wireless."
"Radio?" Steve asks, not understanding Wi-Fi yet.
Then an elderly man who Steve saw reminded him of someone he knew in the old days turned to face him. "Ask her for her phone number, you moron."
Steve isn't feeling like getting into a relationship right now and leaves it to be. After a while of staring up at the tower, he then leaves for the gym to try and clear his mind.
Steve was taking a lot of emotions he has been feeling on the punching bag: Getting flashbacks to everything that's happened to him over the years in World War ll, sacrificing his life to save the world, being found and thawed out of the ice. He then suddenly uses too much strength and sends the punching bag flying across the room. Panting in exhaustion, he was snapped out of his fantasy of being back in his
"Trouble sleeping?" A familiar voice called in a familiar accent.
Steve smiled as he looked over to the door and sees the woman he loves.
She was tall and fair-skinned with straight waist-length black hair, blue eyes, and broad shoulders. She is sporting a slender and athletic frame with a well-toned yet muscular build. She wore a casual sundress, something that Steve never thought that he would see on her in his lifetime. But to be fair, the last that he saw her, it was still the middle of the war. Aside from her was a man wearing a S.H.I.E.L.D. uniform that he couldn't help but feel like he knows.
"Diana," Steve said as he walked over to her.
"Steve." Diana sighed in joy as she ran up to him.
The two met in the middle as they pulled one another close and gave a passionate kiss. They haven't seen one another for 70 years, and even though it was just a moment for him, it was a lifetime for her.
Diana then broke it off and looked over at Steve. "You're back."
"Well...I couldn't leave you waiting. I promised you a dance." Steve reminded her.
"That dance is going to have to wait." The man said as he walked up to Steve. "It's good to see you again, Captain. It's John Smith."
Steve was a little confused as he looked over the man to see if it jogged any memories. "I'm sorry, have we met?"
"Not like this," John said as a hologram shuts down and John takes the appearance of a tall red robot with no ears or nose. His mouth and eye sockets are black giving him the appearance of an emotionless robot. He has a yellow T symbol on his chest and a yellow arrow on his forehead. He also wears a blue cape that goes over his head like a cloak. "Remember me now, Captain?"
"Tornado?" Steve was surprised to see him.
"I am happy that you recognize me, Rogers," John said to him. "And I am sorry to say, we didn't come here specifically to socialize. Even though we wish we did."
"Fury thought it was best you settled into the 21st century before seeing a few ghosts of your past," Diana explained why they stayed away. "As soon as they confirmed they found you, I wanted to run here."
"She just about did," John admitted.
"So, what are you doing here?" Steve asks the two.
"A mission," Diana said as she gave Steve the file Fury gave them. "A rogue government facility has been spotted in the mountains of Alberta, Canada, near the town of Roanoke."
"What's there?" Steve asked as he looked over a file.
"Something that goes by the name of Weapon X. We're not sure what it is exactly, that's what we're supposed to go find out," Diana explains to him. "The mission is yours if you want it."
Steve looked down and over to the case he brought with him that carried his shield within it. "Let's get to work."
They were later on in the air and flying towards the location of Weapon X inside Wonder Woman's Invisible Plane. They were all able to hide inside it as they came into a clearing nearby so that they can start to try and come up with a plan.
"Here is the base," Tornado informs Steve as Diana came down from the cockpit to go over the mission. "It is remote, just on the side of the mountain."
"How are we getting in there?" Steve asks, placing his shield on his back.
"There's a helicopter entrance up on the side." Diana zoomed in on the point where they are going to be entering. "We land the Jet, sneak in through there, find what Weapon X is and destroy it."
"Feels a little easy." Steve had to admit there had to be a catch.
"I say we don't look the horse in the mouth." Diana shrugged, causing Steve to look at her in shock. "What?"
"Nothing, just... surprised that you're using modern-day metaphors," Steve explains, the last they talked in the past, she couldn't understand the metaphors they used. "Guess I missed a lot more than I thought."
"Well, when we're done here, you can start making up for it," Diana promised him with a smile.
"We're about to land." Red Tornado tells them.
The Invisible Jet then took a landing and was able to find a clearing right around the edge of the research facility. This was where Weapon X is being built, and this is where it was going to be destroyed.
Steve leaped from the jet and onto the helicopter platform, somewhere that he saw there was nobody around. Red Tornado took down the cameras so there was nothing to worry about for that. And they walked over to the door and Diana quickly followed him. The two of them waited as the doors were then opened by someone from the inside, coming to check on the cameras.
