Chapter 1

Arrival in Forks

Today was the day. I finally flew to see my dad. I had missed him so much lately. Of course, the circumstances of my move weren't exactly the best. But I didn't want to cause my mom any more pain. Charlie would handle it better than my mom. I saw her sad look so often when she picked me up at the psychologist's office and he reported to her that I still hadn't spoken or written anything down for him about what had happened.

Yes, I haven't spoken a word in four months. I was so in shock at the time and just wanted to suppress what had happened. But when the police, my mother, my friends here in Phoenix, even the teachers at my school approached me about it, I just stopped talking. I couldn't. I never wanted to think about what had happened again. I just wanted to block it out. Which I was really good at by now - repression. I wasn't the old Bella anymore, but I was trying, even though my mom could probably tell how I was feeling. That was probably why I was currently on a plane headed to Port Angeles, to rainy Washington. My mom was suffering with how I was doing, couldn't take it anymore, and sent me to my dad's house.

She had talked to Charlie on the phone this morning. He would not be able to make it to Port Angeles to pick me up, but had asked a friend's son to do so.

I was a little scared. What would await me? Would this boy even come and how should I find him? I only knew that he was seventeen years old and the son of the head physician of the hospital in Forks. If need be, I would have to take a cab.

While I was thinking about all this, the plane went into its approach, and I fastened my seat belt.

I was getting more and more excited.

What would I expect and how would Charlie cope with my silence? I suddenly had doubts that he could handle it.

The first thing I did when I got off the plane was turn on my cell phone.

I had received two text messages.

The first was from Charlie, a plain one:

Welcome to Washington.

I look forward to seeing you again!

Yes, I was happy to see my dad again, too.

The second SMS was from an unknown number. I opened it.

Hello Isabella!

I'm Edward Cullen. Your father gave me your number. I'm supposed to pick you up at the airport. I'll be waiting for you at baggage claim. Don't worry, I know what you look like. Welcome to Washington. Best wishes

Edward

Hmm ... okay! Dad had probably shown him one of the pictures I had sent him last month of Mom and me.

I put my phone back in my pocket and went to baggage claim.

How Edward looked like?

As I stood at baggage claim waiting for my suitcase, I looked around.

Which of them was Edward?

Suddenly, a boy came up to me.

But that could not be him.