"Hi." Steve greeted him.
Before the man had time to react, Diana wrapped him in her Lasso, quickly yanking him outside and throwing him off the side of the mountain. With the doors opened for them, they made their way inside as it seemed none of them knew they were even inside.
"You know, we could have used him to bypass the locks," Steve informed Diana, feeling that man she tossed would have been useful. "Now it's gonna be a bit of a chore to do it here."
"I wouldn't call it that." Diana shrugged as she walked ahead of him. "I prefer to see it as a challenge."
They turned and found a corridor where a bunch of soldiers with guns. They shouted over to the group and opened fire. Steve quickly ducked and raised his shield to block the attacks as Diana used her bracelets to defend herself. Red Tornado then came ahead of them and created two tornados and sent them flying over to the soldiers.
The alarms were set off due to this, meaning their position was now compromised. Several others came down the end they came from, which Steve returned and tossed his shield at them, causing it to bounce off all of them. Once the shield did its job, it made its way back to the soldier.
Diana then spun her lasso around one of them and yanked them closer. "Now...where can we find Weapon X?"
The soldier, under the influence of the lasso, brought the group to the location of the weapon. Steve kicked in the door that was blocking it off and they walked inside.
"Tornado could have just let us in," Diana commented as they left Red with the soldier.
"Yeah, well, I needed the leg work." Steve shrugged as they looked around.
The room was basically empty, with the acceptance of a few screens on the wall showing vital signs. They were looking and heard a loud bang, causing them to spin around and get defensive.
They saw some sort of cargo container on the wall with a lot of security on it. Walking over to the device, Steve saw this must be Weapon X and used his shield to cut off the locks. They watched the doors begin to be pulled open and realized this wasn't the ordinary weapon they were expecting.
They got ready to defend themselves and then got their first look at Weapon X. Their eyes went from anger to shock when they saw just who it was.
"Oh, god..." Steve said in worry.
Marching out of the container was a man, wearing some sort of gear that was allowing the screens to take his vitals. With nee sharp shiny claws out of his knuckles. He looked a little older only due to the beard and hair that looks like it hasn't been cut in years.
But...The Wolverine was alive
"Logan?" Diana asks.
But it seems their old friend wasn't in any mood to catch up on lost time like they were. Screaming out in rage, Logan leaped and readied his claws to attack Diana. Steve ran ahead of them and blocked them from Logan.
It seems that their friend either didn't recognize them or went through experiments that he didn't recognize them. Logan growled and snarled at them as he tried to cut through Steve's shield. Red Tornado saw his friends in danger and raced inside to help.
Logan however then went in and attacked Red by stabbing him in the face. He went so fast that Red couldn't even fight back and fell to the ground. Luckily his newer powers included a self repair feature to his body.
Diana and Steve got up and ran as they tried to catch up to their friend. Two soldiers ran up to him and immediately opened fire on Logan. But that didn't do anything as he charged up and leaped into the air, impaling his claws into both of them like it was easy for him.
By the Tyne that Steve and Diana reached the hall, they saw that Logan had torn through the entire hallway of men in seconds. This was something way beyond what they have ever seen in their friend in the past. As in the old days, his claws weren't something that could do this so easily. He would usually be able to go through one person every while, not a whole hallway in seconds like this.
"Great Hera..." Diana couldn't believe what her friend had done.
"Somethings wrong with him." Steve stated what was pretty obvious. "He didn't recognize us."
"No, he didn't." Diana said in worry. "How did this happen?"
"That's something I was gonna ask you. We need to subdue and help him remember who he is," Steve admitted as he tightened his shield around his arm. Diana raised her brow as she saw what he has done. "Just in case."
Logan was however far to work as he charged through the facility, getting shot at left from right. But none of them even phased him as he ran up, slit one of their throats, impaling his claws into another one's chest, tossing them across the room and slamming into another soldier.
Everyone who came across him opened fire like it was nothing, he just ran over, clawing everyone left and right as they kept shooting. By the time he got through with the facility, he was already nearby the exit. But before he could open the doo4, Diana came in charging and slashing him against the door with her shield.
"Logan..." Diana tried to calm him down. "It's me. Diana of Themyscaria."
Logan however didn't seem to recognize her as he growled and slashed the shield, causing Diana to cry and back up, seeing he slashed through her shield.
"He's definitely lost." Steve guessed as he saw they needed to do something. "We need to restrain him."
"Got any ideas?" Diana asks.
"How long until Red Tornado's fixed?" Steve wonders.
"Some time." Diana shrugged and went fro her lasso. "I've got an idea. I just need you to go in and distract him."
Steve sighed and drew his shield. "Alright. Be quick."
Steve leaped in and tried to fight back against his friend and slammed his shield against Logan. Logan growled and pulled the shield down as Steve struggled to fight back, raising his left hand and drawing his claws out. He was getting ready to go for the kill when Diana swung the Lasso of Truth and wrapped it around his arm.
"Logan." Diana called out as the Lasso started to glow. "That is your name. Remember who you are."
Logan started to snarl and shake his head, like there was something trying to break through.
"Tell me who you are." Diana demanded Logan, seeing the truth is trying to surface.
Logan growled and snarls, swinging his arm and trying to break out of the Lasso's grip, but it wasn't doing much help for him. The lasso held a right grip on Logan as he started to calm down and drop to his knees.
Logan let out a gasp as it was like something was unlocked to him, allowing Steve and Diana to take a few steps back. They waited to see what would happen as Red finally made his way over to them.
"Logan?" Red asks in amazement.
Logan looked up to them, his humanity seemingly back as he started to cry. "Steve?"
Steve smiled as he saw his friend was back, but was a little cautious. "Logan?"
"That's my name...Logan." Logan said, almost like he was trying to convince himself of the statement. "what...where am I?" Then he looked over to Red and jumped. "What the hell is that?!"
"Logan, it's me." Red was surprised that he didn't recognize him.
"He still doesn't remember." Diana could see, noticing the look her friend was giving her as if she were a stranger.
"Logan, keep calm. They're with me." Steve assured his friend as he seemed to only recognize him. "We're gonna take care of you, you need to trust us. Trust me."
Logan seemed to be a bit hesitant, but also knew Steve wouldn't do anything to hurt him. "Okay...alright."
They took Logan to their jet, allowing Red to give him a look over with their tech. Logan didn't have much of his memory, but there were a lot of random memories that he can remember.
"I can't believe this is where he has been." Diana was taking blame for everything. "After all he's done, I should have torn apart the entire world to find him."
"Don't go blaming yourself." Steve tells her as he placed the shield down. "You didn't know."
"It still doesn't ease the pain." Diana scoffed.
"We just need to focus that he's here. And he needs our help." Steve replied.
Red then approached them with some news as Logan was resting on the bed. "It's not entirely going to be good news. But... it's not bad either."
"Good news first." Diana asked of him.
"His brain is there and intact. His memories see indeed there." Red explains to them.
"And the bad news?" Steve asks him.
"The... the main problem is that he can't access them." Red tried his best to explain exactly what he found out. "Whatever they did with him, they embedded his entire skeleton with Adamantium."
"Can we remove it?" Steve wonders.
"Not without killing him. And that'll be difficult enough as is." Red was sorry to report to them.
"What can we do?" Diana wants to know if there's a way to fix their friend.
"We'd need a brain scientist." Steve commented. "Maybe they could find a way to unlock his memories."
"You mean a Neuroscientist?" Red asks, quickly scanning through S.H.I.E.L.D.'s database, looking for anyone. "Found something."
"That fast?" Steve was shocked to see.
"We'll explain the internet to you later." Diana laughed at his confusion. "Who did you find?"
"Someone who is the best Neuroscientist in the field, and someone who has actually handled a handful of mutated personnel before." Red reported as he pulled up two separate files.
Jemma Simmons
Doctor Caitlin Snow
"They both graduated from the S.H.I.E.L.D. Academy?" Diana asks, surprised to see the credentials.
"Top of their class." Red confirmed.
"Where can we find them?" Steve asks.
"STAR Labs." Diana best him right the punch. "Dr. Snow works there with the Flash. Ms. Simmons..."
"She is a lab expert at S.H.I.E.L.D." Red knew her personally. "She has helped me out for some while with my body with her friend Dr. Fitz. We can get her...we just have to get Dr. Snow."
"Let me fly out alone." Diana offered up to the team. "They know me. I can talk to them alone and see if I can get her to help us."
"Alright. We'll take Logan to the facility. Wait for you to bring Dr. Snow, we'll collect Ms. Simmons." Steve agreed with her plan.
"Great." Diana smiled.
